REVIEWS OF Sears Fine Food IN California

Tracy Payn

Good breakfast. Facility is quite bigger in size than one would imagine. Food was served hot, and was delicious. Service was also on par.

Alex Geller

Good place to have breakfast. Retro atmosphere, old posters on the wall. Food is fine, not spectacular.

Eric Nelson

Very convenient to the Fairmont for breakfast, lunch and dinner.

Tricia Leo

Service is good but the food was not very good. The hashbrowns tasted like an old rag. The only thing good that I tried were corned beef hash and pancakes

Curtis Bender

Excellent food but really pricy. Breakfast for 2 with coffee, and orange juice=$54.00 before tip. Normal glass of orange juice was over $6.00. Way to much for that at any restaurant. Had to take off a star for being about $10.00 to $15.00 over what it should have been.

Sandy Millar

Great meal, great service. Well worth a visit

Ivonne Alvarez

Great place!!! Good taste, friendly staff, convenient location. We' ll be back!!

Stephanie Drapeau

Really tasty and good price for the quality! Fast service

Jonathan Kline

Food and service is good, can get a bit loud especially early for breakfast

Nicolás Amengual

Excellent pancakes and bacon, staff V attentive

Viva Photography Wirral

Absolutely superb food. The Dungeness crab chowder is amazing. That roasted salmon and the half roast chicken are both to die for. Forget the other restaurants across the road. This place is THE BEST!

Araceli Rodriguez

Great place to eat! Corn beef hash is my favorite

Antonio

Delicious food, especially recommended happy hour dishes.

Amy Phillips

Pancakes and Corned Beef were great. Bay shrimp omelette was lacking seasoning. We had to call the waitress over twice to get more coffee. Solid food. Okay service. Neat decor.

Angela M

This place is amazing. Love coming here whenever we’re in San Francisco. If you are a fan of blue cheese, the Blue Moon burger will not disappoint. Very cool atmosphere. Family friendly. Reasonably priced, especially for the downtown area. I’ve never had breakfast here but I’ve heard it’s amazing as well.

Erwin Kanters

Great breakfast, super friendly service. Nice place with lot of character.

Ron Higdon

Loved this place. 80 years of history to begin with combined with a great atmosphere and excellent food made for an enjoyable dining experience.

Jeonghyun Kim

I tried Strawberry Waffle and it was so delicious. Servers were also kind. I love here

Ken Wong

Looks like a fun place to eat. Service was horrible. Sat down at the bar and no one came to serve us. So we left after 10 minutes.

Tom Wagner

It’s been a while since I ate here, but it was a memorable experience. I remember the food being good, the service excellent and friendly (a rarity in Frisco these days, the rudest city in America), and we were greeted at the door by a 104 year old man around whom the restaurant was probably built who sat with us for half an hour telling us fables of when San Francisco was a nice, friendly town. This is the place for breakfast if you have to go to Frisco, but my best advice is to avoid the city at all costs unless you’re an ultraliberal who thinks exactly the same as every other millionaire moron in the city. If anyone suspects you’re different, then expect terrible service everywhere you go.

cj

Our go to breakfast place. Basic, hearty American fare.

Mark Hong

Got there at around 8AM on a Saturday. Staff was very nice and attending. I ordered the signature 18 Swedish pancake and it was the best pancakes that I've had in a long time...recommend for anyone who's in town and want to try out some vintage US breakfast

Brett D

You should come hungry to this place if you want pancakes. I had the Adrian special which has 2 pancakes, 2 sausage, 2 bacon and 3 eggs. The pancakes, bacon, and eggs were great. It was quite a bit of food as I couldn’t finish the pancakes. I wasn’t fond of the sausage nor the coffee. The service was pretty good.

Ewan Mackay

Had the pancakes, very good when your jet lagged at half 6 in the morning

frank b

This was the very first time I came to this establishment. I was very pleased with the customer service it was excellent. The food was absolutely delicious. Our waiter was great, he was on top of everything, very attentive and professional. The breakfast here is superb!! Although we came here when they were super busy we were given great and excellent service!

