You will be able to see all the feddbacks of people who are using the services of Russ & Daughters Cafe (Fish Shop) in New York area.
Now the firm receives a score of 4.6 over 5 and this score has been calculated on 1951 reviews.
As you can see the average score it has is basically the top, and it is based on a very large number of feddbacks, so we may conclude that the rating is very faithful. If people have bothered to value when they've done well, it works.
As you know, we don't usually bother to set scores when they are good and we usually do it only if we have had a problem or issue...
This Fish Shop is classified in the category of American restaurant.
Good food. Good service.
Short wait for great food and service
Very nice menu offerings, the salmon and meat board is a nice offering. More traditional breakfast offerings would be nice. The table wait is excessive. An online table booking process should be considered. .
Food was great, waitresses and bartenders were great, atmosphere was great. Rated 4 because the big girl hostess was apathetic/rude/dismissive to other customers, was hostile to some people who came in, and grumbled while scrolling through her phone as customers said goodbye.
We had heard of this place on a travel show and happened to be nearby, so thought we’d try it out. There was a long wait for a table, but they took our number to text us when one opened up, allowing us to walk around the neighborhood. We were seated at a booth that was a touch cramped for my six foot height, but not so bad that I couldn’t sit and enjoy a meal for an hour. Wasn’t sure exactly what to expect when we went there. I didn’t realize that it was essentially just sandwiches on the menu. I typically don’t like to eat out what I can easily eat in. However, I knew it was well rated and popular so we gave it a go. So glad we did. I had the sturgeon and my wife the baked salmon. Both were incredible. The freshness of the tomatoes and onions on the soft Bialy with delicious smoked fish was amazing. So glad we went! Definitely sets the bar higher for what a sandwich can be. We finished our meal with a classic chocolate egg cream, which we’d never had before. Very fun dessert drink!
Our Sunday morning was ruined by the rudeness of the restaurant greeter Pao and bartender who for no reason gave us tons of attitude when we were asking for a seat. Our friends were arriving 10 min late and we asked if we could sit at the bar, which was empty at the time, to order a drink to wait Before they seated us. The bar was was completely empty except for one customer, but after we were seated at the bar, we were told we could only stand against the wall with our drinks to wait and can not sit at the bar..... I’m not sure if this is because we are people of color, but the rude attitude and treatment was uncalled for. It is unacceptable for a restaurant that works in providing service for others
EXCELLENT food and atmosphere. Definitely worth the hr wait! Had the bialy hattie platter (fantastic, better than the salmon I think) and Lower East Side cocktail (so good you'd think you were summering at a lavish family home in Maine).
Great service from Julian and amazing food. Will come again!
The food is always simple, elegant, and fresh. The prices are good, love the n/a bevs, we always get a seat, and the wait staff is courteous. What else could you want?
Yum! What a treat. Delicious smoked fish, old school feel. Will definitely be visiting again.
Decent bagel but not worth the hype
Even though I’ve had Russ & Daughters at home (holidays and shiva calls), this was my first time eating in the cafe and, oh boy, it was fantastic!!! Every single dish was amazing. I will go as far to say that the chopped liver was as good as my nanny’s!!!
I want to give more stars but I was honestly underwhelmed by this cafe. The food was really good, but holy is it overpriced! Me and my husband shared a smoked white fish chowder, mensch board, and chocolate babka french toast. I was taken aback that for $14 you get one small slice of warmed babka, a bit of whipped cream and no more than 2 strawberries. Our food and 2 egg creams were over $100 and we left still hungry. I can't imagine what the bill would have been if we hadn't shared! The service also left a lot to be desired. We sat at the bar and the service was lukewarm at best. When we were ready to pay we had to wait around for our server to take notice that we were trying to get her attention. Everyone just seems to take themselves way too seriously and it comes across as pretentious. I would not come here again.
the best bagels in town. that's if you can stand the hour-long wait
Great old style "appetizing" restaurant
This place has earned it's 5 stars. While nothing here is cheap, every dollar is well deserved. Service is clearly at the focus, and it's clear the staff all has the same goal, make the customer experience as great as possible. Pro tip..order the family size plates, not only are they a good value, but they photograph well. Also if you're planning on showing up between 9am and 11am on a weekend, plan on waiting 45min to an hour .
