Since they supply seafood to most of the local restaurants why wouldn't you go get food here? Perfect fried seafood every time. Only way it could get better is buying it off the boat. Nice seating area with beer and wine available. This is not a 5 star setting so as long as you go in with that knowledge you'll have a good meal. Some may find the menu a little pricey that's why 4 stars rather than 5.

I bought six live soft shell crabs at City Fish on a Saturday past only after having an in depth discussion with several of the managers/employees that the crabs would live in the refrigerator until Sunday when I wanted to clean them and serve them to guests. Unfortunately no such luck and the crabs were dead Sunday morning. I went back to City Fish Monday and instead of giving me a credit or anything (which I frankly expected), the manager on duty as he identified himself tried to tell me that they don’t guaranty that the crabs are alive, only that they are “fresh.” Foolish me but I thought there were only two choices for buying live seafood: dead or alive; I didn’t know that there was a third choice of “fresh.” He tried to convince me that cleaning and eating a dead but “fresh” crab was fine, which is utter nonsense and unsafe of course. I tried to explain that he was wrong (I have lived and sailed on the water for 50+ years and know BS about seafood when I hear it) but he maintained his crazy and unsafe position (note to readers-don’t clean and eat a dead crab-unlike Princess Bride there is no third category of “not quite dead yet.” Live crabs are either that or not). Bigger issue is that they would not even entertain for a moment the idea of standing behind their “of course no problem statement” that the crabs would live until Sunday in the refrigerator, which I explained was the only reason I bought them. So there are plenty of other options on shopping for seafood in the area (Whole Foods for one) and I have no intention of giving my business to a company that treats their customers so shabby and tries to peddle bizarre (and unsafe) ideas in an attempt to justify a mistake they made.

You're not going to beat the freshness of the seafood. In fact, Cityfish probably supplies your favorite restaurant. I've been getting my food here for over 20 years and it hasn't changed, always fresh always good. You have a few options, you can buy your food take it home and prepare yourself. You can buy your food already cooked in the takeout kitchen area. They also have an area now that you can sit down and eat your food . It's kind of like a takeout, but an area that you can eat. There's always at least one special going on, so if you're not sure what to get you can save a few dollars there. One of the best values is the staple fish and chips. Usually only around 12 bucks and you get A decent portion of fish and chips. Another good dish is the scallops and chips. A few dollars more but I was a goodbye. My entire family , even the kids , love the clam chowder here. If you want fresh seafood that isn't going to break the bank, you really can't beat City Fish. It's really nice that you can actually eat your food there now instead of having to go somewhere and take it home . It's always best enjoyed hot.

This place does not need a long review. It's simple. The fish is fresh, the prices are reasonable, there is a well kept separate eating space and the staff is courteous. Seriously. I wish all businesses had it dialed in like city market. I always look forward to their fish taco whenever I'm in Wethersfield.

A fish market with a take out counter and a place to eat it . Of course there's also a seafood counter. First tiimel back in a while and it's all the same . Order your food from the posted menu, take it out or eat in at the room up a few steo $ from the fish counter. The food is very good. Deep fried and packed up quickly. I always get fish and fries. There's a lot of fish and fries. Clean everywhere thanks for continues clean up by the staff. Parking is plentiful . Staff is helpful but fast.

Terrible seafood market. Nothing is labeled with origin, method of catch, or fresh/frozen history. A number of options looked really rough. I asked where the Swordfish was from and they said, "the ocean." Incredibly rude. I also asked to have a piece of Striped Bass cut a certain way and I got a very gruff and unaccommodating no. Prices don't match the quality. Avoid.

