Wow it is easy to make a great chowder with cream and bacon but to make a delicious manhattan clam chowder that is tomato based and low-fat is superb. That’s what we got and what a treat. First Rate

Love this place! Small but quaint, has outdoor seating. Good selection of seafood.Didn't have a big selection of beers in stock. They do have a few other options for people that don't like to eat fish. Service is good prices are about average to any other seafood restaurant. We will be back again soon.

We vacation here in Yachats every summer and we always come to Luna Sea at least a couple of times. Food is great and so is the service. My favorite is the Tiger Prawns and chips. I'm never disappointed.

More than a 20 minute wait to get a waiter to our table. Several other tables that arrived after we had got there had their orders taken before us. The several staff members floating around avoided our table. Once the waiter finally arrived he was rude and incoherent. He was noticeably upset to be taking our order and snapped at me when I asked a question. Then cut me off mid sentence to ask my partner what he wanted. He literally said “ wuhkeny gehyer”. ??? He then got upset when I had to ask him to repeat himself. I can’t say much for the food because we didn’t wait around to find out. The actual worst service we ever have had.

Great place to eat! I had the salmon fish and chips half size (3 nuggets rather than 6); the salmon was a fresh catch. The fish and chips were both delicious. I got it grilled, so it was basically super fresh and only grilled (not seasoned or anything). The fries were seasoned nicely. My husband got the scumgilion (sp?) and loved it! Fair prices. Lots of people working there helped us. We sat outside out back. I recommend coming here. We didn’t realize it, but there was a guitar and fiddle duo playing in the back inside (separate from the inside front area) Sunday noon when we visited. They sounded great! We would ah e sat inside had we realized.

I usually like this place alot however Oct 5ths visit wasnt the greatest waitress just basicly threw the clam chowder on the table only 2 of us were having it (5 in party) I myself took a taste of it added salt and pepper too it and sent it back to liquid very little taste. Amazing little place! We always stop by on our trips to the coast. Never a disappointment. Seems like their prices went up a bit more, but the food and the service has yet to disappoint in the 3 or 4 times we've gone here. Still a staple for our coastal trips!

9/26/19: Luna Sea Fish House was my favorite place to eat at Yachats, OR. Last Monday I ordered Cod Fish & Chips with a dinner salad to go for $20.75. What I got was no salad, fish was very oily and not completely cooked, fries were not cooked rather raw and damp. I guess they no longer include garlic bread. Looks like they have expanded since we were there last summer. Won't be going back, this experience was really bad!

I was in the little place around the back side. The chowder was thick and creamy, full of crab and very filling. I also love that they were serving a variety of Rogue beers. The live music was delightful and I felt like I was enjoying a living room concert. I'll be back.

We chose to dine at Luna one evening while in Yachats, based on the reviews. We were not disappointed. We walked in for one meal - and came back for an encore, later in the week. From offering up a decent selection of the local brews, to the crab cocktail; their menu offers the perfect way to begin one's meal. Be it the steamer clams, or the Luna combo (featuring albacore, halibut and salmon) with some of the freshest chips we have had; their menu offers a selection of fresh seafood. The service is friendly and efficient, and adds to the general comfortable atmosphere at the restaurant. With three (or was it four?) separate dining areas and including tables set in the driveways, whether one is solo or with a large group; there is ample room to sit down and unwind over a local beer. While they do not have a dessert menu - only the occasional specials - there is a good ice-cream store a few doors down, which offers a decent selection. Be it breakfast - yes, they open at 8:00 am - or any meal thereafter, Luna is a must-visit if one is in the area.

I don’t get all the hype. The food is good don’t get me wrong but the portions are tiny . For example the shrimp cocktail has possibly the smallest shrimp I’ve ever seen. It was a full cup tho so maybe that balances it out? The Luna platter which I’m assuming is their signature dish was 6 Lil pieces of meat and some fries. I left hungry which is kind’ve a bummer but it is what it is would’ve ordered more but the wait times are on the long side on acceptable. For TLDR: it’s good but they are pretty weak on portions . Went here for the first time tonight since I’m staying nearby on vacation. Very nice wait staff! Ordered the fried Cod and Chips. They literally had it ready in 5 minutes. Absolutely amazing! Sooo good! We ate here this evening, they were busy but all the staff was over the top friendly and working really hard. I think our server's name was Deb and she was awesome. The food came out quick, fresh and hot. I got fried halibut and chips and I'm seriously thinking about going back for lunch tomorrow. It's a small place with covered patio seating if you choose. They also have options to take fresh fish to go. I thought their prices were also more than fair.

