My girlfriend and I had a terrible day in Portland we stopped by around 5ish . We had a recommendation from my sister to check this place out. The dude who was working was excited about everything in the store and really gave us his time. Really good fish , we bought some of the ahi and it was spectacular smothered on rice covered in sabi and soy sauce. Thanks again random dude definatly wIll return on my next trip through the city . Seriously made me into a flying fish , cheers.

Sort of a mixed bag. They have FABULOUS meat/deli and cheese counter. The Oyster bar is really nice too. A wide variety of ecclectic foods and seasonings. However, I drove there specifically to get fish for sashimi. Website said they have a variety of species in the freezer. When I got there, they didn't have what I was after (Yellow tail). I asked and was told that it was sort of hit-or-miss. So, I found a few other things instead. Parking is limited (about 18-20 spots) and very cramped, so don't come in your Escalade or Truck with the 8' bed.

Anytime we're making sushi at home, this is the only place that we'll buy fish from. Fresh excellent grade fish and shellfish and they do a great job of having a good variety. Helpful staff as well and on the few occasions that they didn't have the exact type of fish we were looking for, they were able to provide helpful suggestions and direct us towards another type.

Use to come in before they moved and loved the experience everytime. Went in today and waited around for around ten minutes and no one came out to the counter. The selection of fresh fish was extremely small and i felt super ignored as a couple employees actually asked me to move out of the way as they carried things to the back. While I love the atmosphere and the quality of the fish I may find another location to buy as I like to get recomendations for fish purchases, the level of service just didn't seem to be the same as i was used to. Dont let me dissuade you from going but I will most likely be looking elsewhere for fresh fish in the short term as they adjust to the move.

Prices are high but not surprising, as everything in this location is. I was hoping for fresh fish, but was disappointed to see that they only had a very small selection of fresh and rest was frozen. Probably won't go back.

I go in about once a week and I love the products here. Everything I've bought has been excellent quality and incredibly tasty. The only issue is the man who is usually in there. I'm not sure whether he is the owner or not but he is always rude, dismissive and makes me want to avoid that place like the plague....but the products are good so I keep coming. It seems like an ongoing joke with anyone in the neighborhood who shops there, we all love it but we cringe when we think about the man behind the counter; I feel like I need to douse myself with holy water before I walk into that joint. Sometimes there is another man working there who is helpful and friendly but I rarely see him.

The man said it, and I didn't believe him. The cashier says "the smoked salmon will be the best you've ever had." Needless to say, I bought it and loved it and the prices are comparable to Safe-way, but the quality supercedes and is in a class of its own.

One of the best things about flying fish co is the honesty the people have here. They have the truck up in Multnomah village that they will bring fish to each day. If they are not able to be competitive with their pricing compared to the Safeway or Fred Meyer or even New Seasons they won't stock that fish. They will let you know what you can get it or they have other fresh caught fish that they are able to be competitive with.

Best fresh mussels I have ever bought. But they are always out of something on my list....bread last time, saffron the time before that, so I always have to go to another store to finish my shopping list for dinner. Kinda annoying.

I was raised in a fishing family on the East Coast. Only had fresh fish from a shop or restaurant two or three times in California over the course of 18 years including all of the best offerings from LA and San Francisco. Started enjoying Sushi again in Oregon. This shop is the real McCoy. So unexpected - I can buy a filet and smell the salt and iodine of the ocean - a lot of this seafood is <24hours from the water.

I considered myself a smoked fish lover. I was looking for a good place to get my smoked fish, when I ran across this gem. The quality of their preparation, and the fish that they smoke has me returning often. Of note besides the smoked salmon, are the sable fish and the albacore tuna. Not always available, but things this good shouldn't necessarily be within grasp at all times. Fresh meat (beef lamb pork), fresh seafood (scallops oysters and fish) there is something here for just about everyone. Combine with the excellent farmers market next door, and I could just get all of my dining needs at this point corner of 23rd & Hawthorne. An absolute must for you to try.

Ate here on a Thursday evening and was sick a few hours later. Just now starting to feel better and it's the following Tuesday. Additionally, the shucker was pretty dang awkward. Maybe he's new. Two stars cause the oysters WERE mostly delicious, and for the variety. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

The tuna poke was pretty good, good sauce although the rice was a bit overcooked. Tried 4 kinds of oysters, listed in order of preference: Kusshi, Kumamoto, Virginica, Shigoku. The dipping sauces were good but unneeded for most of the oysters because they had great flavor by themselves. Very fresh would come back.

Not really a restaurant but rather a market with some great food, wine, beer and a little oyster bar with an excellent selection of fresh oysters. They have tables and a nice outside patio where you can enjoy the oysters and drinks. I visited this place for the first time today and definitely adding it to my favorites. Highly recommend!

Great experience (my first time trying oysters). Staff was helpful and suggested trying a variety. I would have liked to see crab on the menu but understand it's limited to what they have in that day. Venue is great, located in a little market type building, which I enjoyed walking around in and browsing too.

Flying fish has the most ridiculously fabulous quality of meats/seafood ever. Can't be beat. And they're now located in basically the fanciest most carefully curated market I've ever seen...puts Whole Foods to shame. Like the fanciest Parisian market deli produce shop alive. I feel like I'm a movie star here and get very well fed. Ugh so fancy.

Very fresh fish. Bought some salmon and tuna for sushi making. Both sushi grade fish. Called ahead to see what they had available, would recommend to do so as stock changes often. It is inside another market. There is a parking lot. Parking is tight but I was able to find a spot middle of the day during the week.

Extremely fresh fish. And the lamb I cooked up the day of was ultra-delicious. Their cheese selection is solid, and they ran out of regular milk when I was there...no worries, since they offered some great chocolate milk instead! Definitely coming back as often as I can!