Shahir Ahang

Came in really hungry and with high expectations based on reviews. The waitress took my order and it took over 30 minutes to finally get my food. When I got it, they messed up my order. Everyone makes mistakes which is human but how you deal with it really matters. They didn’t do anything...just gave me the check and charged me for the entree they messed up. Never coming back here again.

Joel Sherrill

I had the pancakes and really enjoyed them. Wish I had gone at breakfast time for more options. They have a regular dinner menu which looked great but I wanted the pancakes and breakfast food.

Reggie Bryant

Stopped in to try the signature breakfast dish, Swedish pancakes, and they lived up to their reputation. Just right, not too heavy like full-size pancakes. The strawberries and lingonberries were quite flavorful. Service was attentive and friendly., If the department store of the same name was half as good a business, it would be the envy of retail. I'll be back during breakfast hours to try the homemade hash...

Jonathan James

Really liked this place. Old school feel, but not pretentious - and not break the bank either.

Fernando Ortiz

Good food, small table for the large dishes

Stu Collett

Classy, good service, great food and reasonably priced considering its location. I had breakfast and I would heartily recommend.

Tomás Gouveia

Very tasty food for breakfast. Their best known pankakes are wonderful. Make sure to try them!

Veronica Hibl

Awesome first visit! The food was great, huge specials board (I got the crab Benedict) and they have different mimosa flavors (grapefruit was awesome but I'm curious about pomegranate). Good dark coffee, great service, and a cute wooden walls and counters ambiance. Definitely coming back some time soon.

brmcbratney .

Wonderful service, food was perfect. Rye toast with butter & orange marmalade is awesome...hadn't tried that before. Also...if you ever need to show your kids...they have a pay phone in the back!

Sean Gilbertson

I ate here twice — both at breakfast time. The first time I went, it was shortly after they opened. I got good service and the pancake platter (like 16-18 small pancakes) I ordered was good. I’d give this visit 3.5 or 4 stars. The second visit was crowded and the waiter more or less ignored me. He got one of my requests wrong even when I asked for it twice. I ordered different food this time and it was just okay. I’d give this visit 2 stars. I recommend going to breakfast as early as you can, and you’ll likely have a decent experience.

Terry Medina

Popular spot usually with a line to get in on the weekends. There is a reason. Great breakfast! Fresh squeezed jucie, wonderful pancakes, high quality meats especially sauage. When in SF you gotta go.

Alena Bogdasheva

nice place, wonderful interior, usual american food. it seems, you can find some better options around.. thought i did see long queues in evenings.

Otilio Rojas

We were highly recommended this restaurant by our tour guide. We were waiting in line. A regular customer came after us and ask the waiter who was in front with the hostess, if they have a table? The hostess told us that we have to wait for an available table, cause the available table they had was reserved. When I noticed she sat the persons who came after us in our table. I confronted her and told her they were after us and I heard them asking if they had a table when they came in. She told me they had a reservation. She lied and turn her back saying we have to wait. She never even ask there name or if they had a reservation. That is not right, they didn’t wait not even 2 minutes. Don't waste your time with this restaurant. They don't care about visiting customer from other states.

Carolandian Wilson

Loved this place. Been there for breakfasts, and lunchtimes. Great surroundings, friendly and helpful service, and wonderful food.

Fran Allen

This restaurant has such great history! The food was delicious. The swedish pancakes were mouth watering!

Barry W

Restaurant on Union Sq. near cable car stop, so the place is a tourist trap though it's reputably a S F. tradition. Is it wrong to expect that service is at least adequate? My Bloody Mary was average but the crab chowder was excellent. The smoked salmon plate was below average as there were few accoutrements e.g. capers, tomatoes, onions. It's too bad the service spoiled it all. Our waiter was intent on getting us in and out so it didn't matter if we were very involved in a conversation he just started talking. After he spoke a couple of sentences with no reply he must have gotten the hint. But as a result our dishes were never cleared and we were given our check without asking us if we wanted dessert. Having been a waiter in college I like to give them a break, but this time it wasn't worth it. I won't be back.

claire goodwin

Excellent food and service. Not the cheapest but well worth the money.

