The only reason a place like this can stay in business is tradition because the food is not good. Not only is this the worst fish and chips I could find but it's way over priced. You pay extra for everything, like cole slaw and tartar sauce. When every other place includes it and is better, if even most are just marginally better at least they don't scrape the insides of your pockets. I wouldn't mind paying more than average if the fish didn't taste like a Blackstone River catch served in old oil broth. It isn't just the fish and chips they completely wreck. The Manhattan Clam chowder is terrible, too. My kids couldn't bite through the quadruple deep fried chicken at all. The portions are huge so the bad news is the food is horrible the good news is there is tons of it. I do have to say the service is excellent and the employees are super friendly. The place is pretty clean and I like the location.

So, I'll start with that the food was fantastic. Unfortunately, the staff were not. There's an open dining room but no signage that says you have to order, wait and get your food from the carry out counter. We used the menu online bc there were none to look at there other than a wall. Online menu was not consistent , they forgot to give us tartar sauce and coleslaw. Then when we asked after the fact the staff argued, over tartar sauce, it was so frustrating. We will not be back. It was uncomfortable and entirely not worth the food.

I grew up in Woonsocket eating here. The fish cakes are the best around. The plain fish, and clam and seafood chowders are great too. I don't live in Woonsocket anymore but travel here just for the fish cakes.

Not happy at all, we haven't been there in a while so we decided to go there for supper and boy was that a bad move. I ordered the regular fish and chips and she ordered the small like she always did, even though the fish was good mine was the same size as what she used to get for a small and hers was literally about 5 bites of fish, and you have to pay extra for coleslaw and tarter sauce and $3 for a cup of soda from a fountain machine, so not worth the price or the ride, we'll never go back again

I typically order the fish and chips with the whole belly clams, a few years ago they used to hook you up nice with the whole belly clams now you're lucky to get a couple nice ones and the rest are just clam strips but it's good A little greasy but good

This was some of the least edible food I've had in years. Took two orders of Fish and Chips to go, five minutes away. Fish tasted 'off' but the real problem was the texture of the fish, it was mush. It was as if they pureed it then dripped, battered and fried it. This was both pieces of fish so not a one off. Threw it away, just not palatable. The fries were good and plentiful, the take out service was fast, efficient and friendly.

In the mood for traditional Fish & Chips? This is the place! Awesome food, warm friendly staff, reasonable prices... Clam bellies... yum! Both the red chowder and the white seafood chowder are excellent and of course the F&C - which are available in smaller portions for seniors and the kids. Only drawback would be going on a Friday during Lent if you're in hurry... Call ahead... they are quick but I swear most of New England is there lol

Nobody can beat the fish here. Fries are a bit soggy on most occasions. If they made better fries, I wouldn't recommend any other fish and chips joint. But the chips are part of the dish and not so yummy.

I couldn't tell you if it's the batter or the fresh fish or the oil used in the fryer but this is the best fish and chips plate you will EVER have anywhere. Worth the drive to Woonsocket. The french fries remind me of a bar/diner I used to get take out from as a kid. The batter perfectly coats the fish, the fish isn't weird smelling, perfect french fries, I highly recommend this shop!

They have wonderful customer service and great food. One customer had a bit too much to drink and was acting obnoxious but that's not the fault of the establishment. They worked hard trying to get him safely to his destination. I commend them for being tactful and apologetic to us, and I will be going back to the restaurant again.

Been coming here since I was a kid. Best Fish and Chips around. Batter has a unique flavor no others have... I mean that in a good way. I visit once every couple of years for my fix. However, I wish they would stop the practice of pre making the fish and letting it sit. My fish was still warm, but the batter didn't have that light crispiness as when made fresh. I realize they may be doing this in anticipation of large customer volume, but I would rather wait a little longer for freshly fried fish. Also, change the oil more often. If you're unlucky enough to get a portion fried in old oil, it affects the flavor adversely.Have to take a star off for this.

Messed up a take out order. Was not busy. Just not paying attention. Shorted us one fish and chips. When I called to complain the worker who messed up our order told me to bring back my order to recount it!!! Not sure if she did not believe me when I passed the the food. The order was not that complex (3 fish and chips, 1 children’s fish and chips, 1fish, 6 clam cakes, 1 quart chowder. The added one free fish because one of the fish and chips was over cooked. So when I asked to have my credit card get credit for one fish and chips the manager, well I know we have you an extra fish. So she only credited me the chips!!! I was too angry to keep talking to remember that they also forgot to add the two extra tartar sauce I ordered. Grew up in Woonsocket and visit my parents but never coming back here.

I would honestly give this place a 2.5 stars just because the register girl gave me back my $2 for overcooking my Clam Cakes. They came out like a Dark Brown, I have pictures but dont know how to attach them. As far as my first experience here, it wasnt great for the price I paid. $27 for 2 fish & chips, one with 3 clam cakes and a Sprite. If u want a faster service and great fish&chips visit Brother's Pizzeria in Providence RI, so far they are the BEST. I have tried many places. Customer service here is just ok.

1st time visit. Order, pickup, and sit service. I got their "famous" fish and chips. The fried fish was pretty good. The batter was tasy and much was crispy but too heavy for my taste. It seemed like a significant amount of the average sized portion was batter. The fries were real fried potatoes and were very good. I expect real potatos to get a bit soggy after a few minutes so I didnt mind. Cole slaw and the red chowder were terrific! I will go again to try the scollops and clams next time.

I've been here a fair few times with my partner's family, and brought my own family along when they were over. Really good food, definitely authentic enough for my liking, and I'd 100% recommend this place to anyone! As good as any place back in the UK!

