What a fun place to go for the afternoon just to look at all the great fish, reptiles, birds and plants. We always find a little something that we need and the girls feed the large fish in the pond. It's educational and it doesn't cost anything just to look.

This place is amazing. Lots of different animals. There's a "river" inside containing huge fish (you can feed the fish too). Nice selection of products. Saltwater and freshwater tanks. Furry animals, reptiles, birds and so on.

This is the only place to go for pets the owners are so nice I have now them for meny of years Rick and I remember his Dad all thay way back wine thay was in Hazlet that have no that thay have moved 4 times over the years but this family ran are good people and good to all the animals in the store and very if you're having a problem they'll be there to help you out.

Preuss Pets is a staple and a must-see attraction in Lansing! I mainly go there for their bird room. I used to take my old cockatiel there to get his wings and nails clipped. He absolutely loved everyone there, and they always did a wonderful job even though he could be a little... feisty to say the least. I recently purchased another cockatiel from them, a female, and she is so sweet! Warmed up to us very quickly. She was rather pricey compared to other places, but she is vet checked, absolutely gorgeous, and perfectly temperamented. Their fish tanks are always very clean and very well-stocked. I personally think they tend to talk people out of buying fish, but in the end, they're really only doing what is best for the animal and the person in the long run. This store is very hit or miss with prices. For instance: bird toys are ridiculously expensive, but bird grooming is dirt cheap. Zumpreme pellets are pricey, but house blend feed is super affordable! Etc etc. You just need to know what you're looking for and shop around. The amazing staff, wide variety of items, and well-bred animals greatly make up for the extra few bucks you may spend.

Really knowledgeable and kind hearted employees. Ive been here a few times for building a little 5 gallon fish tank and I love the knowledge base I can ask around for. Recently I've had the urge to consider getting a snake. A nice lady showed me around and I asked from the very first step of getting into building a tank to maintenance and care of housing a snake. I loved it and loved the selection of snakes and reptiles available. Guessing on the number of tags stating the new arrivals of snakes I'd have to say that snakes probably come and go quite quickly at Preuss. Fair to higher than average prices overall for products and materials for the animals.

This is the best pet store in Michigan and probably farther. I've been doing business with them for more than 40 years before their first location burned. That was a sad day. They have such a great and knowledgeable staff and their store looks incredible oh, the animals are very well taken care of. Thank you Rick preuss. These people are so amazing. They take such great care of there animals, they are all healthy and happy unlike some other pet stores. You can all so call them and ask them any questions about any animal and they will have advice and solutions even to some exotic animals they will have a specialist talk to you. My family some just to see the animals sometimes because its almost like a zoo for the little ones. I have gotten 1 betta and a leopard gecko form them and they are both still happy and healthy.

I love Preuss!! I would make the hour and a half drive from home just to go there. You could easily spend all day (and all your money) in that store. And the workers really know their stuff, so they're always so helpful. Definitely recommend a visit, even if you don't have any pets!

When you visit, you'll see a number of families with kids who are there just to look at the animals, and the employees generally seem not to mind either. You will never find another store with people who care this much about their animals and education. They promote responsible pet ownership and respect for animals on a level that is just unheard of. Rick, Debbie, and Kirbay are absolute gems. They inspired me to take my hobbies further and continue to advance the bird, fish, reptile, and small.animal hobbies as a whole. I miss living near the store. It's an awesome destination. Not many stores have a functional river running through them, or 1000 gallon display tanks with massive reefs. They breed their own fish, corals, and even small pets. Go there. Enjoy it. Learn. Support them.

I have had a most four aquariums running at once, but currently only have two and I almost exclusively shop at Pruess. The employees I've experienced are always helpful and friendly. Unlike other places, I've never experienced an employee who makes me feel stupid for asking questions or not knowing exactly what they're talking about. They take insanely good care of their fish. The only mark against them is price. You can almost always find the same product cheaper on amazon, so it comes down to how you want to invest your money. Do you want to supply overlord Amazon with more money, or do you want to support your local Lansing business and family? I find the few extra bucks worth it to buy local from good people personally. Also, since I was wondering this before, Pruess Pets (at the time of writing this review) will take unwanted fish. I had to downgrade my aquarium but didn't know what to do with the fish. Pruess said they can take them off my hands.