Cliff Wall

Great food. Old world feel.

Noldz Vanz

Great food, I requested rice in exchange of hashbrowns. Yummy!

A Verified Reviewer

Worth the wait outside! Best sausage and bacon cuts I've had in my travels and definitely would come back and recommend.

Richard Cuthbertson

Loved it here. Great service and the food was an added bonus

Rita Jo Koller

Great Service, delish food would highly recommend.

John Beck

Best breakfast in SF. We always eat here when we visit.

Kristen Bennett

This is my first time in San Francisco and it was recommended by the concierge at my hotel. After visiting, I was really surprised at the amazing reviews. This place was mediocre, at best. I honestly felt a little sick after eating my omelet. I was also surprised they didn't have any standards of cleanliness for customers, the stench really makes for a memorable meal. Even coming from NYC, SF is a shock.

Damon Kuntz

Super disappointing. I had three different staff members tell me that my waitress would be right with me. She never came. Instead I was serviced by overworked staff members trying to work other sections. The advertised special on the front door was not being honored. I cannot recommend this place at all.

Brody Hartman

american food and the atmosphere here is excellent. i love this place, excellent food & service.

Helbert Campos

American restaurant experience. Great food and nice service. Had hamburger and ceasar salad.

Roberto Faria

Had the veggie omelette in this historic restaurant. There is a lineup to be seated, and the place seems always busy. Food was tasty, and they didn't skinp on the amount of veggies in the omelette. Heard that their all-meat omelette is one of their most popular breakfast dishes, but didn't try it. Taste was cold when it arrived, and coffee refills we're very slow so giving it only 4 stars. Otherwise great place for a meal, and a must-visit establishment while in San Francisco.

구창모

Inaccurate surving and low quality of customer care. It's a waste of time to tip. But the taste of food is not bad

Balys K.

Mediocre eggs benedict with salmon (overcooked egg and cold salmon). There are no vegetables in any meal. Ambience in the place was nice though.

Bill Brandine

Nice, comfortable place with quality food. Dinner menu is a bit limited but offers one selection of each choice, i.e. one beef, one chicken, one pork, one salmon, etc. Everything we ordered was delicious and well made. Place is a bit pricey, but fair for a city restaurant. Interestingly, their famous breakfast pancakes are on the dinner menu, and people were buying it for dinner. They were good.

Александр Alex

Very nice place for breakfast in the heart of city center. Staff is polite and very fast. It's always crowded here. But cafe isn't small, and they find where to sit you and your company. The breakfast was tasty and big. Menu has a variety of offerings of breakfasts and hot drinks. Interesting interior, there are old photos on the walls, and pictures of old San Francisco.

Brad Rose

Nice place to eat. Be aware at busy times, you may be asked to wait outside.

Daniel Amezcua

Amazing happy hour. Great service. Will be back.

Patrick Hafner

Food great, waiter issue but meal and ambiance were nice. Don't forget your tokens to play slot machine on your way out.

Josh Pusch

Very expensive and the food was standard diner fare. The service was lacking as well. However, the food was made fast.

Brogan Stich

Solid Restaurant, The food is sort of standard American fare, with some adventurous dishes as well.

Noel Graff

Portion sizes on small side, but good quality. Waiters need some hospitality training, but they get the job done.

Sarah Deans

Last day in san Francisco so we treated ourselves to breakfast out instead of hotel. I had the buttermilk pancakes with strawberries and syrup. Absolutely gorgeous. My partner had the eggs Benedict beautiful. Staff were great. Would highly and definitely recommend this place.

Charis W

Slow day...Went in about 3p. SERVICE WAS HORRID! (Details to come) food was great...or fine as their name says. Definitely recommend the NY strip omg!yummy. Good ol Eddie from Oklahoma wasn't our waiter just had the pleasure to meet him as we were headed out the door. I think if he had served us our experience would've been different. He was kind and helpful ...really pleasant.