They make you feel like mespucha
Worth the wait. Best lox in the city. Amazing old school style New York deli with a modern twist. Great breakfast all around. The walk up shop on Houston has a pretzel bagel that’s
Very very good bagels and iconic NYC foods. Simple decor, and friendly staff, this iconic little place is certainly worth a visit.
This place has great quality food and a well done interior. We ordered a share plate for three of us and it was more than we could finish. The was a long wait, and i guess that means my review isn't necessary for their success..
Good food comfortable place to chat and eat.
Great matzo ball soup- little and fluffy matzo ball and rich and flavorful broth. Also got the Pastrami Russ, pastrami cured salmon on a pretzel bagel. Great flavors too. Would come back except it’s about a $25 lunch.
The egg cream and beet shrub are very good. The babka ice cream sandwich was nice
There is always a wait, but totally worth it. It’s a great way to enjoy some bagel and schmear in a beautiful atmosphere. Just put your name in an go check out Perriton across the street, by the time you’ve looked at 3 stories of art, your table will probably be ready.
Delicious, wonderful ambiance, friendliest folks. A little pricey.
Best smoked salmon I tried so far, definitely a high end place for bagel & cream cheese! Tasty
As other reviewers have stated, the wait can be rather long here. However, the food, atmosphere and service are top-notch. Would visit again.
Easily the best experience I have ever had at any restaurant. Hands down. They give you a pitcher of water AND seltzer (at no extra charge) right when you are seated. The cafe itself is lovely and nostalgic. The service was wonderful. The food, delicious. Everything about my bagel and lox plate down the the capers was delicious. The lox you get here cannot be compared to anything you would get at the grocery store. Wafer thin and delicate flavor. The matzo ball soup tasted like my mom’s. Even the beet juice, something I wouldn’t normally try, was fantastic. I love this place. I can’t wait to go back!
My experience at the legendary Russ and Daughters was exceptional! The food was beautiful and delicious. The kindness and thoroughness of the staff was off the charts! Unbelievable service! They stopped at nothing to make sure I was having an authentic Russ and Daughters' experience! I'll definitely be coming back to NYC all the way from Tennessee for another "Classic." Thank you Russ and Daughters for your commitment to your heritage as well as excellence!
The hostess was very rude. Wouldn't sit us because one person of the group was talking on the phone. She said she wouldn't care about reviews, we felt she hated her job and doesn't care about the legacy of this establishment
Nice food great vibe
Too hyped, not at all what you’re hoping to spend ona lox bagel. The prime bagel entre is $18 and doesn’t come ready, you have to add the cream cheese and everything to it and build your lunch. The place was cute and stood true to the vintage deli vibe, but food is not something I would pay that much.
Amazing breakfast! Their Meat Scrambler was to die for! Great atmosphere too! If you're a pancake fan for lunch, it's a must have! Amazing job guys!
It’s one of the best bagel in NY. It’s the secret of 105 years. (Since 1914) There are many good dishes over there beside bagel. And the place, the uniform are also stylish.
Extremely overpriced for the portions you get. It does have a nice old school diner look though.
Another easy 5. We went with the everything bagel with Norwegian salmon and scallion. Loved every bite.
I give the boards two thumbs up. Loved the bialys! Knishes and white fish croquettes were recommended by our super friendly waiter, also
Growing up in an east European decent Jewish home, I never had a particular interest in Ashkenazi Jewish food, let alone paying for it at a restaurant. But, after eating at Russ and Daughters it all changed. The baffles and cream cheese were one of the best I’ve ever had. The fish, was fresh and you could practically get any type of Salomon you want! Great experience.
Surprisingly, not a long wait! Great brunch options - lots of variety and we loved our latkes, bagels and benedict's.
So sweet. Delicious salmon bagel and egg cream. Adorable diner atmosphere.
the bagels are actually just okay, but you are here for their lox sandwiches (with scallion cream cheese)… and they are legendary. Russ & Daughters is a super famous Lower East Side establishment that’s been in business for 100 years. That’s a long time to be on the top in NYC. And expect a line… there is always a well-deserved wait for these sandwiches.
This was a very good choice. Tasty soup and generous portion of salmon!
Coming from Montreal, I will still say the special at Beauty’s is better. That being said, this is a close second. Worth the wait!
Really tasty bagel, amazing salmon, capers and onion to go with it. Very nice staff both at the entrance and also serving at the table. Fair price! Will visit again.
