What a great place for delicious, unique food. All of the food choices were unique in that they were not your common burger. Definitely a fun place for lunch and then to walk the little town.
I have always had a wonderful meal here. Fresh, creative, delicious, very enjoyable. Recommend.
Best Beef ever. The sides are amazing. They are unique and flavorful. I will be traveling back to visit again. What drive 68 min for a fine beef dinner. Heck yes!!
Great place with great food
Great food and superb service, as always. A very quiet atmosphere for conducting a business lunch.
Excellent food and service.
Great lunch today, server was very attentive. But not disruptive. Wonderful atmosphere! Aussie burger, gilled cheese and tomato soup were great on a snowy day! Calamari app, is a great mix of flavors worth coming back for.
Always good, time and time again!
Service was good, but the food just wasn't that great. We have eaten here a couple of times and have been less than satisfied both times. The menu doesn't include the little extras one would expect at a classy eatery. Wait staff didn't seem to be familiar with the menu. Once we placed our order it was hard to get the waitresses attention. Sorry to say, but I wouldn't recommend this place.
Great place Best in town to Eat
For Ashtabula it was a little expensive but the food was amazing.
The steak was great. The creme brulee was great. Everything else was fine
Great food and drink.
Awesome restaurant. Eat there multiple times a year between spring and fall. Never had a bad meal there. As the name suggests, they specialize in cooking with meats (they have some alternatives for vegetarians as well). They have a good beer list and make excellent cocktails too. Atmosphere is great! The restaurant is located in an old/former butcher shop. It's decorated as such to show its historical roots. The staff are all really friendly and knowledgeable with their menu and help to decide if you're torn between a few items on the menu or want to know a good suggestion to pair your entree with.
Wonderful experience in Ashtabula Ohio
Terrific food and very affordable! We dined at Rennick with a large group and everything was great. Very cool historic atmosphere!
We had a huge family dinner here and we had all sorts of appetizers and entrees, so we put the kitchen staff through the paces. They where fast, efficient, and so polite. The bacon wrapped dates where amazing. The hamburgers where perfectly prepared, but despite their amazing ingredients lacked a "wow flavor". The schnitzel was AMAZING. The ice cream with carmel and crunch was very good too. The spaghetti and meat balls where a HUGE hit! Overall I give this restaurant and their staff very high praise. I would like to add that the atmosphere was conducive to intimacy and good conversation. Bravo!!!
Close to Fresh swordfish with a garlic sauce spinach in a lemon cream sauce and thin onion rings to die for!!!
I had the cioppino and I was very disappointed! Subpar food. High priced. Bar maid was so nice! Never again!
Everything on the menu is fabulous and the staff is very accommodating. Dinner at Rennick is a must in Ashtabula.
A great place to get a steak! It took longer than I expected for the food to come out, but it was worth the wait! It is a small place, so I would call ahead for reservations. Good drink menu with something for everyone. I'd go back to try other things on the menu.
Great food and even better service!
I can't wait to visit Ashtabula again just so I can eat here. I especially loved the cow wallpaper :) We will be back!
Very good menu, amazing food. Great ambience
My steak was amazing!
We've had great experiences here before. On this trip the chef apparently lost his thermometer or was a bit off and sent us undercooked pork twice; however the waiter was most accommodating. I'm sure it was an anomaly and everything else we had was wonderful.
I was in search of a good meal while in the area on business and found this gem. Hands down top 5 dinners I've ever had. Greeted as soon as I walked in the door and the service did not disappoint. Tayler was my server and she did excellent. I ordered the Ribeye, sauteed green beans and mushrooms. Portions were large and the steak was done to perfection with the perfect char. Fresh roasted coffee from down the street, I could go on and on. Beer and wine list was spot on as well. Do yourself a favor and visit this great restaurant and spoil yourself. I can't wait to return, I've got my eye on the seared duck breast.
Great food, Great Service!!
Short rib hash! Get it, you WILL LOVE IT!
Best porterhouse I've ever had! The unique, rustic atmosphere adds to the experience. It's a bit pricey, but worth it.
Lunch was delicious. Presentation was really nice. Can’t wait to go back for dinner.
The food was glorious in every way. The staff made our brunch so enjoyable. We ordered entrees, sandwiches, and items from the breakfast menu. Quick service and a lovely establishment.
Wow - great service, great food. Bartender was one of the best i've run into - could be Vegas/NYC top shelf bar star for sure. try the deviled eggs, ribeye and fried beets.
