As you know, we don't usually bother to put tatings when these are positive and we usually do it only if we've had a problem or issue...
This Fish Shop is classified in the category of Fish & chips restaurant.
The Best Fish and Chips in Minnesota. Period. Anchor Fish and Chips is a must visit if you're in the Twin Cities and enjoy Fish and Chips. Grab a Cold Beer. Fish and Chips (With Tartar sauce is my personal opinion.) And an Order of their Poutine and you won't leave disappointed. Seating is comfortable and Service is amazing. Anchor Fish and Chips is truly one of the best restaurants in the Twin Cities.
Probably better than most...actually...all fish and chips I ate in England during my time there for a year. Probably because England really doesn’t have, for the most part, great food, it’s a land where most people enjoy instant coffee, so this was a refreshing place to be, and happy they were Irish any way, so hope they forgave me of asking for malted vinegar, but the white vinegar was much tastier any way. Great service, the waiter was such a solid, and great big chunk of fish. Batter was crunchy and fluffy, not too greasy, not too over whelming, perfect ratio of fish to batter, and the chips were fabulous as well, crunchy and meaty. Yum, will be back and be sharing the spot with all my friends!
my boyfriend took me here for my birthday and it was soooooo delicious.
Cozy and satisfying bar food
This place has the best fish and chips probably in the world definitely in Minnesota. Macs has nothing on it whatsoever. Always wild caught Alaskan cod in a light crispy batter cooked to a delicious golden crisp inside of grass fed beef fat. If you dont like fish they have grass fed beef burgers. There brunch they use cage free organic eggs. Does it really get better then this? They are the "real deal.*
Large portions! The fish was great not over cooked! And the fries... Will go back when in town
Great food, good prices.
Excellent! The fish and chips.are just like what we enjoyed when we lived in England
Husband and son said this was the best fish and chips they’ve ever had. My daughter had the veggie burger it was also delicious. I had the toasty minus the ham. I did not care for it. It was very greasy. Friendly service. Nice location in the art district. Outside seating. Very reasonable.
My favorite place in the Twins for fish and chips. It beats the others hands down every time. Nice size filets not too heavily breaded or greasy. Great fresh flavor and even better with tartar sauce and a side of mushy peas.
Love the food and service. Fun place to eat before Latte Da performance.
Love the grass fed free range beef, and the Irish cheese ❤❗
Tasty food, fun vibe and great service.
Great fish and chips. Small place but worth it if there is a wait. Awesome comfort food. All made fresh feet from your seat
It's small and mighty. Don't tell anyone, but the shepherd's pie is a homey trip and the Arnie Palmers are on point. Fabulous fish and chips as well. Go. Don't think- just go!
Best place for fish and chips in town you can't beat it and one of the best pores of Guinness to
Wonderful fish and chips joint. Great wait staff, comfy booths and ambiance. Poutine was fantastic but pan on sharing with the table!
Best fish and chips in the midwest. Possibly in the US.
Best fish and chips in the metro hands down! Great service, friendly staff. Been here many times over the last five years and they consistently deliver great food and atmosphere. Never had a bad experience. They also offer Take Away!
Great service and great food.
Great food. Delicious Irish Stew and of course, the fish and chips were superb, but expect them to be greasy. That didn't stop my friend from sneaking most of my chips! They don't take reservations so expect significant wait time at standard meal times. Go early! It's worth it!
Even the burgers here are really good
Went on a Sunday afternoon at 2 and no wait, lots of tables available. Not a huge selection of food, but that’s because that’s the whole point: you’re supposed to get fish and chips and it’s AMAZING. Breading is crispy. nice music and atmosphere as well. Also, when my fish came, it was a huge piece but (apparently) smaller than usual, she put in another piece for us! Cheers!
Don't do fish and chips to go. Extremely soggy, and I only live down the street.
Excellent food every time! Cool, subdued atmosphere with a very friendly and courteous staff - which is strangely hard to find in NE Minneapolis.
Great fish and chips!
