Super expensive but really fresh quality
fish was ono
One of the best sushi experiences of my life. The absolute freshest fish expertly but simply prepared.
It doesn’t look like much from outside but don’t let appearances deceive you.
Nothing special outside, but inside real sushi and sashimi, oahu's finest in my opinion.
Oh man... So fresh and ono the fish! Will be coming back for sure!
Next to Alamo rent a car near HNL. Sushi was fresh but not the best (or top 5 sushi bars) we've had.
Without a doubt the best sushi in Hawaii. Weird location, but trust the reviews and give it a shot.
Great authentic sushi place. The hotate and toro were amazing. Love going to a place that serves real wasabi and well made traditional sushi.
Very good sushi, be prepared to bring more money than anticipated, it is so good you will not be able to control your desires to order more. Also be prepared to arrive on time at opening since it does get filled rapidly with water customers waiting to get their fix. Parking is somewhat of a pain, but you won't mind once your in there.
Pricey but yummy
I walked from my hotel to this restaurant after reading some of the other reviews commenting on the freshness of the sushi served here. So I decided that I would make the trip and try it out. I saw the outside appearance and thought to myself, "is this place going to be as good as everyone said?" I walked in, and immediately I was greeted by smiling faces and a warm welcome. They asked if I had a reservation and of course the answer was no. This did not impact me in obtaining a table though. I was sat in the back area, which quickly filled up. I was given hot green tea, which was nice. And I had a chef's choice combination of sushi, which turned out to be incredibly fresh. I actually ate stuff that I never could find on the mainland. I definitely recommend this place to anyone that enjoys a warm atmosphere and superior sushi.
A solid choice if you are looking for something that bridges the gap between your generic conveyer belt sushi spots and the premium, high-end places you can find downtown. The quality of the fish is fantastic but parking can rough.
This place is the best on the island!
Great selection of fish and very fresh
Very fresh sashimi. Good service.
The best 5 courses sushi menu we ever had: appetizer was abalone, sashimi plate including lobster, a cooked salmon plate, a sushi plate and lastly a bowl of lobster soup. Everything was fresh and delicious !
Best sushi I've had in Hawaii. A little expensive but the food is exceptional and worth the price. Fairly traditional offerings focusing on sashimi and nigiri with limited rolls. Everything was great and BYOB is a plus!
Fresh fish = place smells fishy. To be expected. Sushi was pretty good. The menu is small and a bit pricey. Minus 1 star for the wait (took awhile for drinks) Minus 1 star for the even longer wait for food
Great place for fresh sushi~
Amazing sushi, and likely the best salmon sashimi I've ever had. I would highly recommend this restaurant to anyone looking for fresh and local sushi!!
Always the freshest most delicious sushi with the best chef and team. We love it here!!!
High quality fish and excellent selection and prep.
Fish is good quality but quite overpriced. Many comparable, and even better, spots at a better price.
Awesome place! And I have never been disappointed. I went for dinner and I ordered the chirashi bowl on top of sushi rice. The sashimi was super fresh and thick pieces too. Everything was perfect, yummy, and reasonably priced for the quality. I also must add the service was great. Our orders were taken promptly, delivered quick, and at no point did we feel rushed to leave. It was the perfect way to end my night.
Perfection.
Superb Japanese dinning. The lobster sashimi also come with lobster head miso soup. Tuna is faty and creamy. I will absolute come back next time.
The service was not good.
Food was good but overpriced. Service could be better
Delicious, high quality sushi and sashimi.
Best sushi I've ever had, hands down.
THE BEST ROLLS ON THE ISLAND!
Outstanding and reasonably priced. Hard to find -- the store sign actually reads "Mitch's Fish Market".
Fresh fish. Great atmosphere. A bit pricey.
Great little location near the airport. They have a nice seating area to enjoy the fish. Well cut and presented to you.