The place has some charm to it. An old historic building with a fairly interesting decor. The place seems well maintained and clean. Our first was poor, the swordfish was spoiled. Today’s visit was much better. Just came in for an appetizer and a drink. Good wine offerings.
Great service, thanks Jamie. Food is delicious. Great bourbon selection and cool atmosphere. I mean, they use meat hooks as hat racks here. Can't get cooler than that
A must experience! Fresh, unique and taste bud pleasing. After many visits, each has been more enjoyable. Omelets, steaks, seafood, cocktails and wine list. This place is worth a long trip. In my experience there is nothing comparable in the region. Just go and you will be hooked!
Everything is special, creative, and always delicious !
Was just ok this time. Been there before had a great steak.
Best burgers in the area!
This is a small restaurant in the harbor in Ashtabula. My steak was excellent (best I've had in a very long time). We also had a bottle of wine that was very good. It was a little expensive but very well worth the cost.
this restaurant is very small and you would not expect it to be so fantastic their steaks are out of this world they age them for 30 days a little pricey but well worth it
Every time I visit, I get consistently good food and service. The vegetarian options are very flavorful and worthwhile. Like this cauliflower steak. I also like the side of mushrooms. The many other dishes we have tried are wonderful quality and taste. The vacuum coffee is the best ever, as long as you have the patience to wait for the fascinating process. We have come here just for dessert. Even though their creme brulee is very good we tend to go for the homemade hot fudge sundae! Although if you're ever going to get a banana split, this is the place. An upscale version big enough to share. A good choice for most any diet. We love it.
Ironically veggie friendly and the coolest vibe in town! Well worth a visit for brunch, late lunch or dinner! Friendly owner and staff!
Went here almost 3 years ago and made it back up and I'm editing a previous rating. The food here is outstanding and I was looking forward to returning since we don't get up to this part of Ohio very often. We went in around 5:15p on a Sunday evening with a medium sized party and asked the hostess for seating. She was very rude and off-putting and told us we would have to wait and that they wouldn't be able to seat us until 7:15p. The restaurant was well over half empty and she provided no explanation. I was incredibly disappointed.
We stopped here one whim. It was raining and it was the only place open. It was a small place but it was nice, I believe it use to be a meat market. Really good burgers, I had the lamb burger it was excellent! The fries were good and and so was the service.
Good food nice people
I had a great tomato and grilled cheese crouton soup, and arugala salad here tonight with my parents. The décor was cool. The Rennick Manhattan was delicious. I stole some of my dad's French fries and they were perfect too. I'd definitely go back.
Excellent lunches. A creative Cobb salad with very fresh ingredients.
The food is fantastic every time!
We just happened to be passing through Ashtabula and were hungry. I had the 24 oz aged Porterhouse, my son the bone in ribeye, and wife the mushroom swiss burger. The waitress was amazing. Polite, attentive, and knowledgeable. The food was on par with the service. Just amazing! Possibly the best steak i've ever eaten. We eat out 4-4 times a week and a good part of that is steak. I don't take this review lightly. Just amazing!
Great food and great owners. All the food was delicious. Great new place and will only get better with time! I disagree with below reviews as a personal conflict with a person does not reflect a restaurant as a whole.
Great food. Just tried brunch for the first time. Be safe, make reservations!
The food was lousy and prices high. Will recommend to my friends that they eat elsewhere. The waitress was excellent!
Awesome food
I want to start by saying that pinning your menu to the front of your store for passers-by totally works. It's the only reason we ducked in here in the first place. Once inside, it appeared we were lucky to get a seat on a Saturday late afternoon/evening, so I'd plan on getting a reservation if you can. The service here from Kristi, Jasmine and one other lady was attentive, professional and friendly without being intrusive. All three girls were great. The atmosphere was able to walk a tightrope between relaxed and casual while still feeling like I was going out for a special dinner. Every course of the meal was just perfect. I had the crab rangoon, steak tartare and a flourless chocolate torte for dessert. All were perfectly prepared. The rangoon was crisp on the outside and perfectly balanced by the creamy crab inside. I loved the tableside presentation of the steak tartare which was absolute velvet decadence in the mouth. This is the kind of place you'd expect to find in large cities and it made me so happy to find that Ashtabula has a gem like this. It's an absolute destination spot worth making a drive from out of town. Please go and support this place. One thing I should add, is that we were just looking for a place to duck in for a bite. I've noticed that some of the reviews comment on slow service times. Our entrees did take longer than expected, but not unreasonably long for what one would expect on a special night out for fine dining. Relax, have a second warm up cocktail and enjoy yourself. It's worth the wait.
