This belongs to the category of Seafood restaurant.
Pricey restaurants but disappointed. Nice atmosphere great but when they seated us at the first table the bench seat was wet. While I was drying it with my napkin I was dripped on by Overhead ac. Uptown shrimp appetizer was good. Order seafood pasta - they were out of mussels and scallops. We had marinated tuna instead. Tuna was over cooked, too salty, and swimming in soy sauce. It was so bad I couldn’t finish it. When I told the waitress it wasn’t good she said ‘okay.’
Best sushi I've ever had
Five everytime! I love this place.
Great place in Tuscaloosa
Great food
Best seafood around
It was awesome good food good people. Shout out to the owner....... Your work speaks for you. Loved your place!!
Worth the visit! Great food.
The food we had was excellent. Fish and steaks cooked perfectly. Sushi appetizer was great. Service seemed just a little delayed but we were not in any hurry so no big deal. Dessert choices were a little limited. I would definitely eat at Chuck's Fish again.
Great food at high prices.
Great food and service
Best restaurant in town, just ask Kirk Herbstreit
Good food good service
Food was great, service slow, but was very busy due to concert the night we were there.
Great atmosphere & great food!!!
Outstanding grill/bistro/seafood and steak in the heart of 'Bama' country. We were taken by friends for dinner and were very impressed! The vibe is a bistro/pub, but the food is something else. We started with the seafood fondue and margharita fire kilned pizza. The pizza was simply amazing, crispy crust with fresh tomatoes, basil, cheese etc.
Ate at Chuck's Fish for the first time tonight after a friend recommended it. My party of three arrived at approximately 6:30 pm. It was moderately crowded, but we only waited 15 minutes. I ordered Stuffed Shrimp with a bowl of miso soup and had bread while we waited. My soup and the bread took about 10 minutes. The bread wasn't my favorite, but it's a matter of taste since the other two people enjoyed it. The miso soup was very good but seemed a little small until I remembered it was only $3. My stuffed shrimp was delicious. All in all, this place is a little pricey and the portions are about normal for such a place. (Medium to small) The food is very good though.
Amazing seafood restaurant. Probably the vest in Tuscaloosa. I always get the seafood platter which comes with stuffed jumbo shrimp, bacon wrapped shrimp, and catch of the day fish I believe. Everything here is excellent though.
Excellent food but extremely noisy
Good sushi! And great atmosphere, service is slow. Since I’ve lived here chucks has been a staple in town and the place to take a date. Food is usually pretty good, but expect there to be a long wait and slow service. I don’t think their kitchen is equipped to handle the size of the restaurant. And expect to spend $50+ per person. It can be a hit or miss kind of place.
I really enjoy Chuck’s. It is a great place to go for a nice date night. They are pricy but I think it’s worth the money. The food is amazing and the staff is extremely friendly. The sushi is extremely good and always fresh. I feel like this is a must good restaurant in Tuscaloosa. Side note: it does get loud in the restaurant and there is usually a wait. I would recommend to go before 6:00 pm on Friday and Saturday to not to worry about a wait.
Best meal in Tuscaloosa so far and I have had some EXCELLENT meals.
Sushi bar upstairs, see Brandon... wont be disappointed...
Those who got fish got a small portion. For $30+ per plate it wasn't enough. What they served was very good.
Great atmosphere, green beans, snapper and grit cakes were great. Topped off with bread pudding and icecream.
This was our first visit to Chuck's and we loved it! Wide variety of food and our group each had something different. We sampled each other's dish and it was all delicious!
Best pizza in town. Great atmosphere, specially if you love the Crimson Tide.
Absolutely the Best Sushi in Alabama & with a Veteran Sushi Chef trained by one of the Greatest from Harbor Docks in Destin, FL. The rest of the food here is also Incredible.
Fine dining in Tuscaloosa, well worth a visit. HOWEVER, the Chuck’s Fish location in Birmingham is the polar opposite of this establishment. The Birmingham staff was so rude that we walked out. Come to Tuscaloosa, avoid Birmingham!
The Donkey on Crack is always on point!
Good food. Great Crimson Tide memorabilia!
