REVIEWS OF Eagle's Lighthouse Cafe IN Hawaii

Jared Novotny

Wasn’t impressed. The sandwiches were big, but nothing special. The macaroni salad was disgusting. Next time, we will just keep driving to Hilo to eat.

NanaLou S

The sandwiches are generous enough to feed two adults! Very tasty!!! As touristst we have returned several times and were eagerly welcomed back!!!

Brian Dole

Very generous sized cold sandwiches and heartwarming chili is great! Tons of sides and desserts available.

James Dodson

Best, biggest sandwiches ever!

Kevin LaVerdière

Great place to grab wraps before heading into the park for a day-hike.

Jody Bickle

Fun and friendly staff and great food!

Faith 1

Don't usually eat bread but I just had to try the Kanakatac sandwhich. Absolutely kalega!!! I can't wait for the next one. The staff are very friendly too and hospitable. Faithful to their kai made with 100% aroha.

Randall Hayes

Fly fly fly! Awesome company with awesome food! Check this out ok! Aloha!

Joe Harbison

We arrived at the volcano, elevation 3500 ft, in our shorts and shirts unprepared for the dampness and cold drizzle. Getting out of the car we recoiled at the brisk cold air but found a warm Hawaiian welcome in the Eagles Lighthouse Cafe. Our dampened spirits were quickly thawed by coffee and Dijon

David Alan

This is the worst place to eat on the big Island ... ,JUST bad food with the smallest portions . ,Unfriendly people work at this creepy restaurant .. ,GO next door to the OHELO Restaurant for a good meal . ,JUST don't go to Eagles cafe or you will REGRET IT TERRIBLE .. ☆

Michele Kleinwolterink

Excellent coffee

Joshua Fawcett

My wife and I stopped off here before a day in the National Park. This was a great place to get a quick sandwich before spending a day hiking and exploring. The food was decently priced, service was quick and friendly, and the location was convenient at just a few minutes outside of the park. I'd definitely recommend it for a quick trip before heading in. You can get a pretty nice little picnic lunch here to bring with you.

Stephen Watkins

Very good for breakfast especially if you're down near the volcano since there are very few options close by. Calm atmosphere and outdoor seating. Friendly staff.

Donald Mulliken

Great food really good customer service and waiting time is 10 times faster then most restaurants

Sean Meyn

Food is ok. Atmosphere isnt so great. Seating is on road. Christian imperialist poster made me sad.

Chuck Dee

Fake eggs with spam for breakfast..yum (yuck)

Federico K. Kawashima

Good sandwich but smells bad.

Chaoran Yu

Fresh and hearty breakfast. Convenient location close to Volcanoes National Park.

Peter Sepulveda

I love this place. Great sandwiches, the house made bread is fantastic. The bean salad is amazing. Great food options and service.

Rachel Velez

Owned by our cousin...can't believe she's been open for 8 years and today is the first time we made it here. Would've taken a picture of our food but was sooooo good it was gone before I remembered....excellent service...ono food. ..must eat here again...on our way back from town today maybe...love it...proud of u guys

Sarah Whylly

The food was pretty good but the level of religious judgment was off-putting. The religious music and iconography was neat but the posters implying that if you don't adhere to the tenants of a particular type of judeo-christian belief then you are going to be smited was jarring. I feel as though I wanted to ask what tradition they were but the level of judgment coming off the walls, literally, made me afraid to ask. Food was moderately priced and they had a decent mix of traditional Hawaiian fare and sandwich-type food. Ordering area was very small and cramped and made it confusing. Guy taking the sandwich order didn't seem to have a lot of patience with our lack of familiarity with the menu.

Lorraine Hufnagel

Best sandwich ever in Hawaii!

Nathan Sherwood

Great food, friendly staff. Sandwiches are huge, and daily specials are amazing. Better save room for desserts. They make homemade pies, tarts and custards!

SH

Very nice hosts and nice price, even have hot water for cup noodles.

Bill Ostrowski

Best sandwiches in Hawaii. Staff is super friendly.

Cpt LeCol

Great Sandwiches! Awesome Chili. Perfect place to chill after long lava hikes.

Jeffrey the Barak

Delicious fare in a delightful tiny town.

Rafay Syed

Great food

Vidhya Dinakaran

Very good place for quick bites.

