When it comes to fish and chips, seafood and clam chowders I am very picky. I hate doughy fried fish and overfried chips. I think chowders should be creamy with lots of ingredients not just potatoes. At Old Oregon Smoke House I had the best gastronomic experience. Words are never enough to describe my experiences so I will always include photos of my escapades especially when it comes to food. This restaurant is family owned and operated and from sauces to coleslaw everything was homemade. I was having such orgasmic moment just savouring the creamy taste of the large clam chowder, which 4 people can actually share. The fried halibut was lightly battered and melts in your mouth yummy. I look forward to my next trip to Rockaway and you can bet your flippers I will be dining and trying out other specialties at the Old Oregon Smoke House.

It's hard to find places on the Oregon coast that don't make amazing fish and chips or chowder. This place is no exception, the food is terrific. I've been in here a few times over the years and the quality is consistent and considering you're in the middle of a tourism hub the prices are fair (read: steep but not surprisingly so.) My wife always feels the food is a touch greasy, but I think that is her personal preference.

So I was really excited to try this place since we can bring our dogs and are so close the the beach, we brought our own drinks that we had had with us since going to the beach, I order our food go back to our pretty gross picnic table then some extremely rude old guy comes up and yells in front of everyone “ YOU CANT BRING YOUR OWN DRINKS IN HERE!” First of all there is NO sign! And I told him we told the cashier that we had our own drinks, he called her a dumb kid and told us people try and sneak alcohol in, I get it but put a sign up saying no outside drinks! If there is one it’s clearly not visible. We were pretty annoyed the rest of the time, and my “ halibut” ( that was $16.50) was undercooked! and come to find out that hippie old man was an owner, he should treat people with more respect then trying to embarrass them! Never going back!!

Awesome little hole in the wall. The chowder was excellent, the halibut and fries were great, and it's both kid and pet friendly. Also the smoker going at the entrance was a nice addition to the atmosphere. All seating is outside, and there's umbrellas at the tables.

We ate at the Old Oregon Smoke House which sounds like a meat place but we had shrimp, prawns, and a crab sandwich, All of it was good. Looks like the building is going to fall over but the food was good. A can of pop was only $1!

This place was awesome. It had the best seafood I've had in a long time. My wife love the halibut and I had the fried oysters and my daughter had clam strips and mother-in-law had the pork. It is an unassuming place. You just order your food and take a seat on the deck. They have picnic tables with awnings.

The restaurant looks nothing like the pictures we saw online. It's very cramped inside, there's room for one maybe two people at the counter. All the seating is outside (which if you've spent any time at the Oregon coast you'd know that makes it unusable most of the year). The restaurant itself was absolutely filthy, my husband later told me he saw mold on the floor and walls (I wish he'd told me that before I ate the food!). As far as the food, the crab melt was mediocre at best. My husband's halibut was over cooked to the point it was not edible. Needless to say, we won't be returning here.

Everything here is delicious. I loved the shrimp and the fried halibut. They have some of the best clam chowder I've ever heard. You may also get some music from the house right next door. Highly recommended

Awesome little place to eat! My family and I tried it out today, and got an order of clam-strips and crab cake. Everything was AMAZING! The portions are great, and both came with a generous amount of fries. I think the best part, is that the crab cake, was actually a crab cake. Some restaurants tend to cut corners with crab cakes and served mostly meal filler... Not Old Oregon Smoke House, the crab was so delicious, especially with the cashew dipping sauce!

They maybe old but there is no smoke here. I had a "bbq sandwich" which was a hamburger bun with a filling of chopped roast cow mixed into a super sweet commercial sauce. Didn't even come with pickles and onions.

Pretty good! I got the fish sandwich. It comes on a large bun and fits 4 pieces of fish. I ordered fires with it and it was a lot of food. I really like how clean they were. Their appearance comes off as a bit rough but they are constantly picking up teash, recycling, and cleaning tables. Would definetly recommend to travelers in the area.

I had a friend tell us about this place and it's a great value. We had the crab melt which was open faced on crusty French bread, the crab cheese fondue in a bread bowl, and fried prawns. We got out of there quite stuffed and for 40 bucks including tip. Bears multiple repeat visits for sure, and everyone was friendly. The clam chowder we sampled in line was textbook good.

Love stopping here when going through Tillamook or Rockaway Beach! The food is fresh, deliciously smoked or cooked, and people are very friendly. If you eat at one of their tables (outside) even others who eat there are friendly and talkative. I thoroughly enjoy eating here & highly recommend it.