Had combo scallops and full belly clams. The scallops were good but there were NO bellies on the clams.. was not worth $20+ for the plate. Been eating here on and off for over 50 years. Very disappointed . Will have to stick with Red Wing in Walpole MA

Absolutely the best English style fish and chips in the area! Red clam and white seafood chowder are excellent as well... Lines can definitely get long on a Friday or the weekend (especially during Lent) so plan accordingly. They have a limited amount of dine in space. Also, their prices are a bit high (kinda worth it though!).

Yesterday I visited and ordered a fish and chip and 2 orders of chicken and chips with my younger cousins. A girl in glasses yells out two fish and chips and two chicken and chips several times before looking at me and saying my order is ready. I walked to the counter and politely told her that I had only ordered on fish and chip and 2 of the chicken and chips. The same girl looks at me and says well it looks like you have an extra. I asked her if I was charged for it as she told me no. I showed her my receipt which was over $48! The chicken meal is only $8.05 and the fish meal is $11.25. The girl rolls her eyes and said that that was the correct price for a fish and chip and two chicken and chips! I told her that it couldn’t be right and that I couldn’t afford to pay for the extra fish and chip. The girl again said the pricing is correct. While $11 dollars doesn’t seem a lot it is because it’s the money I need to have so I can buy a plane ticket to Georgia to see a family members graduation from basic and turn into an airborne army ranger. I would have not had a problem if the girl actually was respectful and if she fixed her mistake and refunded my money. I’ve been a loyal customer for many years now while there food is good their customer service does not match!!

Great fish and chips, I've been going there since I was 8. Love the fries and it's all too familiar smells... HOWEVER I find the prices are getting high and I consider it petty for a place to actually charge extra for the FIRST set of tartare sauce and coleslaw... this place averages approx. $2-$3 more for their order of fish n chips THEN more for the "extras"... for shame.....

This place is quite different, you order your food get it from the counter and then seat yourself wherever you desire. Of course I had some fish n chips and the fish was delicious but the fries unfortunately were not to be desired. Definitely worth coming here for some fish because they were generous with the fish and didn't go overboard with the batter.

Over-priced! Soggy fries beneath the fish, on a tiny plate. Paid $45 (lunch for 2) and we left hungry. Oh, and no refills on $3 plastic cup of coke... and you serve yourself. This place is a glorified overpriced cafeteria. Edit: if you are constipated, this is a great place to eat.

A local legend in Woonsocket, open for nearly a century as of 2018. Offers English style fish and chips as well as Rhode Island staples like clam cakes, both pictured below. This is a happy marriage of English pub food and traditional Rhode Island meals. Some complain of old oil or grease, my meal was oily, but the taste was good. Oil taste was fine. They have a large amount of customers each day which could account for oil variation. The chips are thick, springy and slightly limp, cooked to a brown finish. This is actually a good match for the fish where you wouldn't want the crunch to overpower the fish batter. It is seafood so prices are seasonal. I was able to get the signature Fish & Chips and three clam cakes for $14.50 in May 2018. Portion sizes are large so bring an appetite. Overall it is a good amount of seafood for the price. Hopefully this doesn't change. The restaurant appears to be committed to serving the people of Woonsocket, which is a good sign. If you are in the Blackstone Valley area and want a good traditional meal this place is a must visit. Rhode Island overall is a great eating state from my perspective as someone from Philadelphia.

Not a bad location, clean and spacious (restaurant side)... Self service very busy.. However dont know when the cooking oil was last changed..fries were almost grey coloured.. Fish was cooked (steamed) because the batter on the outside was crispy..but inside was uncooked. Drove a long way to try "One of the best fish & chips in New England" ..sorely disappointed. Seems folks here dont know what a real fish & chips taste like... Go to the UK and find out.

Ordered the seafood platter and it was awful. The chips and fish were extremely oily, the shrimp was so hard it was hard to bite and chew. I nearly choked on it. The only thing I did enjoy was the scallops. I have noticed the quality of the food has really suffered. This is the second time in a row I have not liked the food. I will not be going back.

I will preface this by saying that I am a food critic and have had many a fish and chips in England. That being said this establishment was one of the closest places outside of England. My only critique would be that the battering of the fish was a little heavy. I would like to see it much lighter.

He Olde English Fish and Chips is a Woonsocket staple. It's been around for along time. Friday's it's a circus with a line out the door. That's alright because it's a reasonable place with good simple food people like to eat. Service is always friendly and nice and the 81 year old owner is a very nice guy. I recommend this as one of Woonsockets finest cheap eats places.

We absolutely love the food here. I have loved coming here for many years. Since I grew up in the town, I just thought that was how fish and chops and seafood was everywhere but boy was I very wrong. Ye Olde English has amazing food and has kept it's nostalgic decor and feel. The fish cakes are one of my many favorites here. There is no where else that has fish and chips, fish cakes and seafood that is as great as they make it at Ye Olde. If you are just passing through or are native to the town of Woonsocket, this is the place to stop by to get the best seafood that I have ever had in the entire country. You won't be disappointed.

I have always enjoyed coming here. I have never had any problems and the food has always been pretty good. But last week I came in and the staff seemed to be so tense and disorganized. The manager instead of helping the staff seemed to just give orders when they asked for help when it was very busy. I like the food but the service wasn’t great... seemed like a lack of communication in my opinion. I hope this improves.

Best fish and chips! They switched their tartar sauce years ago though and it just has not been the same. I believe they use to carry Cain's Tartar sauce. But I bought it at Stop and Shop (or at least the cain's consumer product) and it smells just the same but taste just a bit different. Could it be that the 1 gallon bulk recipe is a little different? or is that the wrong brand entirely? Does anyone know what tartar sauce they use to carry? And where to get it? ....... I really wish they never changed the tartar sauce. Its just generic tasting now :-(