Fantastic.
Amazing!! Best sushi I have ever eaten! Will be coming back if I am ever here again!
Chuck's Fish has excellent food and a very welcoming atmosphere. It's a little pricy, but a great place to go with friends and grab some sushi.
I ordered the grouper for the second time, could not believe how good it was each time. Can't wait to go back !
Not busy on a thursday evening. Appetizers were decent, but entrés took so long they offered free desserts to make up for it. Sushi and pizza were okay but nothing special. Steak was undercooked and had to go back, took so long to bring it back to the table that everybody was finished by then. Wait for the desserts was ridiculously long again just to find the bread pudding tasteless and blondie/brownie only ok. Homemade icecream was good. Atmosphere is okay, comparable to Five, just pretty dark. Won't be back considering what we got for the money we spent.
This place was delightful for sushi. My husband had niguri l and I had a soft shell crab roll. Very nice.
Went to a friend's birthday party there. The food was fantastic, the atmosphere was very relaxing and service was excellent. I would definitely recommend this restaurant and go back again.
Love it here food is amazing
One of my favorite places to eat in Tuscaloosa. The sushi is good and the entrées vary over a plethora of flavors from Asian fusion to a traditional fish house. The Sake bottles are very cheap too!
Good is good but service is hit or miss. Sometimes service is great, other times not so much.
Not a fan. Scallops were ruined by the churtney. Odd combo. They should stay away from Sushi. My crunchy tuna roll tasted like a mayonnaise roll. Signature drinks are imaginative but horrible. Crimson mule is a major fail. Other than that I really liked it. Not.
Food and service were amazing! Will definitely be going back.
Best fish and best wood fire pizza in town!
Great service and nice atmosphere for an awesome meal.
It's Chuck's.what else should be said. Steaks Seafood and Pizza and fabulous Sushi
Ordered both blackened fish of the day as well as one item from the sushi menu to split with a friend. I think we substituted out the sides that came with the entree to get mashed potatoes and asparagus instead. Everything was delicious.
Great food and great service. Although all the entrees are good, the daily catch is excellent.
Great atmosphere. Great food (kinda pricey). Nice people. Will definitely go back! :)
Gumbo is some of the best I ever tasted. Service was excellent. Scollops were awesome.
Love Tuesday night sushi!!!!!!$
Best fish and sushi around
I have been to Chuck's Fish and liked it very much. I asked for directions recently so I could stop there on my way home from Memphis. But a bad storm and flooding brought about a change of route, do I'll have to pick another time. Fried Green Tomato BLT and a Bloody Mary were on my mind. If you haven't tried that, you should!
Super cool place, awesome food!
Great food, good service. Rotating selection of fresh caught fish.
Great atmosphere. Food it awesome
My favorite restaurant in Tuscaloosa, great menu, great service, you can't go wrong here. They also make a delicious Moscow Mule.
Great food and atmosphere. Our server was very helpful. Service was great. We ordered mainly sushi for our meal. Food was fresh. I would definitely consider coming back to this restaurant if I was in town again. Easy location with free parking. But most importantly great food
Fantastic Sushi. Great drinks. If you want a off menu roll, ask the sushi chefs to make their own creations, they won't disappoint you.
Fantastic restaurant. Owned by the people that created Five. I highly recommend their crab cakes, filets and especially the Sushi. If you want a beautiful central location and don't mind spending a bit per meal I highly recommend it. Hard to come by a better restaurant in the area.
Service was excellent!
5 stars for taste but taking away for portion size. Very small portions and very expensive for what you get in my opinion. The blackened fish was literally half the size of my palm and about 1/2 inch thick. Too much money to leave hungry.
Had a fabulous meal with the best server, Judson! He knew all about the Sushi and drink menu. Everything was perfect and the fish I had melted in your mouth. I will be back.
Best fish restaurant in town
Great place in Tuscaloosa to get your seafood fix.. Being on Gulf coast all my life and coming up to TTown and to get fresh seafood was a surprise...Great food..Little high but for great seafood you can't beat in in Tuscaloosa.