Very nice place Would definitely come back if in NY
We went there for experience sake! It is a popular spot with a good story around it. Get interested and do a bit of reading :) cause if you go just for food sake it may be slightly anti-climatic. There was a waiting line of 20 min, but we got seated faster. We had their famous bagels and coffee for two, kinda pricey. It was beautifully presented and it tasted great.
Good but not great smoked fish with long wait.
Very good breakfast and coffee. It has a classy interior design. It's a very nice place to have some meal.
Unlike most people that leave reviews on Google, I don't overvalue my five star ratings. My ego isn't so trumped up that I withhold a five star rating simply for the fact that there's "no such thing as a five star restaurant because if there were then what more could be achieved by any future restaurants?" When I give a place a five star rating it means that I really enjoyed partaking in whatever service a place offers and would recommend to anyone else. With that said, if there was a six star option then I would give it to Russ and Daughters Cafe.
Incredible experience! The food is absolutely delicious and reasonably priced for the quality. Service also on par with delicious drinks. Went for dinner, need to go back for brunch.
Lovely venue and food, however the lady greeting us at the door wasn’t the friendliest, and we had to ask the waiter for our cheque 3 times, and then ask 2 separate waiters to pay on 3 separate occasions. Paying up took over 45min, which is unacceptable.
Friendly staff and some fantastic food. Definitely would recommend you go during a weekday. The line to get in on weekends can go upwards of an hour and a half. Would recommend the latkes as well, wonderful way to start the day
Lunch at R&D Cafe today was a treat. 25 min wait for a table was worth it, made more pleasant by a friendly hostess. My companion under-estimated the heat of the Bloody Mary pepper version she ordered and a milder replacement was offered immediately. Lots of good banter with the server. Can "Eggs Benny" be any better? Ditto the salmon and matzo ball soup. We can see why they have been in business this long!
Amazing and worth the wait, get here early on the weekend if you have a a big group. they serve you fast and ate very knowledgeable about the food. They're deli is also great if you want something quicker. Bread pudding is amazing!
Tbh, this was a splurge, but worth it. They have possibly ruined lox for me for the rest of my days because surely nothing will compare to theirs. Vegetarian-ish DD feasted on eggs and lox. But what would have me give more than five stars if I could are the handmade sodas. After a fair amount of booking and walking in July, nothing could possibly have hot the spot more. Don't nurse your drink, though, as they water down and lose their magic. Service was excellent as well.
Long wait but great food and the best seltzer
It was an hour and a half wait for a table, and worth every second. The service was very prompt once we got in. We had the latkas with creme fresh and salmon roe, just amazing. The pickled herring is the stuff of dreams. I had the classic board and it was amazing. My friend also got the 'cold and hot' smoked fish pate, and it was probably my favourite. The texture, and the flavours were just amazing.
Overpriced and average food quality. Rude waitress at the bar. Wouldn’t go back.
We try to stay in the LES when we hit town just so we can take breakfast here -- I have not been here later than 11ish, and most recently (5/19) we hit a wait at 10:30 on a weekday, albeit not more than 7-10 minutes. The sable, a hard-to-find delicacy that is a big draw for us, as decidedly lackluster this time. although the pastrami salmon was excellent. The place is a visual treat as well, and excellent people-watching. Portions are judicious -- you will not walk out overly full. Must-go if you feel passionate about deli.
The classic! Menu favorite is the smoked pastrami, but if you come with a larger group be prepared for a wait because they only have two larger tables. Platters are worth the money if you have a few people and are willing to split. Pictured is the Ida platter (shared among 6 with a few more snacks)
Requested for a table for 1 at 11am on a Friday and was told that there is a 1hr wait. Lox Bagel was really yummy. Staff wasn't very friendly and looked annoyed at the line of people waiting for a table.
Absolutely love this spot. Excellent quality food. I'm more of "make a reservation" type of gal, so when the wait is well over an hour, I still say this spot is more than worth it for the food alone. Most of the staff is quite kind and helpful! but there was one woman who was quite hostile and that was unfortunate. In any case, I still look forward to enjoying this delicious establishment for years to come
It's Russ and Daughters, what's not to love? Great experience. Worth trying. A bit pricey to be a regular haunt.
Great food and stellar service. We ordered a platter and appetizers as a party of five. It was so good!
I’m sorry....what a BIG disappointment...!!! -Clean place -
A Jewish Deli steeped in tradition. Loved food such as the chopped liver and pickled herring. Apricot rugelach and even decaf coffee were great. Reasonable prices for food and fun casual atmosphere.