Best fish and chips around. Hands down
Fun place to be. Small interior. Quick service. Sit at the bar and see them prep the fresh fish and deep fry it before your eyes. Served piping hot. Can get very busy.
The best service hands down and such a welcoming group of employees. The fish and chips were the best I’ve found here in MN and an authentic Black and Tan beer topped off our experience. Highly recommend. Street parking was easy and abundant.
Kinda spendy, however. The service was really good!
Friendly staff and excellent food. They do mostly one thing and they do it quickly and well.
The fish and chips are fantastic. The breading is fresh, crispy, and flavorful and perfectly salty. The cod inside is juicy and flaky. The cod could have used a little bit more flavor inside but the breading and sauce made up for that. Chips also very crispy and fresh. Wish they had malt vinegar or a stronger vinegar at the table though. Would definitely go back
It was cozy and the food was great!
Amazing!!! All the way from Jersey and this place was fantastic. The fish and chips were LIFE!
A Northeast favorite for sure. You can't go wrong with anything here. Grab a Guinness while you wait for a seat to open up and enjoy.
Great fish. Reasonable price. Fun atmosphere.
We were there on a Thursday night but it was packed. The staffs were extremely nice and helpful. Very nice and vibrant atmosphere. Fish and chips are spot on. Love the flavor and the crunchiness of the batter and the fries. Definitely recommend if you have chance to visit the city.
This is was a good place for lunch! We had the fish and chips, grilled cheese, and poutine! The service was good, it was an easy to get a seat, the restaurant had good decor and the waitress was nice! I did get a picture of one of the cooks and truly feel like he embodied the feel of the place with his sea captain style beard. The fish was very well done and deep fried well leaving a good amount of moisture in the fish with a great crunchy exterior!
Our first experience was really bad. We were really looking forward to our brunch the place was packed but the server seemed really odd. She was forcing us to sit in this tiny spot where there was hardly any room. We requested to sit at the tall tables that had two chairs, but she would not accommodate us saying that she is saving that for a party of 3-4 if someone was to come in!? Really?! There are only two chairs over there lady!! We were really disappointed with how we were treated so decided to walk out. She had no regrets and really seemed happy about it, since they were packed. Way to lose business!
Food was delicious! And they had a great beer selection!
Service was fast and friendly on a random Saturday afternoon. We ordered a grilled cheese and chips for the kiddo - it had white cheddar or something similar that wasnt a melty, goey cheese. It didn't go over well with the kiddo but I thought it was tasty. I had the poutine - which was a fantastic twist to the original. Generous amounts of cheese curds and delicious sauce. Tried a bite of fish from the fish and chips and the breading had amazing seasoning!
One of the best fish and chips in town.
Fish and chips were good. Shepards pie and poutine was very salty, which is why I gave 3.5-4 stars
Unique place. Good food. I'd definitely go back.
Can't beat the prices and quality of the fish. Service is a little slow but the food comes out quickly. It's a little weird they charge for tarter sauce but everything is so reasonable it doesn't matter. The fries aren't outstanding but the fish is what you're coming for.
Authentic English food, big portions, reasonable prices. Nice decor and atmosphere.
I'll be generous & go with a 3. Prices are ok, chips were good. Fish, not so much. I'm feeling a little Gordon here, but if your fish goes a little off because of the crazy polar vortex & no sales, don't serve it. Take the loss instead of losing customers. I had to roll my windows down halfway home with my takeaway. I had heard so many good things, but I'll stick with my neighborhood pub. Still, the chips not under the fish were good. Hope it's a fluke.
Best fish and chips in Minnesota! Great service, confident location, and the best tartar sauce we've ever had.
All the food we ordered was amazing. Even the fries are great. Regular food menu, but cooked to perfection. Get the fish or the burger. And the poutine! Yum!
Absolutely the best fish and chips hands down in twin cities
We have ordered everything on the menu, it's all good. Beer selection could use a few more locals, but there's something for most tastes on the list.
All I can say is wow! Fantastic fish and chips and love love this place.
