This Fish Shop corresponds to the category of Seafood restaurant.
OMG. Da hottie, for sure. But the spicy tako is fantastic. Try the lemonade
Poke was good, fish and chips were better. A bit pricey for the quality.
Fresh delicious high-quality poke. Definitely a stop in.
Unreal! So fresh, could eat this every day
Great food! Very local little joint to have fish, teriyakis!
Very good poke for a craving. Usually full but they work fast here so not a problem. Seating could be nicer but aside from that really good place.
Everything was delicious!! Awesome Hawaiian Poke, Teriyaki Beef, and garlic aioli salmon bowls. Service was fast and friendly.
Ridiculously fresh fish. Beautiful poke bowl. Friendly staff. They will let you sample a couple different flavors. Crab and broccoli salad side was great, especially if you like it salty.
See my review for the restaurant. Would highly, highly recommend coming here for their poke, grilled shrimp, ho'io, and the convenience. Best meal I had on this island! Grab a plate and sit outside, but beware of little bugs on the tables. Strawberry lemonade was great too!
The best poke I had on my trip to the Big Island. Very friendly service and I loved being able to try the different poke flavors that I was unfamiliar with. It was pretty expensive if you get the poke bowls separately but my boyfriend and I got the Big Boy and shared it (2 scoops poke 2 sides and rice) and it was a good deal and plenty of food. It was delicious!!
This has to be one of the best places to get a poke Bowl on the islands. The customer service is superb and they have a wide selection of items to choose from. It's a big hit during busy hours but the customer service is fast and it has a nice family own feel to it. I highly recommend this place if you are in the local area especially if you love food and want to get a little cultural Hawaiian into your system
Like I says great food.
Good clean food
Perhaps the best poke we had during our trip to Hawaii. Interesting options for poke and lots of great sides. If I remember correctly, the sides weren't labeled when we were there, which was kind of frustrating.
Delicious Fresh Easy. The kind of place that makes you feel at home here.
Really good poke at good prices. The inside can get a little crowded but the line moves pretty fast.
So good! The line can be long, and the portions aren't big, but still worth it. The lady who took my order was super helpful and friendly. I'll be going here again and again.
This is the best Poke bowl we have tried and its so tasty, im still drooling remembering the taste of the Grill Shrimp i order while writing this Review. The shrimp is so big, very very fresh and its cook to its perfection! My friend also order the Ahi bowl and its not disappointed as well! The freshness is top! i wont mind to just return to BI just for their poke. Absolutely delicious :)
Went here awhile ago. It was very delicious. The atmosphere inside was comforting. The braddah that helped me really helpful and funny. The location is amazing and perfect to transport (or in my case walk) to the coast to eat.
Awesome poke. The avocado poke is awesome. Highly recommend the spicy crab or hoio salad side. Staff was very helpful and nice as well. Outdoor seating only. Grab and go. Prices are very reasonable for the portion sizes. Truly a great experience and place to come to.
Very tasty and affordable prices
Poke bowl was decent, but the fish was too salty for my taste
Little pricy but good poke bowls
Average, nothing out of this world. On the pricier side.
Very nice people. Good food. Price reasonable by Hawaiian standards.
I'm not much for Poke, luckily they had cooked options. The hulai beef was delicious! The sides were great as well, I tried the edamame and the seaweed salad and those were very tasty. My son had the teriyaki chicken and my wife the Ono and we all loved it!
Have eaten umekes 6 times in 2 weeks
As with most great places on the island, this is a very unassuming place in a total strip mall. Parking is limited so be prepared to park down the street but still close by. You can't see through the front window so just walk on in (mind the sign that warms you too open the door slowly as the might be someone just inside the door). This place can be busy but the line moves fast and it's worth the wait. The people working here are very nice and provide fast and efficient service. The portions are a good size and the quality is fantastic. This is some of the better poke I had on my trip (and I ate a lot of poke). I got the Hawaiian style with seaweed salad and it was wonderful. Great flavor.... And I highly recommend the brown rice. Seating is first come first serve outside at big picnic tables. Jump right in, introduce yourself and take a seat. There is usually a spot. Even though it's not the most picturesque location, you will enjoy this meal and notice that everyone else is enjoying theirs as well. That's because this place serves up a solid poke bowl. Go now and enjoy.