Reminds me of my mom's cooking. This place is full of nostalgia in the best way. Highly recommend. Be prepared for a long wait, however. Definitely worth it.
Great food and drinks. Good atmosphere. Friendly staff.
Delicious breakfast. Excellent service. Clean tables.
So delicious
Great selection and incredibly delicious!
If you're looking for great bagels add this establishment near the top of your bagel tour bucket list. I had the classy classic lox bagel that rolls on the website. They have lots of caviar and other fancy things but I said "Give it to me straight Johnny! I'll take a Lox on the Rocks!" Bagel delivered as observed on the video, very classy, the portions and ingredients were perfect. The tomato was the most flavorful I've ever had dining out, like the best tomato of the season from my garden. The cream cheese, dill, and kapers were perfect. I thought my bagel was solid however my partner says the bagel could have been more bagel-y. It was lacking in bagelness, comparatively....Give me back. Who's review is this? Write your own review okay. Mine was fine.
Amazing bagels, freshly made and came with fresh capers, lox (salmon), cucumber, onions and cream cheese. Perfect for breakfast or lunch. Ordered yum kippered and pastrami -baked salmon so fresh and tasted amazing.
So grateful that there is still a place like this around. Outstanding from top to bottom!
What can I say, it made me miss my bubby :-) We got here early on a Saturday and were able to sit easily, but by the time we left, there was a wait. Its worth waiting. Amazing fish. If you want grandma's brunch, this is the place to go.
We waited 30 min for our table which wasnt bad and the hostesses were sweet. Server was quick but not the most hospitable. Food was okay, but I don’t know what the big deal is about this place? It was clean and good smoked salmon, but I had better..
Potato latkes with wild salmon roe and creme fraiche. Do it. You will not regret it!
There were a lot of great comments and hence the crowd, we queued for about 45 mins before being seated, arrived around 10.05am on a Saturday morning. Good thing is, they offer a “sms” service where you don’t really need to wait outside the shop and they can send you an sms when your table is ready. However as we were told that our queue was about 30 mins, but we didn’t get any sms hence we just walked back and asked if they are ready for us, and only we got our table. The service was good and the food was served not too long after ordering. And there’s also no doubt that the restaurant deco was really nice and fancy. However I didn’t think the “boards” meal with bagel (I ordered Yum Kippened) was worth the wait. Perhaps some other food is better.
Very Nice! Had a lovely time here and the staff were fantastic. The coffee was okay and that is the only complaint I can think of...
I was in NYC for a long weekend. I'm not familiar with the city but I was lucky enough to stumble upon Russ & Daughters on my last day in town. I was greeted by a friendly host and seated immediately. I ordered the veggie omelet, which was out of this world. The omelet came with delicious fresh fruit and even the toast was very good. The waitress was quick to take my order and the food was served hot. My only complaint is that I was only able to eat there that one time. Next time I'm in the city I will definitely go back. Yummy!
Potato latkies and or French toast are awesome with beautiful presentation. If possible bring a friend and get both. The coffee is strong and keeps coming.
Recommend for brunch. Great day off brush cocktails. Lovely food. The long line usually for brunch/lunch to be seated.
What’s not to love about Russ & Daughters? The service at the counter was friendly and attentive. The food was incredible. The lox and bagel, the matzo, the eggs, all incredibly tasty. The nice selection of wine to choose from for a nice brunch drink. An absolute must for anyone in New York.
very solid meal, and fantastic ice cream for dessert.
Best seafood brunch cafe type place I could dream of, I've been to their café, perfect service and amazing fish, the sodas will surprise you. Furthermore getting their fish flown across the country and enjoying their amazing quality in a land locked state was emaculate. 5/5 cafe 6/5 fish.
Brunch or dinner, this is a great spot, and a natural and welcome extension to an LES establishment. In addition to amazing dishes featuring smoked meats from their long-time partners at Acme, they have an imposing selection of caviar as well as a surprisingly well developed cocktail program.
Amazing food. Legendary for a reason!
Came in at 8am on a Sunday in a party of 3 and were seated right away. Old school delicatessen vibe, waitress was great, food was overall delicious however not the best bagel platter I’ve had. Portions were small, especially for price, but resulted in us trying a variety of dishes without overstuffing ourselves.
