The freshwater fish selection is great and if you don't see what you want John can usually get it in a very timely manner. All the staff make you feel welcome and important when helping you. I highly recommend Sea Level whether you're an experienced aquarist or a beginner setting up your first tank.

Instead of taking my money, Pete talked me out of buying fish because my ammonia levels were a little funky. He told me how to fix it, so I'll be back in a week for my fish.

We visited the store just to see what they had. The front has used aquariums and other things all laying around, makes the store look pretty junky. Move that stuff to the back! The fish look good, and we did buy some. Nice fish too. The customer service was good too. They just need to clean up the place a bit and get organized.

These guys know their stuff! They're very helpful and knowledgeable about what they do. One caveat: If you're stocking a tank from a big box store but see a special one here, don't buy it! Fish from big box places have weak immune systems that can't handle the healthy bacteria a Sea Level fish would introduce to your tank.

My husband love coming to this fish store. The owner has excellent customer service and is very knowledgeable. On Thursday night the owner wasn’t in, it was an older gentleman and young man. My husband and I walked in and we saw the older man not once did he acknowledge us and he saw us but didn’t say a word to us then we were waiting by the checkout counter and the older man saw us but walked away and we waited around 5 mins until the young man came up and helped us. I know he worked there because we came Wednesday night and again he was not so great with the service.

No matter how busy he's been he always takes time to thoroughly explain. Not to mention the fish. I've never been disappointed with what I've brought home. It was dark and while there were at least 2 people working and no customers, we were never approached by anyone. On the flip side, all the fish appeared healthy and of you already know what you're looking for, it would likely be a great place to buy fish.

Very knowledgeable and helpful. They do free proper water test and give great advise on how to solve water quality issues. They also have a great selection of fish which look healthy. The only reason I didn't give them 5 starts is because the plant tanks they have are infested with snails. I know first hand how difficult it is to get rid of snails if they are transplanted to a home aquarium with plants.

First time at Sea Level, went there as my friend recommended it to me. First impression was positive. Bought 9 fish right away. Then I had a problem with a couple of fish I bought, and even though the issue was handled, it was done in a manner I would not call "great customer service". And that is just over $19. John, I have a lot of respect for what you do, but I will not return. Life is too short to be wasted on negativity. As for me, this wonderful hobby, shouldn't have any... If you have different opinion, then you lost your passion... My advice to the owner: 1. Get rid of that "sales-jerk", who has bad manners mouth and enjoys talking behind customer's back. 2. Communicate your purchasing\return policies more effectively. 3. Do not treat every customer with an issue the same way.

The fish are cool. Kind of overwhelming at first. It's relatively dark, but I suppose thats to keep algae down. The front entrance area is a mess, not what I was expecting, and certainly makes you walk to the back where most of the fish are. What's really weird about the front is that there are birds to the right in cages behind a huge pile of junk. Also the employee only hallway is wide open so you can see more underlying problems.

Me and my wife drive 40 minutes to get to sea level because John does what it takes to keep you coming back. We had a broken tank cover on one of our bow front tanks and of course it's a special order from his vendor. He could of just ordered the cover and i would of been pleased but he went a step further and offered to borrow us a tank with a lid if we were concerned that some fish would try to escape while we wait for the cover to be delivered! My family has been coming to this store for the past couple of months, and we absolutely LOVE this place! Not only are the staff knowledgeable, but they are also fishkeepers themselves. Some of the in-store stock comes straight from their own tanks, from what I have heard. The staff is friendly, and extremely helpful. I have read previous reviews that complain that the store is not child-friendly, which is understandable. The space is pretty packed and kind of small, but if you are able to keep your kids in check, there should be no issues. I have a very handsy 3yo, and a curious 11yo, and the staff has NEVER been rude or snarky about my kids when we come in. I keep my toddler firmly strapped into a stroller, and out of reach of everything by moving the stroller into a wider space, careful to leave room for other customers. I keep my kid busy with videos or snacks, and have never had an issue, so I call BS on the staff having issues with the kids. Also, it's not a kid store, so they don't have to figure ways to keep everyone else's kids out of trouble. John, the owner, is awesome to talk to. My hubby loves going there just to talk to him, mostly about the science aspect of fish keeping, which works great for me because I can focus on getting tanks and fish and decor without having to wrap my brain around all of the details beyond chemical tests and water changes ha ha! Fair prices, and a wide selection. This is our #1 go-to shop for all things aquatic! Even the staff at Petco recommend Sea Level, so that says a lot!

Freshwater Nano Aquascaper moved to Minnesota from Hong Kong. Owner ordered my unique requests and I never had 'hitch hikers'. Always a pleasant experience. I highly recommend Sea Level as opposed to other shops seem to be more disease and algae ridden. Things purchased: unique mosses and low to moderate light plants, shrimp, endlers, tetras, variety of snails (nirite, assassin, etc), ottos, SAE, foods, ferts, substrate, etc. They also have a decent amount of driftwood, stones and decor (though I brought my own from HK). Edit: Other places (like Aqualand treated me with disrespect (of a sexual harassment nature) - Sea level always had professionalism and is the only place I will shop in the future)

Extremely friendly staff, and John went above and beyond in helping me out with getting some lighting working. The tanks here are pristine, I think I looked at just about every fish, and not a one looked sick. No masses of algae or waste on the substrate. They also have very good deals on used equipment - from tanks, stands, filters, heaters, lights - they have it all. New items are competitively priced, I bought a name brand replacement 4' T5 bulb cheaper than what the big box pet stores offer. If you are on this side of town and new to the hobby, stop by and see the staff here, they know their stuff.

I love this place so much better then Petco or Petsmart the fish are actually alive and healthy. I have known of them for 1 year now and they really are the best for fish and information. Really nice selection of freshwater fish and friendly staff. Thank and fish have all seemed clean when I have browsed their selection and I've been happy with the angelfish, Bolivian rams, blue ram, and golden bristlenose I purchased there. Twice now I have went there for specific fish that I couldn't find at other stops and they had perfect example of what I wanted. Good store to have on your regular stops.

One of the best fish stores in Minnesota, the staff (all of them!) are great and very knowledgeable. They are great with recommendations and I've never overheard them trying to sell fish that are inappropriate for a given tank size. The tanks are all incredibly clean, healthy fish and they have a great stock of used tanks as well. Hands down a must go to if you are into aquariums.

Owner is fantastic. Livestock is always healthy, worth the price for sure. Great plant tanks, too. Hardware is even fairly priced. Also sells used hardware at bargain prices and will take both used hardware or unwanted fish in exchange for store credit.

Wow. What a great, clean aquarium store. The marine stock is lackluster, but what does exist is quite good. Excellent stock of tropical fish, plants, equipment, and accessories. I will definitely be back.
