Ono is so ono here! I read a sad silly review that someone went to Pahoa Fish Company for a burger ahahahahhaha ah burger. okay i didn't even know they had burgers. Crabcakes that are mindblowing yess but a burger thats the last thing any akamai person would order from a fish company who also has refridgerators that sell-guess what fresh fish. And imagine what place is well known for their special way of frying fish and then theres those deelish waffle fries too. Keep ordering burgers from fresh fish places and you'll keep being unhappy and a sad reviewer.. all the smart tourists and locals will stay happy with ono and mahi smiles. Maybe try happiness and live aloha try an ono plate with a few perfectly fried shrimp!! Only cheese served will be a cheesy smile on each face so turn that burger frown upsidedown :)

THE BEST fish 'n chips ever. Coming from Alaska and having halibut fish and chips routinely, nothing has compared to these from Pahoa. Get the ono if they have it. Im not a potato guy at all but omg are the fries incredible. I wish we would have gotten an additional side order. The coleslaw is excellent as well. My wife and I ordered a 5 piece fish and we got 8 pieces of the best fried fish we've ever had. Do not judge this place by its looks! This is food to remember.

I was referred here by the locals stating this is the best place for fish & chips in the island. I had my fair share of that kind of food in more places around the world I can remember, and that's definitely No.1 ! Made to order in front of you out of super fresh fish fillets (including the crust). In 5 minutes you'll have super crispy, NOT oil dripping, perfectly made fish & chips. Great size to share as an on-the-road snack, or have it all for yourself! They don't sell liquor, but allow you to go buy it outside and drink it there.

I'd give this place 10 stars if I could. The BEST fish on this side of the island. We so enjoy this place. The ladies whom work there are so busy but they still take the time to shoot you a big smile. Omg the fish is so good. And the cross fit waffel fries to die for. We take the time to eat there seating is minimal. But everyone there is so excited to get this fresh fish know one cares it can get crowded. Got to try it!!

Really good waffle fries. I had a bite of fish which was also good. The hamburger wasn't bad. Would have been nice to have mustard and pickles on it instead of just ketchup. It does take quite some time to get your food.

This place has a good deal on fish n chips and it's really good and made to order. I really liked the 5 piece and that you could pick from the fish they had in stock for the day besides the usual cod option. I tried it with ahi and ono and it was delicious.

Had the MahiMahi fish and chips. Ordered a 5 piece and a 2 piece meal for take out. Texture was perfect, not too greasy and the tartar sauce was tasty. Wish I asked for more. spoke with one of the ladies working there. she was extremely friendly and helpful. wasn't sure what to order and what quantity for my family of 4. but the lady(s) there were very honest. be aware, the place does close early.

If you're anywhere near Hilo or Volcano, plan to make a quick detour to Pahoa for this local favorite. The fish and chips are the freshest you'll find in Hawaii. Hand breaded only after you order it and fried to perfection. Make sure you choose a local kine (kind) like Ono (which is a meaty fish that doesn't taste fishy) when you order.

Go for the fish, not the atmosphere. Great Mahi Mahi, and Ono fish and chips. Haven't tried the salmon yet. But, the quality and the quantity, are worth the drive, if you don't live in Pahoa.

Best crab cakes I've had. Ilooked it up, their AutoFry machines is what turns out great fried food everytime. And never too oily. Waffle fries and crab cakes to perfection. I've also had the ahi, salmon and shrimp. Ahi and shrimp was perfect as well. The salmon is a little dry for me. You'll have a choice of tartar or cocktail sauces. Both are good. Good horse radish flavor in cocktail. Made to order or call ahead. Both times I've been there we ordered and waited approx 7-10 min, with no crowd. I look forward to my next drive past Pahoa. Aloha.

This restaurant doesn't look like much from the outside but the food was fresh and delicious. There are just a few tables so if you have a great place to picnic that would be great. The portions are large for the price. My husband isn't much of a fish fan but loved the ono.

Very disappointed this time:( I have been several times and brought them lots of business. I was just in the mood for a hamburger and ordered a cheese burger. The bun was cold from the refrigerator and they put grated cheese from a bag, without melting the cheese. Complete Yuck! I always tip and I am friendly, but they were cold and unfriendly. Will not be going back. I love Pineapples in Hilo, and will go there form now on. They are consistently good and and always friendly.

If you like fish & chips, this is as good as it gets. The fish is moist and tender, the batter light and crispy, the French fries are perfect, and everything is very tasty. If you don't like fish & chips, try it anyway. It might change your mind. I'm not giving 5* for the complete lack of atmosphere. It's probably better to get the food to go, but then it might no longer be crispy...

Delicious fish (we had ono) and chips (waffle)! Great value for money - $15 for combo pack of 2 fish pieces, 3 shrimp and 1/2 pound of waffle fries. My boyfriend and I split it and it was enough food for us. We also got coleslaw (sorry this was terrible but maybe it’s an American way of making it?), ketchup (tomato sauce) and tartar included. Fried very nicely, not too greasy, the fish wasn’t too soft, everything was crisp and the shrimp in particular was absolutely delicious.

I always order the Ono, but decided to try their crab cakes and 1 piece ono. Crab cakes were delicious, but I believe it is a mixture of real crab and imitation, either way it was yummy. *WARNING* Don't be dissappointed when you find out it is not 100% crab, I liked it.
