Awesome gumbo, great prices, and fast service! We enjoyed our lunch so much we had to go back for a spot of gumbo later. The staff was very attentive and made our dining experience top notch. If you are in the area they are definitely worth a visit. This place was recommended to us by some friends who live locally.

Jacob Layton

Hungry and exhausted we stumbled our way into this spot. Little did we know, we would have a near religious experience with how delicious the food was. An explosion of flavors with each bite, leaving your mouth watering for the next! Ask for Tim, he is the real deal! 11 out of 2 would recommend.

Taryn 217

Delicious food, waiter was wonderful. It started to rain on the patio and we were promptly moved under an umbrella. The only downfall was the wafting smell of garbage.

eddie l.

This is the place to go when coming to town. I met up with some colleges buddies and one recommended this restaurant. The gumbo alone is worth it! Our waiter was phenomenal. Wonderful atmosphere and 5 star food. It was my first time here, but would definitely go again.

Victoria Poss

Amazing gumbo! Great food all the way around.. it is a must

Judy Tran

Get the WARM BROWNIE PIE. It was amazing. The right chocolate sauce on a fudgy brownie slab with a big scoop of vanilla ice cream. Heaven. The fresh fish creole was also amazing with blackened catfish still tender and juicy. Loved this place!

Jim Leich

Really loved our gumbo. Cool classic spot.

Jessica Sullivan

A bit on the pricey side, but worth it. The shrimp special was incredible and the bread is perhaps the best bit. Friendly staff and good service

Megumu Jansen

This food was amazing and I recommend it for anyone interested in having authentic Louisiana food. We tried the shrimp and chicken gumbo and they were both amazing. Also the alligator sausages were good.

Eve Aus

Walked in and was seated quickly. Then waited, and waited and waited for service. Michael was supposed to be serving me and he was stuffing around pretending to look busy. I asked one of the girls who seated me could I please order. Then a table which was seated after me had a server come to take their order so I left. Pathetic service and not reflective of all the other establishments I frequented in NO.

Michael Sniegowski

They have excellent food and service. And the food is not overpriced.

Monica Botero

From the smell to the plate, I loved it. Pretty good chicken andouille gumbo, amazing fresh bread and good drinks. If you're in New Orleans you need to try this place.

Jill Casey

We went for lunch, and it was definitely a highlight of our trip! All four of us absolutely loved our food! The atmosphere was very nice and the staff was friendly. Also, enjoyed our cocktails.

Wesley Peden

It's a great local restaurant, the atmosphere is wonderful. Our server was very nice and pleasant with us, the food was great and very filling. I got to sit where I could see a huge tapestry in front of me that stretched from wall to wall, it was really cool to see.

Richard Mullins

Good service and atmosphere, interesting and different flavors. Not everything was to our liking, but was well presented and well made.

Marvin Hall

Nice New Orleans restaurant..a little over priced...can see why tourist love...had all the foods city is known for...gumbo etc...dessert of pecan pie with ice cream was fantastic!!!

Paola P.

Really good gumbo. Authentic Creole flavor (according to my local companions).

charles garalis

I just love the Gumbo here. It's one of our regular stops when in town

Christina Kong

Staff was courteous and attentive. Food was good. Had a good selection of vegan options. Ordered the vegan gumbo with beans and greens and it was delicious. Would definitely come back.

Txbootsy Love

The gumbo was frozen and out of the can

Ashley Martinez

The Chicken and Andouille sausage gumbo was delicious! Added some gumbo shop hot sauce to turn up the heat a bit and it was a perfect compliment. Went twice the week I was there and it was packed both times.

Arlene Viera

Great service and staff, my waiter Juan took time to tell me about the Gumbo and blackened fish. He was very efficient. Loved the atmosphere and the food was delicious. There's also courtyard seating in a garden type set up.

F J

The waiter was being pushy, trying to sell me alcohol at lunch. Even after saying I dont want to drink alcohol, he insisted. Ended up just leaving. Go here if you want to be hustled. No clue if the food is any good, but the service is a 0/4 star.

justin miller

All I can say is delicious! The food is amazing and if you want to know you are eating true creole food, this is a must eat place in New Orleans. Enjoy!

kirk parker

Oh my Lord,we had 4 different appetisers to share and they were all amazing especially the crawfish etouffee, incredable! It was busy and noisy but I loved it and the staff were super efficient, didn't wait more than 5mins for the food. Will not disappoint.

Haley Gerardi

This was by far our favorite place to eat when we visited the city. My favorite meal from the entire trip was the dinner at the Gumbo Shop. My tastebuds died and went to heaven that night! The soon to be fiance featured in the photo is enjoying the alligator sausage!