We went here for brunch and it was amazing! Love the old timey feel and history of the building. Our food was delicious! If it was closer to where we were staying we would've come back for dinner!
Amazing burgers! They took their onion rings off the menu, and the fries aren't as fantastic but they are still good!
Fantastic food and great atmosphere. It's definitely the kind of local cuisine you'd want to support. Brunch especially is wonderful (I highly recommend the crab and eggs benedict) and the dinner food, while pricey, is worth the cost. Probably the best place to get steak in the area, but there are plenty of options.
Excellent food! The best quality in product, preparation, n service! Can't wait for our next visit!
Rennick’s has become our favorite place to go for date night. Steaks are fantastic and the many side options always delicious. We enjoy the cocktails especially their Rennick’s Manhattan. The staff is friendly and experienced and attentive. Always a great meal.
Wonderful food, great drinks. Very pleased this is available in this area where quality isn't always there.
Service is terrible. Great steaks but they almost always over cook them. If you like medium rare, order it rare. Steaks have a char on the outside and are seasoned deliciously. I wouldn't recommend for cocktails as drinks take forever to make and every pour is jigged. For under $40 you get a steak better than you would get at Red, Hyde Park or Urban Farmer in Cleveland AND you get two sides.
Was visiting family here, my sister took me here it was delicious and quite frankly cheap
The atmosphere is great. Upscale yet relaxed. Service was excellent. Food was good. We had the filet mignon, it was cooked to perfection. The special was scallops and they were very good, maybe not the best we've ever had, but good. Overall a great experience, will definitely return.
I would give 5 stars but sometimes service can be a little slow. Other than that, it's wonderful!
The food is always delicious!
Best steaks in the tri-state area!
Excellent dinner!
Great food! It's a must do every time we are in the area
Ordered 2 cheeseburgers and waited 50 minutes for them they were good when we finally got them.
Excellent food and nice staff.
Excellent farm to table food, good bar selection, and friendly service!
Great food probably best in the area
What a wonderful find! Everyone left happy after.having fish and chips and burgers! We will be back!
Amazing food, staff and drinks! We had a great Anniversary dinner here and staff definitely spoiled us knowing we were celebrating!
BEST GOURMET MEALS IMAGINABLE. The beef stroganoff was the best I've ever eaten and presented beautifully. The short ribs were tender and seared to perfection atop a beefy cream sauce with an array of several different types of sliced mushrooms. Nestled underneath were freshly made delectable papperdel noodles that were mouthwatering. Just amazing!! The rustic interior was that of a meat market from the 1800's, boasting beautifully preserved wood and beveled glass that was in very good taste. Beautiful. We won't miss this gem next year while in vacation!
We had a hard time choosing from the brunch menu, but were not disappointed with the Rueben and schnitzel. Great creative cocktails and enjoyed the cocktails.
I always love a Rennick's burger during maple syrup season. There is something about a stopping after a long day of tapping maple trees. I stopped in July just to see if the burgers were as good as I remembered... YES!
Great atmosphere. Top notch food. Tasty cocktails. Overall delightful experience, and will definitely be going back. Must try the smashed potatoes, aged NY strip, and bacon wrapped bleu cheese-filled dates!
Very good food. Rennick's is a local historic place, named after the original meat market in that building. Try the Rennick's burger... It's excellent
Love this location for the best cocktails and apps...friendly, excellent quality and my favorite place within the country....
Great breakfast. The best french toast i have ever had.
Amazing burger and great atmosphere.
AMAZING!
Great place! It's worth the drive.
Wonderful food, wonderful service!
I was pleasantly surprised at my first dining experience here this afternoon. My Mom and I both ordered the cauliflower steak for lunch. We are both vegetarians and were delighted to see such appetizing choices for our lifestyle. The purée, the cauliflower steak, and the topping of olives and capers were delicious. I will return for the other vegetarian options that I didn’t pick today. Well done!
Excellent meal....everything was outstanding. We had an excellent waitress! We will be back.
Food was excellent!!! Service was fast, friendly, and really made us feel comfortable asking questions. Decore was simple and quirky..loved the cow wallpaper. Definately recommended to anyone looking for a great steak dinner. I had the filet. Delicious!!!
Food was prepared perfectly and friendly servers
They know how to treat vegetables with respect. Love their bean burger and their veggie sides. Best Bloody Mary in town, and they serve brunch daily. They have ambitious dishes which for the most part succeed, and I laud them for trying. Lamb shank the other day was so good.
Food is fabulous!
This is where I go when I want to delight in the meal set before me. Never disappointed.