That poke and fish are awesome
busy, yummy, super affordable
The best poke and the best service. Haha, we would of taken pictures of the food but we just scarfed it down inside. Good collection of beers, and happy hour is pretty awesome. Heads up - HH umeke poke is just the ball of poke, no rice.
Good place for poke. Parking is free for first hour. Outside tables are quite and comfortable
They let us try some before ordering and both the poke and the sides are great! We loved the one with avocado and the maccaroni salad.
Worth the 22$, best fish I've had on the Big Island. I'd choose this over sushi any day.
Pretty good but fish didn't feel as soft + fresh as some other places (just based on one visit)
MUST EAT! Generous poke bowls, fantastic sauces and sides, and lovely employees to guide a tourist like me through the menu. All of the poke looks amazing, though I got the ahi belly, a bit fatty (in a good way!) and so dense. The rice is perfectly cooked! Please, please go!
Great Pok’e. I wish we had one of these back home in Arkansas. Great service, fresh ahi, what more can you ask for. They will even let you sample each so you can get the flavor you want!!!
Fast service, love the kimchi avocado poke bowl
Tastes great - fast food fish- standing line & sit at picnic tables.
Wow... excellent poke bowls
Great poke, nice variations and sides
Here you can find very good local food and the price is fair.
On our recent visit to Kailua-Kona, we chose Umekes for dinner twice. There were four of us and we shared our poke, lau lau, fish tacos, and salads. Everything was excellent. The side dishes were creative and delicious. I would also like to compliment our server, Spencer. He took care of us both evenings and gave very helpful suggestions and descriptions of dishes that were unfamiliar to us. Thank you!
I asked one of the local where I should go to get good fish. Well here I am and I was not disappointed. Yum! Wanted the mahi-mahi, but I missed it by one customer. Ended up with the ahi, still good. Next time the wife and I will share one dish. We both ended up having more food than we can consume at one sitting. Thumbs up Umeke's Poke Bowls.
What a great place! Such great food and helpful people. ❤️ No anxiety or pressure to order fast. Just happy poke!
Great food great ppl ! Will go back for sure
5 stars isn't enough. 10 stars!
Food is average, service is atrocious if you get the lady serving you. Save your money and go elsewhere
Arguable the best Poke on the Big Island. We ordered two Big Boy Bowls which were more than enough for dinner for two. They are very generous with their Poke scoops, and you get plenty of rice and sides.
Waited a 1 1/2 hours for our dinner. Everyone around us got their dinners, so we were probably an exception? Great food. Do not wait to ask were your food is. Oh. Wait we did. They got most the order correct, did go though the whole order with us 1 hour and 20 minutes into our wait. Food came at 1 hour and 45 minutes. Food is great , hopefully we are the exception to the service. 2 hours and 15 minutes they now are trying to decide what to do with our bill? We have been waiting 15 minutes for our bill. 20% off is what they think is fair. Not coming back.
Good food! Very busy little shop
This place was recommended to me by a bartender at one of the resorts by where we were staying. This was the best poke we had on the Big Island! I came here a few days ago and got the Big Boy bowl and loved it. Had to come back and try the grilled Ahi and it did not disappoint. Well worth the stop!
Great little lunch place downtown. Awesome food and decent pricing for the island.
Great fresh fish. I always go right after I get out the water and before yeah. Rajah
We found this place after googling best Poke Bowl in Kona and it did not disappoint. Soooo good and fresh. It’s more of a small local place but I think it’s pretty popular with tourists now. After we went there, we realized ALL of the locals recommend it!
