I love the food! But I love the icecream even more. My partner and I visited this place all summer long and were always satisfied. Additionally, the outdoor seating and picnic tables and chairs near the river makes this the perfect spot to hang out with family and friends in the afternoon.

You get what you pay for. The food was good fast food, but check your order because mess ups happen! It’s not rocket science, but when they leave something out (take out) and they have fried clams mixed in with your onion rings, then it’s time to talk with the staff.

Stopped on a lazy Friday afternoon I sat by the Riverside swinging tables and enjoy the fish and chips. Thin crispy coating on the fish with thick crispy natural skin french fries. Generous portion enjoyed very much. Regarding counter staff, cell phone use should be discouraged in front of customers

Love the ice cream and milkshakes at this institution. They've rebuilt beautifully after the hurricane but it's still the iconic place my grandmother used to take us for ice cream so many years ago - only now it's open year round with indoor tables (still prefer the outdoor seating by the river though).

Quaint eatery on a creek. Clam dinner was very good and the ice cream was a decent size. Take note this place is cash only, there is an atm located next to the order counter. Plenty of outdoor space to take in the nice view.

Not a place that I would go back to we ordered a clam and a scollop dinner one with fries and coleslaw and one with onion rings and slaw the batter on it was very bland scollops were Bay scollops and dry not the least bit moist,clams were ok but friescookef very inconsistent some hard some mushy not impressed won't stop again

My family and i were driving around on vacation looking for something to eat. We drove by this place that looked really nice. The White Cottage Snack Bar. It stood out as we drove by. There were seating outside along the river where you can eat which was another thing that caught my eye. I went in and checked out the menu. I took a few pictures of what they currently have and prices. Inside this place was pretty dirty and the food was very expensive. We looked online at some reviews of this place and people were saying their food was tasteless. So we didn't want to take the chance of spending a lot of money for lunch if people are saying its not the best tasting food. So we decided to leave and we ate elsewhere.

Plus: good location on a pretty river with lots of outdoor seating. Good with kids since they can wade in the water in nice weather. Minus: food is ok, nothing special. Ice cream is good but large sundaes are served in very small dishes so tend to drip over the side. Several times served burgers with wet lettuce that basically caused the bun to turn to mush.

We had a fantastic time with our four kids here on a hot day in July. We got the homemade fries and onion rings- the O rings were a step above. Great ice cream selection. After eating we headed outside to the creek and spent two hours- the kids made friends and played with the rocks. Bring your bathing suits!

HORRIBLE IN EVERY WAY. Do not bring your business here. I don’t even want to give a star. I walked up to the window and was treated like I was bothering her. She took her time to put her phone down to help me. Ridiculous. She wasn’t personable at all. I wish I had canceled my order when they told me it was cash only. The burger was raw and a soggy sloppy mess...my husband may throw it up he’s not feeling well at all. The onion rings were very greasy and the clam strips were a laughable portion. $30 wasted.

White Cottage is always a must during the Summer. Encountered a couple of rude workers, but the food..although really expensive...was great for a snack bar. The Clam Chowder needs more flavor, and not so soupy, but the whole belly clams are the best!

I've been coming here since I was a little girl. We used to get beautiful Softee ice cream here. Located in the same place-rebuilt after Hurricane Irene [2011] the only missing is its speed of service and friendly staff. As cashiers text-and I waited.i noticed only a few cars. This is the first summer like day in the 70's. This place used to be packed. Stop and sit a while. Enjoy a slower pace and old fashioned food and memories.