Im really upset... i was super excited to go bc im new in town... from the get go the cashier was rude. Me and my husband ignored it... we ordered 2 fish and chips... asked for lemon and extra tarter sauce. Extra tarter sauce costs which is completely understandable. When we arrived at home it was soggy and no lemon or extra tarter sauce! I was so hungry , i was like im still gonna eat it. But it gets better as im eating the fish, i found out the hard way that there were bones in it!!!! I swallowed 2 of them and spit out 2 more! Thanks for the warning!!! Oh wait i didn't read that on your menu nor was i warned by your rude cashier neither! I expected better from a fish market!!!! This was a let down to me

I ate at City Fish on a busy friday night, my husband and I ordered that belly clams and the fish and chips, along with a clam chowder. The food was not even halfway fried and was waaayy too greasy. My clams were so rubbery that some of them couldn't even be chewed and the "batter" had mixed with the excess grease and it formed a soggy paste-like coating that wasn't in the least bit crispy or fried tasting. And my husbands fish was so under cooked in the fryer that it could of been mistaken for sushi. As far as the clam chowder, that was watery and had a coloring or brown-ish beige and didn't taste one bit creamy. All of this for about $35 dollars. Thank You City Fish!! I Just hope I don't get sick from consuming under-cooked shellfish!

I like to go to a place a few times before i rate them, ok the water thing for those of you complaining get over it. Not being rude or inconsiderate, its a law the way its done there not being a full service..so anyways i have tried a few things off the menu and my expectations were met. Since this is a fish market with a partial dine -in and take out menu..every time I went fried or grilled it wa fresh. And the prices are on point for what you get...so whether you take out or dine -in...its a great place..pretty busy all the time..i dont mind the wait for the fresh seafood!!! Just wish there points card for take out food and buying seafood were separate..

This was my first time here I ordered the shrimp plate wow the clam chowder was on point. Also got some catfish to go. I will be back . I would have thought they would have made their own tartar sauce that package stuff was a bit tacky hopefully the next time I visit city fish could go the extra mile to consider making their own tartar sauce

Fish and Chips. The meal was great nice flavor quick service, I was there at 14:00 hrs so not a huge crowd. Not over priced. Was my first time back since my P&WA days 33 years ago. Being off the lunch hour and not quite dinner yet the meal had some extra deep fried oil left on. I will definitely go again.

Couldn't get anyone to tell me anything about the tuna they sell over the phone and was told to come in. I come in and find out they do not carry "sushi" grade tuna which is safe to eat raw. They wasted my time when they could have told me this on the phone. Edit...To be clear "sushi grade" was the term used the girl behind the counter at city fish and not me.

I am a 14 year resident of Bloomfield, Ct and just realized yesterday why I travel all the way to Cape Cod MA for Seafood! My beloved sister just came back to Conn after living in CA for the past 22 years. All she could think about was whole belly clams since they are very hard to find at a restaurant in CA. Rather than taking the 2 hour trip to the Cape, we decided to give Cityfish a try. They gave her mostly clam strips instead of whole bellies ( by the way, they need to change their oil because everything was dark brown) For $16.99, you'd think they could afford to give us a wedge of lemon & coleslaw...Nope! I ordered Fish & Chips. The batter they used was so bland and flavorless, The man who was dredging the seafood had no gloves on. I've had better fish & chips from Big Y and for less money! I Do Not Recommend City Fish for food! You'd be better off frying your own fish at home. Cook's Seafood....here I come!!!!

Great fresh fish...having said that, it would be a whole lot better if they seasoned the fish. And if you are going to charge for tartar sauce, how about making your own tartar sauce? Instead of Ken's brand...I know for a fact it cost you more to order the small cups of Ken's Steakhouse Tartar sauce than it would to make your own. I'll see how these crab cakes are tonight. Better be good!

City fish is an awesome place to grab a quick bite of seafood and I mean top notch . scallops Rock and their fish and chips plenty of it. Even got a cheeseburger on the side and that was good I highly recommend it and they have a restaurant where you can sit down eat what you ordered. and don't forget a deli that has the freshest fish you can buy and lobsters flown in from Maine. And the people there are so friendly.

