AMAZING Fish store! If you are a cichlid lover, this is a paradise! James, the owner, has done a wonderful job of breeding unique cichlids, and even boasts of a unique, light orange hybrid he calls the "Phoenix". I even met a pair of guys that runs a Cichlid Club that meets monthly. Honestly a wonderful store to get lost in. I will definitely become a loyal customer :)

Absolutely don't waste your time with this place. They post their hours on Google and also on the recorded voicemail when you call the store and then you drive to their store and all the doors are locked, nobody ever answers the phone either. I was considering ordering some fish from them online and figured since they're located near me I would just visit the shop during the hours they claim to be open. With what I know now, I would never do business with an online store that conducts business like this. Thank God I didn't buy anything online from them.

The owner did a great job working with me on my order to get everything I wanted and delivering it on A-day that worked best with my schedule. He also went above and beyond by calling me on his personal cell phone to talk to me about the fish and educate me on what would work best. I believe he truly cares about the fish and the customers and what will work best in my tank. It is clear that it is not just a business to him but a Passion

Huge selection of tropical fish!, and all the fish look healthy as well. Employees seem fairly nice except the guy with the big arms and brown curly hair he seemed kind of rude. But other then that its a good place to go for tropical fish, alot of variety.

The Cichlid Shack is a phenomenal little shop in the most obscure little industrial park. Was recommended this place after fruitlessly searching across town for a specific fish. The owner is very helpful & very educated on all things cichlid. Able to special order cichlid species, if you're patient, lol. Definitely plan to revisit this gem. Thank you James!

So far my experience with this company hasn't been a good one. I've tried messaging them on facebook as well as on their website and have yet to receive a response. I hope I won't be neglected when I come in the store... UPDATE 1/17/2019 The store has good quality fishes and for that I give 4 stars. I take 1 star off due to the owner not being very welcoming when you first come in. After talking to him he is nice but I didn't get a good vibe when first coming into the store.

We drove all the way out here from Peoria to look at there fish because of the amazing reviews. It is 2:15 on a Sunday and guess what? The doors are locked. We have called several times (even before we made the journey) and nobody answers the phone. What a waste of time.

James F Largo is by far one of the nicest person out there, if u ever listen to his story about how he became so passionate for tropical fish specially Africa Cichlids , then you’ll see that this man is not only in it for the money but for the love and passion he has for fresh water fish . Out of the 7 fish orders that I’ve had from him only one fish past and if u ask me why , my answer would be that it was probably sick already from the fish farm . So glad i found this place. Its a Lake Malawi super store. Super clean an amazing selection of fish most of which I've only seen in pictures. The Owner is a cool dude as well and very knowledgeable in the varieties and obviously a Huge fan of an Amazing species of fish. If you love Lake Malawi Chiclids you must check this place out.

WOW! There are some of the most gorgeous cichlids I have ever seen! They are beautiful. He doesn't have a lot of stock outside of cichlids though, so this is definitely a niche store. However... you won't find better cichlids out there.

The Shack is the best place to get your fish at. James is by far one of the most knowledgeable people in the valley when it comes to Cichlids and fish in general. Today was the 2nd time going into the Cichlid Shack, and was a wonderful experience. I walked away with a couple dry products and a RD flowerhorn! I also spoke to James a while about learning about African Cichlids and he was extremely knowledgeable and informative and definitely will be back soon to get some Africans! Definitely recommend this if you're into africans and he has a few oddballs as well and a decent selection of plecos. Pricing is also priced right. He also isn't trying to push sales on you, he would rather inform you then have dead fish in your tanks.. really appreciated that as well.

The store is never open during its posted business hours even when you call in his summer hours are listed still never open tried to go 5 times now and he is never open I don't know how he stays in business, even when you call in you can't get ahold of anybody to let you know if they are open or not
