Oh wow ~ cannot wait to visit my son again, who just moved to Chelsea. This little gem is AMAZING! Just like something I'd find in my backyard of Downtown St. Pete, FL! I imagine I'll be going back often, as there was so much on the menu I'd love to try. The baked Mac & cheese I had was terrific, and the staff very helpful and courteous! Great job to everyone who works there!!! The only reason I didn't give them 5⭐'s, it because it was a tad toasty and humid inside, and our fries weren't nearly as crispy as we had requested they be.
Casual place with great food at a great price. Staff super nice
Great place for a tasty breakfast
Loved the atmosphere, the Baja Fish tacos were amazing and the service was more than I could have asked for
My go-to place for brunch in NYC when I visit. Good vibe from the Chelsea neighborhood and you can have good food there as well. This time, I opted for a breakfast quesadilla with sausage and mimosa + coffee. It does get very busy (I was there on a Saturday morning) pretty quickly, so if you'd like to sit there and enjoy, I'd recommend getting there pretty soon after opening.
Walnut bread was really delixious, but just a tad bit stale. Outdoor seating was nice but the street was a bit dirty. No complaints about the tuna melt.
Alright food and service
I like this place and have been back a bunch. Cool spot. Recommend it.
A great place to meet people for a reasonably priced meal. I’ve eaten breakfast/lunch & dinner and highly suggest it for any of those. They do a great brunch - plenty of food & good prices
I was so happy to find gluten free food here!
Great burger and service
Custom omelette is always a classic. And blueberry mascarpone toast is absolutely delicious!
Cute little restaurant, great for a quick bite or to chill with friends. Wonderful gluten free options and a knowledgeable staff! Would definitely make a second trip.
Good place to meet and have drinks with friends during happy hour. You basically go to the counter to order, and they will bring you whatever you ordered. Different set up. Warm, friendly, informal ambiance. It's not really a bar. More like a stylized deli (of course, it's not a deli, ok?!).
This is a nice neighborhood coffee house. The menu was apparently based on Zingerman's deli in Ann Arbor and you can feel it. I stopped in and grabbed a peanut butter cookie and a coffee. All pretty delicious.
Gluten free breakfast options available with great awareness of cross-contamination risks.
Pretty nice place, good food, good service, I recommend it
Great place for a meal or a drink. Passed it on a Tuesday night, and was tempted to go in for a drink. Had breakfast there the following morning. Wonderful staff, great atmosphere and a delightful meal. I will be going back :)
I took a team from work and we all got great meals for a reasonable price. I think we ordered everything on the menu and everyone was happy with the outcome.
The "local" omelette was excellent and more than enough to fill a grown man. I wish they'd asked or let me know there were onions mixed in the hash browns. Allergy. The setup is cool where you just order and pay at counter right away, grab your own water and utensils, and seat yourself. Unfortunately about half of their forks still had food in them. Just make sure to inspect.
Liked that place def, would come back
Comfortable, spacious, great vibe, great food, nice staff, great music, affordable.
Very nice place to sit with some friends, the food is ok but nothing special
I loved the environment and the food. I came here with a friend and the space was just perfect for talking. I felt really good energy from the smiling workers aswell. I want to bring all of my friends here.
Cozy joint with great food and drinks. Fun vibes and not too crowded or rowdy. Love that you can order your food and drinks upfront at the counter, pay for it, and sit wherever you want. That way there's no hassle with the bill, especially with big groups.
Great food selection and nice vibes. Feels like a upscale coffee shop with a hint of alcohol.
We came here for brunch, short line so not too bad. I had french toast (pic) with eggs over medium. It was good and the coffee was good too- free refills! The GF had her eggs come out way over done, she wanted runny eggs and they were rock hard. We asked to have them redone and the server said no problem, but never brought them out. I traded one of mine for one of hers so she could have a decent meal. Kinda sucks... She is not into returning- Seating is firm, no cushions or pillows, so if you have back issues BYO cushion. No Sweet-n-Low.
Food was great but service was a bit slow on a busy weekend. Waited over 20 min for breakfast. Needed silverware which took more time. Otherwise a great neighborhood restaurant.
I feel like the staff is getting better and better doong what they love to do!
Simple american breakfast food but the execution was great, very tasty. Service is exceptionally friendly for us out of towners. Salad was a bit heavy on the dressing but I'm sure we could ask to be on the side next time.