The best sushi experience on Oahu. I was blown away at the quality. I didn't know lobster sashimi was a thing, but yep... It's a thing!! All their fish is flown in every morning from 9i8>>iJapan
I love sushi. I try to find the best whenever I travel and as a result I have eaten some very good sushi. Mitch's is of the highest quality. You won't find a bunch of over-the-top sauced up rolls here. What you will find is totally fresh, expertly prepared sashimi and nigiri. We had a party of 12, and spent over $600. I ate $100+ myself and dont regret a dime of it. It's not cheap, but not much in hawai'i is. If i can find the time I will go back alone and eat til I can't move. :)
So good!
Food (Sushi&Sashimi) was great. However, their service sucks. I reserved a table for my husband's BD and actually mentioned it on the phone to them but the table we got was a middle of a main room even though there were empty tables by walls. People were walking around us so often and so uncomfortable. Left quickly and went to somewhere else for dessert. Japanese food but their service was so un-Japanese. Disappointed.
Hole in the wall sushi joint near the airport, which made for a great (quick) stop before catching our flight. Probably some of the best sashimi we've had.
Very good and fresh sashimi, actual wasabi, and very nice and friendly staff/service. All in a very casual atmosphere. You pay a premium for the quality seafood and you'll probably want to order a tad more if you want to walk out full. It's worth a visit. I will say that I've had slightly better salmon sashimi elsewhere for a more reasonable price.
Used to be the best Sushi on Oahu. Their portions have gotten smaller...but still a great place
It's one of my must visit places in Hawaii. Always have excellent quality seafood. A bit pricey but it won't disappoint you.
Only place I know that serves Engawa besides Japan! Delicious chu toro (I prefer aburi) Lots of parking. Also the only sushi place that don't allow non VIP patrons to sit at the sushi bar. Nice, chefs, though. Maybe they're shy.
Best sushi I've ever had. Super fresh. The staff is also very friendly.
Story Time: I'm a huge believer in eating local food, recommended by locals wherever I travel. I ask Uber drivers, coworkers and especially our chefs where to eat when I visit that area. In January 2018, I traveled to Hawai'i to assess a newly-acquired operating company with my boss and two other senior leaders. After our first day on-site at one of the new locations, we agreed to meet for dinner. Having already sought out a series of recommendations that aren't tourist traps and knowing the four of us were sushi fans, I suggested Mitch's. My companions ribbed me the whole way to the restaurant because the area is pretty industrial, and the exterior is not particularly inviting. When we arrived, one of them even hopped out to peek in the window and ran back to the Uber... and we left. They teased me all the way to Nico's Pier 38 which - let's say - is not the type of place I seek out. They gave me grief all the way to our table, and even told our server the story and that I would no longer be allowed to pick the restaurants. The server was taken aback... asking me where the heck I had taken them. I told him we had initially gone to Mitch's Fish Market. He looked them dead in the eye and said, "oh, you should've stayed there - that place is awesome!" Fast forward 18 months. I'm back in Honolulu, and I'm spiking the ball. Omakase - and some of the best sushi I've ever had. If you don't know what Omakase is/means, Google it and then place your faith in the competent itamae behind the counter. I'll be back. tl;dr: Mitch's Fish Market kicks butt.
Good place. But pricey for what you get. Better for sashimi.
Wonderful fresh fish and seafood.
Small restaurant but the sushi is amazing. You can't beat it
Good sushi but way overpriced. Nothing spectacular.
We stumbled here after there was some major traffic on our way home. This place exceeded our expectations. BYoB which I am a fan, and the freshest most tasty seafood we have ever had (loved on multiple islands). the staff was nice and attentive, we will be back again for sure! my new go to for sashimi and fresh fish!
The real deal. Unassuming sushi restaurant with the freshest fish around. BYOB, so get some beer, wine, or sake, fill your cooler with ice and prepare to indulge in a top quality sushi experience.
Really casual place. Nice staff and great sushi. Close to hotel. Good for a quick dinner.
Absolutely amazing sushi!