This was the best $14 spent in all of Vermont! It's a little snack place but it is really clean and the food is great! What we liked best were the wooden gliders where you could eat overlooking the stream. This was very nice! And the people were friendly and helpful :)

Tonight completely changed my option of an establishment I have been to a few dozen times. Our party of 12 placed our orders. When mine came out I very nicely said I believe my clam plate dinner is missing the onion rings-I had just glanced at it as my husband carried the tray to outside seating. I was asked for my “ticket”. I said my husband took it outside. The three girls behind the counter began discussion my onion rings and whether or not they were there. Apparently one alerted the owner who stormed over to me and again questioned the ticket. He wanted to SEEthe food. I said “My party and food are outside. It appears this is becoming a big issue to you all so let’s just forget it”. By this time it had been like five mins of chatter in the back. The owner IN AN ARM CAST climbed under the service window while yelling at me that he needed to find my food. He literally went outside (per my party) scanning the tables for my food. He said to the five people at my table “SEE THE ONION RINGS ARE THERE UNDER THE CLAMS!” As I was walking outside he scolded me telling me “I played that myself!!!”. I said I’m sorry I missed the onion rings however the amount of food was so small it seemed hard to believe they were there. (I’ve ordered this exact meal every time I’ve gone there so I know what it looks like) He stormed back to the kitchen where I heard him angrily gloat to his staff that he was right. Unbelievable!!! So yup there were four soggy thin flat onions rings on my plate cover by clams. My bad. When another member of our party told them he did not get his side of fries he had a similar experience. I will spare the details but you can see where this is going. We drop approximately $200 at this place where you order at a window and clean your own table. Who with an sense would risk loosing customers over a side of fries and onion rings. We were looking to just spend a nice warm spring night with friends while our kids hung out in the stream. He came marching out several times with his face in a scowl while we ate. We brushed of his caveman behavior and joked about ways to put him edge. Mature. No. Funny as hell. Yupper. Get a grip bud.

While the scenery was nice I was greatly disappointed by the staff. The person who took our order stood in the window and never acknowledged us. I finally realized she was waiting for us even though she kept talking to someone behind us. Even when we started to order our food I want sure she hears is at first, she was so listless. I'm saddened that whoever too over the place had decided to bring workers from our of state to work in the White Cottage as opposed to hiring local people, especially high schoolers to work there in the summer. I will most likely not be back. I know other local places that have nice, outdoor atmosphere with good food.

Had a very delicious blueberry pomagranate sorbet today. We'll be back next week for some clams. Love the shady eatting areas right next to the river. We watched 2 ducks feeding from the bottom of river today. This is a great place to have a very relaxing meal or snack, very clean restaurant, very good food, nice service, reasonably priced food, and clean bathrooms that are handicap accessible. Just FYI cash only NO credit cards accepted...there is an ATM on site.

Seafood was perfectly prepared and certainly tasty. Wonderful location with lots of outdoor seating to enjoy the local river/stream. They don't take credit/debit cards, but there is an ATM right inside the building.

4 years ago I took my girl scouts on a trip to NY, We stopped at the white cottage on the way there to have lunch by the water. We again stopped on the way back this time eating inside. I had no idea they didn't take debit cards and we are not allowed to take cash out of the atm. The man was so nice and offered to let me mail a check when I got home. We didn't have to do this because a mom paid the bill, I was so impressed by the mans offer. I cont. to do this trip this being my 4th yr. I came though in July, Stopping for lunch we all needed to pee. The two bathrooms were taken and one was taken for over 15 mins. A worker came around the corner, Seeing a friend in line told the lady "she was allowed to use the one at the top of the stairs" We still had to wail. Needless to say I was not impressed and decided to eat our lunch down the road. We stopped on the way home feeling like its been a tradition we really were not hungry so we got ice cream, Service was very slow... I then tried our "tradition" again this week, We stopped to eat a packed lunch by the water yet a bunch of people were there so we couldn't. We put our stuff down on a table above to think about what to do, Only to be yelled at by staff that its not a picnic area, Needless to say on the way home we stopped at Apple be's. I travel this trip one more time this Monday and its sad that we have to come up with a new spot to stop each way, Best of luck with the business. I really hope the staff learns HOW to speak to customers, Yelling only makes for less customers...
