This is my third trip to Discus Madness! I travel from dutchess county ny just for this!! I have never been disappointed with ANYTHING from Discus Madness! Matheus and his crew are extremely knowledgeable, very careful in packing, and willing to educate me in my hobby! I have been in this hobby for quite a few years and I have found that Discus Madness is by far the Best Aquarium specialist around!! My husband and I have been keeping tropical fish for over 30 years. This was our first experience ordering from Discus Madness, we ordered one dozen Orange Venezuelan Coridoras. We found Mathias very helpful, both over the phone, and through emails. The transaction could not have gone any smoother. The fish arrived on time, expertly pack, healthy, and with great color. The quality of fish and service that Discus Madness offers is above and beyond all freshwater fish stores in the area. They were very friendly (rare in this business) and stocked a huge variety of well kept, beautiful freshwater fish including discus, angelfish, corydoras and a lot more. I serviced tanks for a few years and have seen many tanks and fish stores. None come close to Discus Madness. I have no reason to go to any other fish store in NJ again. I 've been in the hobby many years and have been to many fish stores over the years. I feel this establishment is the best of them all from selection of fish to the staff. The owner is very knowledgeable and friendly! When you walk through the store you can tell that they pay close attention to all the tanks. Everything is super clean and the fish are all healthy. I normally quarantine fish that I buy from stores but when I purchase from Discus Madness I feel confident in forgoing that step ! I would recommend this store to anyone that is in the hobby in that they would have a great experience!

Was willing to pay a little extra for USA bred plecos hoping these guys would be free from parasites. Of course they came in with parasites. Fast shipping and prompt service otherwise. Update: I got a very concerned call from the company after placing my review. They went through some questions with me and it turns out the anti-parasitic medicine I was using to quarantine them is the most likely cause of their diarrhea. I have never been to their store personally but I was told that none of the plecos at their store have this problem.

Ordered 5 fish From discus madness from my birthday. None of them ate in the first week and they had white feces the whole time (An indication of internal parasites) I had other fish in my tank, stable for over two months and they were all introduced to the parasites and many of them were lost. Very dissapointed with my order and a sad birthday indeed. Two of the discus have now passed with two others in a hospital tank and only a single healthy discus left. Update: every discus has now passed. Go to your LFS and do not risk buying from this store and having your tank destroyed.

The shipping was pretty fast the fish are healthy but they look NOTHING like the photos shown on the website, the colors are way different, I spent a good amount on discus fish and when they got here they looked nothing like the photos either too small (tiny) or different color, the fire reds are ORANGE by the way....will NOT purchase from here again I don’t like making big deals about anything I just won’t return as a customer...

My family and I went here this past weekend. My son wanted an aquarium and decided he’d like to have discus. We did some research online about them, and luckily someone at a nearby pet store referred us to discus madness. Mathias and Brian were extremely patient with us (we were 6 people total including our kids’ friends). They have an incredible wealth of knowledge, passion for the hobby, and (again) patience. We learned so much. As for the store itself- absolutely AMAZING. We will be back in a few weeks to pick up our discus.

I was so impressed with this store! I went there beautiful Angel fish which are happily thriving and was so impressed with all of his tanks. He specializes in Dicuss fish, carrying the most variety and picture perfect of any that I seen before. I want to keep Discus fish in the future. Also, his live plants that look much better than other shop that I have visited. Definitely want to buy from this store again and learn from this guy!

This is my number 1 stop for EVERYTHING. I get all my rare requests fulfilled here. Up to today I have never lost a fish from this place. All livestock is healthy and robust and they have amazing water quality and clean tanks. Every fish in this store is sporting amazing colors (Discus, Plecos, Rams, Peacock Gudeons.) Mathias takes his hobby seriously and you can see the level of quality and detail throughout the shop. Some of my rarest pleco's come from here and all ate on the first day of introduction and acclimated fast to my tanks. I purchase from here very confident as I never had a single fish from here die. I love my discus fish I bought 7 and one didn't want to eat and other then that he was healthy but Mathias responded to me quickly and I waited and he finally ate, now I'm happy. Also my discus came in a little red and Mathias explained they were fed tetra bits and the colors will change with the right diet it's been almost a month and there gorgeous.

I went to the store because I wanted to purchase a few discus fish. The owner would not answer any of my questions and told me to go online and research. The man was so rude he didn’t even look at me . I made sure to inform other tank enthusiast not to go there. He’s horrible

This place is amazing, and definitely worth the drive. It really is discus madness. My husband and I set ourselves at only adding 2 more discus to our tank, and choosing only 2 was one of the hardest decisions we both had to make in awhile. They have what seemed like thousands of strains of discus and multiple sizes as well. In addition, the staff is knowledgeable, friendly, and helpful. If we ever upgrade our tank, this will be our first stop!

