Been here twice. The food is good, great variety, and the building itself is large and spacious. They have a small store to buy items including food, cute whatnots, hunting gear and guns. They also have a steak restuarant if you dont want to eat off the buffet. They have an outdoor sit and eat area with a bar too. It's nice but you smell all the animals. They have other outdoor venues like a petting farm. Mr. Lex over in the hunting area is really nice and knowledgeable. My only negative is some of the people who work out front are not at all friendly and helpful, and unless you're white, dont expect much (I'll leave that right there).

We always try to stop here on our way through town. Great food and atmosphere. We sit on the outside patio and order from the dinner menu. We haven't had the buffet nor taken the safari to see the animals. We usually get there too late for the safari. We love going through their country store and seeing the animals. Fun for every age but a definite must see for kids!

I have been there twice in one week. The good - Buffet, General store, Farmer's market and Safari/petting zoo was great on Saturday. Enjoyed the whole experience. The bad - Went last night to try the burger and onion rings. Asked for medium well but got well burnt. It was dry and tasteless. The onion rings we're a bit greasy as well. May need to just stick with the buffet. After that burger, I'd hate to see what you do to a steak.

We had such a great day at McClains! Took our children on an exotic animal safari, which they loved! We were given extra buckets of feed for the animals, so we had plenty to give out. The water buffalo seemed to be the hungriest, but were gentle in their requests for being fed. We went to the petting zoo and fed everything from miniature horses and cows, to a camel

My brother was visiting from Texas, so we decided to give McClain's a try. Every employee we met was friendly as well as helpful. The waitress met our needs but was not intrusive. We ordered the buffet, and the food was well-prepared. My brother loved the meatloaf, and I thought the cheesecake was scrumptious. As a side note, I tried the locally produced honey. It is delicious.

Fun afternoon. The "safari" is fun and there are a lot of animals to see and feed, but basically it is a wagon attached to a tractor riding around a couple of pastures looking at unusual animals. All the staff we encountered were well trained and personable. The buffet restaurant offered good food and lots of it! I do not believe the desserts were homemade, but the rest seemed to be freshly cooked. The general store and farmers market were also nice, but as far out as it is from from the city we will not be going often.

We had heard about this place for a long time, so while visiting friends in Brookhaven we decided to make a day trip to there. We looked around for a while and my wife and I decided to take the safari tour. We really enjoyed it and the closeness of the animal encounters was very cool. Our friends we were with made us all a 4:30 reservation at the steak house. The atmosphere was good, the appetizers were great and the food was great, with one exception. My wife’s filet was about 1/3 fat. It was also kind of strangely shaped, more of a flat V shape than a hockey puck shape. After about 2 bites she decided to put it to the side. We did tell our waitress about it and the chef came out later to talk to us. He mentioned something about the end of the of the cut being the reason it was more fatty. I understood what he was saying but I had never had a filet of that configuration before. He offered my wife a replacement but we didn’t want another steak at that late of a point in our meal so we told him we’d just take it home for our pups. My wife did get her dessert comped which was nice of them. When it was time to wrap it up both our friends and us requested our leftovers boxed up to take home. Our friends’ meals were boxed up individually but ours never came. When we inquired about it we understood that the waitress didn’t understand we wanted the mostly whole $28 dollar filet and the mostly uneaten macaroni and cheese to take home. That was probably the most disappointing part of the meal. Normally I leave %20 for good service but being as how I lost most of a $28 dollar filet a I could have treated my pups with at the least, I only left %10. Overall it was a great visit but if we make it back there I’ll make sure I specify a real filet and reiterate, again, that we want the leftovers. This is a great day trip destination for a family. There’s a petting zoo and the safari tour. There’s a cool gift shop and a farmer’s market right beside it. One thing I wasn’t aware of is the Outfitter section where they sell firearms and knives. A SilencerShop kiosk was also an interesting surprise. This is a great spot to visit even if it’s a bit of a drive for you.

Clean, service was horrible. We were seated but then nobody ever came to wait on us. We ate buffet which was just ok. We had to ask for something to drink, when the server did arrive she said, sorry I was doing something else. SMH, I chose to eat here, I would figure we should of had a server. Simply amazing resort. There are different variety of animals to see, like zebras, long horns and buffaloes. They offer tour rides in case you want to site see from a distance. They offer outdoor activities and comfortable rocking chairs for outdoor seating. Must visit in person. Words can't fo this place justice. The food and waitress staff are simply amazing.

Nice environment, open, with a real upper class lodge vibe. A decent selection of items on their buffet. Their side items were alright but lacked flavor, a little more seasoning would have been nice. The grilled chicken was the best item, tender with a good flavor. The turkey and ribs were also pretty good. There also have a nice country market in the front of the restaurant. It’s a neat place for sure.

Just for the buffet good food but a little short on choices and the service was slow. As for the general store very nice and great service. The gun store was very nice and very helpful, showed us several different guns and was quite knowledgeable on everything I asked about. The bar is nice and has a large selection offerings. Didn't get to take in all the rest that will be next trip.

