So... I have been here before about a yr ago and decided to give it another try... well that's it... no more. The food was bland... i swear the fry calamari was straight from a frozen bag. And oysters @$3.50 each... seriously...thats $42 a doz... that's crazy....I had the bake clams combo... all the clams were old... not fresh at all...its fair to say it over rated and just got it's name now.... im sure there is better food in city island.

You know a place is great when there's a long line from the door to the hostess desk! Luckily, it was just my wife and I, because there wasnt a long wait for oarties if two! As someone who frequents this restaurant, yesterday I was suprised to receive my normal entree of king crab legs and fried shrimp with a shortage of crab legs. This is a $60 entree and it should never less than what is normal. I spoke with the waiter who directed me to a supervisor who did nothing about it. Not very good customer service and I was not happy. SAMMY'S IS MUCH BETTER THAN THAT AND IM SHOCKED THAT MY CONCERN WAS DISMISSED. At this point I'm not so sure of my return.

This was one of my favorite restaurant until today. Not only the server brought me the wrong food, never bothered to apologize. Then he called the manager who also did not apologize for a single time. Although they changed one of the dishes, never bother to check with us in the middle to ask how we were doing. The server literally threw all the food at the table. Also, never came to to ask if we need any desert. Don't think I'll come back again.

Great atmosphere! Restaurant has vale service. Visited on at Sat around 2pm for a graduation. Not crowded and the wait was not long, made reservations. The waiter was very pleasant, I even complimented him for excellent service. Food was A+ DELICIOUS! worth the visit and wait. I would go again!

Service could be better. The food was okay. We had a really annoyed waiter that had no life to him. The hostess didn't say watch your step so I stubbed my toe on the steps to the booth. I asked for recommendations and got none. Just picked what you wanted and that was that. Our corn fell on the floor and the server never replaced it. I don't think I want to come back.

This was not my first time at Sammy's and usually I have no complaints. However, on this night it was a terrible experience. The food looked good but the taste was horrible. Our shrimp tasted old and unseasoned. We ordered the Lobster Extravaganza which costs about 140.00 when you include the tax. It was NOT worth it. When we complained about the shrimp, our waiter came back with the manager who offered to take back our shrimp and make us a fresh batch, only to return with a reheated version of the same shrimp. I don't know if I am going to completely stop going there because this was the first visit where we had an issue, but If I DO go back and it happens again, I won't return.

Good food, great customer service, great atmosphere. Party of five not a long wait at all. Cornbread was super delicious, bake bread, cheese, and veggie platter. I ordered the fried platter lunch portion which could have served all five of us. My mom who requested to go for her birthday ordered Lobster, shrimp, and scallops which included a salad and clams. She asked to switch the salad to soup and scallops instead of clam strips without any hassle it was switched. On top of that she did not like the soup , which the rest of us ate all of it but the bowl, so the waiter went and got her the salad. My aunt and cousin ordered the shrimp parmigiana which they truly enjoyed. Not only did they sing Happy Birthday but they gave her a Princess tiara and a slice of awesome cheesecake ( desert of her choice). Perfect ending to the birthday girls lunch. Highly recommend.

I love Sammy's because the food is always delicious. I love what I love, and I always get the shrimp stuffed with crab meat, and the lime martini. My fav things to order there, and they never disappoint on these two. Now that darn delicious bread with the cheese, I need to leave it alone and simply ask them to not bring it my table, so I won't be so weak. The waiters have always been pleasant and attentive, and I don't recall ever having to wait more than 15 mins for a party of 2, and I like that. Ok, now the one thing I don't appreciate from Sammy's is the old, wilted, celery, and salad they bring to the table. With the price of that food they ought to be more mindful and offer fresher salad or veggies. I've been to restaurants where I pay less money and get much better quality salads and veggies than at Sammy's, and for that reason they get 3 stars from me.

The decor is very rustic looking. The ambiance had a family style vibe with comfortable lounge seats. The food portion size is huge. There's even enough food to take home for later or the next day. Delicious food. The reason why I didn't give this place 5 stars was because of the waiting time. You have to wait an hour to be seated at a table.