Bruce Tucker

Google said we visited but we never been there. HELLO Google

Melissa Vasey

We came here on the recommendation of a local lava guide. The food is super cheap for Hawaii, and the egg sandwiches are greasy in the best possible way. Very very casual setting with outdoor seating only.

Virgie Barber

Sincerely nice people. Food fresh and delicious. Very pleasant and welcoming

Nicolas El-Hage

Good basic breakfast options and large deli sandwiches to pack for a hike at Volcanos National Park

Phil Robinson

Cozy, reasonably priced, really good haven for Volcano park goers, quick breakfast, super friendly!

Peter Kalliney

A nice place for a quick bite with outdoor seating. They don't sell beer but you can bring a bottle from the store on the other side. We got the meat loaf and char siu chicken and they were both very good. The meat loaf was slightly better though

Donald Riedl

Excellent sandwich, definitely the best food we've had on the island so far. Taking the long way across the island so that we can go back

Gale Terrill

Excellent food and prices right outside of the park. Picnic tables are the only seating. No inside seating but who wants to sit inside on beautiful Hawaii. Had the made to order deli sandwiches for lunch today and will go back for breakfast. Fast and friendly and accommodating service.

Tanya Kane

Great stop after visiting Volcano. Staff is super helpful. I had the Lau Lau :)

M Chun

Food freshly prepared. Clean. Generous portions. Friendly service. Good assortment of hot dishes(laulau is good, quiche...), sandwiches, salads, great desserts, and snacks. Two daily specials from roast pork to spaghetti. You order n pick up ur food and eat in an outdoor lanai. Short wait during busiest times.

Dakoda Mathison

Its realy good

Scott Taylor

Very tasty sandwiches!

Bruce Schafer

Very nice big sandwiches with fast service.

Mark Passmore

Wonderful food. Nice people. Super Close to Volcanoes Park.

Balaji Kalaimani

Fresh, tasty sandwiches. Quick, friendly service. No indoor seating though.

S J Flemick

We had the most awesome traditional lunch here on a Big Island tour. Yes the photo isn't what you expect - but for Australians wooden water tanks are unusual - we have corrugated iron tanks

christina harper

Went for coffee and they only serve coffee, black. There was no flavored espresso coffees which is what their website says they offer. Ordered a slice of pie and it was mediocre. I didn't order a sandwich but they looked huge and delicious. Very tiny place with outdoor eating.

Brittany Nicole

Run by an adorable mother and son combo, this little shop had good food and great, friendly service! Would come back on our next trip.

Ben

Great value breakfast and lunch in an otherwise expensive area. It can be a slight wait around lunch time, but we went back and waited the next day so that speaks for itself.

Mitch Izabel Rose

Went for breakfast because it was the only place open, breakfast (at least) was sub par at best, even when eating in food was served in styrofoam containers. The coffee was quite weak, the inside of the cafe is covered with an excessive amount of biblical references and "save your soul" information. Most of this I find possible to forgive but when I was sitting outside starting to eat my breakfast I realized that it wasn't talk radio being played overhead, it was a "soul saving sermon". I really don't have a problem with folks celebrating their own religion so long as it is hurting no one, but this place is so saturated in Christianity that I was extremely uncomfortable.

Maryam Saeedi

Really good fish burger!

Marc Winters

Great food at a good price. And nice owners on top of it

Marjorie Maas

Delicious, hearty portions. Beautiful desserts and pastries. Friendly staff and owner. Enjoyed the Christian vibe.

John Schreiner

When i went there it was an amazing view i loved it

PS massage

We were starving and this place was rated 4.5 stars so we back-tracked 10 mins to get there

Mel Bail

This is not a real cafe. They serve Nestle coffee and no espresso even though there is a big sign outside that says espresso. Go here only for food not coffee. Had the croissant breakfast sandwich and it was not bad.

Corinne Wells

Excellent (HUGE) sandwiches. Great for taking to the national park or to the beach. Super friendly staff. Enormous baked goods. Love this place!

Debbie Soares

God is good! He created this beautiful family to share there "ONO" food with us mahalo Ke Akua!

Ryan Sykes

The food here is decent. The Jesus music blaring on the busted speaker is torture.

Bill Holt

Shrimp plate messy but very good

C L

Perfect hot food for the nice and cool Volcano weather. Nice food option and roadside location in Volcano village.