So been wanting to come here since I saw the DDD episode they were on. So glad we did! Got to try most of the Poke', my favorite was Da Sweetie, and the Poke' of the day. Really good! I ordered the Next level Lau Lau, omg! Really - maybe about the best thing I have ever eaten. (If you have ever been to Da Kitchen in Maui, this reminded me of something they would make.) It is a lau lau, panko crusted and deep fried, over fried rice, brown gravy, and a tempura battered fried egg on top. Add a little siracha and you have one amazing plate of comfort! So good! My wife had the fish tacos- really good, but could have used a bit more sauce. Overall, just an amazing experience! This is one of my new favorite places on the island! Great job!
Best poke, forget the other shacks
When I first visited your location a few years ago I knew I had just experienced a true culinary gem on the Big Island. In the two weeks I ate my way through the islands, Umeke's was by far the best on all levels. Worth a visit each and every time.
Really cool place that's normally full of people! Great food and affordable price. The people inthere are chatty and friendly. Food is amazing
The food there is to die for. The Lemonade's are amazing.
The Hottie poke was so delicious. They ran out of rice but the Ube (purple sweet potato) was really good.
Great little authentic poke store. Other options available for the non-seafood eaters. Not vegetarian friendly. The lemonade are super cute and delicious.
Absolutely delicious. I got the fresh grilled Mahi Mahi with spicy aeoli as recommended. It came with rice.. I ordered brown rice which was $1.00 extra and your choice of side... Mine was the seaweed salad. My husband got the teriyaki chicken bowl with spicy crab salad. Someone sat next to us and had ordered the poke bowl with mango. They were raving about it so it looks like I'll have to return before we leave. Plenty of choices of beverages.. Even a homemade strawberry lemonade but our cold beer hit the spot.
I don't know how this place has high rating, it was dirty and smelling and unhygenic
Poke and lemonade was bomb!!!!! Poke is also FREASH not frozen. And love the Hoio here also.
Super friendly staff and delicious food
The poke here tasted very fresh. But the flavor overall was very salty. In particular the Mac salad was over salted. They also ran out of white rice before noon.
Da i'a bowl with da sweetie poke and garlic edamame was ono!
Comparing this with the Da Poke Shack I think I would prefer the latter one. The choices in this place are fairly limited, even though the freshly cooked shrimp was awesome. I ordered 3 different plate combos and they are too salty for my family in general. You need to drink a lot of water to finish the food.
Very fresh poke and amazing owner!
Sought this place out for authentic Hawaiian poke and wasn't disappointed. Substantial portions and everything seemed really fresh.
Too much food. Very good taste. Not my usual meal but when in Rome... A bit expensive and less than fancy store. Tables outside were great. Loved the strawberry lemonade. Crab salad was awesome. Rice was a bit firm and dry.
Possibly the worst poke I've ever had. The fish was warm. The rice was an indistinguishable unseasoned mush. The seaweed salad was ok because it was not made in house. The restaurant itself is dirty and the staff is unwelcoming.
This is my favorite poke spot Kona side! So fresh and so delicious! Would recommend trying the daily special, never disappoints.
As other reviewers say, it's a great value. They have a simple menu with several flavors of tuna. The scoops are generous. We split the 2-scoop option, but it was TOO BIG for 2 people and we were stuffed. Seems some flavors use different types of tuna, not sure the difference but there may be some variation in quality. One seems fresh and very "bouncy" but the other seems a little soggy and bland (maybe less fresh). The parking lot is not very user friendly (probably not the fault of the restaurant). The complex sell their spaces as a paid lot but give "1.5 hours" free. You have to type your tag # into the machine. The other catch is that the machine seems to not have a decimal key so that you can only type "1" or "2" hours in. In that case you can't actually get 1.5 hours truly free, seems a little misleading if you intend to eat at a sit down or something.
Best poke in the world? I had the Avo, with local avocado and brown rice. Melts in your mouth. Orgasmically delicious.
Awesome ahi poke! Just remember: no fresh ingredients after 4 pm. Love this place!
Though I am usually not a fan of raw fish and had originally got the grilled beef option. I tried out the ahi poke and I was delightfully surprised how the flavor and texture complements each other so well that I tried all the options!