They make excellent clam chowder and grilled tuna and salmon. Popcorn shrimp were ok. The staff are really nice and engaging. The service is quick while not rushing you. This place has a cozy feel to it and is a good place to eat on a stormy day on the Oregon coast.

Absolutely wonderful service. Was met with how can I help you and can I find you a table by at least 3 employees within the first minute from walking in the door. Our cups were never empty and the food was fantastic even just before closing time. Was able to converse with a couple of employees about the restaurant, their food sourcing and a little about the town of Yachats. They made it a great experience!

The wait staff was friendly, the owner (who also owns a fishing boat and caught the fish we ate) chatted with us. I ordered my salmon grilled, and it was but it came in chunks instead of one piece, and was rather meh. My wife said her fish taco lacked seasoning as well. We stopped in for lunch expecting good things based on the recommendation of a local. I ordered the salmon and was unimpressed. The fish itself was cooked just right! However, flavor was lacking quite severely. Even in the tartar sauce which tasted mainly of mayonnaise and no spices. The service was friendly, and we were checked on quite often. The prices were a tad bit expensive for the lunch menu. We will probably not be eating here again.

The service here is horrible. We got seated immediately, but waited 20 minutes for someone to ask us if we needed anything, and she was the person bussing tables. She said she will grab someone to get our orders, but no one came. After another ten minutes of waiting, we went and asked if someone could take our orders. A waitress came over and got our orders, but had an attitude about it. The food was fine, but definitely didn't make up for the service we received. I almost feel as if they purposely gave us bad service because we requested someone to take our order. After we were all finished eating, we waited another 15 minutes for a ticket. I will not be coming back here, and don't understand how they have so many good reviews. I highly recommend trying a any other restaurant in the area!

EAT HERE. Hands down best ling cod fish and chips I've ever had. Ever. The batter is so light and crispy and the fish just melts in your mouth. Fish tacos were also amazing. Marionberry cobbler was so good. The ladies serving were delightful and the cooks were quick! Come in to buy their fresh seafood from the deli case, sit down and have a meal, or order to go. Fun atmosphere and delicious food make this place a winner every time.

Great place for seafood and kids! We had the whole outdoor covered seating area to ourselves Mothers Day evening. It was nice with energetic children! The place is enclosed on three sides and has a standing fire source in the center. The owner came out and greeted himself. He was very nice. He has been In business for ten years and the place fills up all summer long! We had three fish tacos, Slum. Seafood chowder, shared a beer and a sparkling apple juice and the total was a little over $38. Reasonably priced food. They offer a small selection of beers and wine, no mixed drinks. They have live music on special occasions. They’re making renovations on the outdoor seating and it’s going to be awesome!

I am giving this place a three star because the food was a five star and the service was definitely a ONE star! They were terribly rude to us, forgetting one member of our party, bringing her meal 20 minutes after everyone else, and then snatching it away and taking it to a different customer who came in after us. When they finally brought the final entree, the guy slammed it down on the table with an apology that was the least sincere that I have ever heard. Drinks went without refilling. Finally, when our bills came, the sodas were charged double!

Fish was fresh, but it did not have any flavor. We had the triple dish (fried instead of grilled) made up of tuna, salmon and halibut, and Ling cod fish n chips with a side of 'New England Clam Chowder.' The soup was basically potatoe soup with some clam in it. It had no flavor, it was not creamy, it had no other spices or veggies in it - it was so bland that adding salt and pepper did not help. I did like the fried tuna and cod, although I had to add the lemon juice from the provided wedge and salt, dip it in the tarter sauce and ketchup. The fries had paprika on them and looked amazing, but were soft and flavorless. However, the tarter sauce was amazing! But for the cost ($15 for my fish n chips), not to mention the horrible parking - very few spots in their lot and at a steep angle. I probably won't go back.