Charlotte Love

Service was excellent, pancakes incredible and the french toast also lovely. Service amazing, nothing they wouldnt do for us. Even the spin coins for the family made it even more fun!

Bob The Super Pig

I have been here a few times over the last 5 years or so. Always great, friendly staff, and good food! Decent vegetarian options for an American restaurant. Pretty inexpensive prices for Powell. It's usually quite popular, so I would recommend reservations for any party larger than 4.

Norma Davis

Great food has been there since 1938! A must place to visit for breakfast! Generous portions as well!

gavin mcentee

An amazing place. Went there last night, came back for breakfast! Don't order a starter unless you haven't eaten for a week. Really generous portions. And you can save yourself for desert.

Ernesto A Ruiz

ABSOLUTELY THE BEST PLACE FOR BRUNCH IN SAN FRANCISCO

Joseph Holley

Having been for a half dozen excellent breakfasts here, I decided to try dinner. The staff was kind helped me navigate the menu, and helpfully modified the dishes that had things I can't eat in them. Unfortunately, the NY steak I ordered medium rare came out well done - no pink at all. I'll stick to the other excellent dinner options in the neighborhood next time. Still planning to come back for more breakfast though.

Beck Marquis

Eight of us had a bit of a reunion at this restaurant. Service was great. We asked for separate bills which was not a problem. The server was helpful with the wine choice as well as with the dinner choice. Several people liked the seafood pasta but I had the grilled ling cod with lemon butter sauce. Great choice. It was tasty and perfectly cooked. coffee at the end of the meal was cold, but was promptly replaced with a fresh pot. Overall good night.

Reed Radcliffe

Nice place with great service. Going there for breakfast tomorrow, too.

Ian Hodge

Really good breakfast - great service quirky furniture.

Joe Zott

Had Sunday brunch. Entirely fine but unexciting Eggs Florentine. My wife has pancakes and bacon. Again fine, but not particularly exciting. It is an institution and the food is decent but nothing to surprise and delite.

Ralph Tyndall

We are visiting San Francisco and this was the first place we stopped for breakfast! Service was quick and friendly. Food and coffee were great. Couldn’t ask for much more to start our trip off on a good foot!

Alexis Wedel

Great breakfast, but not that special, that you have to wait in a big line!

Andrew Long

Great food, great service, breakfast a little pricey

Козы-Корпеш Толеп

Amazing place to eat breakfast, pancakes are awesome

Patrick Kallas

Sear's Fine Foods was the perfect cozy breakfast eatery for the last day of my San Fransisco trip. The location has a historic feel to it and lots of seating. That being said, wait times could be long so plan in advance. Our food was delicious and their world famous swedish pancakes were very tasty. Definitely check this out if you are in need of a hearty breakfast in San Francisco.

Andrea Wu

I came here on a weekday morning for some breakfast, and it was great! I got the Swedish pancakes with lingonberry, strawberries, and whipped cream. The pancakes were quite normal to me, but I guess they were thin and flat as opposed to the more doughy type of pancake. The strawberries they gave me weren't really fresh and a few pieces were even rotten! The lingonberry turned out to be jam which was fine, and I appreciated that it wasn't too sweet. The whipped cream was the best though, because it was freshly made and thick. Delicious! If it weren't for the pieces of rotten strawberries, I would've given this spot 4 stars, but I don't understand how a restaurant can serve rotten food. Service was alright, as my water kept being refilled. Food was fairly priced at $18 post-tax for amount and quality (except those strawberries!!!).

Sam Wakim

A tradition of fine breakfast for as long as I can remember! Been going here for 40 years and the food and service get better with age! Now I'm introducing the restaurant to the next generation of the family! The Swedish pancakes, or as I like to call them, the silver dollar pancakes, are definitely a must try. I like getting a side of ham steak to cut the sweetness a bit and add a bit of protein. It's really tasty, too. Enjoy!

David Hawkins

A legend reborn. As good as ever.

Lillie Anne

Excellent food, great service. Great choice!!

