I've had a 36 gallon fish tank for over three years with no problems. My water was tested and came out as good. I stop in at Tropical Shoppe and an found an eel. I purchased it and by the next morning it was floating upside down. I pulled it out and put it in garage to keep it cold. This was over the holidays and I didn't get it back for a couple days. I took it back to Tropical Shoppe and they exchanged it for another one. I purchased no other fish before or after I took the dead one in. I started to see fungus and fin rot. It appeared as cotton wool disease. I started treatment immediately. I had two large, beautiful angel fish, shark, glo fish, catfish and others. Every day I would go down stairs, I would find one or two more dead fish. I lost over $200 in fish and decor. I took all the dead fish into Tropical Shoppe. The owners were not in. I was told they would call me the next day. I received no call. I went back in and heard every excuse he could come up with. An example was that I got the fungus from fish holding bags or the counters. Their store was the only one I had been in. They Did Not offer to help. He just said he couldn't afford it. So I guess a women on limited income can? I will never purchase another fish from them. How can I trust them? They do not stand behind their products or care about their customers.

1.5 stars really. They were helpful and encouraging when I was buying fish, but, when the fish died of parasites in under a week they offered no support (information/suggestions, replacement, a call back. I like to shop at locally owned stores, but I will be going to Petco from here on regarding my fish needs.

EXCELLENT! Only place in town to get real expertise advice on your aquatic animals. This mom & pop shop will hold your hand through some tough water parameter waves. I highly suggest them as I frequent the shop just to see what Today's Special may be.

2/3 of the staff I have run in to are friendly. I have noticed that they never get in the way of a sale though. I took to the liking of a freshwater shark they had in there once, and asked if he would work in my communal tank, describing all the fish I had...of course the answer was "yes, that fish would work great in your tank..." no pros or cons provided of what could happen. Fortunately in our day and age, I can hop on google, which is what I did. Google did not seem to agree that the fish would work in my tank, so I did not buy it. I shopped at this place numerous times, despite this. Figured I'd give a local business my money, rather than PetCo. First experience here buying fish...bought 12 neon tetras. Had no problem with the at all. Fantastic. And their price was about 50 cents cheaper than the other stores, so that's about a $6 save...pretty happy with those healthy fish, and the money save...bought a couple plants as well that thrived. Next time, bought two Yin-Yang guppies. One died within a week after I got it. Figured it was either bad luck, or my fault for not having appropriate tank conditions... Later bought a glo-fish and Pictus catfish...When I asked about the Pictus, this was the second time I realized they would just say anything to sell their fish. I asked if it would work with my 50 gallon set up, and described the fish I had in it..."oh, of course it will fit in just fine!" This time I made the mistake of trusting them, and not researching...Pictus like partners, and 55 gallons is supposedly the bare minimum to hold one of them....while on this visit, I also noticed another tank that I did not buy from had a dead fish in it. I did not say anything about it, but wish I would have...this was the most recent encounter I had with them, and it will be the last. Not just because they clearly don't inform you about the pro's and con's of the fish you will be adding to your tank, but also because about two weeks later after buying these two fish, I had a major outbreak of ICH in my 50 gallon tank that had been thriving for about 3 years since I set it up...Most signs point to one, or both of these fish I bought bringing it in.

The Tropical Shoppe has great variety of freshwater shrimps. Cherry Red and Blue Dream shrimps and other Neocaridinae are almost anyways available, as well as amano shrimps. Sometimes crayfish are available, usually wild type, but occasionally electric blue crayfish. You nearly always get what you seek, and sometimes find a gem of a new aquarium denizen.