Love love love this place! They truly care for the creatures in house and value those who walk through the doors. Excellent customer service, and great selection of all sorts of goodies for your babies! Floors are always clean, or as clean as they can be, as they do get a lil wet when cleaning the tanks. Regardless, even if you're just looking for a way to kill time or something to do with your kiddos, this is the place! Plus it's dog friendly!

2800+ reviews is a rather predictable trend...this store is AWESOME! THIS is what I expect from a pet store. They have many outstanding exhibits including: dart frogs, saltwater reef, freshwater planted, and bird exhibits. The upkeep on this facility alone is astounding! Everything is clean and pristine. If I owned my own pet store, this is how I would want it to be run. Each department has their own specialists that are knowledgeable and eager to help you make the right choices. I drove an hour and a half to get here and wasnt disappointed.

If you want to know about pets, I give Preuss Pets five stars easily. Maddy, who works at Preuss Pets, spent almost an entire hour with my daughter and I. She is incredibly knowledgeable about aquarium setup and maintenance. My 75-gallon tank is shown in the picture I added to this post. I have to condition the water and buildup its good bacteria. Maddy said in about 14 days, and I could start to add beautiful fish. I will buy them here!

By far the coolest pet store I've been to. They have a lot of different animals spiders, snakes, birds, tortoises, frogs, fresh and salt water fish. Staff answered questions and were friendly. Did I mention they have a koi pond inside and out. Fun to go to even if not looking for a new addition to your family.

Great place to get animals, feeders, and supplies! They have knowledgeable staff, all of which own many pets themselves. I get feeder insects for my bearded dragon there. A little pricey but that's expected for roaches. However, sometimes when we ask questions we've gotten different answers from different staff members. There must just be various correct ways to care for animals.

This place is awesome. My son asks to go here every family outing to see the birds, fish and spiders. Aside from the animals, the products are great and the staff will do anything they can to try to help answer your questions. It gets a bit cramped and there isnt really an easy way to bring a little one in there since there aren't any carts that a carseat can sit in or room for any kind of stroller except maybe the umbrella ones.

Yesterday I visited Preuss Pets for the first time, primarily to consider adopting a parrot. Emma was so helpful and knowledgeable. I was given time to visit with a few different birds in a private area. Emma answered all of my questions and really helped me to narrow down which kind of parrot I might like best. Then she showed me a variety of supplies that would be excellent for my current pet bird. It was a fantastic experience. The birds are loved and well-cared for. I am looking forward to visiting again in the near future.

You can feed the koi fish for $1 whitch is unique and fun for the kids. Best place to go for pets, stuff decor for terrariums, food for your pets and overall just looking around at the different pets they have. I have a snake and axolotl and needed to change my snake over to a bigger tank. Preuss Pets has used tanks for cheap. We got our 55 Gallon for $40 and all we had to do was glue down one seal and clean it. Highly recommend this place.

I visited to help brainstorm about how to get rid of algae growing in my 70 gallon freshwater tank and I got wonderful feedback from the staff and got all my questions answered. It was challenging because I can’t use algaecide because of my snails and shrimp but they helped me regardless and now I’m confident I’ll be able to get my algae problem under control safely within a week. Huge place. Love the amount of variety they have fresh and saltwater. Only thing? Fish prices are so so so expensive. Most fish raised here so that should lower the cost however I got sticker shock on so many fish and stock items. They really need to adjust their retail for simple fish like a tiger barb. Usually 2.49 selling here for $7.99 or 9.99 a piece. Wow!! I won't but fish here at those prices.

Brought my little boy in to buy a leopard gecko. Tiffany, the young lady who helped us through the entire process, was nothing short of amazing. She was so patient and helpful withbour many questions helping make the addition to our family a lot of fun and confident in making sure we had everything we needed to give our new lizard a happy home. This place is amazing. Lots of items to look at for your pets. There is a stream inside the store with live fish you can feed. Staff is friendly and knowledgeable. Owner took us on a tour of his breeding room, which was amazing to see. If you love your pet come and check out this place. From cats,dogs, birds, reptiles, rodents and fish you will find something to make your pet happy. We will deffently come back here to buy our live plants for our fish tank. Owner Rick was knowledgeable, helpful and friendly.

Good place to get any other their essential needs. Like food, treats, beds, and more. Not a place to go to adopt a cat or dog because they never have them there. But pretty much anything else you can imagine to adopt would be there. Also great place and all but very humid and stuffy in there.