Alexandra Lee

Very nice place for breakfast in the heart of city center. Staff is polite and very fast. It's always crowded here. But cafe isn't small, and they find where to sit you and your company. The breakfast was tasty and big. Menu has a variety of offerings of breakfasts and hot drinks. Interesting interior, there are old photos on the walls, and pictures of old San Francisco

Tall Blade

Really good breakfasts, try Al's Special and enjoy the mix of eggs, pancakes, and corned beef hash. I got given a token to try my luck at winning free food on a classic one armed bandit too.

Eva Hamilton

The administration was great, yet that is it. The environment does not have any appeal that you would anticipate from such an old spot. What's more, for lunch, I've would be wise to nourishment in air terminals. This spot must make due on travelers because of its nearness to Association Square.

Viki Ryan

Salad was drenched in dressing. I asked for shrimp. I got 5 cold medium shrimp on top. No flavor, just am after thought on the plate. My mistake. I forgot to ask for the dressing on the side and specify I wanted a skewer of shrimp which was a buck cheaper and cooked. I left half the salad, but the waitress didn't take anything off the bill.

Jon Watkinson

Very average experience - breakfast nothing special, coffee is terrible compared to other places nearby. Service mediocre.

Stephen Graham

Great breakfast spot. There's a line on Sundays, but worth the wait. My wife had the French toast and I had the pancakes with an egg over easy. Service was fast and efficient, and the food is excellent. Homey atmosphere. Our new breakfast spot when we stay in San Francisco.

Mike Guyette

Salmon was fantastic, but the star of the night was the crab chowder. Absolutely phenomenal soup. The salmon was presented well and all the ingredients complemented each other wonderfully. Would go back if I come to town again.

R H

I adore this place and its right in the heart of sf. Breakfast was great!

benjamin olson

Food is alright. Service was good. Our waitress was very nice.

Glenn Platt

Open early, for EST travellers and consistently good. Best of the Union Square options for sure. And the swedish pancakes are delicious!

Mohammad Abbass

Good place for breakfast, the ambiance was nice and the service was fast and good.

ali aljahmi

My friend made me visit place for breakfast. Smh way overpriced for ok food

Giovanni Willis

american food here - yummy. I was so full. The service was very helpful and observant. Menu is similar to a restaurant in Jacksonville I loved.

Sherrie H. Sinclair

Solid, fresh American fare in an "Old San Francisco" setting. Recommend beet salad and mushroom risotto with lobster along with the pork chop and absolutely the white chocolate cheesecake!

Alan Herring

Love Sears fine foods. Tried it for breakfast couple yrs ago during vist to San Fran. Went back for conf. And was able to have dinner there. Pablo pork chop was excellent as was Coconut Pecan bread pudding. Highly recommended.

Timothy Taravella

Great breakfast/diner stop. Sandwiches, etc and their famous "Swedish" pancakes hit the spot.

Patti Rawding-Anderson

Excellent food. Eddie was our waiter. Hard worker, very pleasant and he contributed to our wonderful experience.

Alex Cepero

Everything we ordered was amazing. From the pancakes, omelettes, hash browns, and corned beef hash to the sausage links and coffee. Great spot for a sit down breakfast.

KYOUGNWON KIM

Can you see Korean national flag? Super delicious swedinish Pancake

Sam Bernstein

Damn good fine food, service. Old San Francumisco atmosphere. The real deal. Hope they last another 100 years!

Mike

Great food for breakfast and efficient service. Ate here twice in same week not disappointed

pankaj patel

Food breakfast place and value for money. Nice omelette with bacon. Attentive service. Emphasis on good value for money in middle of san fran.

Laura Jones

Sears Fine Food is my favorite place. Great environment, friendly staff. Highly recommended!

Vitas

Yeah had a pretty good brekky here one day. Looks quite fancy and posh but the people seem quite nice and not too judgmental

Priscilla Schofield

I love going to this place when I come for my yearly SF Trip. But was surprised that Sears Fine Food charged for a side of fresh fruit when I asked for a substitution from the sauteed fruit. :(

Jenifer Hitchcock

Love the classic joints that look lived in but hold their style! Sears Fine Foods is one of them. Like the simple menu. Chose roast chicken over the salmon but hard to choose. It was delicious. House salad pleasant. Service a bit manic with different people serving and they forgot my friends request for warm bread. But, a comfortable place with good comfort food. Would go back.