Food and Service are always good. Don't bother making reservations as "they don't hold tables". We Made a reservation, arrived on time, yet waited an hour after our designated reservation time to be seated. We were told " making reservations at Sammy's means you get priority seating. We don't hold tables." Perhaps you should just let people know that it's "priority seating" they're booking not a table or just not take any reservations at all.

One mishap, appetizers were served as we were eating our entrees but our server, Tony provided great service and we forgot all about the order food should been received in. Sammy’s has been around for a very long time, one of the staple seafood restaurants on city island. Our Family go there on special occasions and we are never unsatisfied Dined for fathers’ day and their selection of seafood is vast. Interestingly, the wait wasn’t too long as we thought it would be. Service was quick. The food is good. The Paella is one of our favorites, It feeds the whole family and there is plenty to take home too. !!!

A great place to have a family dinner if you're looking to escape the city. The serving is gigantic so be prepared to save some room for your stomach. If my rating was based on the food alone, it would be a 5 star review. My family visited Sammy's on a Friday evening. Surprisingly, it was not that crowded. However, the service was extremely slow. The waiters were confused regarding who was handling our table. One waiter finally arrived to take drink orders only to tell us that someone else would come take our food orders. Although the food is extremely pricey (even for children's meals), it was very delicious when it finally arrived.

There’s a waitress that handles the back left corner booths where the two long tables are at that is extremely rude and I mean really RUDE she ruined the experience once again. Don’t get me wrong the food was good but she has a nasty attitude and poor customer service she snatched the pen and paper from my mothers hand and was rude to my grandmother regarding the receipt in a way got a bit loud with her. She also was trying to rush us to leave. I understand being a waitress is difficult but seriously she has awful customer service skills. Have been here before and will never go back again. My husband ordered fried catfish the waiter brought him broiled catfish. We didn't want to make a fuss he started to eat it one bite the fish was raw, tell the waiter and he says the Chef can put it back in. We simply said no thank you we don't want it. I ordered the shrimp parmigiana shrimp was gummy and tasted reheated. Ginger ale tasted like it was dispensed from an unclean machine. No one even came to say sorry or ask about our experience after sending the food back. Such a shame this place is going down. Will never go back.

I went my family for dinner on Memorial Day weekend, the valet parking is an A+, even though it was crowded to be seated inside we had an outdoor table really fast. The waiter was super nice he explain to me the “Sammy O Colada” would not be a good choice for my first time ordering it, we ordered 1 kids meal and the size of the kids meal was huge, I was super happy because my 10 year old was very hungry from being at the beach all day, the appetizer was also unexpectedly large. We enjoyed the meal and the workers there are super nice and helpful. will recommend this place to any family who has children with large appetite. Happy mom!!!!

It's a bit pricey but it's worth it. They serve your food in a large platter like family-style. The restaurant is very huge. The parking lot it's free and the parking attendants are very friendly and helpful. Most of the times there is a long wait time to be seated because it's always full especially during the summer season, but the wait it's worth it. It's a great place to eat and spend great family time with loved ones.

If you are looking for an extremely pleasant and delicious dining experience... you must visit Sammy fish box in City Island. I love this restaurant for so many reasons.... Yes, the food and pristine space are things that are very important to me, but, number one on my list of places I frequent is CUSTOMER SERVICE... and they knocked it out the park at this location. First, our waiter, Jimmy ... was as friendly and helpful as anyone could possibly ask. A smile, nice personality, attentive service and a few kind words really goes a long way.... thank you Jimmy, you were amazing. We really enjoyed your presence. I also have to mention the Manager, Gary. I had a small issue and Gary went above and beyond to rectify and make sure I was happy. He was extremely thoughtful and concerned about the complete experience being top notch... and it was. Thank you Gary. We will definitely be back and recommend to friends and family!

Sammy’s was amazing! We made reservations for 9pm on Memorial Day weekend but got stuck in some traffic and didn’t arrive until closer to 940pm and they were still able to seat us right away. The place was pretty crowded so I assumed they would of given our table away thinking we were a no show. The raw bar was great, fresh oysters and clams and the prices were very good. The crab cakes are your real deal Maryland crab cakes not these wanna be crab cakes with a bunch of fillers in it. Their crab cakes are nothing but crab. They are def worth getting. I got the king crab legs and they were so good! I cannot get over the amount of crab you get for 43$ it was double the amount I thought I was going to get! If I bought at the grocery store it would of cost me at least 30$ so it’s beyond reasonable. The only thing I can say that needs work is the waiter we had. He def had a language barrier not understanding us that well and was not very friendly or outgoing. Besides the waiter needing some work the actual dining experience was beyond good! Can’t wait to go back up there.