Great kipping fish selection paired with caviar and we had a good salmon bagel dish. ❤
Nice place for breakfast with an extensive menu of authentic Jewish comfort food. We had the Classic Board and a Lower Sunny Side and both plates were lovely. The prices are a little on the high side, but nothing to be scared off. Their homemade drinks are also nice and the service is good.
This place is just as good as their deli. The food is incredible and the service was excellent. Ordered the classic, the yum kippered, the barreled vegetables, the potato knishes and the bread pudding. Everything tasted good and the cocktails we got were also very nice. I’ll come back here in a heart beat the next time I visit NYC.
Best fish platters I have ever had. And the pickled tomatoes blew my mind.
Great service and the best bagels and smoked fish in the city. And gluten free options too! Atmosphere is busy, authentic, and iconic lower east side.
Same great food as original location plus more! Clean modern decor for seated enjoyment. Maps may take you down Allen Street, but enter from Orchard.
Obviously this place is really good. You can tell from all the rave reviews you hear from your friends. I personally love the latkes and eggs benny. All the drinks are really good too.
Fantastic place for whatever your sea craving is. Friendly staff. It is very popular so get there early or be prepared to wait.
Love this place! I would highly recommend this authentic NYC restaurant to any local or visitor. Prices are high but it's what you pay for good food in the city.
It's delicious and the staff is thorough and helpful (a bit grumpy, but it feels like part of the NY experience). The sturgeon is the best!
Such a gem! High quality bagels, smoked fish, and other breakfast classics. It's lovely to eat at the counter and watch them make cocktails and egg creams. This location is the cafe, the store is two blocks up and around the corner. They only take reservations for dinner, so expect a wait during the day.
Felt very at home in this retro diner, probably due to the nice welcome from the host who seated me. Enjoyed the lox sandwich, as recommended, and the homely atmostphere. Important to mention that the wait to get in here is very long so set aside some time (a lot of time) for waiting, may not be suitable if you want a quick bite.
I can't believe that it has taken me so long to review this place! This place is a treat in all ways. They opened this place around the corner from their shop which has been around forever! I have always gotten the bagel from there religiously and they are very good! I tried the knish which was very good along with the chocolate babka French toast. They were excellent! My friend got the classic board which is a must try if you are visiting this place for the first time. It is not very easy to get a reservation or table as we had to wait a while to get ours! It was well worth the wait!
From the week they opened to last Wednesday I've been coming. Nothing's really changed (well, there are a few new menu items) but that's kind of what you want. Bit of a wait to get in, even when I wouldn't really expect it (noon on a Tuesday) but they make that as smooth as possible too. I recommend either the counter or waiting a little longer for the cushy booths at the back.
My first foray into Jewish food. We ordered the Potato Latkes with Wild Salmon Roe & Creme Fraiche & the Shtetl - Smoked Sable, Goat Cream Cheese, Tomato, Onion & Capers. It was a surprisingly tasty and filling meal despite how small each items looked. Service was quite busy and we had to call for their attention a few times before we were served, but overall a delightful first time here. Will be back again!
Waited about 1 hour 45 minutes for a place at the bar on a Sunday morning around 10am. Should have known better and come earlier. This place delights in every way. Great decor, fancy menu, wonderful service. We tried caviar and herring for the first time. It did not disappoint. I can't wait to return on our next trip.
A little bizarre concept (no moreso than any other very high end deli, or soulfood/streetfood fusion spot) but VERY well executed. One of the best french toast dishes I've ever had (and I've had a lot).
I got the classic platter and a cold brew ice coffee. The coffee had a good amount of flavour that wasn't too bitter and almost had a fruity after taste. The classic consisted of some delicious smoked salmon, thinly sliced tomatoes, red onions, capers, a sprig of dill, cream cheese and a choice of bagel. The highlight was that smoked salmon which was delicious, with a subtle smoked yet not overbearingly salty taste. I recommend trying russ and daughters.
Do you like brunch? Do you like New York? Then I *highly* recommend you eat here. Yes - the wait can be really obnoxious (my party of four waited an hour and a half), but they ask you for a phone number and text you when the table is ready. So go shop a bit, grab a coffee around the corner while you wait. We got a sharable platter - trout, salmon, spreads, breads/bagels, etc. Delicious.
The food was very good. It was the first time I tried lox and they were really good.