Aurelian Cotuna

Lovely place with a remarkable collection of old marketing posters. It impressed me that they kept the old look and feel of the place. The servers are nice and always making sure that everything is in order. The food is delicious and overall is a great place to go to. I recommend it. I will definitely come back

Konstantin Bulenkov

Visit if you don't have time for breakfast. Service is fast. Food is average. Hashed brownies are too soft inside and taste like mashed potatoes.

Dan F

Nice place to go to for breakfast or lunch. The food was delicious and priced well. I ate here a few times while I was staying by Union square and had a good meal every time.

Jim Eva

The service was good, but that's it. The atmosphere lacks any charm that you would expect from such an old place. And for lunch I've had better food in airports. This place must survive on tourists due to its proximity to Union Square.

Nikki Carson

Great breakfast! This was our first time trying corn beef hash and it was delicious!! The wait staff was friendly and attentive. Our first visit to beautiful San Francisco and this place was highly recommended. It exceeded our expectations. Thank you!

Anthony Beckman

Sears was right around the corner from our hotel. Service was excellent, food was delicious, and the price was quite reasonable. Will be going to Sears for breakfast in the morning.

Amber Friedman

I went during a breakfast rush, the store waitress at the counter was quick, but arm, and friendly.

S Renaudie

We were a party of 4 people and we had a good dinner. Service was good and we were not rushed out at the end of our meal. It was a special occasion to meet up with friends and catch up around dinner. At the end you get a token to play on a one arm bandit to try to win a meal. A nice funny touch.

valentina balzano

Best breakfast in SF! If you like American pancakes well this is the place for ya!!

Carrie Draper

It had excellent ratings but, was only ok in my opinion! Maybe I am just spoiled by Bacon & Butter in Sacramento CA. After eating B&B flapjacks and the breakfast burrito.... No other breakfast can compare!

J H

Nice dining experience. A little expensive, but worth it.

Matías Gálvez

Classical style food, not the best looking but the flavours were amazing. Also the attention was fenomenal.

Antony Royal

Very aggressive on the AC so wrap up warm.

Jose Saenz

Good food i really enjoyed almost to the last bite when I found a hair in my waffle which I know sometimes happens and I was ok with it but the the waiter ROBERTO made it sound like I was the one to put it on my plate that was a turn off

Art Hogarth

Great spot for a meal! I had not planned to go there but decided to check it out as it was busy, but not too busy. Service was excellent and attentive but not overvearing. The Food....damn was it great! So flavorful and the seafood was very tasty and fresh. I ordered the cioppino and it delivered. Family friendly, and not overpriced co.pared to the area. Well worth a visit, I will go back next time I'm in town.

Jeroen Bouwman

Classic place for breakfast! I had their famous Swedish pancakes and they were very tasty. Attentive and professional staff.

Joshua Seidel

Fantastic food and service. I had a great bloody mary, coffee, and the delicious smoked salmon Benedict. Easy to get seated at the bar, not a long wait for larger tables. Would recommend.

Cal Walstad

Dinner was excellent. However the menu is very limited compared to my last visit. Really miss the Pot Pie / Blue Plate Special removed from the menu. ☹️

Daniel McCarthy

Great American fair. Service was fantastic and convenient. Liked it so much I came back for breakfast later in the week.

Marty C

Sears Fine Food is near the hotel I always stay at when I’m in San Francisco for work. The restaurant is always busy for breakfast. In the past I’ve considered stopping there to have breakfast but there is usually more of a wait than I’d like. Today there was immediate space available at the counter so I went ... and was disappointed. Honestly, an Egg McMuffin would have been as good as Sears’ Lee’s Eggs Benedict, and McService couldn’t have been any less personable—sorry Rodrigo, you looked good, but as professional waitstaff your demeanor and attentiveness could also use some polish. I won’t be having breakfast there again on future trips.