I moved to MN from England 5 years ago and am always missing the food. I enjoyed the atmosphere and the customer service here. Shepherd's Pie and the fish were definitely on point but the pastywas a little disappointing because it wasn't the authentic pie-like pasty I'm used to. We got here just as they opened and I'm glad because they get very busy!
Delicious food, excellent service, fair prices given the portion sizes.
Root beer plus fish and chips is my go to. The music here and the overall ambiance is awesome. Definitely worth the wait.
Great food. $$
Never really liked fish much until I came here. Love this place and it's still one of my favorite places to visit in Northeast
Awesome restaurant. To go orders are super fast, you call in and by the time you arrive it is ready.
Best fish and chips period.
If you want a real Fish & Chip experience look no further then here. This place was delicious and amazing. Staff was attentive and kept the ball moving in this crowded place. Space is at a premium here, so expect a wait.
Great Irish food!!
The food is amazing. Fish & chips is where it's at. Not to mention the service was incredible. Such great, friendly staff. Definitely recommend.
Great food amazing place but you have to arrive early because you have to do a line
Best fish and chips in town! Simple menu with variety for everyone. Get there early because this place fills up fast.
After waiting nearly a half hour For the restaurant to open at 4 PM I was informed that I couldn’t be seated unless my whole party was there. It was only my girlfriend and I and I felt this was ridiculous since they were going to place us at a table for two anyways. The hostess referred me to either the manager or the owner (his name was Rob) to see if he would allow me to be seated. So I asked him and he went on a lecture about people lying to him all the time and then the party never does show up. So I asked him could I just be seated and that I would like a table? He said sure but if somebody else shows up I will not allow them to sit with you. This is where he went over the top of being rude and ridiculous. I’m calling for all to boycott this place he doesn’t deserve to be in business.
Huge portion of fish, and excellent fries. I loved the mushy peas and dipping the fries in curry sauce. Try their breakfast too! The full whack is a great variety of Irish breakfast food.
The Anchor Fish and Chips is my go to place for my fish and chips cravings. I love light and crunch the batter is. The chips are great too. I also like how consistently good their food is whether it is at the restaurant or from their food truck. The staff is very friendly and helpful. I love coming here whenever I can.
The food here is fantastic. Small specialized menu. Don't have many options, but are good at what they do. Limited drink selection; beer and wine only. Cozy place and you will likely have a wait. Definitely check it out.
Always the best full whack in town as well as the best fish and chips I've ever had.
It's the seafood equivalent of Matt's bar. Instead of a juicy Lucy, you'll get some awesome fish n chips. First time but it won't be the last. Aside from the wait, and sitting at the bar, pretty darned good experience.
Great food, great service, comfortable pub atmosphere, good prices.
The Anchor never fails us... This is one of our favorite restaurants. The fish and chips is the star, but the rest of the menu is great too. The cozy atmosphere is super fun. Great for a date, or a family dinner. I recommend The Anchor!
Anchor has great fish and chips. The price is a good for what you get. One big piece with some fries. No complaints but I'd prefer an option that had one more piece.
It comes in one big piece there's no taste to it at all I was hoping there'd be at least three pieces .very greasy french fries and fish everything tasted the same like they cooked it all together grease taste, it was a pretty good oil change on us.Yuck
This is one of my favorite places in the Twin Cities. You really can't go wrong with the fish and chips obviously...its incredible, but...their Burger is absolutely perfect. Seriously, try it.
The food and atmosphere are grand, but even more, this was the best *coffee* I had in Minneapolis.
Great hole in the wall. Favorite place to eat in Northeast. Classic fish n chips will never disappoint.
If you like fish n chips with a (real beer) Guinness, then this is a MUST GO for you! They can get very busy on weekends so plan ahead or try an off peak time!
Best fish and chips anywhere and the owners are lovely people.
Fried Alaskan Fishfry was good, not to fried and lots of cod. The salmon special was very good, cheesy, and was a generous portion. The waitor was great and nice (good mustache). We went in a little later and their was no wait. I would come again.