Wonderful staff and good down home eating! Their farmers market is genuinely fresh and they have a tavern plus a bakery along with a couple more attractions that are well worth the visit. Take a Sunday and go spend it at this place! You'll need a whole day! There's alot to check out!

My friend and I met for lunch and had such a good meal. I had the grilled chicken sandwich and onion rings. My friend had the burger and side salad. The onion rings were some of the best I have ever had. The grilled chicken was very good. I ate half of my sandwich and some onion rings. I would have loved a cup of soup but the only choice was a chicken sausage gumbo and I do not care for the recipe. It was a dissapointment that their was not more than one soup to choose from. My friend said her burger was the best burger she had ever had and ate all of it minus the the top bun. She usually only eats half. We enjoyed the atmosphere of the restaurant and the store. It smelled like they were baking bread while we were there. On my way out we went through the bakery and bought cookies and beautiful muffins to take home. I also bought a big chunk of the Red Rind Cheddar Cheese. My home is 45 miles away from McClain's but I will go back. This is a very nice place to eat. I have been to the seafood buffet as well. Some items were delicious and some flops like the hush puppies which were not done and were very heavy. The salad bar was good. The turnip greens tasted like they were just reheated and I expected better. The green beans were really good . The deserts tasted commercially prepared which is really disappointing considering the beautiful bakery out front. There were no sugar free items that night. We asked our server to check if they were out or maybe had some in the back to bring out. She said she didn't know why but they didn't have any.

I don't have a lot of experience with McClain but their hamburger is very good as are their onion rings. I was planning on leaving a bit on my plate, but that plan fell through. When you walk in you're in something like a gift shop that also happens to be a meat market and a pie shop. The filets looked good in the case. We ate in the tavern which is the bar, and it was a nice atmosphere and the bartender was friendly and responsive.

We've been meaning to try this place. We stopped by to try some supper. It was all ok, but not really all that good. Most of the food was under-seasoned, everything that was fried (which is about half) was too greasy like the oil temperature was too low. Our server was great. Very nice and checked with us frequently. We may go back for an animal safari, but we'll eat somewhere else.

Just ate there tonight. Got 2 salads, 2 biscuit, 2 filets, a water and a sweet tea for $62. Steaks were raw and had no seasoning what do ever. Offered us only a free dessert in response to meat being totally awful! Do not waste your time going here. Absolutely not worth it

The location itself has lots to offer. I can't comment on the quality of the restaurant, but I did like the general layout of the farmer's market and general store. I like the mixed-use concept. The kids enjoyed the property. I felt the pricing for the activities added up quickly for the fall festivities and didn't amount to the value those dollars might get elsewhere. Overall, I might come back and evaluate the restaurant, but don't plan on purchasing the additional activities.

We took some out of town friends today. The safari was well worth it, although make sure you buy the feed. The animals come right to the truck to get fed. 4 stars My son loves the animals in the general store. 3 stars We usually eat the buffet, which is good if you like country cooking. Tonight we went to the steak house and it was a mistake. There was one other table yet it still took close to an hour to get out steaks. Mine was very over cooked. The manager did replace it with a more appropriately cooked steak. But the quality of the meat is not worth the price. If you are looking for a really good steak, go to one of the other nice steak restaurants in the area. 1 star But if you are looking for a unique experience, I recommend going.

Went in for breakfast today 06/20/2018! Let's just say it didn't go well, Waffle House here I come! I just wasted 30 minutes! They say it was a big party before me. 5 people is not big, 10 is !!! How long does it take to prepare 2 biscuits and gravy and a side of bacon? Breakfast is the easiest quickest meal to prepare. Do better!! I want be back! You been open now long enough to handle the people who come in to dine with you!

We were seated promptly but it took over 10 minutes for waitress to come by our table. She told us to get in line for buffet. We told her we wanted to order off the menu. Took another 10 minutes to get menus. When waitress finally came to take our order she did not have a pen. After another 30 minutes another employee came by our table and asked if we needed anything, we just asked for our food. Hostess came by then and she sent manager over. He told us we could get something off the buffet while we waited for our meal. We just told them no thank you and to cancel our order. We left. 45 minutes seems like to long to wait for our meal. I hope in time they will figure things out and be more customer friendly. Probably won’t try this place again.

This place is a big boon to this area and is only half a mile from the house, so we go pretty often. Really good fried chicken pretty much every day, plus at least one other entree choice, along with fresh vegetables and sides. There is also a nice salad bar and plenty of choices for dessert. It is much more than just a buffet restaurant, and has fresh meat, provides special order cuts along with general store items. Bring the kids to see the wild animals.

The kids really enjoyed the view & even in this MS heat it wasn't uncomfortable sitting outside on the covered, screened in porch thanks to the fans they've put up. I picked up some delicious jams & syrup too. The gift shop has some great items you won't find anywhere else.