Excellent food. I had the beef bowl while my friend had the chicken teriyaki. Both were fantastic. The servings were large, the rice delicious and the macaroni salad was some of the best I've had in a while. The line was a little long but the workers move quickly and get your food to you as soon as possible making it an overall pleasant experience.
How I wish to taste the food at Umekes again. Only time will tell when but it was the first place we tried on our very first family trip to the Big Island back in 2014. Line to order was at the door but the outcome was well worth it- Very delicious and worth the wait. These guys put a lot of love and effort in sharing their Hawaiian dishes and flavors of poke to us mainlanders. The more we all want to come back for more.
The food was REALLY good and the people were really helpful
Fresh tuna! Yummy.
Poke was extremely fresh and tons of different options which is great! Bowls come with a side and include rice. If your in the mood for poke, this is the place to go! Nice eating area outside the restaurant as well.
Super yummy. One of my favorite poke bowls on the island. Generous and fresh. Had their beef teriyaki and it was super tender too! Staff was friendly. Helped us figure how to order.
Not what it used to be. I loved this place few years ago. Now, I went back and did not like it much. It's just another poke shop. Nothing special.
A workmate said this place is a must; two of us tried the "big boy" plate at $22... I had the spicy poke and the Kanaka poke with the ocean salad and crab salad as sides. My golf mate tried another poke and the mussels with the same sides. It was good but I had expected to be blown away... the best thing I ate was the ocean salad....delicious! I think your level of enjoyment will depend upon what you select... we saw others with smaller dishes...that would let you sample more; we'll do that next time. Guarded recommendation...choose wisely.
Quick counter service poke. Extremely fresh. Great selection of bowls fresh fish, chicken, pork, beef, and more. The macaroni salad is possibly the best mac salad I've had. Small patio seating area consisting of 4 or 5 picnic tables with umbrellas. Parking is abysmal, best shot is a free lot a couple blocks oceanside from the place. Walking distance to beaches and other attractions.
Small portion for a local people. Taste good. Very busy place. Lots of socializing. Go early. Not the peak time. Noisy
Great place for take out in Kona. We tried the poke and the kalua pork and both were excellent.
Good poke
We "needed" some poke and we're glad to come. Selection was great as was the service. We'd go back!
If you eat at Umeke's don't eat at the restaurant eat at the smaller hole in the wall the food is much better. My daughter had the fish at the restaurant and it was so tough she couldn't chew it. The same side orders of macaroni salad and crab salad were so far apart in taste in the 2 Umeke's it wasn't funny. I give the smaller hole in the wall 5 stars on their food.
Delicious food!! Salmon with garlic & Ahi belly are my favorite. See weed salad was my least favorite.
Always a great place for lunch or dinner.
Sorry to give only 2 stars since I really wanted to like this place and love local stores. But what I had was not good and hair on my plate. I hope it was just a bad day.
We were told by a local guide and by Yelp to try Umeke's, and they didn't steer us wrong. Walking in, we were welcomed in, and the guy at the counter explained how the ordering worked and gave us his recommendations. The poke was absolutely delicious!
The poke was delicious. We had a $22 plate for two person to share. It was a really good price!
The $22 plate consisted of 2 types of poke and 2 sides and 2 scoops of rice. Besides poke there is also cooked fish, pork, chicken and beef options
The food and service is consistently good. I went here 5 time on my vacation, and don’t have a single complaint.
Great customer service, and love the POKI.
Generous portions, friendly staff and delicious poke.
The poke was fine, line was really long and service was slow (maybe you won't mind it of you're not in a rush, but I view poke as a quick bite). Very pricy for poke
Good poke but it was a bit on the salty side. Lots of seating.
Poke was amazing. I recommend Da Sweetie. Pricing is very steep, however.
Best hawaian poke in Kona. Freshmade tasty and the staff very friendly. Big size for right price. Best quality price ever. You have to try everything clocked and fresh strawberry lemonade too.
Excellent poke options and quality food. Try the homemade strawberry lemonade purchased in glass mason jars.