Be prepare to wait an hour. Thought, it's worth it. Both times I have been very satisfied. We got the Hattie platter for 3 ppl and was probably big enough to feed 5-6! Sabble and lox very highly recommended!
It's on everyone's list for a reason. The service is excellent and the food quality is outstanding. I especially appreciated the cool decor the the overall ambiance. No matter how busy it got it never seemed out of control or noisy. My coffee was filled up many times and I enjoyed every last bite of my classic board. The serving size was generous and the salmon was beautiful.
Wonderful! Long wait for your food but worth it! Pick a bagel offering they suggest or create your own. Nice! Had one of their own creations that featured Gaspe Nova Smoked Salmon and Wild Alaskan Salmon Roe. Along with all the other features such as cram cheese and onions. Wow. Fabulous. So many things I wanted to take with me. I just took some smoked peepers mackerel. Nice light flavor. Love it. Take it and go find a spot to eat. Joy!! While you wait you have time to expire all the choices and offerings. Lots here!
Food was delicious as always, but: The bartender lady seemed like she hated her job, her life, and us. she turned her back on us to put the order in before we finished ordering, and just nodded. Unsurprisingly, they brought the wrong bread with the order, and forgot to bring the shareable. The quality of the service at the restaurant has been significantly decreased since my last visit.
This place has amazing food! No regret walking from 23rd street to all the way here as my morning walk. Fish is fresh, bagel is amazing, everything else is so good! We were lucky to arrive early enough so there wasn’t a line up at all. I definitely will come back again in the future. Came here with my dad and he said this is one of the best he ever had too as he’s picky on seafood. Thanks so much and will come again for sure!
The brunch place to go to for salmon... they have salmon everything.. salmon roe to smoked salmon to raw salmon .. for breakfast, and love the bagel chips! And the breakfast cocktails
Best breakfast ever. Highly recommended! Everything was delicious and service was great!
Visiting NYC, I stopped at the Russ & Daughters Deli/Restaurant. It was excellent, hands downs. And also took same bagels home.
Good food overall, but I'd come back only with guests who expect a sit down place.
Welcoming decor and ambience. Quality ingredients (pumpernickel and sour cream, especially) and service. But $18 for a platter with 3 slices of smoked salmon and $12 for latkes, it makes the prospect of getting a small serving of caviar seem like a bargain.
The only place for an egg cream in NYC. Best lox ever.
Excellent Jewish Food. Lovely vibe. Great service. Latkas were undeniably delicious. There is always a wait. Usually they'll quote you a bit longer than it actually is, but they'll text you and give you 10 mins to get to the restaurant. So put your name down - plan to walk around for an hour - and don't stray too far so if you get called back within 45 minutes you're able to come back in time. Worth the wait. I'll be back.
Never had this lok bagel stuff before and it was mad delish, b.
Outstanding place really captures the vibe of the original shop and serves amazing high quality food. The eggs Benedict is to die for and made my day. Highly recommended anything on the menu
So cute! Great decor, immaculately clean. The waiters' uniforms are a great touch too. Sit at the counter and have an egg cream!
historic and fun place to enjoy kosher food
Go to spot in LES. Stylish. Delicious. Historic.
An absolute must if you’re in the neighborhood, you won’t regret it. Just be prepared for a wait or go at off peak hours.
My top place for tasty Brunch. Quick, helpful, and friendly service. The place has a great feel to it. They have so many reviews for a reason.
Love it! The ambiance, the staff. The food...! All superb!
A definite must stop when in NYC. Best Lox and Smoked Fish on the planet. Matzo Ball Soup and Egg Creams are also top notch.
This place is the best, they have great quality and selections. I would recommend coming here. The staff is amazing and they are super friendly and there is always something for you to pick based off what you want; great selection.
My absolute favourite brunch restaurant ever. The decor is amazing. Such great history. But the food..... the best smoked fish and herring ever.
The drink and food made me sick.Goodbye.I never come here again.
Had the Classic Board. Delicious.
one of the over rated, over priced diner. i got green salad with salmon and the classic open sandwich board. the salad was ok but the portion was too small. and the classic sandwich, i got three THIN SLICED smoked salmon. when i made a sandwich, only thing i could taste was cream cheese and tomato since the salmon was too thin. waited half an hour, but not worth it. very disappointed.
5pm. Empty restaurant. Was first to arrive for a party of 2. Hospitality here has to wait until the entire party is here. Missed revenue. Missed common sense.
