We need a harbor fish market in NY. We were traveling in a group of 4 and decided to stay in and cook dinner one night. It doesn't get easier than that. We don't have to decide what to eat, and there is no wait. We got (10)1 and 1/8 lobsters at $5.49/lb. That is a steal! Spent approx. 62 bucks on 10 lobsters that fed 4 girls. NOT BAD AT ALL. We steamed it 7 minutes and it came out perfectly. The lobster meat was tender and smooth and can tell the lobster was soo fresh. I would go back for the lobster.

I truly enjoy places like Harbor Fish Market. Everyone is passionate about what they do and they have fantastic customer service. When you walk in, you'll see a long counter with dozens of different fish to choose from. To your left, you see lobster tanks with kickin' Maine lobsters. You'll also see a ton of buckets of oysters where you can pick and choose different types and take popsicle sticks with the type of oyster on it to give to the counter. On the right hand side are freezers where you can grab prepared food like calamari, crab cakes, etc. I was able to pick and choose what butterfish I wanted and the kind gentleman behind the counter helped to pack my fish in a to go box with a reusable icepack. I cannot wait to come back and see what's in stock!

All and all its a great seafood market, probably the best in Portland. But beware dont assume everything is fresh, you have to check it out before they wrap it up. In the past 2 years there were 4 times I've got haddock that was not up to their usual standards (1 of those times was 10 pounds for a special family dinner) but i have probably been there 120 times in my adult life. I still go and will continue

My daughter and I made our very first trip to Portland, Me the week of Oct 17, 2018. One of our stops was the Harbor Fish Market. The employees were so friendly and helpful. We bought a few items, but then wanted to have some shipped home. Alice suggested we wait until we get home and order on line, that way we are guaranteed to be here when it arrives. I am so glad we did. We received our shipment the day after we ordered it. and had family over to share it. The lobster and the oysters we ordered were the most delicious we have ever had. We loved it so much we are going to be ordering again. Thank you Harbor Fish Market, you are awesome. We will be making a trip next year with more family members and we are all so excited to visit you again.

You can't get seafood any fresher than this. The boats are unloaded from the Harbor to the back door. The people are very helpful and will offer suggestions to help you. If you want more ideas for how to prepare a variety of fresh seafood they published a great cookbook that has a section, Fish 101, that provides good information on the handling and preparation of seafood and about 90 pages of recipes. This business was established in the 1800's and has been owned by the same family since 1966. If you're looking for a great seafood market you can't go wrong here.

Just bought 10 hardshell pound lobsters here and at least three out of the 10 or stone cold dead like dead for a little while if they are giving lobsters to people like this you know they are cooking the lobster is that they give to you cooked dead I wouldn’t get lobsters from here again

When we came, the daily special was scallops for $15.99 a pound, which is way cheaper than what they typically go for, at least in Cambridge. We also got some sushi grade tuna and a 60g tray of uni for $9.99. The uni tasted buttery and fresh. The man behind the counter was also extremely helpful and steered us away from buying the overpriced lobster. They gave us a styrofoam box and ice for the trip back home, and everything was still cold hours later. Would make the trip to Portland just to come back here!

He then let the inquisitive child with smiling parents in tow, today some of the clawed water insects into the tank. It lit up the entire market. We sampled some smoked salmon, and bought it. The prices seemed fair and the staff was just the best. Check it out!

Third time I’ve gotten fish from this place and third time some of the batch smelled spoiled and looked off color. Cooked them up and I was right , tasted like purée!! Disgusting, ruined it for us. Batch that was good was actually good, but you’re paying too much to be rolling the dice. Guess it’s my fault for giving them another chance. Selling things that are not shellfish or salmon is not this place’s specialty. For a place right next to the water with “fish” in its middle name, it’s very disappointing.

So this place is awsome, right on the docks, fresh lobster at a great price along with other seafood. Great assortment of oysters as well. I highly recommend going here for your fresh seafood needs. Staff did a great job of answering questions and were keeping the place clean while everyone was shopping. Parking is limited and the shop is a little tight but they get you taken care of really quick. They also ship seafood to you throughout the U.S. haven't tried that part yet but I do have the info. If I am ever back in the area I will stop in again.

Harbor Fish Market is a local landmark. It is associated with a wholesale operation, and has consistently very fresh and well priced fish and shellfish. As an example I recently purchased beautiful and absolutely fresh sushi grade yellow fin tuna on sale at about $14 a pound. Unlike some other places in the area, sushi grade here means exactly what it says. They sometimes even have uni, sea urchin roe, for sale at ridiculously low prices. Their selection of oyters is incredible, but pricey, selling at a one price per any oyster of between $1.45 and $1.70, depending on the market. Also check out the local rope grown Bangs Island mussels. They sold by the two pound sack, tagged with the date of harvest. Recently got some that had been harvested the day before, and they were spectacular. I've had them almost a week old too, and they were still delicious. And, of course, they have live lobsters in tanks. These are not the sad looking, slow moving, half dead things that you might find in your supermarket or even the local lobster pounds in the off season. They are dark, fast moving creatures that are very much alive and very tasty. They will steam them for you on request. They also sell lobster meat.

I highly recommend Harbor Fish Market. Their seafood is always very fresh and the employees are professional. My only complaint is that I found a worm in my fresh haddock. Apparently, parasites are commonly found in fish in nature, so this can happen for haddock and cod. Although, it was unsettling to find a worm in my fish. Please inspect the fish better in the future. Other than this hiccup, I do still recommend Harbor Fish and I will return.

Got a $110 gift certificate for Christmas. Tried to order $56 worth of product on line. Could not get the order to go through after many tries. Finally called and was advised I had to put in a credit card number as well as a gift card number even if the amount ordered was less than the amount on the gift card. I advised the service rep that it was not made clear on the website that both was needed. She said she knew but nothing she could do about it. I advised she could advise management as the current system resulted in a very poor custermer interaction. Turns out my total order was $135, so shipping was more than half the value of the gift card. Moral of the story, Harbor Fish Market may have a good product (will have to wait upon my order's arrival to verify), and their prices in their retail store may be competitive, but they are DEFINITELY A POOR ON LINE VALUE. My advise, save your money and buy local. A $50 Red Lobster gift card would have been MUCH better.

Great place to get your seafood to bring home and cook up yourself especially if you're a local. The product is as fresh as you can get. Much better than your local supermarket. Prices are fair, not a steal. But I don't mind paying for freshness. The guys behind the fish counter are always professional and friendly. Only reason I'm not able to give them five stars is because everytime I have gone there which is allot, the girls at the cash register are not very outgoing. It's like you go from friendly clerk's behind the counter to a cashier who acts like she is bored out of her mind and really doesn't want to be bothered. They need to address that and once they do, I would give them 5 stars for sure. I'm a stickler when it comes to customer service and feeling that my business is appreciated. I doubt I'm the only person who feels this way when giving a company your business and money. Overall though, great place for fresh seafood no doubt about that.

Could probably get a tattoo of a haddock based on how much I've purchased from this market, but it's also always fun to stare at the overall selection and wish your horizons were wider. Jonah crab meat is often stocked, and I believe Sunday is their largest selection of whole fish. Laughing Bird shrimp, farm raised in Costa Rica, are also excellent for tacos and relatively inexpensive. They provide ice if you need it.