Excellent, good portion for the poke bowl. The best I've had yet!
Disclaimer - we didn't know Guy Fieri visited this place until we saw his poster when we entered. Food: 5/5 The pokes were great, sashimi was fresh and looking at all the table orders - the food looked scrumptious. The happy hour menu is also has good deals and allows you sample multiple plates. Drinks: 5/5 Good mixed drink and beer options. I had a island style paloma which was rather good - downed it like juice. Service: 3/5 This is where I'm knocking stars, only because our order was lost and they charged us $4 for wonton chips. The staff was great at getting our order out as soon as they checked it wasn't completed by the kitchen but wish they told us, as we waited for some time. Ambiance: 4/5 It's a proper restaurant, great for families, dates, and just a meal out.
Umeke's had the best poke I had on the Big Island, and I had a lot of poke during our ten day stay. Umeke's has a large selection of poke and sides as well. Large portions make for a shareable lunch for two, just add an extra scoop or side. Would recommend. Try the lemonade!
Best garlic edamame I've had on the island
Friendly place with great food. Outdoor dining; no escape from the heat.
Good place for local Hawaiian food. Laulau, Kalua pig bowls, teriyaki, etc...
I used to live 3 floors above Umeke's and ate here frequently. I miss the staff and the poke and the pipi kaula. Highly reccommend.
Amazing poke options and definitely worth the price tag!
Excellent food! Highly recommend the spicy tuna poke with spicy crab as a side
The portions were very generous for the value. All the poke had distinct and flavorful sauces. The tuna was very fresh. Long lines go by quickly. Will be back again for healthy alternative to fast food. They also had delicious clever lemonade and ices tea in canning jars.
The best purple potato salad! Delicious food and friendly people!
Visiting for the first time!! First time having Poke! Sooooo good!
Awesome meal at Umeke’s! We had fried poke appetizer, grilled shrimp, fish tacos and pole of course.
Greatest shrimp, killer spicy poke, the best strawberry-lemonade. Super people.
Umeke's was our first meal off the plane. I was really looking forward to some good poke and we found that here. What really surprised me though is the shrimp plate. Ahh-mazing! Grilled shrimp cooked perfectly with the right amount of seasoning on a bed of fluffy white rice and a side of Mac salad. This was actually my friends plate, but honestly wish it was mine. Haha. I ended up ordering spicy avocado ahi poke and the Hawaiian original. Both were good just like I'd imagined they would be. Portions were big and worth the price. My wife in the other hand ordered a chicken teriyaki and wasn't as impressed. One drawback is the venue itself is so small. The line goes from the counter to the door. Seating is outdoors but parking is is not as friendly. There's are few parking spots. If you're lucky enough to find one, it's 2 hours free. If not, then you're driving around in circles to find an opening. Food: good Service: good Seating: fair about 4+5 bench seats outside Parking: bad
A usual dining place of ours. However, this time was a bit disappointing. We had the makai platter and poke portions we're NOT consistent. Great tasting tho. Ordered dessert for the first time Kulolo, which was frozen poi deep fried in panko with ice cream. When the server asked if it was okay, told him no and we're disappointed; he did nothing to 'make it better offer'. Even though, we'll be back.
Food ingredients are fresh but not surprisingly good as I hope , too salty to me. And price is just fair, not cheap. After check this and Da Poke Shake, I think I'm done with this kind of Poke bowl and will go back to the restaurant style, same freshness , higher price but lighter and with more vegetables.
Umeke's was a delicious lunch spot. I ordered the shrimp bowl and it was delicious! The shrimp was fresh and perfectly prepared. I also had some of my brother's poke bowl and the texture and taste of the poke was so fresh. Highly recommend!
Awesome Poke and the spicy crab salad was fantastic!
AMAZING Poke!!! We were just visiting, but they went out of their way to explain what everything was, gave samples and were just the nicest people!!! Thank you SO much for the wonderful food.... We need to take you home with us to Alaska
I love the poke and teriyaki dishes here! It can't be beat!
