Went there today to possibly get new fish or plants with my bf and some of our friends, and they have a lot of different tanks and fish. They have coral tanks, freshwater, salt water, a tank with an octopus, cichlids, etc. there’s a lot of variety. One thing to warn you about is this lady working there today. I walked up to a tank with the BIGGEST fish I’ve ever seen and he swam up to me so I raised my hand ( I’m no idiot, I’m not gonna tap the glass) and this lady was incredibly rude and raised her voice at me because apparently the fish thinks I have food (which I didn’t know) and apparently he can jump out of the tank (also didn’t know). I feel like she could have handled it better instead of snapping at me with a bad attitude. Maybe a big sign or barrier or something to let you know to just not get near the tank since the fish assumes anyone who walks up to the glass is going to feed it. Other than the rude, bridge troll, wicked witch of the west lady yelling at me for walking up to her hungry, jumping jelly bean of a fish, it was a fairly good experience. I don’t know, maybe she was just hungry and I just looked like a snack. If you plan on coming here, I recommend you stop at the gas station and bring this lady a snickers

They have a great variety of fish and plants. We always find something we want here! Our plants and stock have done very well that we have gotten from here! They have a large line of products as well. Owners are fantastic to chat with, and the staff are pretty nice! Hoping to see more selection of goldfish in the future, especially crown and regular pearlscale goldfish, but I understand as the common customer does not have adequate space for goldies.

Staff is very knowledgeable, very helpful, and exceptionally patient. Mark and his staff value education over sales, making sure people understand tank parameters, compatibility, and special needs of the fish you are getting instead of selling you the fish and forcing you to find out the hard way. All in all, it is a very uplifting, welcoming atmosphere when you walk in the door. Their inventory is constantly changing, bringing in new things to give wide selection to their customers, and they are willing to special order fish, crustaceans, etc., for people. They also have some large, beautiful display tanks, full of different things to give ideas to people wanting to better their own tanks. I go in twice a week, both for feeders and to browse: this is something I could do anywhere (at least 3 place much closer to my house), but go here for the positive, uplifting staff as well as the wonderful selection of fish.

Great place to get a new aquarium or any additions to an existing one. They have a wide selection of both sweet and salt water fish, plants, corals or decorations. Of course they have a lot of Bettas as well in case you feel you need a fish right away. The staff is polite ready to help and knowledgeable. Even if you don't buy anything they will be happy to answer any questions and let you browse and admire their displays.

I've been to the store several times for plants others don't have readily in stock. They are a bit more expensive, but I like the idea of supporting local shops rather than chains where possible. The staff has always been friendly and, up until recently, very knowledgeable. One a previous visit, I wanted a substrate that would not cause a mess and be reliable for a planted tank that might undergo design changes periodically. I was soled a substrate on a staff member's recommendation that did exactly what I did not want it to do. Based on the other very positive experiences, I ignored this one mistake. What happened today will caused me to not use Aquariums Unlimited any more. I went looking for plants to put into a new and fully cycled aquarium that contained only a moss ball and a few micro sword cuttings just starting to grow. My first problem was that some of the plants I was looking for the person I was talking to didn't know about and never heard of. As it turns out, they actually carried them, but they were out of stock. The plants I did purchase were packaged by the employee without water. They did fix this after I asked them to. The snail I purchased was only singled bagged so when it bit through the single layer, all the water in the bag emptied out into my vehicle. Not much of a spill mind you, but still not really desirable to have a few cups of tank water on your floorboards. I point this out since many other shops will double bag some snails due to this possibility. I know that every time you but plants, you run the risk of getting hitch-hikers like pest snails. On this purchase, I found what appear to be two pond snails. What has never happened to me when buying from other local stores like PetSmart or Care-A-Lot or even on-line retainers is to be given a plant or plants infected with planaria. Considering these plants are for a shrimp tank, and the fact planria can kill shrimp, this is a major problem. Even if this tank were not meant for shrimp, planaria would still be a problem. If planaria are on these plants, then they were most likely grown in a pond rather than a more desirable environment like an aquarium or the aquariums in question were infected. The plants will also likely have hydra on them as well.

Staff are nice, good selection of tanks, like the store's name suggests. However, the fish sections aren't that big and I'd like to see some more soon. The Bettas are kept nicely, though, I like the small filtered tanks they live in. Prices aren't that bad either. I've gotten a black khuli loach from here once, sadly it was killed by my tetras, they never liked new fish.

I stopped into this store today while in town on business and I really wish I could have purchased something at this awesome store but couldn't because I cant bring the bag of water on the plane. I have to say this is absolutely the cleanest and most organized fish store I've personally ever been in and I am blown away by the amount of care given to these animals. If this store was in Ohio it would absolutely be my go to fish store. The fish selection and coral selection is kind of unbelieveable until you see it. Y'all are lucky to have such a great store like this in Virginia Beach. Stop in and check it out!!

This store is beautiful. They have multiple large display tanks ranging from community fish to large saltwater fish. They have a slightly small freshwater and plant section but a large and lush selection of saltwater goods. They also have loads of tanks, decorations and different foods and chemicals for fish aquariums. They also have a large selection of pond equipment and items. All their fish are healthy and well taken care of.