Craig Kekahuna

Under new owners the place looks awesome also the changes that has been made is amazing food is awesome so cheap the sandwiches is huge owners pass out goodie bags I feel like in my own home

Evan Tishuk

Simple and satisfying.

Khyle Taylor

Huge, delicious deli sandwiches. Great spot. Great service.

Wayne Johnson

Great sandwich, my wife had to get a doggy bag they were so big.

Chris Northrop

One of the few places to eat in Volcano. BIG sandwiches. One is enough for two people. Closes at 5:00.

Bt Anderson

Outstanding family run breakfast and lunch stop. Food is 100% Hawaiian! However, the family provides so much love and laughter in the food, you can't go wrong! I had the Lau Lau plate lunch my wife had a breakfast bowl. Too much food to finish!

Liam Doherty

Simple little take away with good food and decent prices. Outdoor picnic tables.

David Liney

Good, home style food

jkaposi

Espresso coffee my ass.....out of a vending machine.

Jerry Taylor

Fish was awesome, but the wife's pizza was only warm, and wait staff wasno where to be seen. Wanted to order more wine but......

Matthew Bart

Good deli type food for great price and the sandwiches are huge

kubojiri360

The atmosphere and staff is just awesome! The owner really made me feel welcome and really expressed the true meaning of Aloha!

Sandeep Paulraj

Make sure you visit this place. The food is amazing. My wife and I ordered the fish Burger and chicken parmesan. Both had a very unique taste. While we were there we could hear others commenting on their dishes. Everybody seemed very satisfied with their meals. This place is outside the Hawaii Volcanoes National Park.

Joey Kaniaupio

Good food nice people too...desserts are awesome!

Cristi Fields

Cranberry Mac Nut bread is always great!!

Bart Heffron

Great little eatery for breakfast bowls and sandwiches.

Shelly Highsmith

Great place! Amazing sandwiches and home baked goods. It's a family run cafe with very friendly service. Cute outside seating. We ate here several times during our stay.

Jonathan Trowbridge

Breakfast bowl is delicious :)

Rex Seeley

Nice place easy to get to in volcano on the way to or from the volcano's national park. The people are great and the sandwiches were big. They had a very playful kitten in back of the building. The prices were reasonable.

Brookelyn Bridge

Delicious, fast, friendly, well priced. Loved it!

Manuel Then

Seems to be called Eagle Lighthouse Cafe now. Had delicious breakfast there and Musubi takeout. Also, try the bread pudding!

kenneth mcintosh

Small cozy lil place with surprisingly good food! Great sandwiches to take on a hike in volcano village!

Danika Danker

Local, family-friendly and great prices. The staff here was super friendly and recommended local things for us to see. They have a wide selection or local answer deli items and baked goods.

Longfei Fan

The sweet sour spare pork rib is great!

Kelsey Mccalla

They DO NOT close at 7p. Beware! They close at 5p and refuse to change any social media to their correct hours. I give this zero stars.

Joel Weimer

Great deli sandwiches! Bring your appetite because sammies are huge.

Gerald

Excellent food! Great portion size! A few more condiments would be nice, but all in all, a nice cozy place. If you are religious and you've skipped church, stop by the Eagles lighthouse for a sermon. I noticed the same phrase in a few places about not worrying, and simply to just pray your problems away. But I also noticed lots of security cameras suggesting that the Lord may not stop criminals with just prayer. But absolutely excellent food!!

Curt Dodds

Great breakfast sandwiches and good coffee!

Clyde Yamasaki

Great food, nice atmosphere, good location. Been eating lunch there every time we have a job building houses in the area.

Edwin Breithaupt

The best sandwich on the whole island

Sylvain Planquelle

Great finger food..good ingredients.. definitely would recommend

Martha Brahm

Quick, tasty and reasonable

Jim Flanagan

Great sandwiches and very friendly people. Definitely try the cranberry macadamia bread

Jonathan Sudler

Family run meal counter in Volcano. Excellent value for everything they make. 1 sandwich is plenty big enough to share. Joyce and her family are wonderful with their customer service and it’s a great local experience to relax on the covered seating area eating great food and talking story with neighbors and travelers alike.

Sophia Nicole Sharkey

Just stopped by after our volcano tour, great little place! Quick service and food was great, I had the veggie chili soup and my husband the special Lau Lau plate. The lady there was so nice!