Ali Adair

There is a very cute patio here which I'd recommend sitting in. Service and food were fine - good enough but nothing to wow you. I had the chicken gumbo, it was fine. Their beer prices were cheaper than other restaurants in town, which was appreciated.

gravyarms .

Excellent food and fine service. Our waitress Caitlyn was super friendly, informative, and helpful. Every single thing that we ordered was delicious. Appetizers, sides, entrees, and desserts. All of it. I cannot wait to return! It is now my favorite spot for gumbo and jambalaya. Their bread pudding was also wonderful. Their boudin and BBQ shrimp appetizers will not disappoint. I wish they had a larger beer selection on tap, but there are plenty of other options for those who want a drink. Plus, it is a restaurant and not a bar. The food exceeded expectations, and the service never lagged behind despite being relatively busy. I will be dreaming of this place until I can return. Do yourself a favor and eat here. If my experience is any indication, you will not be disappointed.

Kimberly Raburn

Jambalaya, seafood gumbo, chicken gumbo, and red beans and rice. All of these dishes were good. The chick gumbo and the red beans stood out for sure! Great service! App of the day was gator sausage/ yummy!

Olin W

Definitely the best gumbo I've ever had. Well worth waiting in line, the service was outstanding. Will absolutely visit again next time I come to New Orleans.

nick wheeler

best gumbo in NOLA? not sure... it's the only one I ate. BUT it was super good and I would say it's the best gumbo I've ever had. I also had their bloody mary and that was pretty good as well. I would definitely give it a go if you're in NOLA

Von Raelo Maryjane

Good environment, Good Service .. I didn't like my Seafood Gumbo. My seafood gumbo did not have any seafood in the gumbo.. A piece of crab claw without meat. Overall, never again

Rishi Deshpande

Great place for dining in French Quarter. What's really exciting is that they now have several vegetarian options to choose from. The service is outstanding as well.

Chanijay Designs

My husband and I decided to grab some gumbo while strolling through the awesome area! We enjoyed the atmosphere, great service and terrific food! We will come back on our next visit to New Orleans!

Ashley Havey

The traditional creole cuisine was delicious. Blackened fish, beans and rice, crab cakes, catfish St. Peter, and jambalaya were great! We enjoyed every bite! Would definitely recommend to friends.

Naseem Haq

A busy little restaurant with a seafood gumbo you can wait for. Have to wait to be seated and everyone in your party must be present to be seated. There were too many tables and chairs inside the restaurant and the table felt small for travellers that carry any bags/strollers/large camera/etc. Food arrived very quickly because the food is pre-cooked for the day. Shrimp creole was spicier than the seafood gumbo. Really enjoyed digging into the southern pecan pie with ice cream.

Charlene Taylor

I am just gonna put one star because I can’t put zero stars but it was my worst experience eating in New Orleans during my vacations. I read good reviews so I was confident about this place being a good place to have diner. But it turned out it’s just a basic restaurant expensive for tourists who don’t know anything about Cajun food. I ordered the blackened chicken which is was burnt. Nothing Cajun over there. I tried my husbands gumbo and it had no taste, poor seasoning. I just think it’s sad to advertise people with false creole food. Our waiter almost didn’t check on us and my husband mash potatoes came after we were done eating. But he didn’t really seemed to care. I usually don’t let bad reviews but I really want people especially tourists to try that kind of place if they want real Creole food. Plus it seems that the only answers given to the complaints is : ‘you should have talk to your waiter about it’ yeah we’ll if he was there I could have talk to him but as I said he wasn’t really around.

Nasiri Suzan

Setting and atmosphere had an older time feel to it. There was a long line and wait to get in, about an hour. The seafood gumbo was loaded with shrimp and absolutely delicious. It was hard to resist getting a bowl, but I wanted to taste some other dishes too. I had their special, red fish, crab and shrimp sauce on top. It didn't disappoint. Food was all outstanding. My only issue was the waiting for entry and then another wait for the Waiter to take my order, that's why they only got 4stars.

Dion Williams

I loved their chicken and andouille sausage gumbo. I don't eat seafood so I was happy to see they offered another option. I would definitely eat here again on my next visit.

Jeff and Teri Parker

Extremely fast service and fine recommendations by Brandon. Choose from A/C, courtyard or more intimate arched room. Gumbo and ettouffee were amazing. Crab cakes, deliciousness!

Josh Williamson

The food was delicious. Service a little slower than desirable. Certainly above par eatin' for the area

Moa Nyman

Initially, they made a good impression as we were a big group without a reservation and they still managed to seat us. From there on, however, the service was quite nonchalant and I didn't quite feel welcome. The were two vegan options, Gumbo or rice with beans. Since I never had Gumbo before I can't really say what it's "supposed" to taste like, and while I didn't think it was that bad I will not order it again.