Best sushi ever
Solid ono seafood.
Fantastic shushi - I love to stop by on my way to the airport
Food was tasty. Atmosphere was very casual but with beautiful fish tank. Service was friendly.
Extremely high quality fish and sushi monk fish liver was awesome
Sushi was amazing, some of the best I have had.
Best seafood on the island. Great first stop for regular visitors to the island.
Best fresh sushi ever. Hidden and expensive.
Overall great sushi and great service. Rhinelle is an amazing waitress, she's very welcoming and even passed out homemade banana bread to all the moms for Mother's Day. Highly recommend Mitch's Special; it's pricey but they give you a lot of food (the 2 person portion could almost feed 3). And definitely get the abalone! Also really nice to bring in our own sake without a corkage fee.
Amazing service and sushi! The toro nigiri was insane.
Best sushi I've had in a while
Amazingly fresh tuna, very friendly and welcoming staff. Try the fatty tuna and blue tuna sashimi, byob FYI.
Having just come from Japan, I wasn't expecting much from sushi in America. And the outside didn't strike a lot of confidence. But it was date night and my wife loves sushi. We walked in and the interior was a shockingly fantastic. I felt like I'd been transported to an entirely different shop. My wife and I decided to go big. We had the chef's special, and at 90 bucks a person, we were expecting greatness. It was 5 courses. The first course was really only a bite, but it was a fresh induction into what we'd be getting that night. The second course was a plate of a variety of sashimi. Every piece was like butter. Smooth and melt-in-your-mouth good. The third course was a cooked dish. I can't tell you what it was, but it was covered in cheese. I'm not a cheese fan myself, but this was fantastic! The fourth was a variety of sushi, each with fish as fresh as before. Our final course was a lobster miso soup. Everything was so fresh and so delicious, I was quite impressed! I will eat here again! Mitch's has my highest recommendation!!!
Visited with a group and everything was fantastic!
Great place for family And friends Great atmosphere great service
Great food, just need some cleaning often
I have been struggling between a five and a four. This is a 4.5 in my ranking when it comes to sushi, but based on my google search it seems to be the best sushi in Oahu. The location is very hidden and we almost doubted there could be a good restaurant around this place, but it was crowded. This was my first time trying lobster and abalone sashimi and it was amazing. The nigiris were very good, slightly strong on the wasabi. The service was great too.
Excellent sushi. Very fresh.
Don't be discouraged by the location and outside appearance. Hands down, this is the best sushi and fish I've had. We went last night and ordered the Mitch's Special, which is a 5-course meal. Everything was excellent and fresh. Service was friendly and quick. It's a BYOB place, and they provide ice buckets for your drink. I will definitely be returning.
My husband and I went to Mitch's sushi restaurant the other day and it was amazing food. the thing we loved the most was the Grilled Scallops. They were absolutely wonderful fresh scallops very sweet and juicy in a Sauce that complemented the sweet scallops with a salty flavor A lot like soysauce but better. I wish I would have asked the waitress what kind of sauce it was because it was absolutely wonderful. We also had a California roll and some miso soup, and the grilled abalone. My husband's not much of a raw fish person but he really loved the abalone and the scallops and the miso soup. Pretty expensive but definitely worth the price.
I found this on TA and it was deservedly well rated. I didn't understand the sushi menu but they were really helpful and the food was first class if a little exe. Off the beaten track. Great atmosphere. Great service.
Fresh catches and pretty authentic sushi. Parking is a bit tight and it's a BYOB establishment with a $10 fee. Highly recommended trying the Toro. Melts in your mouth...
If there's no price on the menu... it's to expensive! Great food and customer service.
That's the best Japanese restaurant that I've been try. Fresh, yum!
Broke da mouf. Ahi straight up melted on my tongue. I've eaten slot of fish in my life, this place is worth a visit and the price
Amazing!! I highly recommend this restaurant. Amazing matcha tea served at the beginning of the meal. And then the best fish I've had on Oahu. The restaurant is very unassuming in location and outward appearance, but don't let this dissuade you - you will not regret choosing Mitch's for your next dining experience.