Very disappointing experience. Made a reservation and did not get seated for an hour after arriving. Parking was a disaster. Went back and forth to finally find parking in the 3rd lot. Confusing process to check in. Went back and forth from the main entrance to be told by the rude hostess inside (short Spanish girl) that we needed to go outside to give our name. After being herded like cattle back inside the restaurant, the rude little hostess kept bullying customers to step behind the already strapped for space section in front of the podium. Drove an hour and a half for this madness. On a side note, the waitress was nice and the food was good. However, a bit over priced from my perspective. Not worth the madness.

Oh Lawdy how delicious. Sammy is a staple in City Island and I have been going since as long as I could remember. It is not cheap but well worth it. The shrimp are huge, the lobster is so tender. They start you off with a huge loaf of warm bread and a tray of antipastos. With that alone you will be filled up. The portions are huge the shrimp are lightly coated and fried to perfection. The place looks like a typical seafood joint. The seats are super comfy and the atmosphere is great. I recommend highly and have made a point to visit at least once a month...Enjoy!!!!

Well,over crowded,lack of leadership at the front desk. Need to have more crowd control. Going there just 2 people you're on a separate line, they don't take names so VERY Easy for anyone to come up and say I WAS HERE,JUST WENT TO THE BAR FOR A DRINK...needs to have ORDER! Expect a wait,good thing about being a couple (2 people) you're by the bar,so having a few drinks helps with the chaos. Food wise it was good, I've had better, I've had worse for the price. So while city island is a beautiful place, Sammy's fish box was ok. The place is very clean, service was good and got almost everything right. About 95% of order so that's good. It's just the food lacks any real wow factor. Personally feel portions are just too big, but get that they have to substantiate the prices. But almost $40 for shrimp and chicken? And a bottle of wine that cost $9 in the liquor store going for almost 4 times that? I will not be coming back anytime soon.

Portions were pretty big. We had a shrimp and whiting combo which came with yellow rice 3 corns on a cob and their special fries, it was plenty for two. Even the kids meals were pretty big. Flavor wasn’t all there, could’ve used some seasoning. I didn’t really understand the concept of the veggies in ice water with bread lol, but the bread was good. Overall the menu is very overwhelming had tooooo much going on. I had a henny colada which was well executed. Best part of the dinner.

Food is great and better if you go before late or crowded rush times. I had very large fried shrimps and King crab legs.they where perfectly cooked and perfectly seasoned. Corn bread cheese and salads EXCELLENT.

I barely go there because it's congested to me. The food isn't well done because they have to serve bunch of people in seconds. Everyone please try this, a left over food that doesn't taste good, wasn't well done, period.

If you've never been to City Island in Bronx then this is a must try. It's not fancy more of a family style restaurant with huge portions and fresh seafood. A must try is the Paella, you will have leftovers for rest of week. Service is ok and I find it a bit overpriced but food was good. I had a nice treat to meet Linda one of the owners.

There are places that become tradition, this is one of them, truly great admosphere and awesome food, not cheap obviously is quality and you have to pay for quality but overall a great value restaurant. Keep making cooking awesome and making great memories for all your customers.

There are 2 Sammy's across the street from each other. I'm not sure what the difference between them is. We went to Sammy's Fish Box and it was great. We were a large party and the accommodated us really well. There is more space than you expect - there was an extra dining room upstairs where we were seated. The waiters are professional and handle a couple on a date and a party of 25 equally well. The menu is expansive - really had a hard time choosing but the waiter made some excellent recommendations. The entrees come with sides that you can choose but in addition, there are things that are automatically brought to the table. So, the things they bring to the table with each entree are: rice, salad, corn on the cob. Before you even order, they bring a large piece of corn bread, a freshly baked homemade small loaf of bread with some hunks of cheese and butter, and some pickles. The choice of sides are baked potatoes, fries, sweet potato fries and pasta with either marinara sauce or garlic. Fyi, the French fries are soooooo good. There are so many choices. There are even choices for those who don't eat seafood so it's great for everyone. They also have a reasonably priced kids menu with massive portions! Just a quick note about the parking: There are 4 parking lots that belong to Sammy's and all are valet - some are free and some you need to validate the ticket. I just gave the guy a nice tip.