Wow! What a beautiful location! I recently went there on mother's day to celebrate and enjoy they buffet that they offer there! The wait to get to the buffet was quite long and a but disorganized.. I don't think it was because of the increase in customer I just think it was the lack of communication from the employees to management.. I felt like they should have been able to prepare for that alot better.. the food was delicious and definitely fresh, but yet again they had not prepared for that many people some of the items I had to return to to the line to get once they had some more come out.. but as far as the food is was beyond good! Definitely seasoned great! While we were there we decided to do the petting exhibit which made the whole location completely different from anywhere else! You were able to pet and feed a wide variety of animals! I highly recommend checking this place out!

We went to the steak house. My husband ordered steak, grits and fries. The steak was dry and almost burnt on the outside, grits were thick and had no seasoning. I got shrimp and grits. It tasted like red beans and rice out of a box, and maybe with my food I expected more because a lot of my family is from south Louisiana. But you expect to have a nice meal when it costs $90 for 2 people. The only thing that was good was some cheese dip with pork rinds. It also took forever to get our food. I would go to long horn any day and me and my husband eat for $45-50 any day.

McClain lodge is a great new place to try around Flowood. I’ve been to the buffet, the steakhouse and the bar and all the food has been great. The buffet has a nice selection of country food, but I wouldn’t go right after church cause it’s packed. The steakhouse has one of the best NY strip steaks I’ve had around here the only thing is it doesn’t come with any sides but you do get a small salad.

Good food, lots of it, and the facility is astounding. The animals are neat, but they looked especially hot when we were there in June.

This was my 3rd visit to McLain's. The building is really nice. I keep trying to be impressed. But I'm not. I have tried the buffet twice. The chicken was chewy, the fish was terrible. Food was just not great. This is not worth $25. The burger ordered from the menu was burned. Not likely to return.

After a number of enjoyable meals there, today's buffet was a disappointment. I was thinking on the 4th of July you would have something special. Arriving at 1130 to beat the crowd, I surprised that If a person doesn't like chicken, his option was a hot dog, which I could have had at home and saved quite a bit. Later around 12 after we had finished up, you put out some pulled pork. Guess the moral of the story is dont come before 12.

Wasn't to impressed with the buffet on Sunday, was told we couldn't order off the menu, no waitress or waiter for about 15 minutes found out we could've ordered off the menu. Wouldn't recommend going on sundays..

My wife and I discovered this amazing place after moving to the area about a year ago. It's a bit hard to describe because there is so much good stuff here... it is MUCH more than general store and restaurant. They have an animal safari you can ride through which has both exotic and domestic animals, a petting zoo, a farmers market, a lodge where you can have events like weddings and retreats with guestrooms, kitchen etc., they have a small gun and hunting store, a small women's boutique, an awesome butcher shop and bakery and our favorites... the restaurants. We go to their country style buffet at least twice a month and their steakhouse and tavern are also great. By the way, the food they serve from vegetables to beef/ chicken / pork are all raised on the McClain spread, making the food just like you would get at your grandmothers house! My scales at home show how much I love eating at McClain unfortunately. In any case, it is hard to compact all the great experiences we have had this past year going to McClain. Our family loves this place as well due to many family events during the holidays. This is the place to go for any reason you can think of.

Great buffett The bbq chicken was a little dry The turnip geens werr a bit too salty as were the black eye peas. The okra and lima beans were great. The salad bar was fresh. The frued chicken was juicy and tasty. Souvenir cup is huge. Tea smooth.

From the star rating I expected better. The buffet not enough variety. Food mostly good. I wouldn't recommend yet. And more decorations are needed. It's full of nothing but wood everywhere add a little beauty.

A very unique establishment. Inside it reminds me of a cross between Cracker Barrel and Bass Pro Shop. The service was cheerful and attentive. There's a lot there I didn't get a chance to check out. The buffet was home style cooking and good but ordinary.

I recommend this restaurant to anyone looking for a great meal every part of the restaurant is amazing the staff all running around helping busy cleaning taking care of the customers needs Buffet Buffet is extraordinary good. Don't forget about the General Store and the petting zoo or the Safari that is located on the backside of the building. And if you're on a budget you can come here and have a very good decent home cooked meal for a low price I recommend this two thumbs up

Just wow! Great gifts and food market. Huge place, weekend buffet. Spiraled hams available for purchase looked amazing, fair prices. Happy hour in the interior bar (with TVs) discount on our wine till 6 or so I believe. You should call to confirm. The road there was being re-asphaulted so give yourself extra time. We were there Dec17, 2018

I've eaten here twice and I've got to say, both times were enjoyable. The second time, however, I could tell the staff was under an immense amount of stress from management. Management was obviously watching very closely. Regardless, the food, both times, and the service was fantastic and I would definitely visit again.

Great place to spend half a day or more. We had lunch, shopped, visited with the employees and owner. Some of us went on the safari. But all of us had a outstanding time. And the rain did not slow us down. Great place.
