I've been buying my fish at Animal Ark Orem since about 2004. All the fish I have purchased from them have lived a long happy life. I just recently had two 13 year old fish die of old age. They were both purchased from Animal ark Orem. They had reached a large size and were beautiful. I have always been impressed with the high level of intelligence the staff at Animal Ark Orem has about fish. Even though I have moved quite a ways away from Animal Ark Orem, I still make the drive to receive advice about my 60 gallon aquarium and to purchase fish. They literally are the best there is

The employees seem very knowledgeable, but the store itself is not great. I’ve seen them mix bunnies and guinea pigs in the same cages on the floor, and I’ve seen them stuff about 8-10 adult rats into a 10 gallon tank. The store is very cramped, and has too many animals and aisles for such a small space. Also, almost everything is extremely overpriced. I would not recommend this store. It surprises me how many people seem to like it and give it such good reviews. I’d rather shop at Petsmart or Petco for supplies.

Super awesome, tons of animals, saltwater fish, coral, lizards, puppies, and kittens. They even had a Bengal cat for sale when I was there. A little crowded but but definitely worth the visit. Staff is friendly and knowledgable. I didnt ask but I think they have feeders and would probably get you almost anything you need. 5* place.

The staff here are amazing. I was a first timer with aquariums and they all seemed to be professionals in the field. Their aquarium supplies are top-notch, and unchallenged in variety. I do not give 5 stars because the prices seem to be a little higher than one would expect, I typically find what I need here and order it on Amazon. I also don't give 5 stars because there are times when I have gone to check out fish, and I have not always found them in the best conditions.

They recently sold me a puppy with a clean bill of health. Then I call in a couple days after his adoption inquiring about their vet checkup thing and the girl on the phone asks if I have the puppy with a hernia. This was news to me... had I known, I would have chosen a different dog. And yes, afyer a vet exam, I did in fact have the puppy with a hernia. They didn't say anything until after the adoption. I don't trust them anymore :(

They have pretty much everything you need to maintain and car for any pet. If it has scales, feathers, or fur this is the place for you!

The staff was very helpful when we went to pick out a cat. The woman helping us was very knowledgeable about the animals there and gave us good advice about the cat we wanted to adopt. It seemed like they actually interacted with their animals there more than you see in the larger pet stores. We found a really sweet tempered kitten and we couldn't love her more!

I drove 40 minutes to this store based on facebook reviews and people on reddit, as they "have the best betta fish in Utah, and best selection of aquascaping supplies" while they did have a large selection of aquascaping supplies, they were all marked up about 20% higher than any other pet store or fish store I've been to in this state. On top of that about 1 in every 5 "Show quality" betta they had was dead, dying or had massive fin rot, they were kept in clear solo cups with horrible water conditions (tested in the car after we rescued two of the poor things, and ammonia was through the roof). The employees couldn't even ID the type of betta I bought from them, which was an HMPK but they charged me for a 'Wild Type' when there weren't even any wild type betta on the shelf. Thankfully both the betta I saved from these people have made leaps and bounds in their recovery. I have seen better cared for and much better quality betta in petsmart and petco than I saw here, and for about $15 cheaper on each type they offered here. If you're passionate about fish and care about how they're treated, you shouldn't support the way this store treats them. Animal cruelty applies to all animals.

This place is awesome. Mike the owner is always in the store helping cutsomters. My boyfriend and I bought an axolotl from here and were happy with out purchase and the staff they are very knowledgeable and helpful. We came back the next day just to add a living plant to our tank. Mike ended up exceeding expectations and took us around the store to find plants and then he actually glued and attached them to a decoration we had for our tank right there in the store. Now that they're attached with Mike's help the living plants can grow around the decoration! I am beyond happy with our purchases made here. This is the only pet store we will go now. Mike, his wife, and staff are all beyond helpful and knowledgeable.They have a wide variety of pets here and they care for them all as if they were their own. I highly recommend this pet store!

Animal Ark is such a cool place to find you next friend and family member. Kids love it as well. It's hard to find shops like this anymore. I will ship here over Petco any day. Supporting small businesses is the only way to work and contribute to your community. And it helps when a business like this one truly cares about it's animals and it's customers. The variety of reptiles and arachnids is amazing and so fun. They also have puppies, bunniies, mice, rats, birds and fish.

I love this place. They're always so friendly and helpful! I've bought two gorgeous tarantulas here (Honduran curly hair and metallic pink toe) and I'm looking to add a third to my collection soon. They take very good care of the animals here and are more than helpful when it comes to care inductions. Furthermore, the aquariums and vivariums are gorgeous! Honestly, I love coming here just to look around sometimes. I always see someone new.

Was here recently, and it was a pretty sad sight. The store is a small space, but they seemed overstocked since most of the animals were in pens/cages that were far too small. The store itself was pretty dirty, and the birds especially looked miserable in tiny mucky cages, some without clean water available. The staff is very friendly, and I never like to review negatively... but they need to carry far fewer animals if each one can't get the space and care it needs. Very sad.