Restaurant was slammed some had about a 45 minute wait on table and about the same time on our food, but the food was worth the wait. I would recommend the ribeye and mashed potatoes with the vegetable of the day and bowl of gumbo for your appetizer. You wont go wrong with that choice.
No name roll all time favorite... Best sushi !!! Desert a must whute chocolate bread pudding.
Delicious, unique sushi
Very enjoyable atmosphere. Good food and drink.
Best fish and sea food in town! Great service!
The food and service is first rate. I enjoyed a delicious cup of seafood gumbo that I would say is the definition of seafood gumbo. My wife and daughter shared the Black and Bleu pizza that was plentiful and very tasty. My blacked fish tacos was outstanding and was complemented with the rice pilaf. It has been too long since we have visited this establishment but we will be back soon.
Great food and great service
One of the best fine dining restaurants in town. Casual atmosphere. Fresh seafood delivered from the gulf. Best sushi in town. Wood fired pizzas.
The Best sushi ever!
It can be a bit loud, but the excellent food and service makes up for that.
Good food. Can be a loud place.
Great food. Great service and atmosphere.
Date night with the hub. Great atmosphere. Amazing food. Waitress was super helpful in telling what was recommended. Looking forward to our next visit. Highly recommend the "Donkey on Crack" sushi and the blackened snapper. For a appetizer, try the tuna dip!
Great ambiance. Trendy place with eclectic menu & sushi bar. Sure to please everyone
Great atmosphere and good food.
My classmates and really enjoyed ourselves at this venue. Thanks for welcoming the Central High class 1993 we had a ball!!!!
One of the best restaurants in T-Town! Its my favorite place to eat because of the fresh fish and delicious sushi! Wish it was bigger because it gets crowded on game days. Servers are special and always friendly.
Great service on a Friday night. ( we had reservations). I had the filet which was cooked to order. I also had a salad and saved most of it to have as a side with the steak.
Service was slow and subpar for the prices you pay. Took roughly an hour for the food to come out. The restaraunt was not packed, so the service and wait for food was unacceptable. Not to mention, the sushi was not fresh. Paying high end prices for a roll that tastes fishy is not it. Second time here and it was exactly like the first time. Attending a birthday dinner, but should have went to chophouse due to the lack of everything.
Great food. Pretty good service. Had the crab cakes and they were great
This place is tucked away in downtown Tuscaloosa, from the front you have no idea that it is as spacious at it is. Very cozy romantic feel. Rustic look, dim lighting ,I just love the atmosphere. Great place for a romantic dinner. It even has an upstairs that is available for renting. ..dinner parties, wedding receptions, and your guest never have to go down stairs because its equipped with its very own bar and bathroom's, just simply beautiful! !
Not a lot to say about this famous place in Tuscaloosa that hasn't already been said. The food is widely known to be great, but you may not have heard about the service. A more courteous, polite, patient group of people I doubt you will ever encounter.
Excellent atmosphere, our server Leah was awesome, and the filet is FIRE!! Give this place a try the next time you find yourself in Tuscaloosa.
Pricey, but worth the money. All the food is so good, great quality in everything they bring out to your table.
Wonderful place!
Wonderful meal...ask for the secret menu
I ate there Thursday night for the first time. I was looking forward to it but was very disappointed. I ordered the grouper and was serve 2 small pieces the thickness of a potato chip. I love seafood but this was terrible. I would have sent it back but I was with a group and it would have been very awkward . The service was great and dessert was great.
Very friendly sushi bar with good ambience and great food! Once they meet you they know you!
Not good
Good food and great staff. Prices are a bit high but food servings are generous.
I will never ever come back to Chuck’s! We came on a slow Thursday evening. We ordered our sushi before our meal, however I meal came out and we were done eating, and still no sushi! They didn't try to take off our bill or anything. Just a lame free dessert! I really wanted to make this our seafood spot. However, we will be going across the street to the Oyster Restaurant! #StayAway #SushiTakesWay2Long #ManagementSucks
Our party of 11 enjoyed yellowfin tuna dip and uptown shrimp as appetizers. Several shared pizza, one had penne chicken, one had Chuck's salad, two had seafood pasta, two had parmesan crusted fish and the others had the fresh catch of the day. Of course, all the seafood is fresh from the owners dock in Destin, FL. Service was great and we were all too stuffed to try dessert. I would definitely return to this restaurant and will try their other locations when traveling.