Umeke's had the best poke we ate during our 3 week trip in Hawaii (Big island, Kauai and Maui). Very generous serving sizes and very fresh. We ate here twice during our stay and had the Spicy, Sweety and Wasabi poke. The sides are also quite good, I loved the diced tomatoes with salmon and the seaweed were excellent complements to the poke. Missing Umeke's already....
Poke was really good, especially the one with an avocado paste. But you only get rice, dish, and one side (though they’re generous, filling helpings) and it’s expensive for me ($16-17). Would try once definitely tho.
Order inside, eat outside. Line moves quickly. They have gluten-free and vegan options! The vegan poke consists of large chunks of avocado, broccoli florets, and purple sweet potato, plus your choice of a side and two scoops of white or brown rice. Highly recommend pairing it with their strawberry lemonade.
I got the honey mustard poke bowl and my boyfriend got the chicken teriyaki bowl, it was honestly so good. The staff was very polite. The inside is a little too small, but they have out door seating.
Amazing best poke around.
Yum!!! This was the best poke we had on our entire trip around the big island (and a big portion).
Fresh and flavorful food, and extremely accommodating of food allergies, including gluten free and nightshade free. Umeke's was a hit with our whole family, which definitely makes it a rare find!
Great food. If I lived there I would go back again and again!
bomb food! I'm from Alaska and know good seafood when i get it, and this place knows whats up.
I ordered the lau lau bowl and it was really good. The Mac salad was tasty and the meat was fall apart tender. We ate outside at their tables, but the trashcans were near enough that we kept on smelling trash and the flies were pretty bad.
Superior poke. Excellent service. Generous portion. Outdoor seating was slightly uncomfortable because of the number of flies attracted by the restaurant trash bins. Not a lot can be done about that though.
Good food but expensive for what it was we thought
Best poke in Hawaii.
I have tried poke at every possible occasion over the last 2 weeks (travelling from Honolulu to Maui to Big Island). This one here was by far the best. All three sorts we had were absolutely spectacular; even the wakame salad surpassed my former favourite. Big ups
Over salted for sure and I love salt.
Very friendly service and even after a bit of an underwhelming meal (only one dish, was just too heavily fried) the manager came over without us saying anything or complaining at all and knew something wasn't right since the plate was unfinished. He offered a whole other meal which was unnecessary but very appreciated. They know how to win you over and we returned for classic poke (why bother with anything else it's so good!) and it was amazing. Will return!
The selection isn’t so great, but the fish was good. The mussel kimchi was incredibly salty which says a lot coming from me as I love salty foods. I was slightly disappointed with my overall experience, but I think it is in part of the Hawaiian poke hype. Portions are generous- I got the big boy and got two scoops of crab salad which when one would have been good then I could have gotten a scoop of seaweed salad. Also, I’m a big eater so this means something coming from me. Definitely not a bad place and would eat there again if in the area.
The line is long for a reason, Poke is excellent
The staff is really friendly and they have a good amount of poke flavors. That being said, everything is SO SALTY. I like things well seasoned, but even for me it was almost too salty to eat. (Even the macaroni salad!) My husband couldn't finish his because of how salty it was. We are HUGE poke fans, we've eaten it all over the place, and have never run into this problem before. I really wanted to love it. ☹️ It was also $40 for two regular sized bowls, a beer, and a bottle of water.
Fantastic poke and always fresh. This place was always busy regardless of the time. It never takes long but it is worth a wait! We visited 3 times during our trip. We had the Hawaiian and Da Sweetie Poke. The Hawaiian was my favorite, good flavor without masking the flavor of the tuna. Da sweetie was also good and not overly sweet. The macaroni and seaweed were great sides. The imitation crab salad was good as well but I preferred the mac and seafood. Get the dried seaweed on top of the rice for some extra flavor!
ABSOLUTELY AMAZING! Every thing we got was amazing! Asked for recommendations and wasn't disappointed! Two different kinds of poke and two salads with amazingly seasoned rice. Had the lemonade as well, I wish I could have this every day. So delicious.
