Fahlstrom's Fresh Fish Market is a really cool spot for food, bar, eclectic/eccentric decor, and great service. Right off the bat, I had an intuition that they would have a great bloody Mary and ordered without even looking at the menu. What I got was a loaded bloody Mary with two smoked shrimp, two olives filled with a sort of crab mash, a giant carrot stick, celery, and a delicious coat of cucumber salt. The mix itself was delicious too without relying on spiciness to impress. For lunch I had the Fettuccine of My Dreams. I placed my order but first we were treated to a complementary plate of king crab legs. Three monster-sized crab legs totalling a pound of food and shells which my mother and I worked tirelessly to saw through with a fork because once we had a taste of the meat inside we wouldn't rest until we had liberated it all and then devoured it. Our lunch came and the fettucine alfredo was everything I hoped for and more. It was big, creamy, full of fresh shrimp and everything had a hint of smoky flavor. I had leftovers that I took home and continued to eat on two additional occasions. I didn't get to sit at the bar but one customer told his bar tender that she made him the best Old Fashioned he had ever had, and that the last sip was as good as the first. As if I didn't have enough reasons to come back, now I have one more. The decor is fun and eclectic as stated before. The menu is written out on a big chalk board. There’s a wall of cereal for some reason. The bar will make you feel like you’re in Cape Cod and there’s a fish counter next to it where presumably you can by raw fish to go.

I have been here twice. The service has always been attentive and knowledgeable. The restaurant focuses on marine-based dishes, breakfast, and overall, they are phenomenal. I have tried the Idaho Rainbow Trout and the Sea Scallops. The flavor of both the dishes was exotic and delicious. The cream sherry with mushroom sauce for the sea scallops made the dish unreal. The pecan was a nice complement to the rainbow trout dish. Overall, I highly recommend the restaurant if you like delicious fresh fish meals.

Treated like heirs to the throne of England. The service was exceptional from the moment we entered the establishment. We were told of the wait for non-reservation customers. The restaurant was really crowded; but the bar side was available for cocktails until a table opened up. The mojitos were satisfying and the beer and wine selections were top notch. The food and dessert options were delicious and easy to repeat again and again.

lots of fun, awesome food, good service. Either get there at "early bird special hours" or have reservations. pretty busy place. separate bar was nice. cocktails are great. Don't miss the clam chowder or the Nery Spicey Cocktail - Pineapple jalapeno vodka cocktail! Parking sitch is very good. Lots of families and seniors and in between. Wall of cereal is such fun. My husband and I are huge seafood fans and love trying out new places. This place had $1 oysters which rocked and on Tuesday they have all you can eat Alaskan king crab for $60! They were AMAZING!!! Flavor profile is well balanced. Gumbo is authentic, Clam Chowder is rich in flavor and captures the essence of what a chowder should be. Smoked shrimp with accompanying sauces is outstanding. Subtle smoked flavor leaves you wanting more. Seafood dishes are seasoned properly and care has been put into each dish. In addition to the outstanding dishes, you will probably get a table-side visit from one of owners, friendly and welcoming. Make this one of your goto spots when a great meal is required.

Was in Chicago for the weekend and went here for dinner. I ordered the steamed mussels which were fantastic. My sister got the swordfish - best swordfish I’ve ever tried. And my mom enjoyed the jambalaya and my grandmother enjoyed the scallops. Highly recommend this place. Has a bar, outdoor seating, casual atmosphere. The only downside was that place was very loud.

These are coconut shrimp and I understand that sea food is pricey; however this looks like leftovers. I put my right hand to god I haven’t touched not one shrimp. I was told 6-7 shrimp come with the App, but I received 5 and they weren’t what I expected. I paid about the same at other restaurants and received more shrimp and the shrimp seem more crispy. I ordered some great pasta from here once before, I just think this meal is not worth getting.

Went for Tuesday King Crab, all you can eat. Seems we paid more & got less than we had in the past. Hit or miss on the quality of the legs. No longer offer crab eating tools, corn on the cob or any bread, although I'm not sure they offered bread in the past? The price is up to $70 pp. The initial plate has two legs, which has a Cajun season on legs alongside what tastes to be some store-bought coleslaw. The refills were fairly steady & 1 additional leg. Service was very good but left feeling unsatisfied, with sore hands & overall disappointed.

The food was fine but the service was awful! All you can eat crab legs seemed like a good deal until we realized that it was nearly impossible to get more after the first portion. They didn't even have the tools necessary crack the claws...they may have had a few but they were in use. Our request to see the manager was useless. I called later to speak to the owner and he said he was sorry and that he would talk to his staff. We never went back to see if anything improved.

This place is awesome. My husband shot it for Chicago's Best and wanted to take me here before a show at the Vic Theater. The menu is vast, but our waiter shares with us a few of his favorites and they did not disappoint. We started with the tuba salad appetizer and the tuna was seriously the best I've ever had. It was smokey and salty and perfect. I had the blacked grouper sandwich and it was moist and full of flavor. The fish was cooked perfectly. My husband had the scallop sliders (never knew this kind if thing existed!) and they were awesome! You get 4 sliders, each with a scallop, lettuce and some amazing mayo/sauce/tasty delight. Also our waiter was one of the best waiters I've had in my life. Can't wait come back and try more dishes! Highly recommend.