I've been in the reefing hobby going on two years now and I can say that this place gets five stars hands down from me. Store was clean and pretty well organized with selections of pretty much everything you need to get started or continue adding to your fresh/tropical or saltwater setup. Within 5 seconds of me entering I was greeted and the whole tour of the store I was continuously asked if I needed help with anything. Great customer service. Pricing is what you would expect. It seems everything in the store had about a $2-$5 hike in price compared to what I am use to up in Ohio. With that being said, their prices seamed right on track with the market in Virginia Beach. It's unfortunate I was not able to purchase anything seeing as I will be in the area for two more days and will not be able to keep anything alive until I get home. Definitely a store I would like to have in my area.

The single nicest fish store in Hampton Roads hands down no comparison. You can come here just for entertainment. I was lost in the amazing cichlid tank up front. All tanks are incredible. Somewhat slim selection of tropical fish, but they have all the basics in addition to some fairly exotic stuff that I had never seen locally before. Cichlid selection was superb. I don't do salt but it seemed really robust as well. Lots of accessories and supplies as well. Prices were surprisingly not too high. This place is must see for fish hobbyists. If you keep cichlids and haven't been here, you're REALLY missing out!

Getting started on a 55 gallon aquarium. We came to this store and were advised by staff to purchase Prime, Ph balancer, and tetra safestart. Got aquarium up and running, came back to have water tested. Different store employee tests water then states “ what did you use?” We explain what was recommended earlier. He states “ Well, I wouldn’t have recommended that. But I guess, add your fish, and if he lives, he lives.”

I was out of state and I went into the store a day ago and found a particularly big piece of gsp (green star polyp). I inquired about the price and an employee asked the manager and gave us the price of 150. Since I was leaving tomorrow I decided to come back to pick it up. I once again inquired about the price and it took 3 guys that seem very knowledgeable 5 minutes to decide the price. It actually had changed to 300. One of the guys said that they thought it was a pest and usually they grow like weeds, however the owner was so reluctant to sell at a good price. Basically contradicting each other. They change the price rapidly and are a not very reputable store to buy your livestock. However we did walk out of the store with a clown goby and hoping for the best. Tanks are treated with hypo salinity and prices are somewhat high. If you’re distant, don’t bother with the trip as you might end up wasting your time. We go to lots of stores out of state and many of them are higher caliber service wise. Only thing I’ll give them is the look of the stores and the display tanks. Also cute store dogs, I played fetch with one of them. Edit: The fish died, terrible stock, don't waste your time at all its terrible. If you want your fish tank infected with ich be my guest.

This is a pretty cool store to go in, very cool and beautiful aquarium setups, and the aquariums that hold all the stock itself look healthy and well maintained. They look like actual habitats instead of just tanks of water showing off merchandise, so it looks like a lot of care goes into this store. Very good selection of supplies for building custom setups and vivariums. Very large variety of both aquatic fauna and flora, a rainbow of shrimp, clams and other cleaners, too. Only word of advice, come dressed prepared, as this store has a tropical climate. Hot and humid, which I personally find quite pleasant, and downright delightful in the cold season.

Bought three fish yesterday- one was dead before I got home so left in th plastic bag it came in- two other fish were dead within an hour. 6 fish that were in the aquarium were alive and still are. So lemme think here- if we allowed our customer to talk instead of trying to do some two step on the water sample then perhaps the customer would not have walked out saying just throw it all away and forget it. See word of mouth is more important than trying to shift blame onto someone who admits to you initially that they could have fault. I’ll win it at PetSmart going forward and recommend them before this place

My fiancee and I came in here based upon the previous reviews. We just started preparations for a 30 gallon freshwater community tank and the staff here is just fantastic. They tested our current tank water, recommended some additional products to help with the process, and also recommended some starter fish as well. Fantastic knowledgeable staff!! They have all your needs for any fish tank at competitive prices. Even with the online world everything stays within the price range which I personally love. I like being able to go somewhere and purchase something without having to shop around for price and know I'm getting a good deal. Purchased everything for a new 125 gallon tank setup there and now the tank is up and running and good to go! It's nice to see a place with amazing prices and have it also be the best looking shop in town!

The store layout was impressive and the selection of fish was super impressive too. We had our toddler son with us and the two dogs there were cute, one of them shy. We are moving to virginia beach this October, and needed to find a local fish store. As everything equarium is our hobby, finding a good store is very important. We searched 4 or 5 other stores in the area and found this to be the best BY FAR! The entire staff is kind, uncommonly knowledgable, and extremely helpful. The animals are all healthy and brilliant. These are true experts and artists. If you own just a gold fish in a bowl, or a 1000 gallon salt tank with soft corals, I would recommend this store to you EXCLUSIVELY.

I enjoy coming here. Just like any other aquarium store, some have what you're looking for and some don't. Their prices are a lot higher than other as well, why I only buy certain things here.

I didn't like this place. I drove down here to pick up some duckweed and they wouldn't sell it to me because they said a 5-gallon tank was too small for it. Then gave me the third degree about wanting to buy ghost shrimp. People buy ghost shrimp for various reasons including as feeders so it shouldn't have been such an ordeal to get these inexpensive things. You can provide recommendations but you guys are not experts. There are plenty of people who have duckweed in much smaller tanks. It's a plant, if it doesn't work out, that's on me but to refuse to sell me any, ridiculous. I went to another aquarium shop and had no issues. Won't come here again.

Even if you don't have any fish, this is a great place to visit! My kids love going in and seeing all the different varieties of fish. The staff is extremely knowledge of all kids of fish- saltwater, freshwater, and pond!
