the great thing about aqua imports is that when you have something very specific you're looking for like I did they're the ones that will have it. I bought my newts and my shrimp there and all my animals are thriving. it's a real joy to care for such beautiful specimens. I even got some java moss too and the tank looks perfect. They have an excellent fish selection, and I've bought many pets from this store. However, the reptile room is a little depressing. Many of the reptiles have little else than a rock and a water dish to occupy them, and the room doesn't receive any natural sunlight - kind of sad for the animals. Hopefully they improve this situation. Other than that, it's a great store!

Based on the storefront it looks small so I was shocked at how much they have. Staff was super friendly and helpful...I pretty much knew what I needed but always nice to be offered help. Also not sure if it belonged to the owner or what, but there was a big, friendly, floofy dog there too, so bonus points for that.

Went here today to try to find supplies for a Paludarium I'm planning. I was very pleasantly surprised! Tom went out of his way to come find me to ask if I needed help finding anything. They had a huge selection of supplies for terrariums/enclosures as well as being an amazing fish and reptile shop. Tom was great to talk to and was so helpful. I bought a bunch of stuff and my hands were full so he carried the other items to my car for me, shook my hand and thanked me for coming in to visit them. This shop is a GEM! I only wish I had more time to spend looking around today. I will be back soon. What a great place!

Their livestock is impressive, but it's obvious they aren't well taken care of. The only two fish I bought here both died within two weeks. Most of the staff have little to no knowledge of fish or corals, but are pretty friendly. Livestock and dry goods are somewhat overpriced. Ask for Tom and you will have a better overall experience. Mike will give you the best advice, but expect a colder demeanor.

Dont buy used items from here without testing. I came in and got a fluval filter under the impression that it worked and it does not. I came back attempting to return it and they said no returns on used items. They said I should have tested it first, but during the purchase process no one informed me that used items cannot be returned. Associate did not offer to test the filer for me and it is something customers have to ask for apparently. What kind of business model is based on selling goods that they "claim" work, and when they don't refuse to issue a refund or store credit? One of the owners told me what needed to be replaced when I attempted to return the filter as if they knew what was wrong with it prior to the sale... I will never will come back and recommend they start testing used products before charging people for garbage. They also should not lie about testing items just to get a sale.

I've been going here for years, they do rotate through staff a bit and the more recent people are a lot more friendly than in the past, I really enjoy going in there on a weekly basis for my feeder mice and crickets. It's one of the few places that I can get live feeder mice and rats for my ball pythons. I bought my giant white knee tarantula from this place, never seen one in any other pet store. They do have a few rare animals for sale, its worth swinging by and taking a look!

All my fish die that I get here.. Hate to say it, but I have had better luck at Petsmart and Petco. Plants AND fish. Their plants have snails all over so watch out.. They also rot out quicker I have noticed than the plants I got at PetsMart and Petco. I was a novice and did not know to wash off or look for snails. I had a billion snails in my tank. Luckily I know better now and have controlled that. To be honest it's almost like they tell you the opposite advice for everything. Seriously. Everything! Getting help here is quite challenging unless you get lucky. Very cramped place. Can't even see most of the fish because the tanks are stacked too high. I tried bringing in the family once on a Saturday. What a disaster. No help for about an hour. Kids cant see the tanks so I am holding them up in this cramped dark place.. People all waiting for help.. Then weed smoke starts pouring in from the back door alley.. No issues with weed but some family will I'm sure.. Not recommended. Prices are too high as well.

I have been there twice now and I have to say, for my needs, best fish store in the whole state. I have been to many stores in the past (fish den, golden fish, about fish, south broadway tropicals, and more) and I am more than happy to make the journey from Westminster to Boulder just for this store. My tank is stocked exclusively with their fish and I have not lost a single one (bought 16 fish from them so far). They have the absolute most unique selection of freshwater community fish of ANY store. While some of their fish are a little pricey for my taste I couldn't be more satisfied. They even had sixray cory cats, and I bought their last six! They are super rare and were only $5 a piece (if you can't tell I am really excited about that). They even have killifish, peacock gobies (which I NEVER see), and a good selection of dwarf cichlids. The first time I went I was helped by Kevin, who I must say was incredible, we talked fish for a while and he ended up pointing out the cories and the pencilfish which now live happily in my beautiful tank. I was looking at some GBRs and he refused to sell them because he noticed a fish with ick in the tank, it was such a relief to see a fish store actually care about what they are sending a customer home with and not just trying to sell me whatever I would buy. The next time I went I was helped by someone else and was no less happy about it. The other guys (who's name I can't remember) was super friendly and even suggested some foods my fish now enjoy very much.

