As you know, we don't usually stop to give evaluations when they are positive and we usually do it only if we have had a problem or issue...
This Fish Shop corresponds to the category of Seafood restaurant.
Fried seafood was good. Blackened seafood was overcooked. Steampot was bland and pedestrian. Items were missing, soup and corn never showed up. Pretty pricey for what you get. Wouldn't make a special trip to come back.
Friendly staff. Good variety of food. Great outdoor space.
Lobster bisque is the best!
Top notch cod fish. Good sangria
Best seafood around. Both indoor and outdoor dining are great options. Friendly staff with great recommendations on what to try.
We call Flanders to make sure they had the crab legs and whole belly clams. The person said they did. Great! "We'll call back in less then 5 minutes," "she says ok." We already had 6 orders written down. Needed to confirm on the crab cakes, crab legs and alfredo. 9 people, hanging out, ready for some food, conversation and laughs. We call back I'd say less then 5 minutes. "I'm sorry we're closed for the evening" WHAT? You close at 9, it was 7:45. This isn't the first time this place has let us down. But it will be the last.
Back in the Flanders area for Thanksgiving so I go to FFM with family to have our favorite hot lobster rolls. Wow, delicious in hot butter. You take the mound of buttery lobster meat from your hot little casserole dish and stuff your perfectly butter toasted frankfurter roll. You savor every single bite. And with it we ordered their awesome french fries. Treat yourself for the holidays and all year long. Oh and try their Calamari also a favorite. Large but quaint dining room and comfortable bar. Have a cocktail and an appetizer. Enjoy life. JT
Take it from a New England native...one of the BEST seafood restaurants you will ever go to...just do it...Taylor and company will take good car of you...been going here for over 30 years with 2 wives, 2 xwives, several girlfriends...latest loves the place
Food was good. Staff was super pleasant. The kids menu should have more seafood options. Maybe like a small portion of cran legs or a Lazy Lobster but with less lobster and more kid friendly veggies. Over all, I would return but without the kids.
Great seafood menu, good beer list, friendly staff. Fresh whole fish on ice too, to go if that's your thing
Flanders was the BEST part of our vacation! My family would pick up dinner here daily while camping up the street (living like Kings and Queens!). And our 13 year old daughter is picky and was thrilled with all of the delicious seafood dinners available. I can't say enough about this place. It is the thing I miss most about vacation since we live in a rural area in PA and have to cook for ourselves usually. Also, one evening when my dinner order was running late, the owner so generously came over and gave me a shrimp cocktail to keep my happy...it was the classiest...most American thing I have witnessed in a LONG time! There really are still good people out there! Best Restaurant Ever!!!!!!!!
Excellent food. The lobster pot pie was great. Plenty of meat. Service was good too.
Classic new England seafood, best around
Amazing lobster rolls, clam fritters, and staff! Food was well priced for the quality. My boyfriend's first lobster roll and it was "out of this world"!
Great food,fere prices.
Awesome seafood. I love the boullibaise! Loaded with shrimp, scallops, clams, mussels, lobster and AKC! Absolute steal!
We had the coconut shrimp and fish and chips. Excelllent! The shrimp were huge.
Fresh and delicious seafood.. eat in our catch for fresh seafood for home... out door seats 4 the summer time ... great brunch menu... lobsters Benedict my favorite .. haven't found a local place that could take back the #1 spot.. TAMMY the bartender make the best bloody Mary's.. especially if u like it hot...
We stopped in for an early Sunday brunch. Their broth based (non-creamy) clam chowder is the best I’ve ever had. We also ordered bloody Mary’s and lobster Benedict. Yes, lobster! Both were incredible! The service and ambiance were also outstanding. This is our new go to brunch spot in the area.
Fish market and restaurant. The service is very good. Seafood is prepared the way you want it. 5 Dollar Tuesday. You cannot go wrong.
If you like seafood then stop by Flanders when you are in the area. You won't be disappointed
Very awesome restaurant, the prices are great, the fish is incredibly fish and the wait staff is very attentive. :-) Overall great experience, I know I will be back. :-)
Very good food. Nice sized portions. Reasonably priced for the area.