Fast, friendly service. In some other towns a restaurant like this would struggle to get business and distinguish itself from its competition, but there aren't many restaurants in Rockaway and this one is probably the best. Their oyster burger was delicious. I would prefer to see more seafood offerings that are grilled or baked instead of merely fried, but still I can't find a better eatery in town. Avoid the rather disappointing french fries.

I really like fish and chips. Crispy flavorful fish and crispy chips. You won't get that here. The batter was soggy and the fries were worse than Ore-Ida frozen fries. With all of these 5 star reviews I was expecting something special. Especially with their prices. We ordered one code and one halibut and a medium clam chowder. $34.50! This would be what I would expect for a nice sit down meal. Also their home-made sauces were extremely bland. Go somewhere else and enjoy real food.

We found this great opportunity for a meal simply by checking Google reviews, and they were INCREDIBLY busy....YET INCREDIBLY DELICIOUS!!! The Pacific Cod Fish and Chips was absolutely packed with flavor, along with the mouth-watering halibut, both by far the best tasting and the closest to back-home tasting (Alaska 30+ years), we have ever enjoyed! Seating is outdoor, just FYI. Nothing like eating delicious food in the sun! If you hit up Rockaway Beach, don't forget to stop in to the Old Oregon Smoke House.

Paid a visit with some friends over the weekend. Food was amazing, but I want to tell you why I will go here again - A buddy of ours, who wasn't a fan of seafood (and wasn't aware of non seafood items on the menu) just came and chilled with us. The owner lady, when delivering our food to our loud and large party, said to our friend "Nobody goes hungry at my place", and handed him a bowl of clam chowder and didn't ask for a dime from us for it. Even when we said he's not a seafood guy, she insisted we eat the chowder. They have my business forever based on that gesture alone.

My husband and I visit Rockaway beach at least once a year on our anniversary. We always look forward to getting to eat at Old Oregon Smokehouse. It is one of our all time favorite places to eat. Always made to order and fresh, with the biggest dang clam strips I've ever seen and the best clam chowder on the whole coast. You can't go wrong with anything on the menu.

This place is definitely worth a stop for lunch. They have some of the best fish and chips ever. I had the halibut. Their clam chowder has amazing flavor as well. The only complaint I have about the chowder though was there were only 3 small pieces of clam in it. If it's in the name of the soup I would expect more of it in there. Its all outdoor seating and kind of limited but the food makes up for it.

Great place for fish and chips. Better than I expected. They were crispy and not over breaded. I had the cod and loved it. My wife had the chicken tenders. I thought they were good but she didn't like them. I sampled the clam chowder and also liked it. I would certainly go again.

I always stop in this funky little shake at Rockaway Beach for their extra-tasty oyster shooters! Only $1.50 each, they're large oysters with just the right amount of sauce and spicy horseradish. I usually order them three at a time. The seating is all outdoors, but they have a few umbrellas for shade or wet weather. Located right across the street from the train stop, kids play area, and beach access.

Absolutely delicious. I had the crab cake which was pretty awesome and of course the clam chowder. I thought the clam chowder was amazing. It was very rich, buttery, creamy, and perhaps a bit thick but I thought it was the best I ever had. Excellent service as well. We were there in the winter so just got ours to go, but the gentleman was friendly and service was pretty quick for freshly cooked.

Hit or miss with this place. Today, halibut was old, dry + quite thin. Clam strips we're not strips but rather rubbery fried pieces of? Compared to Ecola seafood where halibut fish came so sweet and moist, melting in my mouth. So good I bought fresh fish and smoked king salmon take back to Rockaway. Never again. No wonder the locals do not recommend.

I honestly found this by searching down the 101 highway via Google Maps. Talk about a hidden gem!! It's a little hard to get to but everything about this place is amazing. Solid clam chowder, 10/10 its creamy fulfilling and just plain good for your soul. Their fish n chips are also amazing. Highly recommend

Limited options around here, so we took a shot with this place. We decided to go pick up food and bring it back to the hotel, which worked out well because they only have outdoor seating. Waiting inside was pleasant though - everyone in there was super nice and I went with the BBQ pork sandwich, and it was fantastic. My wife got fish and chips (cod), and that was also delicious.

Best clam chowder I've had. Courteous staff. Crab melt was very salty. Their stinky 100 gallon cooking grease trap bins at the entrance is a total turn off when trying to eat. The surrounding eating area is filthy and gross. Multiple electrical code violations at first glance (external a/c unit condensation was dripping inches away from an electrical box with a missing cover at the entrance). I would not recommend this place to non-locals.
