Bought koi from these yoyos, like an idiot I poured some of the water from bag into my tank with the fish I bought. Not only did those fish die, but the fish I've had in the tank for 3 years all died. I went back with fish I bought & girl working tells me with a smile on her face, (sorry no returns on fish from outside.) She tells me there's a sign out there stating that. We walk out there & sure enough there's the sign, right behind the lattice on the wall were u can't read it. I would never have bought fish from some one who doesn't stand behind them. So 400 dollars worth of dead koi later I've learned a lesson about buying fish from the fish store.

I prefer to support my local businesses whenever possible, so I took a trip to The Fish Store today with plans to buy several hundred dollars worth of equipment and supplies. Upon walking in the door, I said "hi" to the 3 twenty something employees sitting at the front counter. They looked up, said nothing, and proceeded to ignore me for the next 10 minutes I walked around the store. I was the only customer there, and only stayed as long as I did out of morbid curiosity. Needless to say I won't be back.

Every time that I've been in, the couple behind the counter have taken the time to answer all of my questions and help me out. Despite the fact that I changed my mind a half dozen times on purchases, they patiently worked with me to find exactly what I needed. Rather than getting annoyed with my excessive frugality, the woman here was able to show me some remarkably inexpensive solutions to fit my aquarium. They didn't even frown at me when one of my children climbed their display and dunked his arms in the tank while try to catch a parrot fish. Great selection, healthy fish, and somehow they manage to stay cheaper than Petco, at least on everything I've compared so far.

The good thing about this shop is the selection of fish and products. Sometimes a bit pricey but can find good deals here and there. Customer service is a hit and miss, sometimes il leave pleasantly confident with my purchases, other times left wondering if my fish is even healthy enough to be buying.

Took my sons (9 & 11 yrs old) to redeem his summer reading voucher for a free $4 fish. We looked around for a few minutes and a very nice woman asked us if we needed any help. She was very knowledgeable about the fish and talked to my boys for a few minutes. My son selected the fish he wanted and we bought a few extra items (decoration, food, water conditioner, pebbles) and left the store extremely satisfied. It is good to know that this local business supports child literacy by giving coupons for free fish. We will definitely be returning to get more supplies and fish.

Me and my daughter visiting the store I have had fish before and was pretty educated on it but I've been out for so long I needed re educated that's why I went to the fish store because years ago I've been to the fish store and it was a great place to go to buy fish get fish and they quarantine their fish before they sell the fish so you're not going to get sick they new what fish hurt other fish and snails and stuff all the things that I need to know the medicine the water purifiers all that stuff that I can't remember now..... but definitely was not impressed they asked if they could help us we first said no we're just going to look at the fish right now but thank you later I seen the tanks against the wall on the Shelf asked about the 30 gallon or 29 gallon tank and if they had a low profile one he wasn't getting what I was asking I reset it has like you know a wide TV not a regular TV size. Still wasn't getting what I was trying to get a crossed I'm not very good at explaining stuff sometimes but I thought there was only two kinds of Tanks you know the regular type that is square and low profile I chuckled and said okay thank you well we got done looking at the fish pretty much knew what we'd like but had another question for the only salesmen that was out and wanting to help out of the 3 people in the store maybe it was his training and they just let him go by himself not help him I don't know. But we asked about the LED lighting paired to the old fluorescent lighting has the effect on the fish like the neon fish on how it made the fish glow if it was better either way he did not answer the question he went on about this and that and how the lightning is the water clear I didn't ask that so bluntly asked how long have you worked here he said about a week I circled and one of the other employees behind the desk said yeah he's new well we were near the front door so we said thank you. I headed out the door not one word from the two other two employees behind the counter.........well sir are you sure you don't have anymore questions or something that we might be able to help you with nothing nada...... or maybe answer the question that they both stood there and listened to the new employee not be able to answer I'm not saying I was going to spend $1,000 that day but eventually they were going to get $1,000 out of me Fish are expensive to keep up and living I know this from experience of having as pets before. Well I looked up on the internet to see if there was any other fish stores in Lincoln it looks like Fish World here I come wish me luck cuz I'm not going to spend that kind of money unless I can get reducated so I can keep my fish healthy yes I know $1,000 is a drop in the bucket for fish as pets but I'm cheap I remember when you can go down there and the owner was in the store every once in awhile I thought I weekend as well but maybe he's only there on the day the week I don't know I wish there was a way he could tell me to come back and he would help me because it's like 3 blocks away from my new place Pier to Fish World which is 2 miles without putting information here like my phone number oh well like I said life's not fair everybody knows that if they don't wake up