I love the food here. Never disappoints. Quality service, quality food. The clam chowder is delicious.
I visited Flanders July 5, 2019. The food wasn't bad, but the maid didn't apply "cappy hour" discount to my bill. Eventually she did, but it spoiled the rest of my time in this place. I don't like the dishonest service.
Amazing seafood for great prices!
Good as always, nice waitress and wait sraff
This place was AMAZING!! So fresh, king crabs legs were sooo good, portion size was perfect! Service was as so friendly and cordial!! If I could give 10 stars I would!! Definitely will be back! ❤️
Flanders Fish Market & Restaurant is just amazing . I love their lobster also no doubt the staff is super efficient and kind.
Absolutely wonderful service and amazing food
I spend 10 months a year in Niantic, and this is our favorite restaurant...period. Great food, great people, the best seafood counter, all in one!
Friendly folks but my sea scallops were mushy and not very good. I doubt I will ever go back.
This is a “go to”local favorite to dine at on a weekend night or just about any day after work. The volume of business that Paul Formica and his family does is testimony to the fresh delicious meals of many choices on the full menu. The entranceway provides a fresh seafood counter if one wishes to purchase for ones own pleasure at home. One of my personal favorites is their crab dip which is truly delicious. Reasonable prices, pleasant wait staff and the Formica Family makes this spot a town must.
Had the flouder it was fresh and cooked perfect
Great place! By far the best New England clam chowder I have ever had! Would be five stars, but a little overpriced. Service and staff are excellent. Parking is tough, but no fault of the restaurant. I will definitely come back every time I'm in the area.
The staff was very nice, polite, and friendly, but the food wasn’t that great. I stopped here to eat with a bus group, on our way to Foxwoods casino. They prepared a buffet lunch which included shrimp, lobster, medallion steaks, garlic mashed potatoes, coleslaw, blackened chicken and corn on the Cobb. Perhaps it’s just my personal taste, but I found most of the food a bit bland.
Fish BLT was awesome, as was seafood platter, friend had to send back her really tuff lobster, replaced at no cost wih really good stuffed portabella mushroom. A bit pricey, staff attentive and very nice.
Stopped in for lunch and grabbed some fresh seafood on my way out. Overall a great experience.
We had our wedding reception at Flanders Fish Market. It was small, only six of us but Amber never missed a beat! She was attentive but didn't hover, answered all of our questions and we thoroughly enjoyed her easy-going spirit. The food was of course INCREDIBLE! We know where to get great seafood and have for years...that's why we chose FFM for our special day!
Great seafood, service and drink selection
Good fresh food, excellent service
Wow we're we surprised. The prices were reasonable and the portions were big. They had all our favorites served hot and speedy to our table. Yum
Good food but pricey.
Not good there was poop in men room on the floor. Back bathroom and step in it was a bad dinning experience.
First timer! I've been hearing people rave about this place for years, finally went! Good beer, great seafood, great atmosphere. Went for brunch. I had the tuna burger, my fellow diners had the lobster roll and grits. We were all very satisfied and definitely would return.
Their fried seafood platters were good. Was really looking forward to their bouillabaisse but there wasn’t much fish and the rest of the seafood was over cooked.
Fried Clams and french fries. Sweet tea on ice. Our waitress was Kathy with over twenty years on the floor. Thank you so much for your service you made our month. All the food was great and the experience was fulfilling and enjoyable.
Great local eatery, fresh fish and seafood. Chowder is to die for, clam fritters are one of our favorite appetizers, love the blackened cod or scrod. Always excellent! Highly recommend.
I used to love going here. Last and final time I went, I ordered clam strips only to find out they were out of clam strips. I ordered something else, out of that too. Asked the server to check what they did have and she never came back. How can a damn fish market run out of seafood items early in the evening? I'll never go back!
They have a fantastic Parmesan Crusted Swordfish!
Grest food and service!