Awesome service! I just wished the price for squid to be lower since it is a low demand seafood and usually squid is part of unintentional fishing (fished out of ocean when they actually want to catch other fish). Also it was stowed away in the back room(no access to customer) as the display area is full of other high demand fishes. Proof that squid is in low market demand.

Customer service doesn’t seem to be a top priority as they refused to quote a price over the phone. I’m not sure why this is a policy of theirs. As a consumer, I have the right to research and make an informed decision about what I’d like to purchase. And in this wonderful time of technology, I should not have to make a 25 minute drive just to find out the price of something. Very disappointed... and just makes me feel as though they do not really value their customers.

I've been coming here for years I absolutely love this place. Last week when I went they stopped giving customers WATER which I cannot believe because its Connecticut state law that you have to provide water. Unfortunately they think that by not providing water you will be forced to buy their water which is not even spring water but the core problem is they changed from coca cola products to Pepsi which everybody hates. They talk about not being a full service restaurant so why are the so greedy and forcing people to buy products they dont want. I've been coming for 20 years and as much as I love their food I am not going back until they change their thick headed ways. They're doing everything in their power to piss off long term customers. Guud luck. By the way you're stressing the employees because they have to deal with the abuse from the clients which I personally experienced. PS do yourself a favor stop being so greedy

I don't know what happened to City Fish but it has been going down hill. Today I bought 4 pounds of steamers and 1 1/2 lbs of cocktail shrimp. The steamers were so full of sand that they were unedible. I made steamers many times and never had this problem. The shrimp was no better then Stop and Shop shrimp at 1/2 the price. I've always been an advocate of City Fish but this is unacceptable. I through away everything and it cost over 50.00. Very disappointed

Called City Fish for lobster prices and I was told they do not divulge that information over the phone... what!!! Is this a trade secret or something? So thinking they may have the freshest lobsters at a reasonable price I drove 30 minutes, during rush hour, as I was planning a party and likely buying 15 or more lobsters. I arrive there and I don't see any lobster tanks and the price for the select sized lobsters are $13.99, $ 2 more than Stop & Shop which is 2 min from my house. Sorry, I will not be stopping here ever again.

I'm from Newport RI and no lobster sandwich is $30.00. I bought it but it wasn't very good, the bread was staile and the lobster had too much mayonnaise. Also I have never had lettuce at the bottom of my lobster roll....which it just makes the lobster seem more abundant in the roll... The chowder and the coleslaw weren't very good either. Honestly next time I miss the shore and want a lobster roll I'll go to d'angelos. At least I wont get ripped off.

Don't feel bad about skipping this restaurant. While the fish market is stunningly brilliant, the cooked food is very easy to ignore. I tried to give it a few chances by going back and getting different items. It didn't matter. PRO: Quick service Good in a bind Convenient local fish option CON: All the food is bland and yet somehow salty Fried fish just tastes like the frier Price doesn't seem to line up with the quality of food

I've been going there for years when the fish and chips only cost $2.50 and you buy one meal they will give you a keyring that they would punch a hole in after a certain amount of times you would get a free meal though with inflation the prices are higher it's still worth every penny the food is excellent the people there are excellent to the fish the crabs the lobster the clams and everything else is reasonably priced the owner is a great guy too he's never too busy to say hi so yes I recommend this place 100% you won't be disappointed

Could really be a cool place for dinner but they close too early. Took the family for dinner yesterday, ordered by 5:40 and was told we were the last ones to use the cafeteria seating. By 6:05pm the attendant asked us to leave before we were done eating. Just an unfortunately poor experience. I didn’t see steamed food either like peel and eat shrimp... they might have it but I didn’t see it. A steamed menu would be nice. I’m not a fan of steak fries, wish they had better fries, and onion rings. The Kens tartar and cocktail sauce cups are meager and way too small of a portion. Hope they improve the above. We would love to have a fun place like this on our frequent visit list. The cafeteria is very clean and nicely decorated.
