I love this place and I wish more people would go here!! The sushi is outstanding!! Seems like too many people are going to Butterfly when they should really be going here!! And, it's BYOB or should I say, "BYOS" for bring your own sake!

This place was my ‘want to go’ places for sushi. The outside looked authentic and nice. We came around 6 and we were only ones there. There were 2-3 more tables when we were leaving. The atmosphere is quiet. I prefer quiet places but this place was too quiet where I had to talk so soft. Chicken karagae was okay but pretty salty. Only ate few pieces. I ordered sushi set. Omg. Too much rice. You know how sushi buffets have lot of rice to fill you up? Well, this place had more rice than those places. And the fish was so dry. One of the fish melted in my mouth... not in a good way. My friend had ramen and it was okay. We had so much leftovers. Overall, the sushi was worst I ever had and over priced.

Best sushi in west loop/west town. When was the last time you had real fresh minced wasabi and not the green colored horseradish served as wasabi? Great food!!!! Good prices. Legit sushi with variety of hot and cold dishes. Staff is super friendly and attentive. I can’t say enough. This is by far mine and all of friends favorite spot Friday night after a long week. Tall Asahi please!!

Yummy, yummy in my tummy. I order from here all the time. after I saw Butterfly's quality slipping, I thought I'd try the new kids in town... That was over a year ago, and many orders later, I can say it's everything you'd hope for in a sushi restaurant. The staff here are among the friendliest at any sushi place I've ever been to. The rolls are delightful, fresh, consistent and just delicious. They have some out of the norm ones too, which I love! delivery, carry out or dine in, take your pick, they're all great!

We ordered foods from this restaurant for our staff lunch and there was a miscommunication in our order. Anyway, the restaurant took initiative to fix the problem and made another dish for our one of staff. We truly appreciated and the gentle man took time to explain the issue to easy on us. We truly thought that that was a great and professional manner and customer service. WE def go back to this restaurant. Thank you for the good quality food and service.

This place serves some very authentic Japanese food. I really love the Hokkaido style entree, and beef yakitori. Very good sushi, and they have real fresh wasabi. Staff is friendly too and they provide good service. This is a good restaurant for dining alone, great for a group too.

Multiple trips have been very satisfying. Sushi is very good, portions and price are solid. Favorite item is the Ikebukuro, but there is a lot of ground to cover for those wanting to sample the whole menu. The decor is much more pleasing than Butterfly was when it filled the same space. Consider going here next time you want sushi at Grand and May.

It was an absolutely amazing lunch on our first visit. The restaurant was cozy with sense of Japanese authenticity. We ordered couple of appetizers, I have been on a hunt for an okonomiyake a Japanese seafood vegetable pancake with a savory Japanese mayo and this place delivered! It was delicious that it reminded me of how my aunt with make it, the takoyaki another appetizer it’s like a squid ball fluffy and delicate was tasty and just pure yum in my belly! We also had sushi/sashimi bento and a pork tonkatsu bento both has side salad very refreshing and generous side with cup of rice and miso sou! This place has a sense of authentic Japanese food with wide variety and selection! We will be back to try more of what the restaurant had to offer. Oh btw it’s street parking. And a little pricey but it is worth it!

Tsukiji Fish market has great sushi and sashimi. The ramen is good too if on the expensive side and not as good as high five or furious. The karaage chicken appetizer is delicious. Such good fried chicken. Get their tea too it's pretty authentic.

It was a quiet night when we were there. The cooked food was quite good but the fish on the sushi roll was kind of warm, and the taste was so so. The menu is long and has different kinds of food for everyone. The service is good.

The sushi here is fantastic! The okonomiyaki is one of the best things I've ever tasted. Along with the sushi they have other options (sashimi, udon, ramen, bento boxes). Everything I have tried has been amazing. The staff is extremely friendly. The chefs are great.

I usually go to the same sushi spots, but I thought I give it a try. It's decent but it's not my favorite. Reasonable price, but the service was so slow. The ramen was pretty good. They do have some interesting rolls like grilled chicken sushi rolls with unagi sauce. If you click like on the Facebook page, they will give you a complimentary edamame. I do recommend the rice bowls!!