In town for vacation and this was recommended to us. While the staff was friendly the food left little to be desired. The cold lobster roll had about a tablespoon of lobster salad and I counted 6 fries. The pasta Formica had 2 shrimp with the tails still on a couple small pieces of sausage and chicken. Too overpriced for what was given.
Very very good. First time there. Looking forward to visit again
Amazing staff and never a bad meal
Terrible buffet for Mother's Day. All tasted the same, veggies floating in olive oil, dried carrots, bloody tough prime rib. Barely any seafood couple fish casseroles. Soup all veggies on buffet. Biggest ripoff not what we remembered eating there in past. Did not even mention. the drinks, overpriced and not good and not even a celery stalks in bloody Mary.
Outstanding fresh Seafood and Service to match. Their seafood gets delivered twice a week. You can eat at the resturant or buy fresh Seafood at their market
The amount of good reviews is pretty telling already, but I still feel obliged to write this review to show my appreciation of how tasty the food is. The claim strips, stuffed shrimp, steamed muscles, every item we ordered totally blown us away. Of all the seafood restaurants we've been to, this one is no doubt the best. Will definitely go back even though we live in Boston.
Good food, easy parking. Service was very good.
Awesome food!!! Get there early or wait in line, always busy.
Excellent food and great service. It was the perfect place to celebrate my daughter's birthday.
$20 hot lobster rolls are fab! Garlic potatoes are the best!
During an out of state work trip, I asked for a seafood recommendation. My boss didn't disappoint. I started the meal with the RAW menu items: crab claw, shrimp, and oyster. So fresh and delicious. I had a salad with no dressing. #greens. For dinner I had the Cappy's combo which was A LOT of seafood. I was so full. Of the blackened or broiled options, the server suggested broiled. It came with a butter dipping sauce. Great seafood. Busy place!
Fresh food. Delicious. Nice wait staff.
Excellent food. Loved it!!
Took parents there. We all enjoyed our meals. Service good.
The fried clam strips were a humongous portion and perfect. The tartar sauce was good as well as the fries.I ate it all, even though it was way more than expected...it was just too good. The wait staff were very nice
Food was good. Fried fish good a little greasy. Calimarie good. Had a good beer selection. Cole slaw was good. Prices reasonable. Is a clean place , service was quick and holds alot of people. Close to highway if you're traveling.
Great tasting food and wonderful service
Was very impressed with this restaurant. A nice location, town is nice, restaurant in a bit of a cramped space until inside. The service was very well and friendly. A couple missed orders such as drinks, but nothing major. Had a lobster roll that was made to perfection. Very delicious and straightforward to how it should be. Great beers and appetizers as well. At the end was weirdly charged for extra meals which was said to be a mistake. A little strange but was fixed anyways. Would recommend to all.
It was exceptional as usual I got the lobster pot pie it was creamy and the crustless sweet the crust was sweet
Best seafood on the East Coast scallops as well
It's okay. Niantic appears to be a place where getting seafood that isn't fried is near impossible, so it fits the bill for that. The scampi was unimpressive and barely held any spice. Service was so-so. For how busy this place gets, I'm surprised it wasn't better.
Awesome, Good food good service great service good drink lemon martini
Delicious seafood awesome back deck dining area... i ordered the Mediterranean pasta with sea scallops.. portions were huge i took more than half of it home.. little pricey but for the quality and amount giving its soooo worth the treat!
Brought a friend for the first time and now it's a fan fav soon to schedule a repeat. The staff was lovely, the food was perfect. We had a long wait when seated (to be fair it was a Friday Lent), but oh so worth it!
Always have a great meal here. Went foe the Sunday brunch and LOVED the lobster benedict!
What a fabulous spot just down the street from our campground!! Extensive and impressive menu, as well as a great beer, wine, and cocktail list. So many fresh and prepared things to choose from in the market!! We will surely be back...at least weekly!
This is a fun place to go to. Really nice surroundings, which we took advantage of today on a very sunny day. We have been here at least three times over the last couple of years, and I've had no complaints except today. Calamari was a little overdone and rubbery. Otherwise the food was just great. My wife loves to fish and chips here. Really big portions.