Love the fish and chips.
Great food, excellent service.
Best fish & chips in the Twin Cities. They also know how to pour a perfect pint of Guinness. I value that highly. Top notch, every time.
Like most others, the four of us came for their legendary fish and chips. They have other Irish fare stuff on the menu but who cares. The fish and chips are the best I've ever had, no contest. The slab of nicely crusted cod is huge and it basically melts in your mouth. Our Irish waitress, Siobhan, was friendly and efficient. (look up the Irish name Siobhan on the web. Interesting history) We were hoping to see the infamous cat "socks" but had to settle for a photo Siobhan showed us. But in spite of 'sock's' no show we left very satisfied. I only wish that I had this place near where I live on the east coast.
This Cozy pub will have your mouth salivating, their fish is the best in town.
Good... Cod. I was looking for walleye... but still, very good
Quant northeast bar. Best fish and chips this side of the pond. Usually very busy but we got right in. Quick service.
fish and chips were great, nice little neighborhood spot for some good eats
I’ve ordered food here multiple times to take home. It’s always been great. Not tonight. The food was so greasy the paper looked soaking wet. Put it in the oven and it’s dripping grease as if I ran it under the faucet and totally fowl. I wasted $27, my night, and I’m without dinner.
Fantastic! AJ was our bartender and did a great job. We had fish & chips and no one does it better! We are big fans of Kathryn & Jenny's team. Jill also helped in our great dining experience - she's awesome! We'll be back!
This place is amazing and absolutely worth the wait! The fish and chips are delicious and the beer list is great. Be sure to stop by and get your name on the list - I’m sure you’ll be back again!
We absolutely LOVE AF&C but they’re losing their ability to cook well. We ordered food to go, got it home, and it was literally a package of grease. Everything was a sloppy mess. The amount of money they’re charging should amount to more than limp fries and a pasty that’s more liquid than solid. Not going back anytime soon.
Really cosy place & delicious fish & chips
Great service, and friendly staff. The atmosphere was very comfortable. We sat at the bar for a little while waiting for a table, and the staff was very hospitable. The fish and chips were delicious, and the gravy was really good!
Best fish and chips I've had. Fast friendly service. Could use malt vinegar. We will be back!
This place was amazing. The fish and chips were outstanding. It felt euphoric eating the food. The Guiness on tap is poured perfectly. The people that appear to be the owners definitely care about their clientele and Irene was a really solid server. She is friendly and welcoming, definitely will be coming back.
The only time I have ever had an issue was a finding a hair on my fish. They took care of it right away and still remained super friendly. Great fish and chips. Staff is welcoming.
Best English breakfast this side of the Atlantic. Proper Heinz baked beans, true bacon and the best homemade potato cake that can honestly beat the store ones back home!! We came up here for a wedding and my husband found this place for me. Being British and rarely going home I always look for opportunities to try the American version of my favourite foods and this did not disappoint. I cannot wait to come back and try the fish and chips. This will be made into a regular place to eat every time we come up here now. I seriously cannot rave about this place enough!! Besides the food our waitress was also super wonderful. Great experience overall. Definitely go visit this place.
Long waits (25+ minutes) to be seated, but the food is worth it. Get the fish & chips, with a Guinness. Or try a shepherd's pie. But eat it there. UK-style fish & chips doesn't travel well, or at least that has been my experience both abroad & at the anchor. The one time we couldn't wait for a table, we ordered "to go". Even eating in the car was disappointing, since the chips got soggy & the fish breading stuck to the paper. So plan for the wait, & go with someone you enjoy conversation with. You won't be sorry when you finally eat.
Old person haven. The food is average and the vibe is chilled 70s. I am glad I got to experience this place but overall not a winner for millennials or families. If you have one child you can make it work. You can also deep fry cod in pancko with coconut oil and add sweet potato fries for a more rewarding experience. If I can out cook you then you have a problem going forward. Old people love places like this.