Andrew Thornhill

If you are looking for out of this world gumbo this is it. Definitely get the complete Creole dinner. Lots of choices and superb food. The fluffiest most delectable bread pudding ever tasted. The staff is super knowledgeable about their food and available to answer any questions.

Chi Kao

新奧爾良深度遊: 4.5 stars for sure, the price is average. The food is about 4.5 stars as well. Overall, clean and good service, nice gumbo shop for chill after a day.

vianey roldan

Went to this wonderful restaurant and was worth the visit. The food was phenomenal, but the service was better. We had Brandon as our waiter and his service is unparalleled. Very courteous and his recommendations were great. Would go again!

Eric Marko

Food was average and service was terrible. Super slow and unpleasant, there are plenty of better restaurants in the area.

Mike Romero

Good but pricey for a small amount of Gumbo. Felt more general Louisiana food than Gumbo specialty. But what they did have was great. Had the Seafood Okra Gumbo and wasn't disappointed, just wish there was more.

keyon reynolds

The food was absolutely ridiculously delicious. However there was a wrong order placed and the waiter apologized. But for the time and wait- free dessert could have been a great apology instead.

Tammy Fayard

Love the place . My daughter and her girlfriend went there we took her mom and they are both from Florida they are veggie people lol . They got the gumbo they could accommodate them well. I was so pleased. Me well I of course got the good new Orleans food. Thanks We will be back .

Josh Callen

For a guy from Meat and Potatoes country this was a revelation. I would be 300 pounds if I lived down there... Shrimp Creole was my Favorite.. I would recommend the sampler and paying a little extra for the Crawfish substitute. good deal I walked a lot

Nicole Frasik

There may be a line, but it moves very quickly. Fresh bread is served complementary. On the other hand, this is also where I discovered I may not enjoy seafood as much as I thought, haha

Humberto Herrera

My first intro to Creole food. Good food. Try the gator sausage. You have earned your 5 starts. TY!

Brett Grzegorczyk

Great food. I liked the dinner, because I got to try a little of everything. It was more food than I needed, but it was good.

Schuyla Williams

Not sure why this is called the gumbo shop. More like the gumbo NOT! The okra and sausage gumbo were black and tasted weird and burnt and were the worst thing I've ever tasted! The chicken gumbo was more like a chowder with corn and potatoes in it. The etouffee, shrimp creole and jambalaya were all bland and more sauce than anything else. The only thing good was the crab cake the one star is for the crab cake. Dont waste your time!!

John Radziewicz

Great place for all that New Orleans food you're looking for: gumbo, jambalaya, pralines, etc. The prices are very reasonable and the food comes out quick. Save room for dessert. The only had thing is they don't take reservations and don't sit partial parties, though they make exceptions...

Di Newman

I personally didn't care for the food here. I ordered the 3 gumbo sampler (a special not listed on the menu) and it was served warm, not hot, except the corn one which was piping hot and the best one out of the three. Contrary to my opinion, husband and teen son really enjoyed their food. Hubby enjoyed the Creole Combination Platter and our son who is a picky eater really enjoyed the Jambalaya. Food came out super quick. They must have certain dishes prepared in a warmer and ready to be served. I should've ordered the Crawfish and Pasta dish. That looked delish!! This place is very busy with many accolades and staff is pleasant. Pricing is average to high, but that seems to be the norm in the French Quarter area. Well, at least I tried the 'award winning' Gumbo Shop... check... Next!

Chase Lejeune

Started with the spinach and artichoke dip. For entrees, had crawfish and tasso cream pasta and black beans and rice with a side of their NOLA bbq shrimp. All the food was excellent, but what set this place over the rest was the service. Mark was our waiter and his service was great. Checked on us periodically without rushing us out; even though it was very crowded. Courteous gentlemen.

Tim Sidbury

Sorry wrong shop I didn't make to your spot...I'm sure it's good though. Sorry to waste your time. Peace

Erik Isom

Food and service were good. Tight seating area. Better hope you don't mind basically sharing table space with strangers.

Tyone Charles

Was super excited for this spot since it's my 1st time in new Orleans but the food was mediocre and microwaved to death!!!! It was so bad I didn't didn't even eat it and still was charged for it I didn't make a fuss I paid and left service was fast tho I would guess since everything is prepared and they jus warm it up the pralines sundae was blah jus over disappointed

Dona S

Loved this place. Alligator's sausage were incredible, didn't expect that. Crabcakes were super. Here they actually let you split the check!!!!

Glide

Great food and quick service even with a packed house. We had the chicken gumbo which had a deep and rich flavor, boudin that had a nice snap, blackened catfish cooked to perfection, and red beans which tasted like split peas. The only food that was underwhelming was the creamed spinach. But overall my tummy was very happy.

