Very high quality fish with clearly delineated point of origin (often both fishing method and boat). The store also seems to stock product only from non-endangered fisheries. While high quality fish comes at a higher cost, there is no question MG is a major asset for the neighborhood.

Bring your sunglasses. The gleaming polished surfaces will make you squint. Mermaid's Garden is so clean, and the fish is so fresh, you can't smell the fish in this store. Try the prepared foods, each one a treat, especially the shrimp cakes.

With all the recent news that up to half the served fish in U. S. major cities are really cheaper substitutes unbeknownst not only to restaurant patrons but by chefs as well, it is satisfying to know you have a local source of authentic fresh fish in the neighborhood. We were customers of the owners as members of their local fish share. Now that they have a storefront, we are thrilled to see them reaching a wider audience. They get their fish directly from New England fishermen who abide by sustainability practices so you can feel environmentally sound about your purchases too.