I love coming here for the fresh fish and shellfish. We have been coming here for twenty years and haven't had a bad meal yet. The wait staff is friendly and food great. The only drawback is that the main dining area is a bit cramped. Expect a wait if you come at a normal rush time or weekend. .
I've been going here since the 80s and the food is always fantastic. Fresh local seafood, killer cocktails and great service. I brought my husband for his birthday and we had a terrific meal. Highly recommend
Best seafood restaurant around! Clean, very fair pricing, and never fails to disappoint. My go for anything seafood and more!
It had good lobster bisque
Food is always good staff is friendly
I never give 1 stars. However I was extremely disappointed with steamers. The ceaser salad was great I will give them that. But when I ate steamers I kept crunching on sand. I literally had to spit out a mouth full of sand. So thinking it was just that one I tried another, same thing. May I add we order pick up 20 minutes away and 2 lbs of these. It was not cheap. We tried to redeem the steamers by cleaning then ourselves however it ended up being so much work just clean 1 as they were so filthy we gave up. We decided against taking them back as the drive was twenty minute there and back and we really just wanted a bite in our stomachs so we ordered someplace else.
Hi my name is Rachael Lazor and I ate at Flander's Fish Market & Restaurant. I'm not from East Lyme and had been kayaking for the day and was craving fresh seafood. I asked a couple locals from the area where to find such a restaurant, and was suggested Flander's Fish Market & Restaurant. I was told they have the best lobster rolls around. Staff was pleasant and sat me immediately. I ordered a tuna slider with wasabi aioli and lemon as an appetizer and a hot lobster roll with butter and capers. As a restaurant by the ocean, I expected a fresh, delicious seafood lunch. I can say I am thoroughly disappointed. The tuna slider made my throat and nose burn to the point where I was in pain for a couple minutes, and the tuna had a fishy smell and taste to it. I couldn't finish the whole thing and spit the rest out. When the lobster roll came, I was expecting an amazing hot roll of lobster and was hungry for something good this time. The lobster was lukewarm and was sitting in a huge pool of butter. It was also tough and chewy and did NOT taste fresh. My stomach started to hurt after finishing half of the meal and I'm upset this happened. This restaurant needs Gordon Ramsey's help.
Went there three days in a row, the food is delish and the prices just right
Flanders sure was delicious tonight..seared Sea scallops scampi over linguine...MmmMmm!
Service wasn't very good and either was the food. Used to be one of our favorite places. Not sure what happened
Haven't been there in years and I didn't really like it then all I can say is it hasn't changed .
They had very good lobster Mac and cheese bites and they had really good penne ala vodka
Absolutely perfect. Service staff was friendly and attentive. Kitchen was fast. Meals were hot. Soup was a little bit too peppery, but good Customers appeared to be enjoying what ever they were having. I would recommend.
We go here everytime we go to CT in the fall. Thier lobster bisque is the best we've had in CT.
Excellent seafood place. The New England cl chowder was just good, but the rest of the entrees were superb. Portions are generous without being huge. We left satisfied, not overly full.
Good food, great service!
Lovely oyster stew ! Pretty good fish sandwich. Okay service. We were a med size group.
Service was top notch. Quick to act and very accommodating. Oysters were delightful. Cold Lobster roll was good but not the best I have ever had. I prefer large chunks of claw meat were as this was broken up to the point that it was not decernable as to from what part of the lobster it came. Sweet potato fries were some of the best I have ever had. Crispy on the outside and moist and sweet on the inside with no burned or limp fries at all. Top it off with a couple of Summer Shanties and I had an overall delightful be it a little pricey meal at $60 including 20% tip. I will definitely be going back at my first opportunity.
Hired Flanders Fish Market to cater for my wedding and it turned out great! It was a pretty pricey, but you definitely get what you pay for. We had an outdoor wedding and they showed up with a portable kitchen. Food was really good. I recommend for sure.
Great priced lunch specials. $1 cup of chowder and $5 for fresh fish and chips! Both very good.
