Just had an overnight stay in Albuquerque and California Pastrami was near my hotel. So glad it was. The Eastern-style pastrami sandwich was so good, very generous servings too. Loved the potato salad and nice, friendly staff. Lots of other selections available beside pastrami. Highly recommended.

Very flavorful Pastrami, piled high on warm rye bread. Served with some of the best tasting sides of Cole slaw or potato salad, and lets not forget the crisp pickle spear that tastes like my homemade pickles. Bravo! The entire staff was pleasant and they make you feel like a welcome guest with their gracious hospitality. Our go to place for a great tasting sandwich.

Excellent pastrami and other sandwiches! The french fries remind me of some of the places I used to go to for Italian beef and hot dogs when I grew up in Chicago. Service is great. You can also buy bulk pastrami too. We try and go to California Pastrami each time we come into Albuquerque. It's really that good.

A friend and I dined IN and enjoyed turkey sandwich for her and a tuna with avocado on rye for me. We had combos with drinks and fries (chips for me) and fresh made lemonade for me. The food, staff, service were all outstanding and the food choices are varied and made to order every single time! They are happy to personalize each order. There is a thing about California Pastrami that sticks with me every time I come. The No-Nonsense approach to making some of the Best sandwiches around. I would caution you though; Do Not try the Reuben sandwich. Repeat Do Not try the Reuben sandwich. I have been many times but when I tried the Reuben I was and am, absolutely Hooked! My wife loves the pastrami sandwich still, which I indeed understand. It is exceptionally good. I promise that whoever tries this store will fall in Love just as my family has. Thanx

I should have known before going, the name alone screams "overpriced" and "not as good as the cult insists." The service was fine and timely, though I was annoyed that they prioritized phone orders over in-person orders. The pastrami was mediocre. It's too salty and sliced too thinly. The fries act like they want to be English chips but are overcooked and flavorless and there's no vinegar (which you need if you want to be English). Mostly though, the prices is what bothers me. Over $12 for just a pastrami burger (plus more for the combo) or >$7 for a hot dog combo is RIDICULOUS. It's a friggin hot dog!! A hot dog combo should never be over ~$4. A great pastrami burger should never be over ~$10 for a combo, much less $12 for just the burger. Crown Burger of SLC is still the best pastrami burger in the West. I'm glad I went once. Doubt I'll be there again.

The food is delicious when it's actually prepared the way you order, however that's almost never the case. Special requests are NOT their specialty, as simply asking for no garnish or a different type of bread is too difficult a task for the employees to comprehend. Communication is almost nonexistent between the cashier and the cook, which is not how a food business should be run. I would know, I've spent many hours working in a restaurant myself. As a result of the poor communication, wait times for food are excessive. Another contributor is likely the fact that they are almost always understaffed. Two employees and a trainee is not a proper staff for a restaurant during dinner rush on a Friday night. If you aren't making enough income to make up for an extra staff member then there should be a little more effort in making the orders correctly. I guarantee that having less mistakes and less food waste/refunds would create enough additional profit to make the product a little more efficiently and make a happier customer. I would also like to point out how around 6 months ago I was going to the store around 7 p.m. to pick up food for my family and was denied access into the store. They had hours clearly posted on the door and I was there before they were slated to close. The door was locked, and when I knocked there was a male employee who greeted me and told me I was out of luck. Pretty pathetic. Don't come here if you're looking for a pleasant experience through and through. If you want good food but don't mind sitting around waiting for employees to fumble around to get it right then this is the place for you.

A co-worker was going to California Pastrami and offered to pick something up for us if we place our order online. It sounded good so I placed an order for Classic Combo. When the food arrived, I did not receive a combo; only the sandwich. I called and the woman on the phone (name unintelligible) explained that they had been extremely busy with online orders (like it wasn't her fault). She took my number and said a manager would call me back to credit the difference between the sandwich and the combo ($13.54 is a lot for a 6 inch, 6 oz sandwich by itself). The manager did not call me back so I called him several hours later. I was advised by the manager (Jose) that he would not only bring change for the difference but would also bring me the sandwich of my choice (since I was a first time customer) the following day at lunch time. Jose was a no show. The ball was in their court to make this right and they dropped it. There are better, cheaper sandwiches in Alb rather than mess with this place. Try Mcalister's deli instead! Moral of the story for business owners, do not commit to something if you do not intend to follow through. It ruins your trustworthiness.

What a great little sandwich shop with delicious pastrami!! Service is friendly and fast. This store is a bit smaller than the other one I went to, (on Coors?) which seemed to be in an old fast food restaurant and not as charming as the store on Montgomery. I almost always get the pastrami Rueben because it is SO GOOD!! But next visit I may try the cheesesteak. The chili cheese fries are great, and for an up charge you can have them with your combo. When I am doing the low-carb thing, they will grill you up a half-pound of pastrami and melt some cheese in it...delicious and basically no carbs! Go check it out and you will be hooked too!