I have been here twice now. It is my absolute favorite place to eat!! Great food and service!!
Lunch was perfect. Shavon, our waitress was awesome, so friendly. A very relaxing place.
Phenomenal!! Love the setting and the menu. Staff was amazing and very friendly.
Amazing food. Perfect solo or with company. Service was perfect and our waitress Jill was an absolute professional and charming. We want the staff to do our wedding.
Have eaten here several times and have always enjoyed the food. It is located in the quaint Ashtabula Harbor.
Two experiences with this restaurant - first time we went it was closed during the kate afternoon during posted hours to be open. No notice on the door as to a reason. The second time we also went in late afternoon and were seated quickly, then left with the menu, which is tiny print in lots of white space, and minimal descriptions. Ordered, and had the same experience as another reviewer in that the lamb burger was massively over-spiced to the point of being nearly inedible. There being few, if any soft surfaces in the rooms, the acoustics are harsh and amplify any background chatter or clatter. Lots of aspects in this place need rethinking.
One of my favorite restaurants in Ashtabula because of its eclectic menu and pairings of foods.
Great food and amazing service and atmosphere
Excellent food, priced accordingly. Nice atmosphere(1900 meat market) great staff.
Great food. Good people.
Amazing dinner, everything was great. Great service, nice atmosphere and amazing food!!
Very good food!
Me and my husband went eat there tonight. Ordered filet mignon cooked medium.... had to send it back. When I got it back it was charade on the outside and still raw in the middle. Should have ate a burger. Plus both steaks were salty. And the table on the side had to send their steaks back to be cooked more also.
Well worth the hour plus drive for me. Everything has always been great. Staff has always been kind and helpful
Great meal every time. They have a rabbit dish that is amazing. The cheese board is fantastic as well. Very nice to see a place like this rejuvenate the Ashtabula harbor area. Many other outstanding restaurants have opened in the area but this is still my absolute favorite. The menu changes a little seasonally but it always seems to have something wonderful to try.
The food and service are always top notch!
The pickles and the food were delicious. Low key but the food was very impressive.
All the food is fabulous. Surprisingly vegan friendly. The staff is helpful and competent. Best dining experience I've had in NE Ohio.
Absolutely fantastic! We’ll definitely be back. This was the best meal our family has had at a restaurant in a very long time. The staff was great and the chef/owner was also very accommodating. Unfortunately, they where out of two of the dishes that I chose. My wife had the Swordfish, my son had a burger, father in law had eggs Benedict, mother in law had the Cuban and I settled on a steak. Homemade tomato soup with grilled cheese croutons was excellent as was everything else. Thanks again Kyle and Alex, we’ll be back soon for sure.
Amazing best steak Iv ever had, cute vibe inside , waitress was adorable couldn't help but love her
Dined at the Rennick Meat Market down in the harbor today for the first time. Absolutely fabulous, perfectly seasoned, tender steaks. The Brussels sprouts and wild mushrooms were creatively seasoned and very delicious. Great service too. We will definitely be coming back.
What a terrific surprise and great addition to the Harbor. Wonderful offerings w lots of variety and attention to detail. Craft beers, and even vegetarian items. Beautifully restored room!
I had the absolute pleasure of having dinner at Rennick's on Sept. 21, 2019. There are five reasons I gave it five stars; the staff, the menu, the food, the cocktail selection and the atmosphere. It's about an hour drive from home, but so worth the ride. What a cool town it's in, and if you time your dinner just right, afterwards, you can take a short drive to Walnut Beach and watch an amazing sunset.
Me and my wife went there a few weeks ago and we loved it. It was nice decor but not over the top but also not shabby. The food was good, my wife had duck and I had steak, I would argue one of the best steaks I every had in Ohio. Once again really great food!!!
Have some nice meat
Awesome little place!
