The Dish and Dram is a wonderful little restaurant in Kensington that my husband and I love to visit. We recently had a backyard wedding and asked The Dish & Dram to cater our event. From the very first note it was a pleasure working with Davis, the General Manager. He was incredibly responsive, thorough, and worked with us on every detail to make sure we and our guests had everything we wanted for our special day. Everyone raved about the food and despite our order involving a variety of meals from the lunch, dinner, and kids menus everything was exactly how we ordered it. We look forward to visiting often!

Great for brunch, but we went recently went on Valentine’s Day and had an awful experience. Nothing had much flavor or was cooked well and three of the things we ordered they were out of. Maybe this would be more understandable if they hadn’t created a specific Valentine’s menu that you had to order from and they hadn’t known how many reservations they had for weeks before service. We recently moved to Kensington, and I can say with confidence that we won’t return for dinner. They do have a good brunch though. So if you aren’t going to dinner I would recommend brunch or drinks.

We went there when they were still at the soft opening stage. I think the potential is great but they have several things to work out. The staff seemed inexperienced, not paying attention to the customers for long periods of time while the restaurant was half full. The food took a really really long time and, while the cocktails are classic and good, they're not very unique or interesting. My partner's food was good but my steak was crazy oversalted. I had waited too long at that point to send it back. I am posting this for feedback because I think that once the kinks get worked out, it will be a great restaurant.

This is in the historic Kensington neighborhood around the corner from the Kensington Marc train station and next to Johnson's Garden store. It is recently opened and takes the place of a former deli. The menu include fish, beef, poultry and vegetarian entrees. The soups are quite tasty, particularly the coconut curry soup. It is a nice place for adults. Though there is no particular dress code, most men were in jackets the night I was there.

Review is based on attempted take out order. Ignored by bar staff while trying to order takeout. Waited patiently until it was evident that basic hospitality would not take place. I have been to far busier restaurants and have always been acknowledged in a timely fashion where staff establishes expectation of service. Service was disappointing.

After dining at a different restaurant in Kensington, my husband and I drove around town for a few minutes. We drove past the Dish and Dram and decided to stop in for a cocktail. We were surprised to find this lovely, small restaurant in a town we thought we knew! Their list of craft cocktails is eclectic. I had a gin and tonic, husband had the French 75. Both were delicious. Event though we were full from dinner, the neighboring table's shrimp appetizer looked and smelled wonderful. Next time we'll eat there.

Such a lovely little out of the way spot. We went for brunch and had the shrimp and grits, the burger and the buscuits and gravy. It was all AMAZING!! There wasn't a crumb left behind. It has a neat little neighbood vibe and the staff was knowledgeable and lovely.

First visit, salad had too much dressing and too little of other noted ingredients. Second visit, soup had more broth than content. Menu needs some overview for healthy options. Staff seem nice but not very attentive to detail on one visit and a bit cocky on the other. Kensington needs this type of place so I hope they will maybe stop cutting corners and review staff training.

An absolutely lovely restaurant, The Dish & Dram has a superb menu; warm welcoming and present staff; and the space is easily managed. There is a wide range to what is offered in terms of palate and cost. Each offering was good, as in rock solid deliciously good. My husband ordered a beer and I had drink made. The food pairings were excellent. The noise level was entirely manageable. The place was well lit in the ways that good restaurants are.

We had a remarkable experience at The Dish and Dram last night (early on election night). I don't usually post recommendations, but I highly recommend that you go see why the Washington Post recently called The Dish and Dram the "model neighborhood restaurant." However, I will quibble on the critic calling it good, but not too good. We thought it was excellent. Our drinks and food were extremely well executed, enjoyable and on-par with some of the so-called destination restaurants we've been to in DC. Our dishes were both inventive and comforting---and down right delicious. And the company? The staff and patrons immediately made us feel like we had finally found our Cheers---one for people who love good food and wine, too. Thanks, guys! We'll be back!

The food is excellent, and the servers are very polite and helpful. There is a large seating area in the back, out of view from the front window, so it can seem quite crowded from outside, but still have no wait for a table. The menu is a little pricey, but the food and experience are high quality, making for a wonderful night out.

This is a charming little local restaurant that is working hard on achieving its aspirations of being a fine dining establishment. I would have given it solid 4, based on the freshness of ingredients and earnestness of preparation, but for a strange incident. We had ordered the duck nachos appetizer, which arrived with ketchup on it. Unmistakable, syrupy-sweet, tangy ketchup. We tried to eat it, but frankly, it was revolting. I mentioned the problem to our server, who took the dish to the back and offered to replace it with the charred Spanish octopus. Mistakes happen, and we would have gone on with our meal, but! The Manager brought over a small serving dish of BBQ sauce, and suggested that perhaps we were mistaken and it had been this on the nachos? "She doesn't even have ketchup at her station," he insisted. Seriously, man? We know what ketchup tastes like, and it has no place on any kind of nachos. Neither does BBQ sauce, but that was not what we had been served. The octopus was delicious, despite a lingering aftertaste of contempt and ketchup.

Happy to have just discovered this local gem. It's in the same category as nearby Frankly Pizza for the family-friendly atmosphere and nice selection of beers from the greater DMV area. Have only eaten here twice now but so far we have only praise for the food. Next time we plan to feast on appetizers as they sounded delicious. Decent kids menu too.

I can't write too much about The Dish and Dram, or else everyone else will find out how great it is. The menu was printed for the weekend and had nothing but fresh ingredients. The atmosphere was a mix of upper end modern, with cozy coffee scene. Our server was super attentive, and when I had my eighth (!) cup of coffee, was more than happy to let me linger, even though she could have pushed me out just to turn over the table. I could have stayed for lunch and eaten my way through what looked to be an outstanding menu. I could have stayed late and drank quite a few of the quality bourbons and scotches they had on multiple shelves. I could tell you more about The Dish and Dram, but then everyone else would know about it...

Delicious! Excellent atmosphere, service, and exceptional food. Our table shared 4 starter's. Octopus, calamari, bacon wrapped oysters, and latkes. All perfectly cooked. I had the scallops and they were perfect. My daughter had the pimento, fried green tomato cheeseburger and it was cooked perfectly med rare. She said the fries were the best she ever tasted. A really good meal, and really laid back vibe. Definitely try the deserts. Can't wait to go back!

Went to Dish & Dram's New Year's eve special dinner, featuring prime rib carving station and raw oysters. This is our go-to neighborhood favorite, but has gotten crowded due to rave reviews. Fantastic cocktails and local beers, creative kitchen and attentive servers.