K Lewis

Excellent creole shop on the outskirts of the French Quarter. Waited in line about 25 min. Really enjoyed the chicken gumbo with the french bread. Drinks and superb and the red beans & rice is a classic! Highly recommend this spot. Although the line may look intimidating, it goes relatively fast.

Alyssa Saypanya

It was nice to try. Waiter was very friendly and patient.. food was okay, not as authentic as i wouldve thought. Price was ehh.. for the price, i thought the portion was bigger but it looked like more of an appetizer

Vanessa Irving-Compton

The gumbo was great. Fantastic really. The bread was lacking but you're not coming for the bread. Also, a bit noisy but a good experience overall.

Nicole Ortiz

Fantastic Cajun food! We had the gumbo, jambalaya, and red beans and rice and it was ALL delicious! The chocolate pie seemed like a brownie and it was great too.

Ryan Hoff

Strongly positive reviews here... I was not a fan of the gumbo, though perhaps gumbo simply isn't for me. Service was good.

Sophie Her

This place takes care with their gumbo. The gumbo is so good! Also had some gator sausage, which was tasty. And they have vegetarian options! I'd recommend for anyone in New Orleans looking for some good gumbo.

Christina Slagle

We had an Awesome time here...waiter was super he remembered our order without writing it down ......! Food was GREAT..! Celebrated my son Timothy Blacks Birthday !!! Best dessert ever had!!

Joana Serrado

Beautiful restaurant with great food! My partner and I really enjoyed our food and service today. We came to try authentic New Orleans dishes with an open mind and Marcus, our waiter, showed passion about the food and was very informative. The gumbo was an acquired taste but I can see why it is a loved dish. The special was alligator sausages which was delicious! My partner who was once not a fan of breaded pudding has now changed his mind and is in LOVE with this breaded pudding with whiskey sauce! Thanks for the great food and recommendations from Marcus!

Gretchen Jeske

Great chicken and andouille gumbo! The alligator sausage starter was also delicious. Wonderful ambiance and service.

KC Mitch

Good gumbo but not the best. Great crab cakes and good atmosphere. Clean restaurant and friendly staff. Go early it gets busy and the service slows down. Indoor and outdoor seating. Red beans and rice is really good. Get it with an extra sausage. Have a drink and enjoy

Renee Olson

Excellent service and a really fantastic vegan blackbean dish. Just as for a vegan/vegetarian menu. The vegan gumbo was very good

Steve Replogle

Gumbo - the term may come from an African word for okra. It could also be a synonym for "unique deliciousness." I've had gumbo before, but not in New Orleans. When I came here, to New Orleans and to the Gumbo Shop, it was like I was having it for the first time. I ordered the chicken and sausage gumbo, but also had some seafood gumbo. I can't remember many of the details now, because the pure and deep pleasure of what I was tasting must have driven away my abilities for forming more rational thoughts. What I do remember is that I was enchanted, amazed, elated. This was something special! I have to admit that I don't remember if there was any okra, but probably there was. I ate my fill, and I wanted more right away. Highly recommended.

Cathi Faggart

5 ⭐ Because their food was worth the wait in the rain. Our server Juan was very attentive and pleasant.

THE GOAT Anonymous

Gumbo was nasty and they served it room temperature. Then replaced it with a cajun shrimp jambalaya and crawfish ettuffe meal which looked good but tasted like it was made by a person with no soul food cooking skills. Gave it a 2 star because the hurricane cocktail was bomb.

Mark Lawley

This place has great service and food. Atmosphere was good too.

Toffet Vii

I had the best meal of my trip and the best gumbo of all time at the Gumbo Shop. It's busy, but they're moving all the time, so it didn't take long to be seated. The service was good, and the food was fantastic. They have thoughtful tasty vegetarian options. Vegetarians should not miss the gumbo z'herbes, which delivers all the Creole flavors you know you've been craving the whole time you're in New Orleans. The Gumbo Shop has taken time to have some authentic vegetarian options, and not just some steamed veggies afterthought. I tried the Chicken Andouille Gumbo as well, which was divine. In a city of fantastic food, this was the best meal of my trip. The next time I find myself if New Orleans, I will definitely make another stop here.

Akua Brenya

Great red beans and rice with sausage. Really tasty and great service

Quynh Lifeisreal

Food can be good depending on what you get. Staff was attentive and friendly. I highly recommend their Crawfish Etoufee. One of the best I have tasted. Flavorful but not salty, with lots of crawfish, works perfectly with the rice. The Gumbo was a little underwhelming, sadly. It's comforting, thought a little salty and nothing spectacular, compared to others I have tried. Maybe we just had a less than perfect batch.