Delicious food and lovely staff! Lots of healthy options for a reasonable price. A favorite spot for lunch.
Welcoming service, vibrant atmosphere and tasty food.
Fabulous and fresh food all day long! The perfect place to enjoy healthy food with good friends! Friendly staff and nice ambience!
Grey dog was a staple for me when I worked nearby. Great chicken meatball soup and salads, but I think my favorite is their breakfast. The breakfast potatoes are crispy fried and are made of all that is good in life. Just get something with those potatoes as a side. They also have happy hour, yay, and fun seasonal drinks like frozen rose in the summer. The one area that falls short for me is the dessert...
Eggs were cooked to hot so they were crusty. Coffee was not hot enough. Toast wasn’t warm enough to melt the butter. Hash was deep fried potatoes with raw scallions. Very bummed out. based on reviews, I was expecting a good breakfast. Mcd would have been better.
Love this place! Very low key. Excellent food. Lots of seating. Casual dining. Comfort food. The bacon & guacamole grilled cheese is so great!
Really good food. You order and they bring it to you.
My local eatery with such friendly staff, good food and a chill attitude. Go, enjoy!
Nice restaurant. Good food and nice staff. Excellent place to meet friends. Limited seating outside. Only complaint is that patrons occasionally smoke in outdoor seating or very close to windows and doors, which can permeate throughout the space.
A busy spot but they have a system that makes it not so bad, plus the food is worth the wait. The hazelnut coffee was one of the best I had my entire time in New York. I had a tuna steak salad that was yummy but could have done with a bit less oil in the dressing (but still, I ate every bite.) Their fries are exceptionallyseasoned. The fish tacos were dripping with flavor in that beer batter. The only thing that bummed me out was I wanted more of that coffee (it came with free refills) but didnt want to get back into the long line to grab it and didnt know where to get it from a waiter since they dont really have waiters there. So know everything you want once you go up to order!!
breakfast is never consistently good ask for eggs medium, and they're completely solid ask for eggs over easy, and whites aren't even cooked
Good food, friendly staff and easy seating. I didn't have to wait long for food and the prices are so reasonable. I would definitely recommend The Grey Dog for a quick bite.
Love love love grey dog. The gluten free Zucchini bread is incredible, I recommend it even to people that like gluten. A mixture of locals and tourists alike, it's cameo in Broad City is what lured me. Despite it being very popular, the service is amazing. Its busy but there's enough seats that its not too hard to get a table for some prime people watching. We had a small hiccup but it was quickly fixed which only makes me want to go back. I like it so much I'd be one of those people that would buy the logo shirt if they sold them.
Excellent find. Within walking distance from where we were staying, but even if not, it would have been worth the trip. Got the breakfast tacos and wow. Delicious coffee, lots of non-dairy creamer options. Helpful staff and very hipster (not annoyingly so) vibe in the place. Lots of seating. Cool decor. Fun music. Definitely recommend.
Food is good, but the coffee (drip coffee, haven't tried espresso here) is pretty mediocre/bad. I hope they improve their coffee sourcing soon because otherwise it's a fantastic spot.
I love the sandwitches here. Good eatery
Good food in a chill and relaxed atmosphere
Cute little coffee shop-bar. Nice atmosphere. Pleasant friendly staff. Place is LGBT friendly
Love this local spot, which also has 3 other locations in lower Manhattan. Friendly staff, affordable. Serves beer and wine only!
Great ambiance that is supported by the drinks and food!
Super cozy and cute! Food was good, coffee was great, and staff were super nice.
Great food! Good service! My favorite place to eat in NY
So much fun!
Always lots of room and very friendly staff
loved the server ELLEN she went above and beyond to grab me a drink I was satisfied with when they didn’t have coke or pineapple juice. So sweet. Highly recommend this place. The food is lovely and the ambience is cute and funky!
I love this place so much! The atmosphere is super cute and the people are polite and helpful. The food is good too. I highly recommend!
Love this place for the atmosphere but the food is not that good
Nice place to spend the evening
I love the Grey Dog in the West Village so I tried the Chelsea spot. The menu seemed a bit smaller based on what was and was not available, but the vibe was actually even more fun. Plus, the staff seemed like they were genuinely enjoying themselves. Grey Dog Chelsea did not disappoint!