Wasn't our first time here. Excellent seafood restaurant. My wife had the fried clam strips and I ordered the fish and chips. Both cooked perfectly with just the right amount of crunch and not greasy at all. If you want to purchase fish and take it home to cook, there's always the market. Great place with a comfortable atmosphere.
I haven't been to eat at Flanders for a long time and was pleasantly surprised at how great our experience was. The food was great and the bloody marys were amazing. Service was great too. Only drawback was that this place does get a tad busy.
I had high expectations being a seafood lover, but this restaurant just disappointed me. Where can I start; They gave my daughter a dirty cup with lipstick stains everywhere, when I called my waiter she told me to do this review. She said maybe this way they learn to clean their cups. She told me she has told them about it and they still do it. Then my daughter tells me her food wasn't cooked properly; she had the NY Strip Steak with french fries, she is not a seafood person but wanted to support her mom. Just by looking at the NY Strip you can tell it was going to be a bad experience. Lastly, I order a surf and turf: NY Strip Steak and Stuffed Shrimps, I had to pay additional $6 for the shrimp and it was just ONE shrimp!!! This is my story, our experience, and our 1st and last time we'll set foot in that restaurant. Hopefully they will work on getting better.
Good food. Great freshness
Quick and friendly service received for my lunchtime visit on a weekday. Whole belly clams were very good. Fries were perfectly done and especially liked the mix of regular and sweet potato versions.
Excellent, superb, delicious, Everything and everyone AWESOME. AAAA++++
Fantastic service, hearty portions with reasonable prices
Best seafood ever. Whenever my family is in Connecticut, we make a trip here. The lobster bisque and the lobster potpie is to die for!! Go here, you won't regret it!
The seafood market has a good variety of seafood. Everything was fresh and clean. We bought Cod and cooked it at home. Very good. Staff was friendly and knowledgeable. Restaurant is connected to the market- always cars there! Check it out!
Great selection, easily stuffed myself trying to finish lunch.
Amazing take out food. Fresh fish, it was mouthwatering and melted in your mouth. Another amazing dinner
I love the creamy clam chowder got it to go. I think best in area
Always good food. Consistently good service. Just loud enough for families to feel comfortable. Eat outdoors under the umbrella in a nice evening... Don't forget good happy hour drinks too
Flanders is great excellently prepared food and if your looking to buy that piece of fish you cant find anywhere, just ask them they always have or can get you the less common fish.
Awesome fresh seafood and bright friendly staff. Lobster bisque is amazing and fresh fish to take home as well.
Basic seafood place. We went in the winter so it was off season and just not as good as it is in the summer. And the kicker is they didn’t have any cheeseburgers. They ran out of patties go figure. And I don’t really like seafood. But wife does so it wasn’t a problem for her.
Met grammar school classmate there for lunch. It was half way distance hour drive for both of us.. Beside having one of the best fresh seafood meals ever, the staff was fantastic. We were not rushed and we ate, drank and laughed for 2 hours... Thank you so much.
Great food
Best lobsta roll this side off orrs island. If you have to ask where is orrs, you don't know lobsta
Do yourself a favor, skip the horse and GET THE LOBSTER!!! If you want your wedding to be the wedding of the century...
Large portions of clearly fresh seafood, with an often-busy atmosphere that feels like a typical New England summer shanty - but it's open year-round. You can also buy fish if you want, plus there's stuff for those who don't like seafood. Heads up, though - you could be waiting a while on a busy night, and it gets fairly loud. Good overall experience, though - and, in my opinion, worth the extra money.
Gorgonzola cream sauce was disappointing. Rest of meal was ok.
We got a couple of take out orders and the staff was wonderful and the food was amazing they had so many options to choose from I will be returning again for sure
Food was good and prices reasonable. Went with Mom and family for Sunday lunch. Non-stop live music blasting in the dining room so you can't have a conversation and the band took no break. Avoid during the 3 hour music if you want to talk. Maybe take out the amps, very small place amps not even needed.
Delicious and great staff!
