I absolutely love the selection of fresh seafood they have here. I normally carry out fresh items and cook it myself at home, but today my family and I decided to dine in as we didn't have time to cook at home. We ordered gator bites, catfish sandwiches, and crab cakes. Everything tasted the exact same due to the batter they cover everything with. It hides the true flavor of the seafood. Salt and pepper and breading was all we tasted and we left there not impressed. I give 5 stars for take out selection, but 1 star for how they cook and prepare. So I thought a 3 would be in the middle. If they'd ease up on seasoning and breading it would be a 5 star all around.

I'd love to eat their more often but the parking is limited and usually full, so I have to pass it by. If they'd move across Shadeland to a larger space where LOTS of parking exists, they'd probably have more business, there wouldn't be problems between customers trying to park and I've seen police called in to deal with issues just in THAT small parking lot. PS, the Starbucks, Sport Clips, Donatos Pizza are also there. Good luck with the parking. I dropped Starbucks because a large black coffee at McDonalds on Binford BLVD near 71st is 99cents with the number 2 breakfast meal!

This place has amazing service. The only thing that tops the great service is the fresh and afforable seafood. The seafood is absolutely delicious. Caplinger's offers incredible value and their seafood rivals that of any seafood place in Indianapolis. I highly recommend this place for anyone who wants fresh and afforable great tasting seafood.

This place is the best seafood shop in Indianapolis. EVERYTHING that we have purchased here has been fresh and delicious. The red snapper, grouper, salmon and sea bass have ALL been fantastic. It is our "Go to" market for fresh fish. Highly recommend!

I'm from northern Indiana so in my opinion the fried fish here in the Indianapolis area is disgusting. The grease always is heavy on the fish and the taste is as if the oil hasn't been changed in at least three months but since I discovered Caplinger it is the only place that I get my fried fish from at least twice a month. I do not love any of their sides. But I can tolerate potato chip coin style potatoes. They definitely need to step their side game up but the flavor of the fish is spot-on and it is fried to perfection.

I've eaten here several times, generally there is a consistent overflow of customers and staff is always pleasant. If you are able to call your order in prior to coming whether dining in or carrying it out will save you at least 15-20 minute wait. Heads up if it's busy they stop taking phone orders to catch up so don't be surprised if you get a busy signal.

I went there a week ago to the location on Pendleton Pike. I had the Caplinger Special and the fish had quite a few bones. I took two bites out of a whole meal and spit them out because of bones. I called the main office the next morning as soon as they opened and asked for the manager. A guy with a thick Spanish accent said he was the manager. I told him about the bones and he said "the fish does not have bones." I said "I don't appreciate being called a liar, and yes they do." He said "I no call you a liar but the fish do not have bones." So I asked to speak to his Superior, and he said that he wasn't there. I tried calling back several times, but it was busy. So I emailed and still have not received a reply, after waiting a week. I gave this review two stars because my fiance had Ocean Perch and it was very good. He shared it with me since I refuse to eat fish fillets with bones.

Hands down the best fish market we have here now. The perch, catfish, hush puppies, yams and green beans was SO DELICIOUS!!!!! The only thing they need to change is the mac&cheese. Can't wait to go back!!! They also have fresh fish that you can purchase and take home to cook. The King Crab Legs are SO BIG that I am going to purchase some of them for Christmas for our annual seafood dinner.

DO NOT ORDER ONLINE. We had the worst customer service today. We tried to order online, and received an error message and tried a second time. Received another error message. The third time we placed the order as cash it went thru, no error message. Unfortunately, the withdrew the money both times we tried and received the error message. It will take 48 hours for the funds to be put bscb into our accounts. Our to go on line order included 2 drinks. I had 3 bags of food and had to work my way up to the front to make the drinks to go. And there is a fountain machine behind the counter

The location is small and crowded but definitely worth all of it! They offer fresh fish, seasonings, and sides to take home. If that's not your thing then order fresh food and dine in! Or order online and pick up!! I had the Smoked Tuna Sandwich combo with the Hush puppies and the flavor in the tuna was the most delicious I've had! It was similar to a hickory bbq flavor

This review is of the Pendleton Pike location, as I could not find it listed yet to review. DO NOT let the appearance of this location fool you. Had the Cap Special Sandwich, Hush Puppies, Fries, and Mac. Everything was phenomenal. The pretzel buns are the PERFECT carrier for this perfectly cooked fish. This earned a top spot in my lunch rotation, all for a fair price.

All I can say is wow!!! The roll and chowder were abundant with seafood. The chowder was creamy. The greens were perfectly seasoned without being too salty or greasy. Always excited to go back!!