Food was great and loved the ambiance
LOVE THIS PLACE
Such a fun, cozy spot! My friends and I had such a good time here. The service was great. The food was good. The atmosphere and music are so fun. You order at the counter and then sit and wait for your food. There is a server that comes around periodically to check on the table and gets you anything you may need.
Place is cute and food is delicious. I really enjoy their pancakes and coffee on a cold morning. If they fix wobbly tables, they deserve 5 stars :) Staff is nice and prices are reasonable.
Lovely staff, breakfast (almost) all day.
A secret cove of comfort. Atmosphere is welcoming. Food was good.
Amazing tacos, a little too loud for my European taste
Great good, even better atmosphere! Friendly staff was the cherry on top.
Great food + great atmosphere = great restaurant!
Very loud if you want to converse with someone there for lunch and want alone time then it's not the place to be.... service was a little slow they need more training in my opinion!!!!
Enjoyed the decor, food selections and quality of food. Quaintly rustic.
Line gets long at busy times but the food is worth it.
Was staying at a friend's place a minute away and that was super fortunate. Excellent little place to kick off the day, large portions, good drinks, happy soul. The salads were great, loved the granola, as well as the veggie burger :) Lovely lovely
Great place for a quick meal! You order first then the host helps you find a table, the system is very organized! They have both healthy and craveable options, I usually love coming here for brunch, also a great spot for happy hour they have beer and wine. They also have take-out!
Fast moving line, they give you a table at the time that your ordering. Good food! Good Coffee!
Just LOVE everything about this place. Service unmatched, breakfast food and variety of coffees delicious. Ambience is cozy and warm.
Great place for lunch or bfast. Really friendly staff. Great food. Fresh local ingredients. A little bit pricey but I don't blame them with how high quality the ingredients are. I'll keep coming back.
1st place we ate in New York City and it was amazing. We had breakfast and I was half expecting it to be loaded with grease but it was cooked really well. You must have the French toast....it's well known for it!
The Grey Dog is simply one of the best small chain establishments in NYC. If you see one, try it. I know you'll love them!
This place is great! Food was great, great music, great service, great atmosphere, great energy. Just GREAT.
THE BEST of THE BEST. Incredible. Food is excellent, service is also excellent, very nice atmosphere. Highly recommended
We visited at what appeared to be the peak of the lunch at 145p on a Saturday. And we got lost in the rush. One dish came out in about 30 minutes. One came out wrong and we sent it back. The correct one was delivered a few minutes later. Our two other entrees came 10-15 minutes later. Really? The only good news is that the youngest person in our party was served first. Mac and cheese was delicious. Grilled cheese was good. Turkey sandwich (one of the forgotten dishes) was not as described and looked to be tossed together. Fries were hot and cold, literally. I know people that like this place and have good meals. My experience was far from that.
Great veggie options. Had their avocado toast. Was wonderful. Would recommend and will go again.
Great people and food. Fast service!!
Great little spot in Chelsea Super friendly staff, competently prepared food served quickly. Really pleasant space and seating options. My breakfast group of four loved our plates and caffeinated beverages.
Specializing in hefty, casual lunches and dinners, the Grey Dog is a wonderfully charming place to eat and relax. Red walled and cozy, it's an excellent place for a beer after work or a slice of gluten free cake. This is the largest of the Grey Dog's locations in the city. Be sure to visit if you're a University of Michigan alum.
Great breakfast. The lines are always so long though and once you order, that's all the service really. Hard when it's packed. This means it can be hard to eat alone there. Some people try to work there but it's a laptop free place so beware. Generally good quality food but sometimes I leave there feeling a bit rough.
Great informal brunch spot on a sun afternoon
Can you play some head good tacos can't go wrong.
Always delish, quick, and the menu is never boring!
The food and service here was great
Relatively inexpensive dinner option in Chelsea. The bacon guacamole grilled cheese was pretty good. Happy hour till 7.