Angie Kirby

First of all it's a lovely restaurant with great food and friendly staff. Secondly, I ordered from the set menu of 3 courses for 27.99 which appeared fine until I was given the menu back to select my desert. I noticed that the three courses I had ordered actually came to 3 dollars less had I have ordered them separately from the main menu. I pointed this out to our server who brought it to the managers attention. Apparently neither of them were aware of this but agreed I was right. I was told that the only way the set menu was a good deal was if you ordered the one 19-99 entrée. We paid the bill we were given as it was only 3 dollars over, my husband having ordered from the main menu. This is something that the management should address now that they are aware. In conclusion, a real gem of a place but if you select 3 courses that are on the set menu make sure your server knows you are NOT ordering the set menu unless you don't mind being overcharged.

Lucia Estrada

Overall experience was great! Juan was a wonderful server. We ordered crab cake to start. Which was the best I have had to date. I highly recommend the seafood gumbo and the sauteed shrimp po' boy you will not be disappointed. We are definitely coming back ✌

Janet McMahon - Keller Williams Realty

We went here on our first night of our six night trip... it was so good I HAD to go back again. The first time I had a combo with Jambalaya, Chicken Gumbo & bread pudding and everything was out of this world. The second time I went back I just had a full bowl of the Chicken Gumbo and if course bread pudding. They have a full menu of traditional Creole cuisine if you want to try other things. They do NOT take reservations and you have to wait in line so be prepared!

Mr DeeJay

Great/ fast service. Polite atmosphere. Good food

Rose Tharail John

It was the best dinner we had in NOLA. Everything including their vegetarian dishes were flavorful. We were a group of 7 ladies, and the server was patient and listened to all our requests and answered our questions. It's very popular. Their gumbos were such comfort food and the blackened catfish was spot on flavor

Melissa Wright

Omg.... this place was recommended by 2 tour guides today. Outstanding. Juan was our waiter, super nice and friendly. He suggested one of the off menu specials, nailed it. Will be back!!!

Skip Rowland

Excellent food, excellent service! Well worth the wait (20 minutes at 2:30pm). We were seated in the courtyard and thankful for the large umbrellas. I had the Creole sampler platter and it was all i could do to not lick the plate. My son felt the same way about his black bean bowl. He's vegan and this place was perfect for the two of us. Tim took great care of us and we never felt rushed.

Billy Smith

Wait staff was amazing. Ambience was nice. Food was very good...HOWEVER, the bread pudding was SLAP YO' MOMMA GOO . Highly recommend.!

Chris Roy

I had the chicken and sausage gumbo tonight. While I'm not a gumbo aficionado, I found it a bit bland and completely lacking any spice. This may be the intention as there were hot sauces and creole seasoning at the table to up the spice level, but I don't ear a lot of spice and was shocked at how mild it was. The gumbo came out quickly, and like warm. I expect my soups to be hot. The service was average at best, which was shocking given that there seemed to be a server for every 3 or 4 tables. I wouldn't return.

Gord Haley

Absolutely great meal and service. Would go back especially for the BBQ shrimp. First trip to New Orleans and this was the best way to start. We’re only here for a week and definitely will be back again.

Shawn Williams

OMG if i lived near by i would be there every chance i could. Delicious food served with a smile what more could you ask for

Nicole Dolly

In New Orleans you can find a place on just about every corner that serves either gumbo, a snoball, or communion. But the Gumbo Shop is where you need to stop. I ate here last week and got the appetizer combination of red beans, shrimp creole, and jambalaya. The food is delicious and plated very nicely. The waiter service is impeccable considering just about every table was full with a wait. Being that the food is excellent and the restaurant is in the heart of the quarter its definitely a tourist hot spot. As a local though I can say it is well worth a visit and I'm looking forward to my next meal there.

Nick Grosskleg

Great taste of New Orleans, had the chicken gumbo, and my wife had the jambalaya. Service was quick and polite.

Dominique Ferguson

The food is so flavorful here! I actually moaned when I ate the crawfish etouffee! I ordered the Creole dinner so I was able to select four courses for around $30. I urge everyone who wants authentic Creole Cuisine to eat at the Gumbo Shop. Their menu is vast and you have lots of options to choose from. Trust me, you will not be disappointed!

Biiotch TV

I know it's new Orleans, but just know it's not kid friendly at all. Nothing for a kid on the menu, the seating isn't good, and it's just not lol. Food was ok, overpriced a little besides the po'boy. That was the most shrimp I've ever seen on one. Great service. DISGUSTING bathrooms fyi

tevyn howard

We tried the catfish with Shrimp, Gumbo, and Garlic Mash Potatoes. Everything was delicious and perfectly cooked. Juan was an excellent waiter. I will definitely come back here. Also the Brownie pie was good as well.

Dennis Hunter

The roast beef poboy was great, the thick slices of roast beef and quality bread were a nice touch on the sandwich, the jambalaya was a little over cooked, but still had good flavor, we will definitely be back to eat on our next trip to town.