After visiting Cape Perpetua, one of the forest service employees recommended this place, so we decided to try it out. Strictly sticking with the food, this place was wonderful. Had some amazing Halibut and chips. Even the coleslaw was great, and it had apples in it. We chose to eat outside in the sun, which was probably a mistake, but didn’t negatively affect the experience. However, the service definitely took away from the experience. Our waiter hardly ever visited us, and we never got our water refilled, even after asking. Luckily, I was able to ignore it, as the food was so good.

It's all about the food in the classic ocean town of Yachats. Ate there 3 times on our weeklong stay. Fried jumbo prawns are to die for. Tacos with either corn or wheat taco shells are consistently yummy. As the day goes on some of the garnishes went missing so go at lunch for the full experience

Yes, you’ll likely have a wait with dinner, and yes it is worth that wait. The owner has been a fisherman for over 40 years, and everything here is fresh and fantastic. The staff will let you know what just came off the boat that day, and each fish option can be done grilled or fried. The beer is the most reasonably priced I’ve seen in a restaurant on the coast (all offerings from Rogue locates in nearby Newport), and they do have wine available as well though can’t say I’ve tried it, I’m a beer gal through and through. The fish tacos are my favorite, though I’ve tried and enjoyed several incarnations of fish and chips here as well. I love the trio of fish in the tacos and the coleslaw on them as well (it has apples in it, and you’ve got to trust me when I say it works). Reminder, it’s likely going to be busy, so if you’re hungry RIGHT NOW grab a cup of chowder or a house salad to enjoy while the rest of your order cooks. Watch the town pass by, chat with locals and tourists alike, and enjoy the hour here. You’ll be glad you took the time.

Best chowder but worst service ever. Had their special chowder bowl which was worth the $15 but our server was terrible- only took our order after asking if we could order, never got water until after the bill came and even then i had to flag down a different server and we never saw our server again after she took our order. Our food came 30 minutes after ordering by a different waiter, who also never came back so we had to go to the counter to pay. Absolutely unacceptable. Wish their service were as good as the chowder.

The clam chowder was perfectly seasoned and the clams were so tender and delicious. The fish tacos were by far the best I've ever had. We wanted to go inside for live music and our waitress was so helpful as she went out of her way to find a table to share with someone who was already inside. This place is fantastic!

This place is a hidden gem! I have never been one to like seafood where I live, but getting it on the coast is a different story. You can usually find some good places that sell the fresh stuff, and this is one of those! This is about as fresh as it gets. You can tell it's fresh because that ultra fishy taste that often turns people off of seafood is not present. The fish is soft and fresh and just delicious. We stop here every time we visit Yachats. It is a must-try! Get the fish and chips here, is is a classic. Cod, halibut, or salmon! Also, bring a jacket because the majority of the seating is often outside. But they do have heat lamps, and tents to block the wind so it's never been a big issue for us.

Sure, like that one guy said you could pay $8 and get a fish basket somewhere else (cheapest I found was in Florence at ICM for $10 though). Though what you won't get for that low price is anything near as fresh, perfectly battered, or consistently cooked as what they serve. I have made trips from Eugene only to eat here, look at the coast, and turn around. Every time it is well worth the trip and the money.

I think this may be the perfect fish and chips. All the fish is wild caught. I ordered the halibut and chips. The waiter said the halibut and salmon were caught this morning. Less than 10 minutes after ordering, the fish and chips were brought out to the table. The fish can be served grilled or fried. I decided to go for the fried. The fish was very delicately battered and served piping hot. It was delicious. It very well may be the best fish and chips I've ever had. I'll come back here the next time I'm in Yachats and if order the exact same thing. It's really that good!

This was great food. It was recommended to us by an older volunteer at Cape Perpetua. The food was cheap and very good, but I have to knock it down a star due to the lack of service. My group had drank all of our waters within 5 minutes and they were never refilled. Would recommend just for the food.

Loved this place. It’s exactly the kind of seafood restaurant experience we were hoping for in a small coastal town, down to the checkered tablecloths. Excellent food and really friendly staff who made us feel welcome and seemed to genuinely enjoy chatting with us tourists. There was a live band playing in the downstairs section that sounded pretty good. Really fun atmosphere. Would definitely go back.

Have to change this 5-star review to a 1-star review. Haven't been in this place for a couple months. Used to have great service, super friendly. Today, went in to pick up fish and chips and got really bad service. This lady really didn't want to help me for some reason. Where's the lady that used to work here, she was great. I really used to like this place. Oh well, there are plenty of other places to get good fish n chips in Yachats.