I’ve been going here for Sunday brunches with my friends for years, but today was by far the worse experience that I ever had there. The food was good as always, but service wasn’t...they never have enough ketchup bottles so my friend went over to the front to ask for ketchup packets and was told no and to wait for the ketchup bottle...ok so 20 minutes later they finally bring it to us and as soon we got it, they kept coming back to our table to ask if we were using it...it got to the point we just told them to take it...when I asked the waiter why they can’t just get enough ketchup for each table, his answer was “We can’t get 20 bottles.” Then it got worse they kept coming over and asking if we were done with our food...I was in the middle of eating and they wanted to take my plate...I paid $20 for a meal to be harressed to the point that I just left. I’m never coming back here again! Horrible services!
Very cozy, good food. Only complaint is that they're a little stingy with the coffee. The coffee was good though.
Foods great! friendly staff , very cool atmosphere. Worth the visit
Yummy food, fun environment, friendly staff.
My go to casual breakfast spot. So friendly and laid back!
Food was ordinary, atmosphere interesting, service OK.
Great atmosphere, friendly & knowledgeable staff, vegan options, and very reasonably priced. Their veggie burger is a new fave! ❤
Wanted to like this place. The food was average maybe below average, large portions with the intention that quantity will compensate for quality. The sandwiches were flavorsless and really disappointing the steak and egg was so bland it was shocking, hard to mess up stale if you ask me. Same goes for the grilled chicken pesto mozzarella sandwich. Fries were good. Service was good.
The best American breakfast in nyc
This place gets by just barely satisfying a man who is well over done for dinner. I got the burger, which I enjoyed, but which was none-the-less a sub par burger. The staff is friendly enough and the prices are expected. The atmosphere is kind of cute, but the music is just a bit too loud (I must sound so old, but I'm really not). I probably won't be stopping here again, despite a particularly enticing breakfast menu. As far as I can tell, the only thing it really has going for it is a bunch of empty tables at 9pm on a Sunday night. Stop here if your desperate for some adequate (but by no means exceptional) food to keep you going.
Love this place! The food is is always good and fast to come out. Just never sure how much to tip since its not table service but they bring the food to you?
So good!! Very cute spot
This place is pretty OP but comes with a great aesthetic and even better service. You can see the workers are eager to serve and keep the place clean. If you've got $20-30 this is a great stop. Free coffee refills btw!
Nice atmosphere great service staff are welcoming. You must go here even of just for a coffee
The Grey Dog was one of my greatest finds while traversing through the streets of New York City. The decor was on point and had a cozy feel to it. Soon after walking in, a waiter greeted us and explained to us how the place worked since we mentioned that we were newcomers. It's a counter ordering type of restaurant and the water/condiments area was self serve. You can sit wherever and then go up to the counter to order food/drinks. The food will be brought out to you when its ready. I ordered the grilled chicken pressed sandwich and it was delicious. The sourdough bread was soft and perfectly crunchy. The sweet potato fries were
Cute spot! Real diner looking. Kinda warm. Fast service. I had the teryaki burger and it was bomb. Real juicy. My buddy got the Vegetarian burger and he said it was good. Fries were hit and tastee. I'd come back forsure.
Great place to have dinner. There a few locations around the island but this one is by far the best. The atmosphere and the food is something that will keep me coming back.
Nice cafe. Lines can get long, but menu is worth it.
Good coffee, good snacks. The peanut butter tahini cookie was great!
Great place, the food is excellent. If go there try the hamburger is really good, the staff is terrific
Great combination coffee/tea place that also has a full drink and food menu. Several basic items like fries and burgers were solid. Decor is plain but service is with a smile.
Awesome atmosphere and yummy food!
The food is delicious and at a good price. It is my favorite place to have a good coffee and study or read a book. It's also good for a beer with friends. The attention is very good and organized. Coffee refill is free.
Great for groups, dates, drinks, laptop working, friends, snacks, and just relaxing. Friendly service, great food with nice variety and decent prices. Healthy and good portion sizes. Try the mac and cheese and burgers. Zucchini noodles with pesto and tofu is really good for a light meal. Sweet potato fries are firm, soft and crunchy at the same time.
Oh man the food here was so good. I had the nachos and my friend had the Turkey BLT. The nachos were homemade and they were loaded. Waaaay too much food for lunch. The Turkey BLT was huge too, and the turkey was an actual cut of turkey breast and not deli cold cuts. We will definitely be eating here again.