Tami Feild

Crowded, table soooo small. Food was horrible. The bread was fresh and delicious.

R H

Despite the long line for a table (out to street) I was seated within about 15minutes. The server was attentive and greeted me within 30 seconds of taking my seat (a common industry metric) and brought water without asking. Everyone appreciates a short wait for the entree to make it to the table but the experience felt rushed. The food underwhelmed the expectations other reviewers had set. The presentation felt cheap and sloppy although it’s a good value for the neighborhood.

sherry Persuad

Best food in New Orleans love it a must on your list if u r visiting

John Harden

Excellent gumbo! I came here because I saw an ad that said they'd been voted best gumbo for 20 years running, and I don't doubt it! Also had a crab cake appetizer, which was very tasty and loaded with crab (as you'd expect here), with a great shrimp-remoulade sauce.

Samantha Stone

The line to get in shows that there is good inside. We had a party of 8 and no one was disappointed no complaints(that may not sound like much but with personal crowds there is always something) and friendly service. The food was great.

Steffanie Samy Moutia

Welcome to the gumbo shop! Thank you for the beautiful food, atmosphere and service! Our server Bernard was his name I believe was so fun, nice and professional! This will always be one of my best memories of our New Orleans trip!

Danielle Mari Filas

Terrific place. My husband and I came here about a decade ago... overslept in our hotel room and woke up late, ravenous! We stumbled on this place and worried that they'd not want to seat us so close to closing time. They were so kind. Treated us like treasured guests and fed us some of the best food we had on our trip for some of the best prices, too. The bread pudding was something we talked about for years. Came back this year and stopped in... the service, prices, and bread pudding was as good as we remembered. Love this place!

Tina Angley

Worth the wait. Waited 10 minutes, maybe more. The atmosphere was charming and authentic. We were seated in the open courtyard, very cute. Wait staff was prompt, attentive, real. Nice wine selection. Grill was down when we dined, so I had the red beans and rice with smoked sausage. it was definitely delicious, sausage was just the right amount kicky. Took home some of their brand hot sauce.

Alex Alford

The food and staff were amazing. There is a variety of amazing food that all people will enjoy. The staff is kind and generous. They are very helpful and the service is very quick. (Jacob is awesome!)

Marjorie Pokorny

Lots of good options and they have yummy creamed spinach.

Michael Williams

Almost didn't go, but very glad we did. Great food, service could have been a little quicker, our iced tea was all the way empty more than once before refills arrived. Noisy restaurant, great food, good selection.

Nat Dunny

The food was good. Not piping hot as they should served it but still edible. Small portions but not bad at all. It's not a big place and the tables are close together. Can be a cumbersome experiece.

Crystal

Spent 4 days in New Orleans and this was by far the best meal we had. It was our first real meal there on our first day and nothing we had after even compared. The blackened fish po boy was delicious. I usually prefer my food battered and deep fried but no batter or frying was close to needed. The fish had so much flavor. And if I had to choose one dessert to eat for the rest of my life it would be their bread pudding. It's like heaven in a little bowl and nothing even matters while you are eating, no experiencing, this divine dessert!! I had bread pudding at 2 other restaurants after this expecting it to be similar but it wasn't even close at all. I will be dreaming of this pudding until my next trip. And I wish I remembered our waiters name....he was great! We were so hot from alot walking and the hot summer sun. I think we drank 2 gallons of ice water and he never let our cups get empty.

sandra joseph

Nice place, food was good. I had the seafood gumbo hubby had catfish with creole topping. The fish to me tasted better than the gumbo, it was a small restaurant but great atmosphere. Would go back to eat and try something . Oh had Alligator Sausages for appetizer and that was very tasty!

Damon Revoe

It's a four star experience in my book. The food was good but the waiter could use more friendliness.

ANU Lion

Super good food and Brandon was an awesome server. I had all three gumbos and absolutely loved the food!

aaron edewards

Goodness they hav fantastic everything. I'm particularly fond of po'boys and jambalaya and gumbo and bread pudding. On the extreme plus side, the service is top notch and its right off Bourbon Street.

Charlene Phipps

This place has delicious food and a wonderful staff. I visited before with my dtr about six years ago and found it to definitely be one of the favorite places of our trip. Same this time, just as amazing. It was awesome! Absolutely loved the food and the ambiance.

Kat Mendoza

Honestly enjoyed this place a lot. It was cute and the service was great. Our waitress, Maria was super helpful with recommendations and very attentive. The food was absolutely amazing. Definitely coming back!

Sarah Wright

This place is the real deal. Make sure you order multiple items so that you can try as much delicious food as possible. The ambience is cool, the service is friendly and prompt, and the food is outstanding.

Phil R

Excellent food and service. Can't wait to go back! Try the red beans and rice.