Honestly insanely disappointed the moment I opened the door. Most likely the most unkept store front I've ever seen in my life. I couldn't even tell if it was the front or the back door!! We came for feeder rats and the moment he opened the door to where the rats where kept this horrible smell smacked me in the face. I know rats aren't the best smelling things ever but wow, unacceptable! That is obviously just a case of negligence. My boyfriend whom works for a restoration company could instantly tell there would be mold above the ceiling tiles because of the humidity in the fish rooms. I will never let my snakes eat rats from this location ever again.

If you're into monster fish and plecos, this is your place. I've gotten a few sick fish from here, but they have a 45 day warranty. They they take care if their reptiles and have a good assortment of dry goods. I really like talking to the older gentleman that works there. He is as bright as they come and can rattle off facts and proper water parameters about ALL of the fish there. And there's a lot of variety. Its as though you're talking to a biologist. I live 45 minutes away and will still come out to this store in my free time. I would really rate this place 4.5 stars just because if those few fish that I lost. But I've bought many fish from here that are doing well to this day. I'll definitely be a life long customer here.

Largest aquatic, amphibian, and reptile store in Boulder. They literally have hundreds of different kinds of fish available. They recently started a pre-order program where you can select which species you want, put down a deposit and they will import it for you. They also have a huge variety of equipment and food. I really like their fish food mix that I use for my Jack Dempsey cichlid and they love it too. A bit pricey than Petco but definitely more variety is available here.

I went there to get a black ghost knifefish the fish looked sick and I asked the man what was wrong with him he said there was nothing wrong it was a normal behavior for those type of fish. The man gave me the fish and in the bag the fish was only laying on his side then he started to die I rushed home and try to put him in my water but by the time I was putting him in the water he had passed away then I tried calling the next day but it was a holiday so nobody answered then I called the day after that they told me they would be able to give me a refund but when I got there the lady said it was on me not on them that he passed so they could not give me a refund honestly I will never buy fish from there again!!

John, who is very knowledgeable, was the only employee who showed patience toward me and kept me coming back for a little while. He's the one to ask for. The livestock and equipment here is impressive, but I would only suggest coming to the store if you know what you need in advance and are careful not to get upsold. Casual aquarists or people learning about the hobby should take their business elsewhere. I would suggest to the management to hire more patient and trustworthy employees like John and fewer smarmy sales goons.

Their 2 main coral displays are inviting and colorful, teaming with vibrant life, but they are overpriced and most are not worth purchasing. The saltwater fish are always stressed out, in poor health, and have poor coloration. The freshwater fish and the reptile section seem to have better conditions, but not by much. On a positive note, the staff are always nice and helpful. They have a huge selection of tanks and equipment, but again, most of it is very overpriced.

When I was there an African side necked soft shell turtle absolutely murdered a 6 inch male red eared slider and continues to eat its neck out. No Bueno need to feed turtles more and better

Good fish selection however i went to an employee asking for meds for fin rot, older man with high pitch voice, he recommended Sulfaplex. I asked many Qs about it since im unfamiliar and he did not mention it would kill all my bacteria colonies and ruin my nitrogen cycle, causing am ammonia spike and killing $800 in fish.

Many of the staff, including the owner, are on a first name basis with me, and never hesitate to answer and question I may have. Sometimes we just sit and chat about fish, unless of course someone else needs help, then the staff member promptly helps them. I visit this store once a week on average and have no plans of every going anywhere else again!

Best fish store in Boulder, I always go here and they tend to have good stuff in stock from the most basic fish to some unique expensive species. As with any fish store inspect the fish as much as possible before taking them home. I have gotten white clouds with ich before, but that is probably more due to the supplier and the nature of those fish than the fault of the store. I've also gotten snails from plants I've bought there, but again that is the nature of buying aquatic plants from the store it just happens. I've always been treated with respect there and the guys working are cool and knowledgeable, I'd recommend you get your fish here over the other stores in the area for sure.

They have some hard to find and odd ball fishes in stock but their prices are pretty expensive, they do have a large selection of aquascaping rocks, driftwood, and aquatic plants, fertilizers, fish, food. They always asks if i needed help.