Feels like you have gone across the pond to an authentic pub! Fish and chips was amazing, light crispy batter, not too heavy. The fries are all fresh potatoes, not too soft when cooked. They have a nice crisp texture. The atmosphere is great! Highly recommend.
Best fish & chips in town! Can be crowded.
My daughter and son-in-law lived in the area for several years. We went to The Anchor for my birthday, and since then I come back every birthday! The fish and batter is just perfect! The only thing changed, I would add malt vinegar to the menu. Plain vinegar just doesn't taste the same. ( I bring my own malt vinegar in my purse. Shhhh)
Had a wonderful time! My husband searched all over Ireland to find the same quality fish and chips but couldn't. Great atmosphere, friendly prompt service.
This is the best fish and chips I've had in the US.
Best fish n chips this side of the Atlantic!
Praise the sun this place has the best fish and chips and lovely staff!
Great food, often a wait to be seated, but worth the wait
Some of the best fish n chips around! Large portion sizes make their meals shareable as well. The meat pastie and Shepard's pie are also favorites.
They have the best fish and chips. I have yet to find any place even close to the Anchor. The staff is very friendly and the price point is excellent. Wish they were open before 4 pm. Because it’s an intimate setting and they offer great food, you can expect a long wait on Friday’s and Saturday’s.
They've got a very clear traditional British chippery vibe going on. Everything about the appearance is spot on. But I have a couple complaints about the food: I ordered poutine and it seemed like the cheese curds had come straight out of the fridge (I'd like them to be warm by frying or some other means) and my friend ordered fish and chips and said they were bland. Given another opportunity, I would go back to try it again. Maybe my experience was a one-off. But for a first experience, it was very underwhelming for the hype and reviews.
Best fish and chips in the cities for me. I'm sure they have other food here, but I don't know why you'd get anything else.
The best fish and chips this English man has had in Minnesota.
Service was excellent. Fish n chips? Meh. Poutine was meh. Atmosphere was fine, the space is kinda small though.
The best fish and chips in the twin cities. It’s often busy so be prepared to wait. Worth noting that they will not seat incomplete parties. I understand this policy because it’s such a small place but, not my favorite policy.
Easily the best fish and chips in the city!
Great food with a nice selection of some local brews.
Definitely not the fish n chips I had in Ireland, but this is the closest I’ve had so far!! Customer service was amazing, if I lived closer I’d eat here once a week, definitely will be back.
Food was ok. Not great. Had the fish and chips and paid $.50 extra for tartar sauce which to me tasted like straight up mayonnaise. Would not go back.
My fiance and I happened upon this little hole in the wall restraunt last night and we loved it. The waiter was super nice and helpful in telling us what has popular and what he liked. Since we went later in the evening and it was a Wednesday night it was busy but not packed. We were seated right away and the wait for service and food was surprisingly short. My fiance got the fish and chips while I got the meat pastie and chips. The pastie was good but I had a small bite of the fish my fiance got and I can say next time we go I am going to get the fish and chips. It was all filling and my fiance said it was one of the best fish and chips he has had. Only wished we lived a bit closer so we could get take away from there. We both are looking forward to our next trip to The Anchor though.
Best tartar sauce I've ever had.
I want to be clear. I have never actually set foot in the Anchor. However, I was working with some people nearby, and they ordered carryout from there for us, two days in a row. Someone else went to pick it up. The fish and chips was so wonderful I had to write a review. Flavorful without being overwhelming. Crispy yet soft. I'm not a huge fish person but it was amazing. Only downside was it was a bit on the greasy side. A friend got the burger and I tried a bite. It tasted like a very good homemade burger. Personally, when I get a burger from a restaurant, I prefer it to taste like a restaurant burger, as opposed to homemade. The second day I tried the Shepard's Pie, it was good, and filling, but not quite as flavorful as I'd hoped. If we go back again, I'm getting the fish again. And again.
Incredibly good fish and chips and coleslaw. Try the curry sauce with the chips!