The worst restaurant experience I've ever had. We had reservations for 8:00. We showed up at 7:50ish and they asked us to wait 5 minutes. After 20 minutes we were seated. It took over an hour and a half for our food to arrive after we ordered it. The waitress came to our table a total of 5 times from start to finish. We had to order more drinks from a bus boy because our waitress went MIA. The food was okay (very small portions. 3 asparagus Spears???), but the service was awful. My friends and I will most certainly never be back.

Best fresh fish for in Chicago! I've been several times and have never been disappointed with what I get. I love FL Grouper and this is one of the only places in Chicago that regularly has it! Also, they have a great bar selection with great cocktails. My girlfriend and I love their dirty martinis which come with trout stuffed olives. I know that may sounds gross but it's actually really good! Super friendly staff as well!

I go to this restaurant every time I come and visit my family in Chicago. I ordered the same salad every time. I always love going here for lunch, however, today when I went it was the worst experience. The server was horrible she never came back and checked on us the manager had to bring our salads. When I asked the server if I could substitute the smoked trout She stated there may be an up charge and I said that’s OK I just don’t like smoke flavored fish. The salad came out with tons of smoked shrimp but no smoked trout I was stunned that she would not have told me that they smoke their shrimp now as well. We had to flag down a server to refill our water glasses and had to ask the manager to bring us our check. We will never go back there again. However, our service was extremely poor ( e.g. inattentive, long wait in between courses) and the parking that we validated(per the website) was not accepted and we had to pay double. Fahlstom's has a variety of fresh fish entrees and appetizers. The sides for all the entrees were potatoes and asparagus, which were both served in small quantities. Only complaint.....on food is they were out of west coast oysters. The Delaware oysters were fresh and perfect. We could have used more horsradish but couldnt grab the server in time. Excellent spot for seafood. So many choices of fresh fish. The sturgeon was in a beautiful sherry sauce . Mussels done in a buttery, garlic infused white wine. Tuna tartar , crab legs. Super. This from the former owner of Glenns Diner on Montrose and he recreated the menu with the addition of a fish shop. Still has the unique all day cereal available. The service was lacking a bit. Mybe it was just a fluke. Hopefully , next time , better service. Best seafood on the north side.

Amazing restaurant for fresh fish. Great beer and wine selection. I saw a Bloody Mary go by and wished I had ordered one. It looked like a meal in itself. We ordered the coconut shrimp as an appetizer. Big shrimp cooked to perfection. Shared the Lake Superior whitefish and the pan fried perch and shared for dinner. Excellent. Topped it off with the key lime pie. Don’t miss it. Highly recommend if you are in the Lakeview neighborhood of Chicago.

Just moved to the area and decided to try this based on the high ratings. I went with my grandmother who has an allergy and was told that she couldn't substitute one salad dressing for another? The waiter said "No substitutions" and then claimed he asked the kitchen. He came back with "Sorry, no substitutions." However, they allowed us to get both the dressing we didn't want AND the dressing we did want on the side. Of course up-charging us for the second dressing and wasting their own product on the one we didn't want. When there is an allergy involved, "no substitutions" is a lame excuse. Especially when we get charged more. Overall, overpriced but fine food. Probably won't be going back because I don't like when restaurants choose not to respect and accommodate an allergy... especially of a little old lady.

We love this place. We've never had a bad meal and the cocktails are divine. I have a gluten allergy and they are accommodating to adapt things - something I appreciate very much! You won't be disappointed.

The food here was fantastic. They did need to fix our bill which required us to come back and resign the corrected receipts, but they were quite kind and apologetic about it. Definitely wouldn't stop me from coming here again (but I definitely will double check the bill next time). EDIT: After thinking about it some more, they really should have comped something simple off of our bill since we had to come back in and wait for them to fix it.

Service was great, server was awesome. We came after the show at 773. However, I was shocked that my strawberry margarita came with salt, not sugar, on the rim. For such an upscale kind of place, you'd think the bartender would be aware of such a faux pas. glad we arrived when we did, it got really busy. If you like seafood, they have it all here. Largest pieces of salmon I've ever seen in my life.

We had dinner last night and was thoroughly unimpressed. The portion sizes definitely don't equate to the cost per plate. Also, the service was unacceptable. Our server didn't approach the table for 30 minutes and never checked to see how the meal was going. We then had to wait an extended period of time for our check once we requested that and she was very cold. The buss staff tended to our table more than our server did. Would not recommend.

We have been going to this place since it opened. Food is always great. But service is often too slow. All the servers are friendly and our toddler loves the friendly bus boy, but the kitchen is too slow. Today we waited well over 50 minutes for our food. And the place was NOT busy at all. The manager did politely apologize and offered a free dessert (we were eating brunch) but we declined as our daughter needed to get home to nap. And then there was surprisingly no modification to our bill (which is not inexpensive). We are regular customers and I keep wanting to give the service time to improve, but unfortunately it seems the kitchen just can’t get food out efficiently. May need to find a new family friendly weekend brunch spot :(