Busy and lively however somehow not hectic. I find this restaurant one of the most reliable good experiences in NYC. The menu somehow nails the healthy-comfort-food category with every dish. I had the poached egg and avocado salad and the salmon and greens were fresh and delicious. It was one of those things one would never make at home because just too many small amounts of ingredients one would later have to figure out how to use up...no leftover stress when the Grey Dog takes charge. My daughter is a lacto-ovo veg and loved the breakfast tacos, she took the option of having hash browns which she said were crisp and tasty. And we both had great iced drinks. Iced chai reminded me of my first taste of chai about 20 years ago. Very pleasant breakfast, and always highly recommend.
Awesome atmosphere and the food was great!!
Cozy coffee shop with wood everywhere. They serve lunch and cake stuff. Table service after you order at the counter. I did work on my computer for an hour. They had good wifi.
Love the food and the drinks. Super friendly staff
Visited on Sunday for brunch. We waited in line first to order our food and drinks. Then the server found a table for us and delivered the food to our table. It was definitely busy but the wait wasn't too long. It was a little bit annoying because they kept shouting out people's name for food and it was a bit too loud to hear them while we were sitting at the table. The decorations inside was very cute and felt cozy. The food was good as well. The cucumbers inside the avocado sandwich made it feel refreshing despite the heavy cheese and avocado. The portions were really big as well.
Funky place for coffee and a snack
Really interesting, eclectic, and great food
I had been to Grey Dog on University Pl. a few times, and didnt know about this one just a few blocks away. Its a bit bigger and feels like more a restaurant than a cafe like the other one.. Brunch Food was very good and the prices were cheap for the portion size! I was very pleased with my meal, BUT this 5 star review is dedicated to the staff! Everyone I interacted with was so personable; not fake friendly, but down to earth, pleasant, smiling people.
Was in NYC for the 1st time. My wife looked up the reviews and liked what she saw. So we went there on our last morning there and we liked what we had. Good atmosphere and great service!
Not like the old grey dog. They used to be much better.
Had brunch with some friends here and really enjoyed the experience! Staff were friendly, food was delicious (that berry butter thing was soooooo good), and I really enjoyed the French toast! The interior was so cute, and I really enjoyed the ambience of this place. Prices are pretty good given the location. I would recommend this place to a friend.
Went here for the first time tonight. Friendly charming staff and my classic burger was the best damn burger I’ve had in a very long time. Even the French fried were surprisingly good.
I love their breakfast, the coffee is good and the atmosphere is great, I love the bread pudding in the winter.
Good coffee and filling breakfast options
Very popular tourist place. We ate lobster in one of the restaurants and it was very good. Be prepared to wait on lines and wait for a spot to eat. Basically no seating.
Great food and ambiance. Veggie burger and fried chicken sandwich were delicious.
I had brunch there for the first time. The food was delicious I would go back to try their burgers.
Super friendly waiter staff and great food!
The counter help walked me though all the options and it was like they were reading my mind. I was never a big fan of fruit on my egg plate, but the food really made it work. Crisp yet soft breakfast potatoes, perfectly cooked eggs over easy, crisp and juicy bacon, delicious French toast, firm strawberries, blueberries, and bananas. On top of all that the coffee was a powerful light roast, or a light medium
Feel the suburbs within the city with village pancakes.
So friendly, amazing food, chill vibe, reasonably priced
I loved the atmosphere. Everyone was very helpful and kind! I ordered a goat cheese and avocado sandwich. It was really good.
The Grey Dog always seems to pop up when searching for brunch spots, so I decided to try it. You order and pay in the front and then take a seat wherever you like. You have to get your own utensils, sauces, and water on a shelves, which is better than having slow service. They have free refills on coffee, you have to bring it up though. The tables and seating were quite tight. Seared Tuna & Avocado Taco ($14.95)- 3/5 The tuna itself was bland and needed a lot of condiments, good thing it came with salsa and sour cream. I still had to add hot sauce to give it more flavor. Some piece of the tuna was a bit "stringy" and that turned me off. It also comes with fries that taste like a better McDonald's, but are really delicious. Blueberry Muffin- The blueberry muffin was crunchy on the outside and soft on the inside. They were also a decent size and quite delicious for a light snack/breakfast.
Outstanding service & food!! Great armosphere❤
Great food, wonder ambience. If going on weekends there is a line... they will assign you a saved seat once there. Best sandwich I've had in Manhattan. Wonderful brunch options.