It was our first time and everything was perfect . Very professional wait staff. Great food everything was fresh and healthy, very delicious and crowded but calm place. We loved it
Extremely overpriced and overrated bagels. You can get a better salmon and cream cheese bagel almost anywhere in NYC. The bagel is deconstructed as just ingredients on a board and costs a massive $18. Not worth it.
Great brunch experience! Tasty Bloody Mary and great food.
Long wait but they text you when table is ready so you can easily go explore while waiting. The Classic was amazing and I'll continue to return every chance I get.
Oh my, this place is amazing and I'll be remembering this bagel and schmear and locks for a very long time. Hancock paper thin walks, melts in my mouth. The bagel is nice and fluffy, too. Cream cheese is whipped. Beats our Midwestern bagels and accoutrement hand down. Best appetizing I think I've ever had
Cafe adjunct to a famous smoked and pickled fish serves suberb salmon, herring & whitefish. The bread and bagels are top notch, as are the sauces and condiments. Good service as well. I have been to places that don't live up top their reputation, but this place really does!
Really enjoyed my lunch experience here. Great food, calm and casual ambience and good service. Tried the classic board (smoked salmon & bagel), whitefish croquette and matzo ball soup - all great tasting and portions were just right. Might not be huge quantities for the price but you definitely get quality. The smoked salmon was the best I've tried so far and cream cheese was smooth and tasty without being overpowering. Dessert was decent - had the ice cream and honey cake. Overall highly recommended and worth at least one visit if you are in NYC.
Good Bagel with quality salmon, sadly deconstructed. Terribly long wait (the host said 30min, we ended up waiting longer than an hour)
Third time lucky here. It opens at 9 and gets full quickly even on weekdays, so get there early - we arrived an hour after opening twice and the wait was huge! Regardless, onto the bagels. Food and service are great, and well worth being on time for!
Food was amazing. Get there early with your whole party to avoid a wait. Totally worth the wait tho.
Whether you're a local or a tourist, this place is a must to visit! The food is amazing and the staff is so kind. It does feel like a home-y spot. I would recommend getting there early because the wait and line can take a while!
The food and dining environment are OUTSTANDING! The cafe is super clean and quiet, the waiters are incredibly friendly and professional, and the service is impeccable. We ordered bagel platters, kasha varnishkes, whitefish croquettes, and topped off our meal with halva ice cream. Every item was absolutely delicious and beautifully presented. This restaurant reinforces it's phenomenal reputation through hard work, consistency, and dedication. Highly recommend you add this restaurant to your itinerary.
Very popular spot in the neighborhood so expect a long wait but the food is incredible.
Portions are small but sufficient, food is really great and atmosphere is fun. Be sure to get the challah bread pudding!
Amazing breakfast spot, have been coming here for over 2 years now, and each time they do NOT disappoint. Love their cream cheese!!
Very nice place for all day breakfast! Love the Eggs Benedict! The shrub is nice too. Only giving it 4 stars since one of the employees behind the bar didn’t seem like she wanted to be there..but overall it was a good experience!
We were dead-set on trying this place and waited an hour and a half (and a couple of bloody Marys next door). WORTH THE WAIT. Every bite. Nice staff & cocktails too.
Quite simply, amazing! Stumbled across this cafe on the recommendation of our hotel concierge. Didn't look conspicuous from the outside, but was very busy and happening when we walked in. The brunch was very satisfying and the service friendly and attentive. Highly recommend!
Gorgeous food and totally worth a visit. We ordered bagels, all ingredients were fresh and tasty, the staff was professional. Looking forward for another visit here when next time in NY.
This place was so good. Interior was beautiful and attractive. Amazing food.
Get a number. Buy extra spreads in 1\4 containers and beautifully sliced Nova to eat later.
Very enjoyable place to eat
Russ and Daughters is my favorite place in NYC for lox and bagels. They have a few locations where they sell their bagel sandwiches, but I like the Russ and Daughters Cafe on Orchard because it’s a sit down place where you can just take your time and relax with a cup of coffee or a drink. They have an extensive menu, but I always order the lox and bagels and nothing else. I don’t even have to look at the menu because this is where I get my lox and bagel fix in the city. I also like the DIY style of their lox and bagel because you can pick and choose what you want to put on it and how much cream cheese you want to add. If you have some time to sit down and enjoy breakfast one morning, head over to Russ and Daughters Cafe for their lox and bagel!