Rennick had been on my radar for well over a year, and I was finally able to go last night. Sad to say, it was not worth the trip. Upon being seated, I have to admit that I was pretty excited. The atmosphere is charming and pays homage to the building's origins as a butcher shop; the menu is killer, too. I figured that with an empty bar and a half-full dining room, service would be top-flight. Unfortunately, the bartender decided that a 10+ minute conversation with one of the dining room customers was more important than, y'know, tending bar. I'd have thought that by the time our server RE-filled our waters and noticed the cocktails weren't ready, she'd have talked to the bartender and expedited the drink orders. Alas, she just topped us off and walked away. It took 27 minutes to receive our first cocktails from the time we walked through the door, with a scant apology that the bartender had "lost our ticket". Also - not sure if the bartender was new, but she was almost comically focused on the jigger. (NOTE: fellow reviewer Lucas McDaniel also expressed a similar sentiment, "drinks take forever to make and every pour is jigged." --- Rennick, are you listening) Our crispy calamari appetizer arrived and was delicious; one of the best things that arrived on the table that night. Our side orders of haluski were, without a doubt, the best thing to appear on our table - excellent texture and seasoning. I remember thinking that Sokolowski's really oughta lean this way with THEIR recipe. Then again, the extra side order of broccoli ended up costing a buck a piece ($5), and it wasn't much better than whatever I'd whip up at home. What should have been a hallmark of this restaurant - the meat entrees - ended up being simply adequate. The veal T-bone (ordered medium) was medium-rare on one end and medium-well on the other. The seared duck breast was decent, but that's about all we could really say about it - nothing remarkable whatsoever. During our meal, I decided to give the bartender another chance at making me a whiskey & ginger ale, only to watch her make a mixed cocktail of unknown origin. Yet another delay on what was actually a simple drink order. Thankfully, our server at least identified the glitch promptly and I got my second drink 20 minutes faster this time. Still...with only two ingredients in the drink, shouldn't take 7 minutes to get to me when the restaurant is near empty. We did have one bit of incredibly prompt service - when it was time to bring us our check.
Good cocktails, great food
Great stuff
Amazing food. High quality. Highly recommend
Great food choices, unique menu, great friendly service.......
Great food, great service!
Love this place so much! Great food, great wine selection and amazing atmosphere.
Amazing french toast, attractive please
Love this place. Great burgers, breat drinks, etc. Everything i have had has been awsome. Love atmosphere and service quite pleasant. A hidden gem
Well prepared upscale cuisine and cocktails in a casual setting.
Love, love, love this place. Never a bad experience and always the best food.
Fair priced. Very good food. Very good service.
The Rabbit Pasta I had was one of the best meals i've ever had in my life.
Great food!
Great burgers! Went today with family from TX. What a terrific town!
Cool place, neat history, good food, good people.
Food was great! Staff was very attentive and personable! First time there and will return!
Great service, wonderful food.
Lovely lol spot. Food was top notch as well. Staff were very informative and atentative. Great place yall!
Slow, hot in restaurant, sat us in back corner , could not cook a burger right (burnt on outside and real pink inside!) Hostess was a bummer but our server was nice and did try to rectify the situation. Ended up just eating my fries. Heard this place was good , came out from Madison. Really disappointed :(
Fantastic! Great variety to the menu. Well crafted and presented. Something for the wine, cocktail and beer enthusiast too. Stumbled upon it, but now even detour off I-90 for brunch on our way east or west. We've visited three times now and it has always been consistent. We brought friends and they loved it too. Open year round. Incredible Egg's Benedict selection.
The Rennick burger was delicious as well as the mac n cheese. My family was highly impressed with the food here.
Small portions for the $$ and slow service. Atmosphere is unique and vintage.
Atmosphere is great as it used to be an old butcher shop. The menu changes frequently and they have great steaks and burgers. Would recommend to anyone in the area who wants a great meal
Food and atmosphere is amazing! The quality of food is equivalent to a night out in downtown Cleveland or Pittsburgh at a fraction of the cost. Great people and awesome venue. Brunch, lunch, and dinner!
My daughter decided she wanted steak here in this great restored building on Bridge Street in Ashtabula. The waitress took a lot of time explaining to us the history of this one time butcher shop, which was great. Even better was the steak. We didn’t get the top tier pricier cuts, but the meat we did get was nonetheless cooked perfectly and was mouth wateringly tender. The sauces were a great addition, even though not required to enjoy the meal. The sides were fantastic as well. The one recommendation (made to our waitress) was that the Blue cheese butter sauce was a little too salty and not blue cheesey enough, but I’m really splitting hairs here. Great beer selection as well. My daughter told me if they relocated this restaurant to Virginia, she’d want to eat there every day!
This is my favorite meal of the year. We plan our lake trips around eating at Rennick. Best steaks in the entire state, amazing bar, and cool atmosphere. Could not recommend any higher, but you MUST make a reservation.
My husband and I really enjoyed this restaurant. We had our meal at the bar and loved it all - the food, the service and the atmosphere were all great. Looking forward to going back.
I only give it 4 stars because of the dessert. But the savory food was to die for! I got rainbow trout and it was perfect. My husband's Brazilian steak was a bit salty but still great. The creme brulee was insanely overcooked but hey it isn't Paris, so they are forgiven. I'd definitely go there again. Also the mixed drinks were incredible!