Mike Curran

The crab chowder came out COLD, it turns out, since we were seated near the kitchen, I could see about 10 bowls sitting under heat lamps. They corrected it quickly but unfortunately there was so little crab in the chowder it was really just potato soup. We ordered 6 burgers. All came out quickly, but ranged from rare to so well done it was almost charcoal. The fries were tasty, but it’s pretty hard to screw of fries too much. The ice cream dessert was obviously plated yesterday and put back in the freezer until being served to our group. That being said I would probably pass on dining here again.

Carl Samuels

This restaurant is a landmark in downtown San Francisco since 1938, the service and food are excellent and it is worth the wait. Be sure your whole group is there before seating or you will wait

Luke Chitwood

Fantastic service and excellent food. Highly recommend the swedish pancakes.

Natalia Gutiérrez Ávila

This is a must in San Francisco. You can have a good breakfast with a great service. If you don't wait for a table it's faster. If it were a bit cheaper it'd be perfect for me.

Phil Dusart

Was OK, with a large menu and decent portion sizes, although there are many other breakfast places in the local area that have a much nicer and less conveyor-belt like atmosphere. (Also, coming from Sweden I'm not entirely sure what is so Swedish about the pancakes?)

Daniel K.

Just a breakfast joint complete with old world ambiance, fast service, and food that gets the job done. In San Francisco for a conference and Sears was recommended to me by an associate. I was a little weary at first because it looked and sounded like a tourist trap. Needless to say, I was pleasantly surprised to the contrary. I like to order the basics when visiting a breakfast place for the first time. After all, if you can't do eggs and bacon well should I really try your vegan lobster egg benedict lettuce wrap? The food was on point. The over easy egg fry was just that. The hash was crispy on the outside and silky on the inside without a hint of grease. We also ordered the French toast. Also delicious with the fresh strawberry compote. Initially the portions felt a tad on the small size but then I remembered not everyone in the world likes a heaping side of gluttony with their breakfast. Cheers to you Sears.

Paul Pistore

Sears Fine Food was recommended to us by a friend, but I must admit, we weren't impressed. We had brunch and found nothing to be particularly good. It was all rather bland and unremarkable. The service staff was not very attentive and our waiter seemed disinterested. For this type of diner fare, you can do much better, for the price, in the area.

Natalie O'Keeffe

We went here yesterday on our first day in San Fran and really enjoyed both the food and the atmosphere. Big portion sizes, coffee wasn't 100% to my taste (I had a cappuccino) but I think this is a difference in milk in the US (I am from Europe). We went about 9am on a Sunday and only had to wait a few minutes, when we were leaving at about 10am there was a line out the door and up the road, so get there early if you don't want to wait. On the pricier side but for what you get and the atmosphere I think it is worth it.

Amber Lynott

Iconic diner next to Union Square. Consistantly good comfort food.

Salvador Menjivar

Visited this place for breakfast on 3 consecutive mornings. We asked for tea and toast. The latter was inedible so we proceded to order a portion of toasted french bread. Sadly on every occassion the french baguet slices were never toasted sufficiently and had to be sent back to be toasted again. Considering we were tipping generously every morning, you would have thought the same waiter that served us on each occassion would have had sufficient intelligence, diligence and initiative to pass on the right instructions. Sadly no!!!. On top of all this, he also transpired to make the most racist comment and joke about myself, refering to me as Pocahontas on the basis of my very ethnic looks, not realising I was within earshot. Most dissappointing, hurtful and base behaviour for a young white Latino waiter with limited education not knowing ironically that he abuses and offends a well bred ethnic Latino customer who could give him a full lecture on Pocahontas' achievements from saving J Smith from death and the pilgrimns from starvation with her extensive knowledge, to her travel to England, introduction to the court of James I, marriage to an English man and early death there. Certainly the kind of place I would avoid like the Plaguein future.

Deborah Czarnecki

This has become my go to while in town on business. Everything I’ve ordered has been fantastic.