If you like beef, good beef, then California Pastrami is the place for you. They have a menu that has many different ways to use pastrami, from regular pastrami sandwiches to, my favorite, Pastrami Burgers. A medium pastrami burger, coleslaw, and a large drink will make your day. Oh, and they have well trained, and friendly staff. :-)

I loved this place when it was out of a truck in Santa Fe. I was happy to find it again in Albuquerque, and even happier now that my work allows for me to visit it regularly. The Reubens are excellent, and the fries perfectly crispy. And the kitchen is much faster than the truck ever was.

This was a fantastic Pastrami sandwich. I got a "lite" (smallest size) classic pastrami and it was still very filling. I like that you can add fries and a drink; itwas overall less than $10. If you're from California like myself, it may remind you of Togo's. It was good and I'll be going be back.

This is the BEST sandwich shop in Albuquerque! They pile the meat on high and it's authentic and fresh! Highly recommended. My husband had the pastrami, with 1/2 pound of meat! I had the philly and it was indeed authentic! The boys had burgers and they were excited at the excellent quality and flavor. Finally, a good food joint in Albuquerque NM for these East Coast Transplants!

I just want to say the food is great and a couple cashiers are friendly. However hearing the manager nechel, yelling at the employees while I'm eating or trying to order is very dissatisfying. It has happened quite a few times already and I think the cashiers are great and very friendly especially a couple new young ladies I have met I hope to not hear anymore unsettling arguing while I eat if you treat your employees as you would treat yourself business will be better for customers as well as employees

I was there recently on a Saturday evening -- my first time in over two years. There were no other customers but me -- that should have been my first clue. I got an 8-inch East Coast pastrami on rye and a slice of pineapple upside down cake. I don't know what meat was in the sandwich but, in my 70 years of life, it wasn't any pastrami I've ever eaten before, and the rye bread was, well, I'm not sure what it was. I won't be returning. Sad. I remember when CP was excellent. I don't know what has happened.

The sandwiches here are legit. As a California native, these pastramis are just like I remember them when I was growing up in SoCal. I am a fan. Mrs S had the Reuben—and, again, it was incredibly good. I can’t wait to try the Philly Cheesesteak during my next visit. The chips were good. The potato salad not so much. Will update as we try new items. Divey atmosphere, reasonable prices and good service—but the food is oh so good.

Food is good, but way over priced!. The classic combo with onion rings cost me almost $16 for 1! And i still got some room over hear weighing 150lbs. I've never spent $16 and still was hungry. The classic size sandwich by itself is $10.50 and half the size of a Dion's sub that costs 7.50 and comes with chips. This was my second time and i will not be going back. The food is not that good for that price.

Don't let the name of this fun little restaurant put you off. I have only been to their restaurant on Montgomery at San Pedro in a little strip mall. It is great all the way around. I love California Pastrami's Green Chili Philly with their delicious home cut/cooked potato chips. (It's Italian Ice which morphed into Philly 'N Fries, used to have the best Green Chili Philly...they were formerly located on Second and Phoenix,...but closed their doors to move to Tucson.) California Pastrami's GCP was a close second, but is now the new best since one of their competitors is gone.... CP's pastrami, corned beef and Reuben sandwiches are also excellent. If you want an unusual hot dog, please get their Border Dog...absolutely different and delicious! Other than their stand out food, they hire the nicest people to take your order, cook and deliver you food. And as a special neat thing, they serve pineapple upside down cake....yum!

The food here reminds me of The Hat in L.A. Delicious pastrami sandwiches! One reviewer mentioned they didn't like it because it wasn't like Crown Burger in SLC. That's thick cut, Greek style pastrami which is very different from thin sliced SoCal style pastrami. So glad I found California Pastrami. And the employees were very polite and attentive. I will be back!

One absolutely cannot find a more congenial, customer oriented old sandwich shop atmosphere than at California Pastrami. It's the best pastrami in Albuquerque and this is coming from a native of the city! The employees of this family owned and operated restaurant make you feel as if you are a part of their extended family. Let's not forget the great sandwich selection also! I love it and take my friends there often. Don't visit Albuquerque without going by California Pastrami and getting a great (and bountiful) sandwich, as well as great hospitality!

I love the food at California Pastrami. My wife and I had been looking for a good pastrami sandwich in Albuquerque for quite some time when I first heard of this new restaurant on the radio a few years ago. When we tried it we were VERY impressed. After eating a few of their pastrami sandwiches I decided to try the Ribeye Steak Sandwich and I liked that even more than the pastrami and now I almost always get that one. I highly recommend that you give this place a try!