Zan M

Around the back of the store. Outside picnic tables are covered, clean and Padded! Local style food. Daily specials which we ordered. Hearty, tasty, and enjoyable. The soup of the day was Portuguese Bean delicous. The had sandwiches, too.

Dina Uldall

WoW! Great sandwich for lunch to go ... But g enough to share.

Christopher Vaal

The food was great and the service - top notch!! Loved it!!

Stella Viktoria Schieffer

Simple street kiosk with outdoor seating. Good to grab a quick breakfast before heading to the national park. Coffees, sandwiches, cakes and fried rice.

Pk Mercado

Lovely, quaint and the food is great. Happy vibes all the way around.

Chuck Cook

It was pouring rain and we were hungry when we stumbled upon the Eagles Lighthouse. We had to wait in a line to get to the little counter. It was an effort to get in. The menu was limited and some items were sold out, so why 5 stars? The food was great and well worth the wait. Staff was very friendly and helpful finding good substitutes for items they were out of. The reason for limited food was that everything is fresh.

Elena Glass

Fast and not expensive breakfast.

Matt Pesci

Good breakfast

Jennifer Dattolo

A sandwich shop in town where they make all their sandwiches in front of you. Not the best selection, but a nice quite place to have lunch. They play gospel music. You can feed the birds outside while you eat.

Zach Helgren

Super friendly, fast and delicious! One sandwich, on homemade three nut bread, is the size of two normal sandwiches. They are piled high with meat, veggies and cheese. For just over 10 bucks, you cannot beat this place.

Mary Kroeger

Go coffee, fast service

TJ Michaels

Small, clean, well-run local eatery with the friendliest staff EVER! Family-owned, fresh homemade food. We live nearby and eat there several times a week. Perfect spot for breakfast or morning coffee. Lunch is good too!

Mary Morrow

Friendly folks, delicious sandwiches with accompanying salads, and the best pecan tart ever!

Daniele Lord

Delicious, great price. Highly recommend!

Darlene Cardon

We had some delicious breakfast sandwiches here. Really good!

Rachel DeGennaro

Such a great lunch stop, cute place, good food, nice people, served our group very timely

Steven Garman

Friendly, reasonable prices, and large portions. Recommend this place for a quick bite.

Amir Avnit

Friendly, quick stop for food and drinks. Big parking lot, plenty of sitting room when heading south from Hilo. Limited menu, but good food and reasonable prices. We stop there often after a day in booming metropolis of HILO on our way home down south.

Alyssa Fehrenbach

Amazing chili that comes in bread bowls

David

Stopped by after exploring Volcano NP, looking for a local bite. Did not disappoint! Had a sandwich, which was loaded with all the fixings and it was delish... and HUGE! The folks were pleasant and welcoming as well.

Andrea Shaw

You want really good food? Come here! Amazing food, great prices, friendliest establishment on the Island! The service is fast, it is clean, and just all around wonderful!

gloria bellin

Awesome food! The bread is so good- sandwiches are huge- two meals worth. We have been recommending this little gem to everyone.

chris gray

Thought i was going into a food coma after eating that sandwich! Delicious!!!

Douglas Pase

UP FRONT, this is a TINY place, with out door seating, where you order your food from a tiny cafeteria-style counter inside. If you are looking for a sit-down restaurant with 5-star waiters and white table cloths, this is NOT your place. HOWEVER, for a lunch counter this place is EXCELLENT. All of the food I've had has been great. The sandwiches are large and fully stuffed with fresh meats, cheeses and fixings, the desserts are delicious, as are the soups. Their breadfruit salad (a bit like potato or macaroni salad) is also good. My personal favorite is a sandwich with cranberry mac-nut bread. The staff (all two of them) are quiet, but friendly and efficient. Any time I'm in that area, that's where I get my lunch.

Jullyan Green

They have great sandwiches and they're huge!

Ethan Plunkett

Great small, short order cafe. Excellent breakfast bowls and coffee. Recommend for anyone about to head to the national park!

Jake Weaver

Excellent bread bowl, the sour dough was on point. Macaroni salad was delicious. Prices were as expected. The owners are clearly Christian as this is made very apparent through the music and decor. As a Christian my self this was not a problem, but though I would include the heads up for any satanist looking for a killer bowl of chilli.

G Ho

Great food!

Sebastian de Brun Mangs

Great fishburger for 10$.