Billy Walker

The food at the Gumbo Shop is absolutely amazing! I loved everything I tried there and the service was great. I highly recommend anyone eating there, I guarantee you will love it. Friendly staff, great food, and reasonable prices. Can't ask for a better experience.

Tony Valvoda

The best Gumbo I ever had, would like to go back and have more.

Mattisse Weyler Hubert

Incredible food, fantastic service, stumbling distance from Bourbon Street. This is definitely a must for anyone seeking an authentic Cajun meal. I had the chicken Gumbo and my mother got the étouffé. Both were scrumptious.

George Parham

Food was over the top, atmosphere very NOLA, and service terrific. Would highly recommend. Oh and the southern pecan pie is like no other you will ever eat.

Corey Mellon

Superb hot sauce and remoulade. They post their recipes online which is definitely unique. The gumbo was very fishy but overall it was an excellent time.

The food here is soooooo good. My husband couldn't stop raving about the gumbo and bread pudding he had. Tim our waiter was very attentive and had a great personality which made the experience even better. I would recommend this place to anyone visiting or even living in New Orleans! I can't wait to visit again.

Ericka Clinton

Excellent! Food is amazing. My fiance is allergic to shellfish and they have a gumbo option without seafood. So good and great service.

Jonathan Pierce

Very nice staff. It was a long wait but we got in and ordered gumbo. We’re from out of town but are foodies so we know our food. That gumbo was extremely underwhelming. Very little taste and they didn’t cook down the okra enough so it was so slimy. I love okra and when cooked enough, it’s not as slimy. I even took the leftovers to a local and they agreed for a place called gumbo shop, it was pretty bad. We wished we could leave a better review but the gumbo we had was very poor quality. Again, server was amazing.

Cassandra Aluisi

I ordered the blackened fish as it said that it's served with a vegetable. It arrived with mash potatoes(not a vegetable) and the fish was so salty that you couldn't taste anything else. I figured I'd give my mash potatoes to my grandson as it's his favorite, but he had one bite and wouldn't eat them. I would've sent it back, but our server never checked on us. The 2 stars is for the delicious frozen margarita, my husband's meal(red beans and rice with sausage) which he enjoyed, and the air conditioning. I do not recommended this place, nor will I be back.

Amazing food! Simple menu! And the waiting staff was phenomenal! I have a picky eater and they offered plain butter noodles and the kids loved them! We traveled from Missouri and I was happy to get a good taste of Louisiana before I left!

Rebecca Saunders

It was very good! We'd definitely go again. The food was delicious, and the atmosphere friendly. Our waitress, Keri, was excellent. A good place to go with small children.

Gabriel Mascote

Great atmosphere. Great food what more can you ask for.

Came here for dinner last week and was so impressed by the quality of gumbo I decided to order some to go to take home. The chicken gumbo was as good as I experienced dining in, however the “seafood” gumbo contained only shrimp. Particularly disappointing as I am not in the area and had promoted the offering as the best NOLA had to offer. Great food is one thing, but offering it consistently is Another. I hope my experience is singular in nature.

Very good experience great service when you hit all the spots or local cuisine. Good price warm welcoming staff clean and neat environment enjoy the stop. A wonderful midday break thoroughly enjoyed myself & family was very satisfied highly! I would recommended it for any visitor to New Orleans!

Very nice place. Visited on the 4th of July and only waited about 5 minutes to be seated as a party of 5. The waitress was phenomenal! She explained all the food choices to us, the spices, was always right there with refills on the drinks. She suggested the jambalaya and it was to die for! The red beans and rice with smoked sausage was superb!

Joe Pizzacalla

Loved it so much I went back twice! I wish we had authentic southern cooking like this where I am from but alas, we don't so I flew there to have some. Not disappointed!!! Price is great for the flavour, experience and service you get. They were packed but we never felt rushed or intruded on. If I go back to NOLA I'll be here again!

Amanda Epperhart

The Gumbo Shop had a lovely atmosphere. We had a big group (with kids) with no reservations and we were seated quickly in the late afternoon. Excited to try some authentic gumbo, I ordered the seafood okra gumbo in a cup and the jambalaya. The seafood gumbo was ok, it was overwhelmingly fishy tasting, which I expected seafood taste but that's all I tasted. The jambalaya was a bit dry but good flavor and spice. I wish I would have tried the chicken gumbo instead. Our group left a little disappointed with the food for cost but enjoyed the experience. Not bad but not the best.

The Gumbo Shop is where the locals recommended for authentic Creole and I am glad they did. The food was fantastic and the service was incredible. If you are not sure what to get try the Creole Combination Platter or ask for Jamal, he will take care of you.