Got there on a snowy night, not very busy, got seated. Ordered promptly, was extremely hungry. Proceed to wait 40 minutes for my two simple rolls to be delivered. Then waited another 20 minutes for a simple beef curry rice fish, which never came. Despite repeated questions about where the food was, they kept saying it was coming (It was not) and offered no explanation as to what was taking so long. Eventually I told them I was leaving, and when pressed they admitted they were putting delivery orders that came in after my order on priority. Worst dining experiance in 3 years living in Chicago. The food was okay, but after the service I'd prefer gas station sushi any day.

Best Ramen I ever had! I am having a hard time finding anything that compares to how delicious it is. Service was great! We went around 1pm and service was very fast and personable. Highly recommend.

I lived in Japan and the fish is NOT flown in from Tsukiji at all. It's obviously frozen and not good at all. What a major disappointment.

This restaurant has the most authentic Hawaiian Poke I've ever had outside of Hawaii. The sushi is fantastic, seriously this place is a must try. Trust me, you'll be hooked, nothing else compares!!

I found it ha excellent food and a great atmosphere. Better than Umai so far as ramen goes, and better than Yuzu so far as sushi & sashimi goes. Service was highly attentive and very friendly, too. And you usually can walk in any night and be seated. (They deserve more business. Under-hyped. And with decent if not good curb appeal, I don't get it. Anyhow.) About as pricey as Furious Spoon, although incomparably superior in about every other respect.

I am sad to say it took me this long to order from this restaurant. I did take out tonight and ordered the Udon beef and the teriyaki Don chicken and it was fantastic! Shame on me for taking this long to go here. I certainly hope they do well. this is a "go to" spot for me now.

Nothing will blow you away But their consistency over multiple visits and the quality across half the menu that we've had keeps us coming back. The yellowtail and green onion benchmark is solid. Do try the tornado roll.

I've only actually dined in once. I usually get delivery/pickup. The food here is always good. The one time I dined in, I tried food other than just sushi. My friend and I shared the tako yaki and kimo (chicken liver) skewer. I usually order the okonomiyaki when I get carry out- it's a good sized order...I can get 2 or 3 servings from it. I've tried the salmon volcano aburi nigiri, Alaska roll, crazy roll, and island roll all of which are so good. I almost always order the salmon volcano aburi and the crazy roll. One time I ordered a bento box for pickup and wasn't able to pick up the food I ordered until 2 or 3 hours later than what I had scheduled. The restaurant called me to check if I was still going to pick up my food which was sweet, considering I had already paid for the food. When I got there to pick up the food, the employee who handed me the food told me they had remade the food for me so it would be fresh. How amazing is that?? Street parking isn't too tough to find. Most of it is not free. I'm not sure how busy the restaurant usually gets. It usually seems empty when I'm there to pickup food so I'm guessing most of the business is delivery/carryout orders.

Awesome! I love the vibe in here. We sat with a view of the street - got a lot of what they had. Poke was good, rainbow roll was good also. I would prob put this right up there with Elephant from maybe a dozen or so sushi places in Chicago that I can think of.

I was told by the concierge to check out Butterfly. As I walked past, I noticed that it was packed and decided to look elsewhere. To my surprise, right up the road is a unassuming restaurant that claims to be a fish market. When I walked in I briefly glanced over the menu & asked" How often do you get a fish delivery?" The woman replied "Everyday." What restaurant wouldn't say that? The ambiance was warm, carefully decorated and very intimate. So, I gave it a try. Boy, did I make the right decision. I have been eating sushi for 27 years and sampled the best from all over the globe. If a sushi bar has poor Uni, then most likely, all the fish will be poor. Am, our waitress, was attentive and I never had an empty water glass. You are going to need it when you taste Chef's handmade wasabi. This is priceless. The fish was outstanding..fresh, crisp and sweet. The Uni melted in my mouth and the Sashimi was tender & flavorful. From the Uni, to the fresh cracked crab legs. The portions were filling and the presentation was too beautiful to eat. Can somebody please call Anthony Bourdain? If you want to eat at Chicago's best kept secret, make this a travel destination. I have to go to confession as the food was that sinful!