Aubrey Turner

Nice place for lunch, just outside volcanoes national Park. Nice staff. Food was tasty. I enjoyed the Char Siu Chicken, which was sweet and tangy, and very tender. Ordering on a busy day was interesting, with a small space to step in to order, and then you carry your food out to eat on the covered picnic tables out front. Cool local place.

Matthew Meinel

Sandwiches large enough to split. Great value relative to other options nearby

David Petercheff

Great food for great prices in Volcano village!

Nicholas Doran

Great food. Large sandwiches. Family of 6 ate lunch and delicious dessert for under $45

Dale Davidson

Had the turkey wrap. A lot of meat, plenty of cheese. The sauce was very good.

Yukiko Northon

Great stop for a quick bite and rest break. The Ono burger was very good and my kid loved the spaghetti special!

Nathan Bylett

A simple cafe for a bit to eat or a coffee. Place is quite small, but there is plenty of outdoor seating that is covered.

Mark Wolfe

Nice place

Elizabeth Crook

We just grabbed some breakfast foods and hot chocolate. Prices were very reasonable!!! Great decor with scripture verses!! We will stop here more often and try some food...it all looked good!

Carlene Carlson

The best little gem for fast, home-made, comfort food. Even my young boys loved the chilie. Delicious!

Pakka ,Chubz

Great food!! Friendly staff, will be back!

Alyssa Lambert

Daily special was not good. Rice was over cooked. Potato salad was bad. Maybe the sandwiches would have been better.

Angela Bergevin

Warm, and welcoming with amazing food for days. A must stop visit on your Volcano tour.

Joanne Leger

Fresh sandwiches in an open air/picnic table seating style. Order inside and eat outside

Dar Pau

Definately buy the chili bread bowl!

Jonthen Turner

This small little family owned place is AMAZING! the BEST sandwiches on theisland. Oh and let me tell you about the desserts they are so ONO ( Delicious) make sure this is a stop on your way through volcano!

John Gaddis

Excellent sandwiches (food) and very friendly staff.

Peter Strickland

Such a fun place for breakfast. Really great food.

Brittany Howell

After Leaving the Volcano, we were really hungry and not wanting to drive 40 mins to Hilo. So we decided to try Eagle’s lighthouse Cafe, and it was really good. The sandwiches are big enough for two people to split. $10.50 gets you a large sandwich, $7.25 gets you a wrap with chips. $2 for a bottle drink. Brownies are $3 but they are huge and really good. Cards and cash are excepted. Bathrooms are a few steps away but really clean.

Leah Cole

Delicious sandwich, eh ambiance. Great for a quick bite

scott rooks

Food was good and the service good but they need a bigger place to take orders. Portions are huge.

Rajendra Singh

Came here 3 years ago and had to revisit. They make the best Portuguese bean soup and the best sandwiches on the island. They do half portions on sandwiches - they're huge so half might be enough. Lovely staff and there's a place to sit and eat outside with shelter.

Nicole Leonard

So you have basic wraps and stuff here but they also have local Hawaiian specials. Cute, cheap, very relaxing place to sit after a day in Volcano National Park.

Kathryn Pierce

Surprisingly cheap and yummy food

Maribeth Pili

Carefully prepared, large portions, taste great and awesome prices !!

David Deriso

Limited breakfast options but decent.

Joshua Joshua

What a great experience. Great sandwiches and plenty big. The German chocolate cake with macadamia nuts was to die for. As most have said the people who work there make the experience. The pastrami was great. I would’ve gone there for every meal if I could!!!

Ken B

Been going there a few years now, it doesnt disappoint. Family owned and run, it shows in the pride with which they prepare their meal. Grest dsily specials too. Try the Ono sandwich, or the turkey between their fresh baked cranberry and nut bread, delicious! Aloha, ken Beggs

Trista Crass

One of those rare places where everything is cheap and good. Breakfast sandwiches are greasy and super tasty, the coffee and soup is always good, and the baked goods are always fresh. Just a cool place to chill and watch the birds.

Bailey Donohoo

Absolutely amazing! Husband and I came here on four different occasions during our stay in hawaii and each time the service and food were fantastic!!! We tried many of the daily specials, breakfast, breads, and desserts and we're MORE than satisfied with all! Delicious food, large portions and reasonable prices. Loved the family environment. :) Will go again next time we are in hawaii!!!

Adnan

Nice little family run place at the volcanoes. Reasonable price, plenty of food. Kindest staff.

David Makizuru