25 minutes to have our order taken! The server never came back to refill drinks. Portions were 6 small chunks for 18 dollars. Had to ask for our check, too. From the looks of others around us, they were not busy. Food was good, although the burger had an odd seasoning blend that our admittedly picky eater couldn't eat... bummer!

Our fish and chips dinner was excellent! The cod was so fresh, it flaked apart easily, and was so tasty. The coleslaw had bits of apple, and it really enhanced the taste. The french fries were crispy on the outside and tender on the inside. Prices are reasonable and portions are large. The staff is friendly and welcoming. They had smiles for everyone!

Our group of 10 got good service, and most meals were good. However, I have Grilled Halibut and Prawns. Only 2 prawns and a relatively small piece of Halibut for $28. Chowder was good, but growing up in Newport, there is much better. I will give it another try, but next time have the batter dipped and fried Tiger Prawns.

The cod and chips was pretty good (even though the chips were just basic steak fries), but the fish tacos were mediocre and overpriced. Marinated overnight but the texture wasn't great and just had some lacklustre Pico on top.

The main manager served our table while wearing a t-shirt depicting Lucifer with devil's horns. Unprofessional casual attire. The fish tacos were not good, but edible if you're starving. They had chunks of apple in them, and cabbage hanging out of only one side of the taco, while the actual fish part was too dry. Guacamole on top not fresh, from the box or frozen.

The best fish and chips in the whole wide Oregon coast.. also one of the healthiest I have seen.. not a tiny bit of oil and the coating is almost none so you enjoy what you see.. local seafood from Oregon coast as well as a wide variety of others like salmon, halibuts, oyester, clam etc etc.. enjoy an ice cream in the neighborhood after this

No visit to Yachats, Oregon would be complete without lunch, and specifically Slumgullion, at Luna Sea! This is our favorite stop for a small town, fresh seafood lunch whenever we're in town, or sometimes, we make a trip over for lunch and a walk on the beach. The fish and chips and fish tacos are good options as well, but there's something extra special about the thick, cheesy clam chowder-like stew chock full of fresh clams, white cheese and bay shrimp that can't be beaten. One bowl of this with the garlic bread it comes with is more than enough to keep my belly full for hours. And, if you choose not to fill yourself, eat half and take the rest for leftovers!

Had been sampling chowders in the area for days and the Slumgullion (their deluxe chowder) was the best! In fact, all their seafood was exceptionally tasty & fresh. Talked with the owner outside--very friendly!--and understand the fish is fresh off his boat. That said, prices seemed just a tad high for the portion size, pub-style presentation, and hum-drum service, making the overall experience somewhat unremarkable.

Great food and service. We had the Luna se combo a with chips ,The sizes of halibut and albacore were bigger than the salmon , but flavors were great. I think they forgot the bread lol My husband ordered the Slumgullion , it was delicious .

Very good fresh seafood. Only thing is that its fish n chips only. And some American but who goes to the Oregon coast for hamburgers? Grilled or deep fried. Beers are in bottles only, no taps. Tiny place. Would go there for lunch again but probably not dinner.

Serves fresh fish in a simple small town setting. The service is excellent so is the fish. Saturday afternoon at lunch time was crowded. The blue seating room has a nice ambience to it. Don't forget to get haven't cream from the store besides to top off your lunch.

Great seafood!! The Halibut and chips was cooked to perfection. The coleslaw is a little different with apples and vinegar but it’s sooooo good. We had the bay shrimp cocktail again really good the cocktail sauce had the right amount of kick to it. Definitely a must!! We will be back for sure.

Busy place, fantastic food, super friendly service. The place was hopping but not overly loud and just what we needed after a long day on the road. Plenty of seating! If you're visiting the area and are looking for a dinner place, this is a very awesome and deliciously safe bet! You won't be disappointed.

After a full day on the beach, we had some great seafood. They've got a kids menu and the outdoor seating is casual but comfy with patio heaters and some covered areas. The wait staff is very friendly and we had quick service even though the place looked busy. It was a little less expensive than expected given that it's in Yachats.

They offer a $15 cod fish and chips that really isn't worth it. $8 is more accurate for what I was served. The seafood is fresh. The service is friendly. There's nothing good to say otherwise. Better places to eat.