Wait wasn’t too long. But was busy once getting in. Ordered our food at the counter which is usually how Grey Dog works. Waited probably 15 mins for food to be given to us which fine since the place is busy. Sat all the way at back of the restaurant which is the quieter side of the whole place. The pancakes were good. Bacon was great also. And the home fries were alright. Glad they came with peppers and onions as their other location were pretty bland with the home fries. Nice location and interior. Everyone in any Grey Dog I have been too have always been nice. But this place and the one on 16th street are my top two favorite Grey Dogs.
One of our local favorites. Solid food and a different enough to be novel vibe. If you want to avoid looking like a noob, don't put your stuff down at a table before you order. The servers carry bandanas and will reserve a table for you if it's busy.
I wanted to like this place, I was expecting amazing from the reviews and maybe not ordering breakfast or brunch was my downfall. I had a late lunch with a friend; she had the eponymous club sandwich, we shared the mac n cheese and I had the seared tuna tacos (medium). I also tried a hazelnut coffee and orange juice. To say I was underwhelmed is generous. To say the best thing I had was the orange juice is just sad. (It was tart and sweet and slightly pulpy, very nice actually.) The mac n cheese was extremely cheesy but tasteless and I don't even know how that is possible. The tacos were also flavorless and the tuna itself was bland. I've had instant coffee that tasted better than the hazelnut coffee I was served. The fries were nice and crispy and held up under the malt vinegar. So yeah, the orange juice and the fries were ok. The atmosphere is nice, if a bit noisy, the staff are great and attentive but with so many items missing the mark in my sampling I won't be back. To quote my aunt, "Life is too short to eat bad food!" Also, I woke up in the middle of the night with a horrible tummy ache and precious sleep minutes devoted to the porcelain throne instead. Unrelated? I'm not so sure.
I am downgrading my rating on Grey Dog. This used to be a fun and hip neighborhood place to get brunch. Now it is just full of tourists and the food quality has degraded. I just had avocado toast without enough salt and one strangely fried egg. The salad had way too much dressing and the dressing had way too much lemon.
This used to be one of my favorite go to places in the city to meet up for a casual dinner on a lazy night. Haven't been in several months as Ive been out of country so sad to report my most recent visit made me feel as though mit has truly gone downhill. Ordered my staple seared tuna salad, the tuna was not prepared as ordered (rare), the dressing leaves a lot to be desired (miss the spicy wasabi version) salad itself fell flat for the price. My friend ordered the burger also cooked poorly (over done) and burget and bun were dry. The sweet potato fries were soggy. Just very blah especially for the price. How disappointing was once such a wonderful place!
I. Love. This. Place. Staff is SO friendly. We just went on my friends birthday and they made us all feel extra special. The coffee is so good and the breakfast is delicious. We had the breakfast bowl and the omelette (so so good). Go here or the one in union square. It never disappoints
Excellent food and very hospitable, we had breakfast and plenty of coffee
Really good food and such nice people. And the Inside is so Beautiful, Kind if Vintage.
One of my favorite brunch spots in the city and at a reasonable price. I always get the grey dog breakfast (pancakes, eggs, bacon, home fries) which is very filling and gives you a nice variety. My wife says the gluten free French toast is good.
A little more expensive than what i normally go for, but the food was well worth it.
Nice atmosphere, good food, good taps, slightly overpriced.
This is my favorite restaurant in all of NYC & if it ever closes, I will lose it. I've been hanging at Grey Dog since my New School days back in 2005 & still frequent this place, with my same group of friends. As a native New Yorker, I love that there's still a place like this for the neighborhood. The food is great & we absolutely love the happy hour. The staff is also awesome. You want authentic NYC? THIS IS IT! You're a fool not to come here.
The place is beautiful but unfortunately they do not have any tolerance to vegans. O asked for vegan options and got an annoying. They do not have vegan options or at least not enough.
Great spot. Definitely go in. Restaurant. Bar. Cafe. Good music. Cool staff. Michigan Flag. This place has it all.
Gray Dog has good food, drink and atmosphere. Go to place for a fun meal in NYC.
Lovely service and excellent food! I got the goat cheese and avocado and it was delicious!!
Great spot for American fare. They provide really big portions and the atmosphere is very laid-back and casual. The staff is always friendly as well