When this place first opened it used to be the best. The macaroni I received with my meal, yesterday should a been free. Terrible. It looked and tasted like it had been mixed with some cheap cheese sauce and sprinkled with pepper. Yuck!

This place is amazing. It is always super busy but rest assured you can order online and miss most of the wait. The fish is fantastic and always fresh. The staff is very helpful. They will ignore any one using their cell phones while trying to order which is SO refreshing. The staff is knowledgeable and willing to answer any questions. I had only cooked fish a handful times prior to coming here askes for a recommendation and how to cook it. The gentleman recommended the basa and we order this almost every time. OMG, why haven't I tried this place before? The food is awesome. 5 stars isnt good enough. If there was a 10 this place would get a 10. We had fried catfish, shrimp, grilled fish, collard greens, red beans and rice, and waffle fries. From now on I will drive the extra 30 minute round trip to get this fish over the fish, fry, and slaw restaurants. Highly recommend this place.

Incredible for Indiana. You can't find better seafood or fish. Staff is knowledgeable and helpful. You can get seafood by pound and get it steamed to go. You can get fresh or frozen fish, fillets, and fried fish sandwiches, po- bo's oysters, clam chowder, key lime pie. I live downtown, I SO wish they had a place in downtown Indy. But it's worth the drive. Parking is adequate. Not a fancy sit down place but has tables. Think the little seafood shack's along the Bay in San Francisco. Very clean.

Honestly very surprised by how great the seafood here was. As someone who is from New England, my standards are kinda high for stuff like this. They really blew me out of the water here. The food was fresh, tasted amazing, and wasn't too expensive either. The oysters were my favorite and quite large for the price. Seating is kind of hard due to the lack of space, but there is plenty of parking. Definitely a great place to come to if you love seafood. Not so much if you're bringing a large group.

Although we LOVE Caplinger’s, this venue is a disgrace! We went to our usual Caplinger’s but it was ridiculously busy for Good Friday so we decided to try the Lawrence venue. They should have called it “Caplinger’s walk-up fish shack.” This is not even comparable to the Zionsville or Shadeland locations!!! So much for our son’s 1 year old meatless birthday dinner! We were stuck with the Chinese buffet instead, but it beat standing in the 46 degree weather for some take-out.

Purchased 2lbs of Basa/Swai; hubby broiled it with a dijon sauce and we devoured it! Usually we eat in at Caplingers but glad I was nearby to pick up fresh fish for our evening dinner.

Usually Caplinger's is fantastic, and the only place you can get quality fish. It's a nice place for a date and on average you'll spend $30.00 for two combos with desserts, but it's worth it. However, last night's meal was just gross. We had fried talapia and perch sandwiches, hush puppies, a side of chipotle slaw, and key lime pie. We made the order to-go. When we got home we realized the containers weren't marked and had no idea which was which until we bit into them. The fish, as usual, was quality but it was overcooked. The batter coating had almost no flavor and the sandwich itself was drowned in mayo. I'm not sure, but I thought their sandwiches came with tartar sauce or at least tartar on the side. Also, this thing desperately needed some citrus, but we didn't get any lemon. It's been a while since my last visit so I dont remember if lemon is standard with their meals, if not, they should definitely consider adding it. The lettuce was old and wilted. The slaw was runny and tasted terrible. The pie had a pale tan color like when you make it at home. I thought this might indicate it was made in house. But when I tried it, the flavor was really off. It was like an overpowering, sharp, artificial key lime flavoring. I only ate that bite and some of the Graham cracker crust. The rest I threw away. The hush puppies were also overcooked, and the same ones they sell in their frozen food section. They tasted great, but they're kind of small and you only get six. I thought this was annoying because it's just a fried ball of seasoned cornbread and they could at least give you a portion similar to a side of fries. The service was good and the staff were very friendly. But, the food was definitely only two stars and sadly the best thing I had was the refried frozen hush puppies. I'll come back because this is really not like them. I've been here a few times before and the food was always amazing. So, I'm hoping they were just having a bad night.

Fresh and hot! Some of the biggest oysters I've seen in the city, reasonably priced at @10+ per 1/2 dz! Even bigger than McCormick and Schmidts pricey multi-coastal oysters!

Always fresh and delicious, however this order was disappointing. I ordered the alligator tail meat and it was the skimpiest portion I've ever had (I order the gator often). It was good as usual just not what I'm used to getting for the amount of money it cost. I hope it's better next time.

I can't say enough good things about this restaurant. The food is always good and fresh. Our orders are always correct and the portion sizes are great. The customer service is awesome. We've been here many times and only had a small issue once but, they made it right.

Amazing everytime! Just drove 30min just to get a late lunch and get dinner for tonight. I love their soft shell crab sandwich, calamari steak, lobster roll, hush puppies, and all the sides. Love this place, menu and staff.