We just made our second trip to Discus Madness, and we cannot say enough good things about it. Their inventory is vibrant and healthy, the facility is clean, and the staff are second to none. Our fish from the first trip 1 month ago are thriving, eat very well, and have had their color come in so vividly. Our fish adore their beefheart mix. They also have a great selection of tank mates. We are happy to recommend, and plan to return.

Only positive things to say about Discus Madness! For years I have dreamed about one day having a large discus tank. With the time right, we did some research looking to setup a tank for our family car dealership in the Bronx. We were nervous about buying live fish online, but after looking all over, Discus Madness impressed us the most. They have a fantastic option to purchase 8 juvenile discus for $200 plus $50 to overnight ship them. Mathias was very hands on prior to delivery and gave us great information to put the fish in the best situation to thrive. You get to pick 3 color strains of the 8 you receive. We expressed to Mathias how important color variety was to us, especially with no yellow option available with this package purchase. All 8 fish arrived alive and healthy, safety packaged in an insulated styrofoam box, and MATHIAS INCLUDED A YELLOW DISCUS! The color selection is perfect and so diverse. Thinking I would get tiny <2.5 inch Discus, the fish were slightly larger and full beauties! I strongly recommend purchasing a large plastic container or secondary tank with a bubbler and heater to properly age your water for water-changes (Mathias #1 tip). This allows you to naturally perfect your water quality so your fish thrive. I also purchased a UV Sterilizer to combat algae bloom since my tank is in a bright, naturally lit office. Now a month later and our fish look AMAZING! No casualties, and all have a great appetite! They are the perfect addition to our office and our customers love watching them almost as much as we do! I have never been to the store but I have ordered their fish trough the mail. After a bad experience with another NE fish website I vowed to never buy a fish sight unseen from a website again. After over a year of looking for what I wanted I broke down and gave them a try. Best decision I ever made. Excellent color, markings and size. Packaging was very good and all fish arrived safely. Ordered a zebra pleco online, paid a little extra for a medium sized pleco as opposed to a small and if you don't know the price for one of these fish, look it up because it's kind of crazy. Shipping was right on time but when I opened the bag, I thought I was sent a bag of water. I understand the size of zebras and know they aren't the largest fish but the little one in the bag was arguably a fry. It was fine, the fish they sent was healthy so I'll give them that but can't say I was totally satisfied with their experience. Would I buy from them again? I'd probably think twice but possibly.

Getting back into Discus, so I am going to see Mathias. I have mail ordered from a number of the top importers in the country and Mathias' product is as good as any! The difference is, since he is local, I get to go and pick my fish instead of being at the mercy of mail order! This advantage is priceless, so if you live in the tri-state area, get over to his store, you will not be disappointed! He has an extensive array of strains and very competitive pricing! I placed an order for 3 fish last year in October and they arrived packaged well and looked good upon arrival. However, one of the three fish (a 4.5" albino golden snakeskin) was not eating and never took a meal in my care. The fish also had white stringy feces. I immediately started medicating and used a combination of medications for internal parasites and worms, but the fish did not improve. When the medications did not work I reached out to Mathias through email asking for a partial refund of my order if the fish did not survive. The response was "We cannot really offer you what you are asking, unless you decide to place another order and we can give you a discount on the same strain if you want (shipping charges will apply), I would do this only out of curtesy, as I really have no proof of this except for your words". He went on to give some pointers as to how to care for discus that are not eating, but admitted that it was probably too late for this fish as it had not eaten for over a month. While two of the three fish in this order are doing excellent, I had to put the sick fish down since it never ate in my care, the white feces continued, and it became very weak and lethargic after about 2 months. I now have a full aquarium of happy and healthy discus and would highly suggest looking to purchase from other discus breeders/importers that have higher standards and better customer service after the sale. I will not purchase from Discuss Madness again.

In Northern NJ, perhaps the entire New York metropolitan area, the best selection of Discus, so the name "Discus Madness" is very apropos. Also a great selection of plecos, corydoras and angelfish--the most extensive collection I've seen. Furthermore, a lot of niche fish, too, only familiar to ardent collectors / hobbyists. In fact, I'd say, this is the erudite fish enthusiast's fish store. To give you an even further impression of how highly I think of this store-- most of my aquarium's stock I've bought from here. Along with Global Fish Co (the new kid on the block), I'd put Discus Madness in my top two best fish stores in Northern NJ.

Needed a new place to order my fish from as Yunite (great supplier and are missed) left the business. Ordered a batch of German Blue Rams from Mathias. Received an extra. Was told by Mathias these acclimate well. I've been in the fish hobby over 45 years but quite involved over the last 5 or 6 as a local breeder of Discus and GBR's. Not only did these fish acclimate well.... They were eating right away. They all found their "territory" right away and within 24 hours one pair bred and now I have unexpected wigglers. Within 48 hours 3 more pairs formed. Out of 9, 4 pairs now I need to move the extra.. when Mathias told me they acclimate well I had no idea as I've never seen rams acclimate this way.. I'm sure I've found my new supplier for Rams and DIscus as I would not buy anywhere else at this point!! Thanks Mathias Steve