Fish was great but got a half portion. Everyone around me had twice or more as much fish while I paid full price for a very very small piece. The server took a double take and did nothing. I had to ask for another piece and then paid full price for it as well. Awful management that allows servers to see stuff but they are not able to correct it. Place has gone from a 5 to 0 based on recent experience.
Great food, enjoyed night out with my son his fiance and her mom. LOVED IT!!!
Found this place on Google by accident, saw fish and chips and gave it a try. AMAZING. Had the burger and tried the fish too, highly recommend this joint.
Best fish and chips hands down in Minneapolis! Not even a debate! If you haven't tried this place yet, you are definitely missing out! The location is in a peaceful neighborhood too north of Minneapolis!
Some of the BEST fish and chips!
Fish and chips was AMAZING. This is a very cozy little restaurant that has a fun atmosphere. Only downsides are limited seating - even so, we were sat after about 10 minutes of waiting - and service was a little slow. Food was fast, but waving someone down to take our credit card took awhile.
Great service on the best fish and chips in town.
classic. delicious. fresh. loved it. all you need is some vinegar and you're set.
Perfect food and service as usual.
If there are better fish and chips anywhere in MN, I'm all ears. To me, this is as good as it gets. I recommend finding a friend and ordering fish and chips and a shepherd's pie to split. Be aware of long wait times, especially if you are in a group of 3+, as this is a very small restaurant.
Best fish n' hips in the cities I've had. Bartenders know how to pour a proper half & half.
We love Anchor. It is a go-to place for our family, for great British pub fare. Unassuming locale and ambiance, excellent, reliable service.
Great service, great food, nice old look bar
I believe this is the best place in the Twin Cities to get English style fish and chips. Normally I don't like tartar sauce, but theirs is delicious. It's worth the 50 cents extra. Their curry and gravy are also excellent dipping sauces. The non-fish menu items are pretty good but not as good as the fish. The interior is fairly small and groups will likely need to wait for a table. However, they do a lot of take-away business so you can order ahead and take your fish elsewhere (Dangerous Man a block away is an excellent place to eat fish and drink craft beer). The parking lot is also a little small; street parking isn't bad since there is a lot near the intersection. The staff are friendly and willing to answer questions.
Place has great fish & chips. Well worth the wait (small place w/ limited seating).
Great Fish and a really gracious host that made us feel like family, thanks Tara!!;^)
The Anchor has a great pub feel with a warm freindly staff that seems to enjoy each other. Guinness and fish and chips done right. No need to think to hard about it.
The food is delicious and the staff are friendly. Need to get there soon after they open or you may have a bit of a wait, they are very popular.
Best fish around. Met couple who were having a reveal dinner. Wrote about them in my weekly newspaper column.
The fish did not disappoint!
Great fish and chips (probably the best reason to go). We tried a few different things but the fish and chips are what made to convert from a 4 (good food) to a 5 (excellent food)
What can go wrong with something as simple as fish and chips? Mine was cooked well. This small, cozy place has a real neighborhood-restaurant feel. The service was friendly and efficient.
The best fish & chips in town. Small and crowded especially on Fridays during Lent. No reservations.
Great place for fish and chips! Love the relaxed pubby vibe. Grab a Guinness and the mushy peas are really nice too. Not a ton of seating, but it's an awesome place to stop into while up in Northeast near the nexus of super breweries.
Best fish n chips
Amazing food all around and a cozy atmosphere.
The ONLY place to go for fish & chips. Super friendly staff and cozy atmosphere.
Best fish and chips in the city! Proper batter, nice cuts of fish, and tasty fries. - Reviewed by a born and raised New Englander
Excellent fish & chips. Portions seemed to be smaller this visit. Good tap line.
A Minneapolis staple. Excellent fish & chips. I strongly recommend getting some to go & eating at Dangerous Man with a great beer.
Best fish and chips in town and great menu.
Lovely! Delicious food, attentive staff. Absolutely coming back!
I used to love this place, but it seems to have gone downhill. Overall hygiene of the kitchen staff was poor and I found a hair in my food.
Extremely good Fish & Chips. Very hot and crispy on very cold night