I found a good sized fish bone in my Hamachi Roll. Very good Sushi/food good quality, but pricey of course. Gets busy and service can get a little slow.
BYOB Sushi. One of the best sushi joints in all of Oahu. This is a different approach to sushi as the omakase menu is presented in an untraditional format. Their speciality is lobster sushi which is a very unique item. It's easy to swallow their dishes but hard to swallow their price!
Great fresh authentic Japanese food. Even with their limited menu it is 100% worth it. Byo drinks. We had the ume platter and the dessert which were excellent.
Best Sushi on the island! Fresh inventory. No after taste. Fast service. Very business like. In the middle of an industrial park. A hidden gem.
Seriously the best sushi I've ever eaten!!! BYOB, but the food does not get better than what you'll get at Mitch's. You want to order three sashimi spiny lobster - because it is amazing, and because the lobster miso is unbelievable!
Dive sushi place, nothing more to say
Absolutely the best Sushi in Honolulu! Get there at opening time (11:30 am ) to get a table for lunch!
Good service Wonderful offerings Good time Enjoyed very much
Such an amazing find! Mitch's is a tiny hole-in-the-wall type of place with absolutely excellent sushi! It must be great if President Obama visited!
This place is the restaurant equivalent of the song from A Chorus Line, "Dance 10, Looks 3." Don't be scared away by its exterior. The sushi here is outstanding!
The freshness of the seafood produce here is out of this world. I enjoyed every bite including the fatty tuna.
Best Sushi ever
Excellent quality seafood
Would of been 5 stars, but it is VERY expensive & not so many choices. $28 for 6 pcs of salmon sashimi. Not a 5 star place for that price. Will not return. Better places with more choices & better prices. Sad, bc I heard this place was so great.
Hands down one of Honolulu best sushi
Limited items to choose from in the menu. Very expensive for what you get. The company we were with made the whole experience better.
AMAAAAAZING food. Best sushi I’ve ever had!
Super fresh and delicious. Had fun in private party room.
Sushi was amazing the atmosphere was lacking and no soke.
Wasabi on everything??? Why
Fantastically fresh sushi that is top quality served in a very casual setting. Expect prices to be high for the choicest cuts of Toro and other exotics. Well worth it. There are other food choices that are less expensive that looked delicious. But we went for the sushi! Yum!
Been coming here since before they did their renovation and was a gone in the wall. Service and food quality is send to none!
The sample plate was very lean and a little gamey, good but noticably bland. I think it could have been better, mostly because the sushi rice tasted very similar to plain unflavored white rice. The soy sauce they serve is ruinously overpowering, even using just a tiny bit. Very friendly waitress.
Menu and prices seemed decent but wait staff was not. Preferred to sit at bar but wait staff refused me seating even though no one was sitting there. General eating area was full and was told I had to wait. Decided to take my business elsewhere.
Great food but lacking in ambiance
Cant find any fault. Nice place for some very good sushi.
Very special hideaway the won't be hidden very long! Just ask the 44th Potus.
Service was excellent. Food was the best seafood sushi EVER! More fresh fish dripping over the sushi and everything u could dream of was there. I was surprised when when we pulled up. The outside of the restaurant is so so ghetto. Walked in and I'm thinking...OH NO! turn around, turn around.... DONT!!! I SAID DONT!!! Keep following the waitress and u will laugh. Huge salt water tank filled with beautiful fishes. Tables are set ready to seat and serve. And u will walk out figuring out your next visit. It was the best. AND it's not in Waikiki or Kala'ako...no traffic and parking. Enjoy people...you won't regret it. Oh! Did I say DAM FRESH! No...it's dam fresh and or dam good. Pay the price, it's worth it. Next time, I'm taking poi....chi huh! ( Here fishy fishy.)
