This place is amazing. Small, but lots of interesting and beautiful fish for sale... It looks like a wider array of coral frags are coming soon. The owners are very friendly as well!
My husband and I were not impressed. It felt like more of a garage than a store. We were not asked if we needed any assistance and had to find someone to help. We both think Cuttle Fish and Corals has a much friendlier staff and a clean store.
Well knowledged and very
What an awesome place! We were visiting Portland from out of state, and were looking for local saltwater/coral shops. We saw that Woody's Seahorse had really good reviews so we had to check it out. They have a great selection of coral frags (LPS and SPS), as well as saltwater fish, anemones, hermit crabs, and of course seahorses. Everything looked so healthy and well cared for, with clean tanks. You can tell that they take a lot of pride in their craft. They're extremely friendly and knowledgeable about the animals they sell, and can answer any of your questions or just have a fascinating conversation with you about the saltwater hobby. I was especially impressed by how well they packed up our purchases for us, knowing that we were going to be flying back with them. They wrapped everything up so well, sealed watertight and bound in a very thick layer of bubble wrap, that it survived two flights in our checked baggage without a single issue. Perfect condition. They didn't have to do that, and could have just left it to us to figure out how to get it all back safely, but that just shows you how much care and effort they put into what they do. If we ever find ourselves back in Portland one day, we'll definitely be coming back to Woody's Seahorse. I wish we had a place like this in Birmingham: a local, small business run by people who are truly dedicated to the hobby, and whose passion is reflected in the care of their animals.
Always helpful and family owned. They really know fish and coral.
Terry is great to talk to he is never too busy to show you new creatures that might be hiding somewhere in his tanks
I took my niece and nephew here after watching finding Nemo. They loved it! The staff were super friendly and gave us great fun facts. As we looked at all of the fish we could tell that they truly loved and knew about their critters. Would highly recommend! I will be back with my other nieces soon!
Always has the healthiest fish around, and a nice selection for the size of shop. Terry knows his stuff!
Small place but really cool fish and frags for sale
Great customer service. They know a lot.
Decent place. Local Salt water source
Kind and helpful. Woody would be proud.
This is the best place to go if you want to start with saltwater fish. Woody has helped me be successful with my fish and live rock setup over the last 14 years. He has vast practical knowledge. I like buying the high quality pre-mixed saltwater there, very affordable. It makes keeping a marine tank a breeze.
Friendly, helpful and knowledgeable. Beautiful saltwater fish and coral. On the smaller side, but has everything you need. Great local, family owned business.
Largest variety I have seen in Portland. Good quality, good prices, great customer service. Location is a little strange, but you will get past that once you visit your first time.
Best saltwater fishstore in Portland
Woodys has helped me from the setting up of my reef and helped me with any problems that have come up its not just about the money with them . Its my go to store
Love Woody's Seahorse. My wife and I enjoy the great selection of fish and coral at great prices. Terry is very knowledgeable and helps us out so much. He does not try to get us to spend money on things we don't need.
Fantastic Service! I bought a brand new 125 gallon tank, stand, sump, lights from Woody's. Firstly it was a great deal. Second they stand behind everything they sell. My first sump developed a leak about 2 month after I bought it. Terry came over when the store closed and tried to fix it. He did a good job of slowing down the leak but it was not completely fixed. The next day he sent over two other people to help fix it. They got the leak down to a very occasional drip. Knowing that the sump was likely unfixable, Terry ordered a new sump. He had it custom built and it was better than the first. He took into consideration my ATO and controller and slightly redesigned it so it was even better. He had it made by a different builder too. I am very happy with them!
Woody and crew are always super-helpful and friendly. Very knowledgeable and able to order anything. His old-school approach to aquariums is refreshing and interesting. He is willing to help via email.
Went here with my husband yesterday. Woodys daughter and son inlaw are helping run the place they were super helpful. The tanks all looked clean and healthy. They had a great selection of frags and larger corals. I would highly recommend this place especially if your just starting out and have questions they are incredibly patient and willing to answer a ton of questions whether by phone or email. We will definitely be going back .
Great selection, clean prestine tanks, knowledgeable staff, friendly and great prices.
Woodyand Terry are very patient with new inexperienced hobbiest. Dont let the unconventional location detour you. These guys are straight up with affordable pricess. The tanks look well maintained and the stock looks healthy if they dont have it just ask and they will get it. They loaned me a whole saw and jig to drill through my glass saved me $40.00 on that alone. The salt and di water are affrodable and easy access.
Super helpful and willing to spend time discussing your setup and how you can be successful at whatever stage you are at in the hobby. I bough a tank from someone who had credit at Woody's and they didn't bat an eye transferring it to me as part of the purchase, which was awesome.
Love these guys!!!
We've been Seahorse customers for over 10 years and plan to continue to be for many more! Some of the first saltwater fish I purchased a decade ago are still alive and doing well. I'm always impressed by the selection of corals they have and the unique fish they stock. More importantly, their service is top notch and they really make you feel welcome in their store. Recently we experienced a disaster with our house due to a major water leak that required us to completely take down our 90 gallon tank. Without bating an eye, Terry and his wife took in our fish and coral temporarily while repairs were being made on our house. We now have our tank back up and running and just got our fish and coral back yesterday. They took care of our fish and coral like they were their own. We are so grateful and can't wait until our tank is mature enough to add in more coral and fish.