We had the Cappy broiled platter and the fried platter. This is my new favorite fish place. Clean, delicious cod and flounder. Shrimp and calamari were perfectly done. Portions huge, took home enough for a lunch tomorrow. I like the paper straws and recycled to go boxes.
Nice, great food perfectly cooked!
Wonderful lunch. My wife and I both had the fried clam roll. Clams were tender and sweet. Service was top notch. We will return.
Stopped in to Flanders Fish Market & Restaurant to try it out and was not disappointed. The waitress was very attentive and helpful, appetizers and entrees were delicious. I ordered the cod BLT and loved it!
Over cooked seafood rude waiter kids meals r def 4 toddlers $$$
Excellent fresh seafood!
All of the seafood was delicious and fresh! We highly recommend coming here!
I ordered shrimp scampi, that I thought came with the seafood rice, but got it with pasta. Perhaps I want clear and it was my fault, however, if the waitress asked me what kind of pasta I wanted I could have corrected her. There are a few different options for a choice of pasta. I didnt really care for the cheese in my scampi! I also asked for a kids menu, which another member of my party ended up getting for me since the server never brought me one after I asked. I ordered peanut butter and Jelly for my son and his bread was hard and stale ( they did take it off the bill). Not my best experience.
This place is wonderful! My drink was strong and well worth the price. My kids ate every last bite of their food which was served in a cute little boat . Hubby and I loved the fish we got and I loved the customer service . There's a bit of a wait to be seated on friday evenings but once we sat down they were pretty quick to serve us. We will be back !
The very best. People come from all over to eat at the famous Flanders Fish Market. Everything is fresh and delicious... but it’s not too fancy. Cappy and crew keep it family friendly. Whether is casual fish & chips and lobster rolls to the meals that are fit for a king/queen, you can’t go wrong.
Usually can't be beat. On our last visit, wife and I both ordered house fish and chips. She got a nice flakey thick hunk of fish, lightly breaded. I got a piece of shoe leather. We will return because we know this is an exception to the rule.
Amazing Food and Outstanding Service! Great menu with fresh seafood! The bar is well stocked and a Great draft selection. Definitely recommend the homemade cheesecake with Strawberry toppings!! Would DEFINITELY recommend to friends, colleagues and anyone in the area!!
Wonderful lunch specials Fish is always fresh. Service is good.
Best Lobster Bisque ever. ❤️
Great place great service and food, awesome deck to sit outside.
Best food and chips ever!
The food was AMAZING! The staff was AWESOME! We were served quickly by friendly staff that took great care of us! Will come again!
Great fresh seafood both in the restaurant and store. I went to pick up some fresh clams. There were several customers waiting and only 1 staff taking care of customers in the market. She worked as best she could to help each customer while I noticed other staff in what appears to be a kitchen that connects to their restaurant.
If you like greasy food this place is for you ! Ordered the lobster and corn fritters I’m still looking where the fish was ! A fish sandwich from McDonald’s would of been better of choice
We did call ahead seating. Please keep in mind that call ahead seating in no way reserves you a table however, it will shorten your wait time. We were seated five minutes after we arrived. Service was outstanding and the food is fresh and prepared with perfection. This restaurant / fresh fish market has been serving the community for over 30 years. The staff provided service with a smile and the food was served hot. The portions were excellent and tastefully prepared. My family and I highly recommend Flanders Fish Market where fish is not just battered but, where you can have it your way.
Food was delicious, priced right, courteous wait staff. We sat outdoors on a lovely day. Wish Bristol had a Flanders restaurant.
Had a 3lb lobster dinner only $50 and tasted so fresh... can definitely tell they keep their storage tanks very clean n balanced..
I agree with one of the reviewers when they said the portions have gotten much smaller. Last time I ate here I ordered the scallops with a side of garlic mash. It was more like a dallop of mash. Also, the scallops were very bland. I had to keep sprinkling salt. On the plus side, there lobster bisque was excellent. It had huge chunks of lobster, which I usually dont see at other places.
Very nice lunch served by attentive staff. The Fish and Chips was wonderful, with the fish cooked, but not dried out. Very tasty!