Great place with awesome selection. Staff seems to be very knowledgeable and easily answered every question I had without hesitation. Pretty pricey compared to other stores but has way more cool and unique fish and animals than your common petsmart or petco. My only complaint is they are very busy the times I went there and were understaffed. They need a bigger store with more employees for how many people were in there. Also they charge extra to have your fish guaranteed for a short period of time after charging you more than other places while if you can find the animal you want at a bigger store like petsmart or petco they guarentee it for 30 days for free.

This is by far the most interesting and fun pet store to go walk through and look at all the animals. My main interest in pet stores is the fish and animal ark has a wide selection which is great. However, I haven't and probably won't ever buy fish from them. They are usually VERY over priced. Sometimes as high as 2x as expensive as you could find in other pet stores or even online (not including shipping). Additionally, as is a common problem with fish, they are kept in bad conditions which means they aren't going to be in the best shape when you buy them. With that in mind Animal ark does not guarantee that their fish are healthy or will even survive a few days. This is my biggest complaint with them and why I won't ever buy fish from them. To spend 2x as much as a fish is sold in most other places and then have NO assurance that your fish isn't going to drop dead and you'll be out that amount is just ridiculous. That being said they do offer fish insurance. You just have to pay 1/5 of the fishes already overpriced price to insure the fish for 10 days (a policy much shorter than most pet stores offer for free). I love coming and looking at this store. I come probably 1-2x a week. I think their selection of fish is great, I think their newly added salt water section is beautiful and more fairly priced than the freshwater. Their dry goods and decorations are fairly priced. The employees are helpful but often not very knowledgeable. I have called and asked about fish stock before to be told that a certain fish doesn't exist (when they had that fish in store and in a tank a few days before). I would recommend going elsewhere to buy your pets but if you are looking to see what you want I would definitely recommend coming and strolling through Animal Ark.

I'm not sure, but the sink in the back was especially gross. Other than cleanliness, this is the best pet store in the area IMHO. The staff are really friendly and knowledgable. My husband and I bought our first dog here and couldn’t be more happy. First of all, she is, I feel, a rare dog. Not only is she a rarely seen Dalmatian, but she is also incredibly intelligent and well behaved. She is healthy and happy. Most important though, we wouldn’t have found her without the help of Animal Ark and their well trained staff. McKay in particular was very helpful to us. Like I said, it’s our first dog and he told us everything we need to know about puppy care. He directed us to all the important items we would need without trying to upsell. (In fact, he actually threw in a free toy for her!) McKay was so kind and patient with us and showed all the animals so much respect. He nearly cried as we drove away as he loved our pup just as much as we did and do. This is our personal story. I can promise you that you cannot go wrong shopping at Animal Ark in Orem. You will have a wonderful experience with any and all the staff (especially McKay). You can be confident that your future pet will have been given the care it needs. Great job you guys! We will be back!

Spiders shoved in small plastic containers like what petsmart keeps Betta in. Dogs and cats and rabbits in tight spaces with no comfort or blankets. Animals look depressed and very unhappy. Small store with enough animals for a large store and that’s not a compliment. Very inhumane

Bought a couple fish from here to add some color to my fish tank. We had 5 Bala sharks in a 125 gallon tank, we’ve had these fish for 6 years and two of them were 1.5 feet long the other 7-8 inches. Well we added these new fish to our tanks and not a week later all our bala sharks died, Every single one... it was a fungal infection, they refused to test our water sample we brought in. Refused to say anything about it and it’s really sad we drove 30 mins for nothing.. even petco will test the water to see who’s at blame for the fish dying he blamed us for them dying... it’s sad it’s been 6 years and all our fish are dead how did they survive for 6 years yet when we bought fish from your store 4 days later all our fish died.. We started with a small 30 gallon tank to a 50,75, 100 and now the 125. I will not be buying anything from this store again.

It may be small, but they have a great selection of animals and accessories (especially fish and reptiles!!) and they take very good care of the animals they have. Everything is very clean and tidy. We adopted a dog here a few years ago, and I'm not sure where their breeders are from, but I'm guessing they go the same route as a Puppy Barn would. Our dog is sweet, but he certainly has some issues that seem connected to improper breeding or being separated from his mother too young. He has severe memory loss problems and gets sick quite easily, just a couple of the issues we've noticed, which are not typical for his breed. I would recommend buying elsewhere, especially for the high prices these dogs go for.