Was just ok. Sister in law hyped it a bit. The sushi was mostly fresh. Waitress didn't seem to know the difference between menu options. Possibly a language barrier but a lot of the deluxe options are "chef's" choice and this time around the choices weren't all that great. The wasabi applied to the nigiri was too generous. I had tears running and nostrils flaring. I eat with wasabi all the time. This typically is not a problem. Other than that, the interior was nice, the fish was fresh and traditional.
Every attempt to eat at a place presumably to be better than Mitch's has been shot down. Nothing fancy or hip. Just straight up sushi as you would be served in Japan.
From the outside, this place looks like a cheap lunch counter. To be fair, it sort of looks that way on the inside as well, but the sushi is really terrific! It was a bit pricey for my liking, but if you want delicious, well-prepared sushi, make the effort to get out to this industrial neighborhood and dive in. Don't let the appearance fool you, the chefs know what they're doing!
Fantastic little hidden treasure. However I did not really enjoy the sea urchin.
Who would have guessed one of Oahu’s best sushi restaurants was hidden in an industrial area near Daniel K. Inoyue International Airport? Mitch’s is the real deal for fresh and delicious sushi and seafood. Don’t pass up the chance to eat here if you’re in the area.
Best fresh fish and sushi ever!! Everyone welcomes you and chef included. We'll be back!!
Fish is very fresh, just like Tsukiji Market!
On the outside it isn't much but its the best sushi I had while in Hawaii, hands down! Mitchs is a low key place with a handful of tables. The service was awesome and the sushi so delicious. It is a bit pricey and you can splurge for the 5 course sushi meal. I went with the variety and got the $45 plate. Excellent choice as it had a little but of everything. It was all prepped and presented beautifully.
Great fresh sea food. Unlike anywhere else Mitches is the best!
Delicious fast fish. BYOB. Set menu. Set omakase. Got a sushi platter. Ate it all up fast! Limited parking. Looks like hole in the wall but then it opens up big. Big photo of Obama on the wall. I’d go again.
Great environment to have a delicious sushi
The best of the best. The place is hiding but it is the freshest traditional sushi you could look for.
Sushi quality is excellent and atmosphere is great as well. I've had dinner here and it was a fun experience, especially with the tatami room upstairs. This last experience at lunch was a bit of a letdown, which is why I couldn't give the extra star. Sashimi choices were pretty standard and meh to justify the expensive $42 price point for the Sashimi Deluxe, especially at lunch. Would've enjoyed/appreciated an uni or even a piece of their lobster sashimi (their specialty) and could've done without the salmon and 2 different hotate pieces. Overall a good, solid place for sashimi.
Nice local hole in the wall restaurant. A bit over priced, but the service and food was good. Probably wont go back
Very delicious
Plan ahead for parking, and expect to pay accordingly for the freshed and most delicious. Don't think too much beyond that. It's well worth it.
Awesome sushi spot! BYOB.
Great Sushi & Sashimi
Best hidden sushi in town. Don't let the outside fool you
Always a chill place with quality sushi.
Very good sashimi and sushi.
Great cuts of fish just lacking presentation
Mitch's is the best! The otoro was one of the best I've had and I've been to Michelin stat restaurants in Japan. It was beautifully marbled and melt in your mouth good. The uni was ok and so was the ankimo but I don't think it was uni season when I went. The ankimo didn't taste as rich as others I've had. The otoro was definitely where it's at! The prices were very reasonable given the quality of the fish. I would definitely come back again when in Oahu. All the other sushi and sashimi I had are spot on. Definitely well worth the money. Loved it!
Consistently good quality sushi at a reasonable price
Best soshi ever!
Super fresh sushi. Perfectly delicious!
A friend from college took me to this place back in Spring 2017, and the sushi was fresh and delicious. I recommend to others who are planning to visit Oahu to try this place. Don't be fooled on the exterior appearance of this restaurant!