Great seafood and options for everyone else. It's cute and a little campy inside - neon lights and fish figurines, but that only made it more fun. I had the scampi and my dad had the broiled combo. My husband, who has a shellfish allergy, had the ribs and chicken combo. We all loved our food, and every entree came with a salad, rice, corn on the cob, and a choice of a baked potato or fries. Everyone left full and my husband had a nice sized doggy bag. I took off one star because of the service. It wasn't really busy when we were there, but it took a while to get our food ordered and then a while for some sauce and things to come. Also I ordered a drink at the outset but didn't get it until the end of the meal. And I was facing down a dry water glass for a few minutes at a time. The server wasn't super friendly either.

Loved the food! I had crab legs and fried shrimp, the shrimp were jumbo and fresh, our waitress nova was great, some may find it a little pricy but the food is worth it, we’ll definitely go back.

This restaurant is absolutely amazing including all three restaurants right by each other, the service, and especially the food. My family and I had an amazing outdoor seating when we got there without a wait. Our server was one of the best part of our experience because of his generosity and patience since my mother asked for everything little thing lol. The kids meal “Barbecue Ribs” was huge for a kids meal which is a good thing for sure. Absolutely delicious and one of the best restaurants I’ve been to. I never write reviews but if I do that’s when you know it was great.

Went on Saturday before Father's Day. I had made reservations for 4 with the Open Table App. Reservations were confirmed but when we got there they informed us they were not honoring reservations during Father's Day weeked. We were told it would be a 30 minute wait but the line to add your name to the list was at least 15 minutes long. The restaurant was packed, loud and chaotic . Their food may be worth the wait for some but after waiting about 10 minutes to just to put our names down and still not seeing progress, we were able to get a reservation at another restaurant and left. However since so many people were intent on waiting, I would check this restaurant at some other time.

The servers could do better; they seem very bored and get the orders mixed up. They even sound dead inside when they sing 'Happy Birthday' to diners celebrating. The environment is very inviting though; but I reccomend you bring a sweater, it's quite chilly in there. Their food is delicious overall. 3 out of 5 stars from me.

It was my first time there and I loved the food I ordered. The Cornbread and cheese was good. Our was very friendly. The to go container was hilarious, made us feel like we were going to make a pan of macaroni and cheese. I'll definitely go back.

On March 31 I made a reservation for 26 people (which is now grown to 43 and still growing) for July 13. I was told that a deposit was not necessary since it was a luncheon and before the dinner crowd. On May 31 - 3 missed calls from the restaurant came through without leaving a message. I called back and spoke to Tiffany who identified herself as a manager. She advised me she was calling to inform me that my reservation was cancelled as they had a large crowd coming in at noon who PAID for their reservation. I repeated that my reservation was made on March 31 and I also offered a deposit. She declined it. I asked to speak to the owner and was told that he was unable. I asked for his name and she refused to provide it. She said he's very very busy. I also said to her, how horrible that you can take my reservation and call call me 2 months later to cancel and say its because of no deposit but not offer me the option to put one down??? I left numerous messages for him to return my call - no response. They treated me this way because I live 4 hours away and can't show up conveniently. IF ANYONE IN MY PARTY INCURS A CANCELLATION FEE FOR ANY INCONVENIENCES, I WILL SEEK LEGAL RECOURSE!

I went to Sammys fish box for dinner with my 2 sisters. We order appetizers and drinks. After the drinks arrived, it was was horrible. After 1 sip I asked the waiter if I can change the drink. She said, we can’t change the drink. The manager GARY came over. He was very rude, unprofessional, and terrible customer service. Gary said, “sorry we can’t change it” and walked away. The amount of money we spend, we left after the appetizer and went the Sea Shore restaurant. The Sea Shore restaurant’s food, drinks and service was 1,000 times better than Sammy. Gary - you need to go to customer service 101 classes.
