I LOVE Pet Supplies Plus! I stopped shopping at Petco and Petsmart because things at Pet Supplies Plus are extremely cheaper. I feed my dog Merrick, at Petco it is about $60-$65 but at Pet Supplies it is only $50-$55 (PLUS if they have a coupon it is even cheaper)! Not to even mention we travel 25 minutes to get to the one closest to us. We will always be coming back.

I have been here a couple of times and have been very impressed. The staff is EXCELLENT and very friendly and helpful. Unlike Petsmart, Pet Supplies Plus seems to be very well stocked. Even though Pet Supplies Plus isn't very close to where I live, they are now going to be where I go from now on.

Anytime we've been into the Southside location the staff has been nothing but rude and unhelpful. Perhaps they should be trained better on how to interact with customers. Just today, we stopped in to get crickets and the employee snapped at us because supposedly there's a 24 cricket limit because the truck hadn't arrived yet. As someone that has worked retail before, I can understand limits being placed on items. What I find unacceptable is the employees attitude about it. There should have also been signs posted informing customers of limitations. We are owners of two lizards and 14 tarantulas so we need more than 24 crickets. It is your employees attitudes that are forcing us to take our business elsewhere. We do not plan on returning any longer.

Called in to find out if they had frozen fuzzy rats. They put me on hold for 10 minutes and when I hung up and called back the girl admitted she forgot about me. Finally she told me yes they did have them. Came down and found out they only have fuzzy mice which are pretty different for feeding. Really irritated by this since we drove an hour to come. Also a bunch of their bettas were dead.

Unfortunately had a horrible experience at this location today. I understand fully the extra customer service needed on black Friday but to scold and watch a customer with every item they have in their cart and stalking every aisle they are in is not ok. Very disappointed with service. I spent over $125 dollars in this location today, but as I'm shopping the associates were also whispering behing my back. I have never felt like a criminal and so uncomfortable at a store. Will not return.

This was my first time at Pet Supplies Plus and it was very positive. The staff was friendly, helpful and knowledgeable, the store was clean, they had a wide, reasonably priced selection of dog food and supplies, and lots of fish. The free membership program seems to provide some nice discounts, and pets are allowed. They even have dog washing stations in the back. I will definitely be shopping there more in the future. It's a great local option for buying pet supplies at competitive prices.

As with other retailers like PetSmart and Petco, this place is interesting as far as the products it has to offer, but, as was fully expected, the prices are rough. I did, however, find a good deal on pressed rawhides for my dog. A bundle of 10in pressed rolls for $12, whereas that's more like $20 at other retailers.

Wow! We found our new go to pet store! We just purchased two fancy bearded dragons babies from here today. After looking at several stores over several days and online, we found what we were looking for here. The beardies have the most vibrant color that we were looking for and were calmer when handled. The store is careful about animal health and welfare. Cody and Jess were knowledgeable about each pet they had and their personalities. We made several visits to this store. Each time they spent ample time with us and professionally answered our questions and guided us on supplies. Unfortunately, they were sold out of the large reptile terrarium sets that we wanted to purchase(2). They hoped they would be on the shipment truck the next day, but the company was out of stock. The manager, Jess, did everything in her power to get us some combination of the materials we would need at a reasonable price so we could get our 2 new arrivals home. We ended up purchasing them somewhere else but still got our beardies here and we couldn't be happier. We were happy to find they had super clean bathing facilities for our 6 rescued dogs of various sizes and ages as well. Prices seemed reasonable to good! But even if something would cost me a little more here, this is where I would prefer to get it because of the store cleanliness and the friendly, knowledgeable and the effort of the staff. Thanks to Cody who started our journey with us and made us want to go back to the store. For the cashier/sales associate who always greeted us with a smile when we came in and remembered what we were looking for. And the manager, Jess, who never seemed to tire of us and worked so diligently on helping us make some Christmas wishes come true.

This place is amazing! Everyone was so attentive and made sure we found our way around well and knew where to get the things we needed. We found out they have a self wash station for your pets, and our two dogs loved it so much! They even provide towels so you don’t have to bring your own. And they had coupons attached to some products helping you save money! I love this place and we’re going to be coming back frequently for treats! They only thing they didn’t have was the specific Nutrena Loyall dog food we use for our dogs, but their selection was still enormous. And by the register they had handmade dog treats that our pooches loved.

Aside from the great service and selection, PSP offers some great stuff that definitely beats out the large chain stores. The washing station is awesome! I have a large black lab, and giving him an actual bath at home is next to impossible. Not to mention the gobs of hair hanging all over the bathroom when we're done! It was so easy to use all their shampoo and hoses instead of our bathtub, and cleanup was much easier! We just sprayed down his stall when we were done and wiped the hair off the drain. We signed up for their rewards program and we get tons of coupons off dog food and treats- a coupon for almost everyday with very little restrictions! (way better than competitor's rewards) We are now very loyal PSP customers!

I absolutely love this store. They have an excellent variety of food, treats, and toys. The thing I love most about this place is the staff. Every single person I interact with appears to love animals, and they are very friendly. They even know my pets name. For some reason they don't carry the Royal Canin moist food, so I have to get it at another store. When I go to the other store, both my puppy and I find it to be disappointing. It doesn't even seem like the employees at the other store even like animals.....it is just a transaction and they don't really seem to care, and lack customer service skills (Petsmart). At PET SUPPLIES PLUS, they go out of their way to genuinely help and care about their customers. My little puppy and I enjoy it every time we go there. I wish they carried that canned food that I use to supplement my puppies diet with. Then I would never have to go the other store! :) Thanks for doing customer service the right way! That is where I like to spend my money.