Karthik Mahalingam

Went in with very high expectations! Couldn't wait to leave! Kari was our server and not very helpful. Her condescending manner in taking our order really put us off. Food was extremely average. Tourist trap. They have enough crowds to not bother about service or food quality anymore. Just go down the road to Mr. B. It was like a breath of fresh cool air! Such a refreshing change from Gumbo Shop

Luis Serna

Food was phenomenal. Jamal was an outstanding and very attentive waiter. I highly recommend this place to anyone visiting New Orleans. The thurkey and hot sausage Gumbo is to die for.

brian lumpkins

Tourist trap. Overpriced. Low quality. Seafood and Okra gumbo. Bland. No okra. 4 shrimp. 2 tiny crab legs. Étouffée, literally tasted like flour. Bland. 1 crawfish tail. One. Service was great. French bread was great.

Seth Andrews

I liked this place because it was a cool experience. Clearly it was worth the wait since when we left there were people lined up around the block to get in! We picked the right time

alexandria mcdaniel

So freaking good. I tried all the gumbo even there specials the whole time I was visiting and in my opinion they have the best seafood gumbo

Cheryl Baker

Bit of a wait because it's small-ish, but they got our group of nine in fairly quickly. Great service. Fantastic food. Always a stop at least once when we are here

Debra DeBoor

Food and service were great the reason it isnt 5 stars is simply that the food was good not great. Everything was yummy but not amazing . I would give our waiter 5 stars he was amazing. Helping my niece order and his bouncy fun personality made the meal more fun. The patio atmos6with exposed brick and tiny tables is very french quarter fun! Go there and enjoy.

spencer alexander

We come to the Gumbo shop everytime we are in NOLA. Everything they make is off-the-chart delicious! Especially don't miss trying the Garlic Hot Sauce! We order a case from them every year ... simply fantastic.

Jennifer Poleon

So worth the 30min wait. The food was amazing and the staff had great customer service. I can't wait to come back!

Nicole Gepson

This was a first meal in New Orleans and it was delicious. We got there at just the right time because there was quite a line to get it when we left. Service was fantastic.

brittany johnson

The food was amazing. I'm not a big spicy fan, so I was worried about trying gumbo. I had the shrimp and the gumbo and they were both amazing not very spicy but had a little heat. My waiter was also very attentive. 12/10.

Rima Samman

Delicious! Delicious! Delicious! Can't go wrong with any dish. Worth stopping in if you're looking for good NOLA cuisine.

KimAnh Tran

The gumbo shop is a great experience if you are new to the great city of NOLA! Beware there is usually always a line to wait here, but it is worth the wait! Full of Nola’s famous creole dishes all in one spot! the food and service was great! Great drinks to compliment as well!

Tessica Brewer

First time to New Orleans and this restaurant was recommended by one of the locals. So it kinda requires an individual breakdown, the spinach dip was just ok it reminded me more of creamed spinach that you find in the freezer section but we did eat it however, I would not order it again. I ordered the shrimp creole and it wasn't the best however it's not all bad there. My husband ordered the special for the day which was oddly named BBQ'd shrimp over linguine and it was amazing! That dish needs to be a permanent option on the menu a little pricey but worth it. It didn't look like what I was imagining but I literally got an extra loaf of bread just to soak up the sauce. Everyone was so nice and it was good and cool.

Brandon Z James

Always a great place to stop, though I have to recommend the jambalaya. The gumbo is good, but I am all about the jambalaya here.

LB .

Having become slightly addicted to gumbo during our time in The South, I had to come here. It was probably (definitely) the best gumbo I had and would recommend it to anyone wanting to taste proper gumbo rather than the dubious, and I suspect processed, gumbos you sometimes see as an unwanted side in some other restaurants.

gacastillo21 .

Nice place, great local selection of food. Go before 6pm, lines are pretty big, but it's due to the great food and service. Can't wait to go back.

Casey Paradis

This place was delicious! Super cool restaurant and a line out the door. Locals told us that they think this place is worth waiting with the tourist. I had the delicious garlic mashed potatoes and my friends enjoyed the chicken Gumbo

Ella Xu

Portions are a bit small. But they serve fairly quickly and the layout of the restaurant is very relaxing. The staff are also good.

Admin D Ball

Stopped in for a quick bite in a cool drink, great atmosphere both air conditioning inside seating and a very time. Correct cool little Courtyard or you can enjoy lunch. The wait was quick the service was prompt and courteous and the food was absolutely fantastic. Definitely some great local cuisine and the prices were moderate and the drinks were good.

Teresa Gordon

Amazing was recommend to us from some older gentlemen while we were looking at another spot to eat. I'm so glad we went here. Sat outside in the court yard our waitress was outstanding! Recommend more amazing places for us to try which were spot on. The chicken andole sausage was the best I have ever had and be sure to not miss their hot sauce on the table!

Ranga Yarlagadda

Best gumbo in town! Definitely also try the creamed spinach!