Great place if you are looking for a new pet. They have a variety of animals to look at - rabbits, guinea pigs, rats, cats, puppies, snakes, lizards, birds, turtles, and a large variety of fish. Very bad I bought a used cage for 40 then found out it wasn't just used it was unusable the owner refused to give me a refund or in store credit case he's cheap he thinks he got a way with selling a peace of trash,so if you're looking for a pet go any where elts cause you will be charged more there like say petco has bearded dragons for 59 they think they can charge 250.00 so 200.00+then any where also all other animals cheaper anywhere elts they manly are like that case of a greedy new owner ya lets see how long they last but fill free go see there prices compared to any were elts hope and no this help you thanks

AMAZING. If you want fish or reptiles, THIS IS WHERE YOU GO. Best place in all of Utah Valley and surrounding areas. They really know how to take care of their animals. If you walk into any pet store anywhere, the reptiles and fish will almost always be sick in some way and will die on you unless you get the animal from a breeder. Not at Animal Ark! Everything is so healthy and well cared for! The staff are highly trained and the owners are wonderful! It's been a family business for years, and it was recently sold to their close friend and store manager. The original owners still have involvement with the store, and the new owner has introduced marine fish! SO COOL. Although, I would recommend that you not buy dogs or cats there, because I wouldn't recommend you getting dogs or cats at any pet store. It's much better to go to a shelter :).

This used to be my family's favorite pet store. However, now that new ownership has been introduced I feel a great sadness whenever I walk in. Animals are kept in enclosures far too small for their needs, reptiles are often found underfed and without proper hydration, and I have even witnessed animals being dropped by employees and returned to enclosures with no care to their health or safety. I will never buy a pet from this store for I dont want to bring home an animal I wish to love, and then have it die soon after due to improper care within the store. If this store had proper ownership then I could see it returning to its former glory. Until then I refuse to give them my business any longer.

I haven't ever purchased anything from here. But I love to come look at all the animals, they seem healthy and well cared for, the birds, mice, fish, and reptiles are always lively and active. And they puppies are so sweet and cuddly looking. If I were to ever get a pet this would be the place that I would come. This an amazing little local pet shop. It's very cozy and small but its packed with goodness. The animals come from local breeders. They have high quality pet food such as Taste of the Wild. The staff there really cares about you, and more importantly, your animals. I would highly recommend this place especially if you are pro supporting local businesses!

Not a fan of pet stores that use private breeders to sell puppies/kittens instead of shelter pets for adoption. Also overheard one of the guys telling a potential buyer that it's best to get a puppy with a senior dog to make it easier when the senior dog dies. What he didnt mention is the potential stress it would put on the senior dog. Also no one knew what the breed of dog was but kept guessing it was mixed with some kind of poodle. For $799 you better know what its mixed with.

If I could I would give it zero stars, all the animals are so cramped. There’s no space. The birds in the front at suppose to be in big open cages but instead their in small cramped spaces. They have to many animals and over pricing all of them! Their poor dogs cramped laying on the floor instead of their beds because it’s so hot in there. Snakes are in bowls. Big birds all cramped in one. If you can not sell the animals you already have than why are you getting more! It makes me very very upset. I consider this animal abuse for all the animals there. Please help find these poor animals help. If I had the money to get all those animals out of those cramped places I would.

I love this place and their staff but please take your new pet to a vet after buying a pet from here, not the vet they recommend! A vet specialized to help you take long term care for your new family member to make sure it does it doesn't have a pre-existing illness. I bought the sweetest turquoise conure from here and it promptly dropped dead 3 weeks later from a pre-existing illness! Breaks my heart

This is one of the best pet stores I've ever seen. They have a TON packed into their little space and they know their stuff, too! Excellent selection of fish, lizards, arachnids, birds, and furry pets, too. And Cooper the kookaburra? Worth going just to check him out and get him calling, so cool. The guy that does a lot of their fish stuff, he's really good at aquascaping the tanks and it's always awesome to admire his work.

My wife and I come here all the time, even just to see what they have in stock! This store has an impressive variety of pets both common and not; puppies, kittens, snakes, lizards, rodents, tons of fish, and even your odd spiders and such. The store is well-kept and the animals all look healthy. They will occasionally have rabbits or puppies out to be pet in order to socialize them, which is fun. It's a high quality establishment despite being a bit on the old side. The staff are young but pretty knowledgable.

Animal ark is the best! When I was 15 and bought my own puppy 20 years ago they were great but now they're FANTASTIC. They answered every question we had and helped my daughter buy her first exotic pet. They were so kind and patient and made us all feel comfortable. We will come back and recommend to everyone! I am impressed about their fresh water fish and planted tank supplies. They clearly have a passion for these. I looked at all of the pet stores in SLC and found the best specialty fish, plants, rocks and driftwood 5 miles from my house. Love the service. I will return there for supplies. Great customer service. Answered all of my questions about my new hobby. Very Impressed!

Awful! If you're in a wheelchair just go somewhere else. Not only is getting through the door a challenge but don't plan on making it down the isles. Not only can you not turn, but the employees leave step stools in the middle of the already cramp isle. As far as getting help goes, get real, the two socialites working when I was there didn't even acknowledge me, even though I nearly ran one down after realizing there was no other way to get out except to backup. The smell was the worst though, it was a combination of damp swamp mixed with fecal matter. Totally disgusting! Unless you`re planning a rescue, I'd think twice before buying an animal here.

It's a tiny store but they have some cool pets, like a massive frog/toad and a cuckaburra (I think thats what it's called). There puppies and cats are usually pure bread and to expensive for my blood.