I previously gave this store a high rating, and my opinions on the store itself have not changed. It is still a nice store with a good selection and decent prices. However I doubt I will ever return due to a very uncomfortable experience with an employee. I drove out of my way to show my friend the pet store I liked, and we asked an employee if they had a certain item available. He stared at my friend and I constantly, and although he eventually helped me find what I was looking for, his responses were strange; delayed, short, and rude. After getting us the item, he walked off without saying a word, and it took a couple seconds for us to realize we were apparently supposed to follow to the cash register. We both felt creeped out and very uncomfortable, and I felt unsafe giving my phone number for my account. I was greatly disappointed by this experience, and weirded out enough to never want to return.

My new store for all my pet needs. They carry all the greatest brands, for the best prices I have seen. The store is clean and the staff is super friendly. Also, utilized the dog washing stations for both my dogs. The $25 5-dog wash punchcard is a steal. They supply you with everything you need or you can bring your own. They do Toenail Tuesday’s for those who need a clipping done. Also the food choice is crazy! I spent an hour at least googling some of the brands. Definitely a must stop for any pet owner.

I was thrilled to find this store arrived in town. They have many products that are not available at the primary franchise pet stores in the region, and I'd say better prices and selection than the privately owned little shops around. The customer service is excellent, I almost always receive voluntary offers for assistance from employees to help me find a product. In many instances, they go out of their way to help me find something, even looking things up/researching, or voluntarily informing me of a coupon for a product I was considering. Cashiers are friendly and make pleasant conversation. The store is clean, well laid out and easy to navigate. Lots of high very end dog foods as well as your more standard options (though I don't believe they offer the very "low quality" foods you'd find at grocery stores, which I actually can appreciate, as it demonstrates their value of providing quality). They have multiple options for pre-made raw in a small refrigerator and freezer section toward the entrance of the store. Examples being the Instinct Raw lines, Stella and Chewy, and Vital. They also sell Honest Kitchen and Stella and Chewy dehydrated foods. One entire long aisle/lane of the store is dog food. There is more in another aisle as well. There are also several pet care products such as grooming supplies, health care, pest control, leashes and harnesses, etc. The shop has an elaborate grooming service area. They offer services such as nail trimmings as well. I believe you can also self-serve and bathe your dog in the store. In the corner opposite of the entrance, they have small live pets such as hamsters, Guinea pigs, ferrets, birds, reptiles. It's a slightly smaller area and variety than the big franchise shops. If I had any complaint or otherwise less than stellar remark, it would be that there were times when I opted not to purchase some of the pet care supplies because I determined I could save a notable bit of money by purchasing it online. I did not tend to find that issue with the dog foods.

Pet supply plus is by far my favorite pet store in DSM. The staff is amazing and very helpful. I felt compelled to write a review today as the associate helping me, Jess, was very knowledgeable and was able to help me find the right food for my dog when I couldn’t remember which type of our brand we had started getting. They always offer to carry out the large dog food bags as well, which I know none of the other stores have ever offered, at least to me.

The staff here is always super nice, and they've always asked if I wanted help out to my car with dog food. The dog wash is really nice, it's always clean and well stocked. It's not too expensive either, I think it's 5 washes for $25 (I could be wrong but similar to this). My dogs are scared of the blow dryers, but I've seen quite a few dogs be comfortable with him. There are always a lot of towels stocked as well, and aprons for you to wear to avoid being soaked. The store is clean and well stocked.

I’m not sure of the name of the associate who helped me, but my dog had a growth pop on her tail and she was proceeding to eat it. The associate looked at the pictures on my phone, helped me pick out the right medical cone, and the antiseptic spray she recommended has done wonders in just a matter of two days! I no longer fear my elderly dog is going to die from this wound, as she has gotten drastically better. Any time I need any medical supplies for my dogs I will do so at this store only. Mildly pricier than petco or petsmart but much more selection and helpful service

What a great store! The staff are friendlier than any other pet store I've been in. They have an awesome selection of treats, food, and toys for dogs, cats, and birds. They also have a large assortment of items for fish, reptiles, and small mammals, and carry these cute critters as well. There is a dog wash and "community playroom" for pups to play in. The store itself is clean and well organized, the everday prices are competitive, and the sale prices are phenomenal. They aren't as big as the PetSmarts and Petcos but they have everything I need and even items the bigger stores don't (soft bulk dog treats, feed for wild rabbits and turkeys - who knew?!) and I will be a regular shopper.

Fantastic place to bring your dog in for a bath. I take mine at least twice a month and have never been disappointed. Everything is cleaned regularly, baths are sanitized after each customer, and soaps are always filled and ready to use! I love all the shampoo options as well from hypoallergenic to coconut scented oatmeal shampoo, there is something to fit any dog's needs. Staff is super helpful and will gladly get you anything, even if you just forgot to grab a brush off the shelf and have soapy hands. Highly recommend the dirty dog card if you have a pup that needs at least 1 bath per month. For $25 you get 5 washes, making PSP the absolute cheapest self service wash in the area!

Best place for reptile pet parents to get crickets and meal worms. Always great service from the staff. The store is organized and kept clean. Great in and out with what you need. Also order what you need if it's not in stock. Love that it's in our neighborhood and a small business we all should support. I don't have to run all over like with other big box stores. Thanks to all who have made this store the best in Des Moines.

Prefer this place over pets mart any day. Super cheap and convenient pet bath stations. Only annoying this is that you have to ask someone to turn on the dryer once or twice while you’re there. Staff is very helpful and knowledgeable about products!