:UPDATE: 90% loss, only 1 tetra left after just 4 days, clearly sold us a bunch of sick fish, will be visiting them for a refund, will post on what their response is, if they can earn some stars here: Kind of unhelpful and/or rude employees that seem annoyed when you ask them a question. The store is much brighter and cleaner/open than it used to be back in the day, still a large selection of fish, still cool rare fish to see there at crazy prices. But when all you're getting is a school of 10 tetras, a 50% survival rate kind of pisses me off. I'm an experienced freshwater aquarist, and I haven't lost a new fish from anywhere else in quite a while. First time I had been to fish store in years so I thought it was worth a chance, guess not. 1 floundered in the bag during a 10 minute drive home, and I had 4 more gone then next morning. Hoping the survival rate doesn't drop below 50%... all I have is 5 tetras left from them. And again I'm pissed that they seem to have a bad habit of leaving dead fish to float in tanks, and they're in my eyes responsible for 15 bucks of lost tetras. You gotta take corpses out, I know the one one in the tank from my tetras was a gourami or something, and shouldn't have afflicted my fish, but apparently something has, and now I'm stuck quarantining until the deaths stop. Pretty pissed fish store, pretty pissed. Looks like lazy fish keeping to me with that kind of success rate. For example, my school of 12 other tetras in a different tank has been perfect with zero deaths from Fish World, please go there instead, he can order anything you might find at fish store, except it will be a higher standard of quality, and is properly cared for before being sold. I'll never make another purchase from the fish store, very dissappointed... Go to Fish World instead, better business

GREAT STORE! Wife and I stopped by about noon on tues the 16th of Aug 2016. We didn't leave w any fish as we are constantly on the hunt for different, rare and oddball fish and didn't find anything to our liking or that we didn't or hadn't already had. That said, we live near North platte NE and have hauled fish on 4 to 8+ hr drives home numerous times. We are constantly checking out fish stores every chance we get between Kansas city, Omaha, lincoln and Denver. In all my travels I have never seen A store where EVERY TANK was crystal clear and beautiful. If I lived closer this place would be my go-to. I've seen em all and was impressed to say the least at the cleanliness and health of the fish and extremely reasonable prices. My only regret is I didn't take time to talk to the owners. Again, from A lover and addict of the hobby, this is A GREAT STORE!

This is a nice place and I got a really nice coral colony at a great price. The selection is not near as large as the stores I go to in Omaha. But when I'm in Lincoln I'll make sure to stop here and bring a 5 gallon bucket with me.

Been coming to this store since the 70's. I have to say that it is a shadow of it's former self from back when Gary owned it in the 70's and 80's and up to about 93'. Gary had a passion for fish keeping and was enthusiastic and knowledgeable. The guy running the store now lacks that passion. He doesn't come across as a fish lover, more like someone who got stuck with running the store. I've also found he isn't well versed in all things related to aquariums. If you want someone truly knowledgeable, I would suggest talking to John at Fish World(a former employee of Gary's). As far as the store itself, they have a good selection of fish and supplies(for Lincoln). The prices seem to be reasonable. As far as fish health, it's not like when Gary owned it. I typically see ich in a couple of the tanks but my main complaint would be that many of the fish are emaciated. I'm not talking about newly acquired fish, but ones that have been there for weeks. Feed your fish! Again, Fish World has them beat in regards to health. Also, I know that over the last several years, I've heard many complaints from acquaintances that they give very little credit for trade-ins for locally raised fish. Even fish they carry, they want to give less than wholesale prices. If you don't want to support your local breeders, don't expect them to support you. If you are looking to trade in fish and want someone who is fair, try AJ's Reptarium on Cornhusker Hwy. Fish World won't give you squat, either.

Stopped in to look at supplies for a desk based aquarium and to see their selection of betta fish. Staff there were extremely helpful and helped point out all the things they recommended I get to help give my betta a good home. Answered all my questions and were very friendly. Prices also were extremely reasonable to me and many at or below for the same product found on Amazon. Just got some basic supplies but am looking forward to going back in to pick out a betta once my tank is ready.

I have never had any trouble getting help when I needed it, but they don't mob you when you walk in the door. Classic LFS, good quality, healthy fish, really nice rotation of stock, happy to fairly trade. I will say that some of the staff is more knowledgeable than others, but that's to be expected.

Very nice store overall. All the fish/ tanks looked beautiful and well kept. Very nice selection. I will say I was a little disappointed in the betta display. A few of the bettas were COVERED in velvet and lethargic. If they kept the bettas as well as the rest of the store I would say 10/10 for sure.

This store is seriously amazing,I bought my betta fish from them and all the other betta fish that were still in their containers where lively,the colors were vibrant they just looked very healthy. My only slight complaint is that the employees weren't very friendly they weren't rude either though but over all pretty good

I am a frequent shopper here and have had nothing but excellent service! I love their selection and their staff is knowledgeable. I have purchased fish from PetCo, both fresh and saltwater, and every time I've added a PetCo fish my tank has become diseased and I've lost dozens of fish. This never happens when I stick to The Fish Store fish. I'm in the process of getting a koi pond going, and I know where I'll be going to purchase my fish.

I've had aquariums for thirty years and they have always had the most selection of fish and most exotic (besides Nebraska Tropical, which is long gone). Every tank is clean as can be and in prestine condition. All fish are always healthy and vibrant. Store is bright and clean. Staff friendly and very knowledgeable. I go here often with no intention of buying anything just because it is so clean with beautiful fish.
