The people really know their stuff and their prices smash on pet smart. Just bought a 20 gallon fresh water tank with a full setup for everything one would need for under 150 and comes with free fish. Tank looks great and I had zero pressure to buy anything in their. I will definitely recommend this place to anyone as well as I will be buying a larger tank sometime in the future. Great selection of fish as well. Owners are who I talked to and this place all in all is 5 stars+!

Was my first visit on recommendation from a friend, the store is stuffy as all fish stores are but didn't stink like normal aquarium stores do. They have salt and fresh water fish and some decorations. My one complaint is I didn't see alot of freshwater plants for sale, granted it could be my lack of eyesight.

Great customer service. Called them first about a question we had and not only did they answer it fully and confidently, but they were very polite and friendly. In person was even better—came out to our car to see what supplies we had already gotten (as we had gotten a used tank and some equipment and such from someone), offered solid advice that was not veiled “buy buy buy” stuff that often happens with retail places. Everyone was positive, willing to help (even with my nervousness and my father’s complete lack of knowledge on anything fish related) and despite being fairly busy took time to work with us. I love everything about this place. It is 100% family owned and operated. My daughter left her Binky there and they picked it up and put it in a bag under the counter for us to pick up next time we were there. They are more than willing to answer any and all questions you have to make sure that you are 100% comfortable with setting up an aquarium. Whether you are a beginner or someone who has been in the hobby for years and years and just needs some refresher information. I highly recommend this place to everyone that is interested in fish and aquariums/ponds. Almost every fish in all of our aquariums have come from the store.

I was a little disappointed because this place had such good reviews, but they didn't have a hugely diverse stock, although they do carry marine species as well as marine invertebrates. They also have aquatic plants that are relatively healthy. They have a large amount of fish, most of which were healthy, but I did notice some incomparable species such as a betta in a goldfish tank for example. Some of the marine species also didn't seem to have any hiding places but that could have been temporary. They also didn't have a large amount of aquariums to choose from.

Despite what one of the previous posters stated I and my son have had nothing but good experiences from Caye's. I've been keeping both fresh and reef tanks for years and in terms of service and knowledge, Caye's can not be beat. As a small shop they have a limited selection of corals at times, but beyond that the place is clean and well maintained with healthy, thriving stock. Caye's is easily one the the best of the small shops in town..

While not as large or well stocked as the wet spot, they do have a great selection of both fresh and salt water fish and aquatic plants. They have also ordered fish for me they didnt have in stock. Best of all they take fish for trade(store credit)

The folks over at Caye's are life savers. Literally! I'm not sure how others out there feel but I have become quite attached to my little aqua bubbas. Every time something odd happens to my tank I go into Caye's and they steer me in the right direction. For those of you that have had a tank long enough you will know what "odd" means. I have been a customer of Caye's for just shy of a year now and have noticed that they are top notch in comparison to other Aquarium Shops out there in Portland. Each person on their staff has been so genuinely friendly and ridiculously knowledgeable. The perfect combination! To top it off their prices are competitive to the big box guys. If you have or are thinking about getting an aquarium and need a local shop, Caye's is your place. Trust it.

Is stuck in the 80's a large selection of brown and green beginner corals.and not much else in the reef dept.decent prices on fish...but mostly common week after week varieties...you would think a aquarium store thats been in bussiness as long as cayes would be Up to date with the hobby...one look at there set up and selection and im back in 1983..

But the thing i dint like was that in the salt water section there seemed to be a 1 dead fish it was lay8ng dont know if it is how that fish acts but thats the main reason i say 4 stars but mostly every other thing was good

I forgot about this store until recently when I had a fish problem (with a new fish from a different local store) and I needed meds that I couldn't find anywhere else. Seriously.. they are SOO helpful. And they didn't charge me for a bunch of meds I didnt need, they just gave me what I needed, so you know they're not just about making money. Their fish are so beautiful and healthy, and most of all.. the best way to judge a good fish store is by their goldfish. This place has beautiful, healthy goldfish. I will be buying goldfish from them in fact, even though I have to drive from N Vancouver.

Excellent communication and very professional staff. They responded to my Facebook messages within minutes and were courteous and kind. Caye's Aquarium was able to help me find the right plants for my aquarium and recommended chemicals for the plants. This was the only place in town willing to help with my cichlid that I couldn't keep. They gladly offered their aquarium to the little guy and will help him find the right home. Their tanks looked healthy, clean, and the fish were gorgeous. They get shipments in every other Monday, and their fish vary in size, color, species, and variety across the aisles. Gorgeous, healthy and fairly-priced plants too. Overall, the business gets five stars for their excellent service and kind and courteous staff. I'll be back!

They were very helpful on my first visit. After scouring the pet store franchises and my local mom and pop pet store it is obvious these folks are head and shoulders above the rest. Also their prices were better. In some cases, way better. I needed some tank mates, driftwood and a live plant for my betta rescue and they set me up very well. I will definitely be returning for more live plants and fish in the near future. Definitely a 5 star establishment.

There isnt a fish store in portland to compare to cayes anymore. I hope they will always be around. You will not find the expert advice and awesome prices you get anywhere else. I have spent tons of time in this store, and i couldnt count how many times i have seen them take the time to help people with selecting and keeping fish. This hobby would not have been so good to me without them. I have recently gotten back into fish keeping, and was so happy to go back and see the same frendly faces. Some of the nicest folk i have met in the hobby. I couldnt say enough good things about these people and their store. Been help make this hobby fun for me for a years! Thank you cayes!

There are fish in there.. Though the tanks showcasing the fish are mostly empty. Disappointing. There should be corals and sand in those tanks to really make them feel lived in and interesting. Their selection of corals is almost non existant. The salt water fish store in Tucson is 100x better.

This is the closest aquarium store to my house but if I had to I'd drive across Portland in rush hour traffic to do my business with them! My wife and I stopped in the first time just to look and ask questions because we were thinking about getting an aquarium. Even on a busy Saturday the staff was extremely pleasant and helpful even knowing we weren't spending any money that day. They took the time to answer all of our newbie questions and made what can seem like a daunting hobby feel accessible. The next day we bought a used tank/set-up and on Monday my wife was back at Caye's for plants and advise. The next day they helped us pick out our first fish and we couldn't be more excited!