Lee Townsend

Old school. Great food.

Chris Gates

The food is mediocre and uninspired. I was there for dinner and had a special appetizer which was a burrata. It was panko crusted, ... Basically they took one of the most popular and delicate cheese dishes and turned it into a mozzarella stick. The flavor was ok but not great. They paired it with lettuce and a bell pepper Ratatouille of sorts... It didn't work. I also had the risotto which was under seasoned and lacked any definition.

Ronald adkins

Nice place with old time decor. Food was really good and service was as well. Whoever pays the bill gets a token to play a slot machine for a change to win free drinks or food. I didn't win, but would definitely recommend giving this place a try.

Craig Sherman

Pancakes were great. Cute place, but a little pricey $70 for 2 breakfasts and coffee

David L

We saved one of our best meals for last with this first time visit. Two of us had Al's Special - corned beef hash, two eggs, hash browns, 9 mini pancakes - which was more than enough for a late breakfast/early lunch and the maple syrup was tasty. Super convenient location to hotels in the Union Square area. Enjoyed reading about the history and longevity of the business.

Scott Matherly

Great for breakfast. Food was big portions. Wait staff friendly and prompt. In the end you get a token for the slot machine! Too fun. Love the atmosphere.

I like everything in this place expect for the service some times. I ordered New York steak and eggs to be cooked Medium. I got my order in 25 minutes. First time I got a steak that was cold and way over well done. So I called my waiter and I told him that I didn't order well done steak. He was not happy about changing it for me but he went for 5 minutes and brought another steak like you see in the picture. This is Medium Rare to Rare, and I don't think they wanted to make things right because he never came back to my table. I used to like this place but not anymore.

Wonderful food for all 3 meals. Very busy at peak eating times but efficient staff gets you in quicker than expected and right on the Powell street cable car route.

As a first visit to San Francisco, and the US in general this place was fairly unsatisfactory. We visited twice due to convenience of where we were staying. The staff here were mixed, with a couple being both nice, attentive and helpful, and a couple being unfriendly but still relatively attentive. It's a fairly central location so it's okay that it can take a while for food to arrive, but it was only later when we moved out of the centre 15 minutes West that we realised the food here is pretty bland, uninspired and overpriced (but not for the area). Won't be returning, but appreciate trying it out nonetheless

Had to stop in for the swedish pancakes. Not at all busy at 6:45am on a Tuesday. Benefit of being a EDT traveler on the west coast. Service was great, pancakes with the berries were delicious. I have done it, glad I did, but won't be heading back. Prices are not conducive to repeat visits.

During a recent visit we all ordered the special(Al's special, I believe) with the corned beef hash, half order of silver Dollar pancakes, hash browns and bacon. The silver dollar pancakes really live up to the hype. I appreciate the option to substitute eggs. The pecan waffles are good too. There is a reason this restaurant has outlived most of its local competitors. They never disappoint!

We are not super picky people and we came here based on the high reviews and the prices posted online. Well the prices are different and I’m guessing maybe we were there on an off day or that things have changed. We had the special which was a pasta with spinach and cream sauce also the salmon with veggies. It was ok but I wouldn’t write home about it.

Had a basic breakfast was all excited about their specialty pancakes and unfortunately was quite disappointed. Unfortunately they have gotten kind of caught up in the fact that this is place for tourists and have forgotten the fact that good food quality matters. Definitely disappointed. One plus is that they give you a special token and you could possibly win a free breakfast so if you’re in Union Square and you want to basic breakfast this is the place for you.

Excellent food and great quality service!

This is a touristy place, which I knew, and it was fine. The food was okay. The experience was kind of a downer because the wait staff all seemed really stressed out and pretty miserable (not blaming them). It made me wish I hadn't given my dollars to a place where the work environment is that poor for the people working there.

Amazing place to get breakfast! Due to the central location you can easily go sightseeing around the union square. I just went for breakfast there during my vacation in San Francisco. A nice goodie is that you receive a coin for an old gambling machine where you can win a few prices. I can highly recommend this restaurant to go for breakfast!