Best Saltwater Store for any saltwater need in the Portland area for sure, Terry is the man, he is always friendly and doesn’t try to just sell, sell, sell...well actually take time to help you have a successful reef
Lots of nice fish selection and very helpful
Great store, experienced people at your service.
Super Helpful Service!
What a great place! It's super small, but it's packed with tons of really cool saltwater fish and things, and the staff is extremely knowledgeable, I'm so happy that we were able to make it in there and find this diamond in the rough!
Very friendly, very helpful. Best place in Portland.
They have awesome seahorse's
Best saltwater fish tank support/supplies/fish/corals in Portland. You rock!
I started my saltwater and reef hobby in the year 2000. However, at first, I had no idea what I was doing and so I ended up losing be a bunch of fish and a bunch of money due to my lack of knowledge and lack of any good customer service from the local stores in Portland. Then around the beginning of 2002, I bought my first 29 gallon saltwater and reef tank setup from Woody and he ended up giving me some of the most helpful and best advice anyone could get. I learned a lot from him. I did the hobby for around 6 successful years and then quit due to working so much and not having the time and money to dedicate myself anymore to the hobby. Anyways, I decided that I better give my review now 17 years later. YouTube and Google reviews didn't even exist back then. I may stop in someday just to say hi. Jamey
Really lovely, very knowledgeable owners in an intimate (garage) setting, some beautiful fish and more seahorses than you'll ever see in one place. Prices are very reasonable.
Great for exotic and awesome looking fish, but not much in terms of supply.
What a fascinating place!
I love this shop! I’ve gotten outstanding advice and Terry and his wife never tire of sharing their knowledge with me. Having just gone through ick in my reef tank taking their advice on fallowing my tank and treating my fish has given me a fresh start with a healthy tank. From here on out I will only shop for livestock at Woody’s!
Very friendly staff. I was after fresh water snails, but my girls loved roaming around checking out all the sea life.
Not a large selection at all. The whole set up is in a garage and is just very weird. Cuttlefish and Corals is way better and more selection with a friendlier staff.
Great costumer service great all around!!!
Best selection of coral in the Portland area by far with the best prices on everything. Everything Terry sells is very healthy. He is very knowledgeable and easy to talk to about any issue you may have. A+++
Awesome!!
Best saltwater store in Portland, Oregon by far. Great customer service and do a great job of guiding you towards the right direction. Highly recommend it to other reefers.
Bought a pump. What as great.beautiful place
I have been a customer of Woody's for years and you will not find better customer service ANYWHERE else. They are passionate about the marine ecosystem. To them this is not a passing "hobby" that will be replaced as soon as they get "Finding Dori" out of their system. They are dedicated to the ecosystem. They have a wealth of knowledge and expertise and are very willing to share it with everyone, without carving a hole in their pocket. Back in the day, neighborhood kids used to come to the old location and learn about the saltwater "world." They even had a special tank with a ray and a little shark that used to make the children and their parents "oooh! and ahhh!." It is unfortunate that a few years ago they had to relocate and scale down. Notwithstanding the scale-down to accommodate the business in their home space, their quality has not suffered. It is true that, due to the limited space, they do not have a huge selection on site. However, if you want something that they do not have on hand, just tell them and they will order it for you. Instant gratification is overrated. Believe me, it is worth the wait. Stop by the place and pick their brains for $0 and, if you are smart enough to stick around and check out the place, they have a metric tonne of live rock for amazingly reasonable prices and their livestock selection is not bad. By the way, they offer captive-bred sea horses that will eat frozen foods, so when you bring them home you do not end up with a broken heart watching them starve to death from the comfort of your Lazyboy, and their prices are much more reasonable than those offered online. I love this place, and the people. I actually give them 100 star rating.
Best salt water fish store. Amazing customer service
This is the only place I will ever give my aquarium business to so long as I'm within 50 miles of it. The prices and the selection are good, but the service is outstanding. I feel like I'm visiting with great friends who are helping me out with my aquarium. They are always friendly and welcoming and while many businesses claim to, Woodys actually does treat you like an honored guest in their home.
Best place in town for a reef lover. Great prices, great selection, great customer service.
Very friendly and helpful. Seemed willing to spend lots of time with the customer and answer all types of questions. I would recommend them!
Such a great cottage home for all your reef tank needs.
Great place and Terry is an endless wealth of information; he has the utmost interest in his customer's success and bends over backwards for them. Thank you for being awesome!
Small little shop, but a good amount inside. Was only one tank with seahorses when my wife and I went, which was a little disappointing. That being said, the owner was very friendly, and very knowledgeable.
Very helpful
I'm a total newbie and they broke it down for me the do and don't for what I have to work with right now. Had my inquisitive 5 yr old with me Tuesley very patient. Definitely going back!