Ordered on Door Dash website. Said it was open. Mind you, this was way before their advertised closing time. Order placed, order taken, card charged, driver goes for pick up and place is closed. If you're going to use delivery apps, update your closing times. Won't order from here again. Isn't like the food is a bargain either.

California pastrami on the west side is terrible. Took 20 minutes to get a sandwhich out.asked them what took so long. The manager said we lost your order. There was 3 drive thru orders including my order. Never go to this place again.

My first time visit to California pastrami was an impressive one. My son and my granddaughter went for lunch one day here at the Albuquerque Montgomery location. The restaurant was impeccably clean, the employees really treated us like they liked that we were there. The food was fresh and delicious prices were reasonable, the delivery a food too our table was fast. The manager took a special interest in my granddaughter which of course was a happy thing for me. She didn't have to take the time to do that but she did and I appreciated it and so did my granddaughter who is three and very sociable. I will travel further to go to California pastrami and I will pass Subway on the way!

Excellent food, excellent service! The Pastrami burger is amazing. They have a very large menu and everything I've tried is delicious! The employees are very helpful and the customer service is second to none. This is not like going to a typical burger joint, the high quality of the ingredients are obvious as soon as you get your food. It is also little more expensive , I won't lie. But you get what you pay for and the service and the food are absolutely worth it. I honestly go there every chance I get. I recommend California Pastrami to everyone I know.

Great food, excellent staff, super clean store. The order was put in and in less than eight minutes it was put together and ready to go, correct and hot. Only issue, minor one, was the price seemed excessive. I did get the largest size of the California original but thought for just the sandwich $13.84 was a bit high. Because of that I probably won't frequent that often. Otherwise a homerun. A solid 4 to 4.5 stars.

I don't know if it was because they were busy on a Saturday night, although that really shouldn't matter - but they got our order wrong and the product that was right was sub-standard. The Philly cheesesteaks had very little cheese, onions or bell peppers, but plenty of wax paper in what was made supposed to be the steak. Wrong drink order. Condiments put on or left off at the whim of whoever was preparing the food. Very disappointed overall - but typical of the Albuquerque food service industry.

The Real Deal. I grew up going to the Hat in Culver City so I know good pastrami and this place does it right. Will definitely go back. Great meat not all fat like some places.

Do not eat here serve expired food no dates on food most of everything served is bought from Sam's club except for pastrami this restaurant needs health inspection

Quick service, helpful & caring crew. The service was excellent and much more than you get in most fast food places. I'll be stopping by here more often. It's just down right friendly and pleasant here and seeing the good side of people is a bonus in this day and age.

Been here several times. Love the pastrami. Only downer is the bread (burger/hot dog buns)comes out a bit dry sometimes. Service was Kid friendly, cook entertained my 7 year old daughter. Recommended.

This place is GREAT! Quickly, unlike Jimmy Johns, where a turkey/cheese sandwich had one slice of each, so thin we could see through, a total rip off, Cali Past (CP) shows each item with the amount of meat in ounces, so you know how much you will be getting. That is fantastic in and of itself. The meat is fresh and sliced before your eyes (no "flaked and formed" like Arby's). The pastrami was excellent. The service was fantastic. Friendlier young ladies I have seldom to encounter. Our "waitress" was super friendly, gushed over the Reuben Sandwich, which we will try, said that the tuna salad was made fresh when ordered, the lemonade is made fresh squeezed. GO HERE TO EAT. GrubHub delivers their stuff. EAT HERE. TIP BIG. I don't usually go to fast food joints except for Chick-Fil-A once in a while, but I AM going back to California Pastrami again, in Albuquerque, on Montgomery. I was told that the same couple that owns this one owns the one on the west side. EAT AT CP. TODAY.

I was in the restaurant today (10/31) and it was absolutely PACKED! I came to redeem my $5.00 coupon that I got for joining the frequent buyers club, and I bought a Ruben and a Pastrami of which I had the Ruben for dinner ton it and it was absolutely DELICIOUS!!! The pastrami was tender and tasty and the sandwich was HUGE!! Without a doubt, one of Albuquerque's BEST sandwiches and it's worth the trip from ANYWHERE to eat a truly GREAT meal. I'm afraid Joe is going to have to expand his place by taking over one of the businesses on either side of him, because his place was bursting at the seams today.

Wow I will always come here everytime I come in for either lunch or dinner. I am always treated with respect and hospitality. I think every business in Albuquerque needs to come into this establishment and learn a thing or two on how to treat a customer. Food is delicious as well!

Very good coleslaw! Loved it! Sandwiches are delicious 2. Huge portions of meat. But I was blown away by the coleslaw. If you like KFC coleslaw then you will absolutely love California Pastrami coleslaw. It's not so chopped up and has slightly bigger pieces of cabbage.