Hidden jem
Excellent sushi but the prices and the combinations are not for those looking for a bargain, luckily for us, we were invited and we were told don't worry about price.
The place was amazing. At first glance you think it is a run down place, but as soon as you walk in the place is pretty clean place. The food was delicious, it was so fresh it had to be caught that morning. If you want sushi this is the place to go to. They offer other items like this couples bowl with additional items. It is pricey but it's worth it. Honestly this is a great place to go to for a date and its across from a chocolate factory. They don't sell alcohol though, but the food makes up for it.
I was looking for a sushi place but didn't want to sir in traffic during rush hour, did a search and found Mitch's Fish Market with a high rating so I drove over. When we arrived we looked at each other skeptically when we were outside questioning the location, but found the door and went inside. We were pleasantly greeted and given a table in a nice dining room and proceeded to order. Read the story on the menu and awaited sushi (we didn't wait long). To be fair, I'm no sushi expert, but I have eaten decent sushi in my time, and what we got here was the best I've had! While many other places seem to douse sushi in sauce, Mitch's doesn't need to because the fish is fresh. Great food, and calling it a hidden gem is an understatement. A little pricey, but you're paying for quality. Done may complain about the location, but I think the location keeps it hidden away better. And finally, BYOB.
Great sushi & sashimi! Good service. A friendly, low key, casual atmosphere. Good prices for high quality food. IE worth the prices. BYOG.
Honestly this place is really a Treasure - humble on the outside and beautiful in the inside. I didn't give a 5 star because I wanted to go back and try some more. -entrance smells really fishy but that's what you get for fresh good fish -Taste: 5 stars thus far -Interior: 5 star - completely taken aback on how big the restaurant really is -Bathroom: no comment - didn't use it -Service: 4 stars, I was their first customer so not much going on -Price: $$$ got 3 rolls spent $40 (that was just me alone - avg woman 5'5" 160LBS) Looking forward to going back again soon!
I stop here every trip to Oahu and have never been disappointed.
Fresh fish makes for excellent sushi/sashimi. This is a BYOB restaurant
Best sashimi I have every had. Some other places come close and have more fancy service But if you want the best fish, go to Mitch's. I had deluxe sashimi (ahi and salmon were amazing), otoro, hamadai, and a otoro roll. Amazing.
Real good sushi
Fresh seafood but pricy
Surprised when you compare outside in industrial area with food and interior decor. Only 900 feet from Alamo rental.
Great quality for the price. My go-to sushi restaurant. Also it's BYOB.
Best sushi I had so far. Had Mitch's Special (5 course meal). Everything was amazing, including the service. Toro nigiri is a must have. I'm definitely coming back here again.
Great time with a friendly staff that understand what BYOB means. ;)
The place is dirty. The establishment lack ventilation. Be prepared to smell like fish once you're done eating. The set up of the restaurant is awkward. The miso soup has shrimp head boiled in it; it tasted miso shrimp gumbo. Sushi rolls were pricey. I will not return.
Amazing food! The prices were a bit higher than I was expecting but our servers were friendly and we loved seeing all the cool pictures and memorabilia on the walls.
Absolutely fresh and delicious sushi with a good selection of nigiri, sashimi, rolls, and daily specials. Friebdly service. We were seated right away. Parking easy outside. Price is $$$, however, and place is BYOB which are the downsides. Smells like a fish market. Gets the appetite going.
Pricey but very good fresh food.
Nice little place near the airport. So glad I found it. Thanks to Google Maps!
Great fish
Little spot near by the airport. During peak hours, you'll have a hard time parking. They do have a lot of tables inside and very comfortable. Staffs were great and friendly. Food was EXCELLENT! It's a little pricey, but I say it's worth the eat if you haven't been. It's higher quality than most places for sure. We even saw the owner as he came by to check on our table. No alcohol, and thats fine with us, but we did see another table brought their own. Not sure if that's really allowed or they are closed friends of the owner. Check it out!
Delicious dishes. Lobster miso, was amazing.