Great food, atmosphere, and service happens here!
Always good sushi and the friendliest sushi chefs in town.
Good food and good ambiaence. The wait staff here are really friendly and helpful, but the place is a little overpriced for the size of the portions. Especially for being a college town restaurant.
Very good food
Great Place. Great ambiance. Amazing food, atmosphere and service. Highly recommend
I went there for the first time every with my parents today. This place was practically empty during dinner hours, with several staff members around. Our poor server looked as if she had lost the hope of joy in her life, and even then at least was sweet enough to try and fix the errors (with excuses but she tried) that were bring made. 3 people. 3. That's it for this table. One plate was piping hot, one luke warm (if that's what you can call it), and one that was as cold as the a/c. Food is good but please, $28, $38, $50 worth for an entree I can make myself at home with little practice? Easily smaller portions, loud atmosphere, somber servers, high prices.....save yourselves the trouble. Half Shell is across the street with slightly better pricing, better lighting, and servers who care to at least smile. Also, whoever makes Chuck's bread and risotto could really stand to learn that yes, salt is an ingredient added in food -_- it's not decoration.
Over priced. Decent food.
I have been there when it was great. Still, the past two visits were surprisingly disappointing. Overcooked and extremely salty side dishes a couple months ago. Had the same meal at R Davidson and it was much better. Moldy raspberries on the breakfast bar one time maybe 2 years prior to that.
Food was good but the atmosphere was terrible for the price. Loud, and they were playing Family Guy on the TVs? Not a place for a nice dinner.
Awesome restaurant...one of the best in Tuscaloosa...food is spectacular
Very nice atmosphere, the food and the service was excellent. Highly recommend. Tye wait staff was very attentive.
Chuck’s in Tuscaloosa has terrible customer service. The staff have made it clear several times that they truly don’t care about business retention. Getting someone on the phone (even to inquire about purchasing gift cards, or to place a take out order) is basically impossible. Furthermore, service in the dining area is below average on a consistent basis. I have been disappointed enough that I truly recommend seeking another establishment for your dining experience.
That ribeye steak....! Donkey on Crack sushi roll and the Ed roll! Great stuff. Great atmosphere. Very nice place to eat.
Food was bland, it was very loud and the service was slow. Although the waitress was very nice.
Our daughter is an UA student and loves for us to treat her to Chuck's when we are in town. Has an intimate atmosphere with friendly staff. Menu isn't overwhelming and has just the perfect amount of selections. Salads, pizzas, fish, chicken pasta, and steaks - something for everyone. My favorite dish is the chicken pasta and the rest of my family enjoys all the fish dishes. Although they switch it up with the fish plates, The parm crusted fish is always ordered by someone in our group. Highly recommend resvos if you can.
Great food. And atmosphere
Went with Bama Alums. The look and feel are great. 95% seafood and sushi. I had the braised pork, delicious.
Their pizza is the best kept secret here
Freshest fish in town. Higher-class, chill atmosphere with an old style building decked out in wood. Has a real wood grill in the restaurant. Sushi upstairs is too notch.
It takes a bit long till the food is served, but the food is very delicious!
Arrived at 6:20 ,was not seated until after 7.Party of 10 with 3 tables of different sizes pushed together.Order finally placed .Seafood gumbo sent back because of no seafood except one lonely shrimp,2 of the 4 steaks ordered were overcooked. Ordered medium rare with no pink present.Promised 2 comped desserts.By the time the new steaks arrived everyone else was about finished eating and waited,.then waited again for the desserts.Seafood entrees were well prepared and not disappointing.I guess lesson learned is don' order steak at a seafood restaurant.
Food great.. just slow on getting meal out
Saturday night was my first visit and I must say I am happy to find a place with good food after moving here from South Florida. I was pleasantly surprised and well many times in the future.
Not good at all steaks were burnt still cost one 100 bucks
Solid, upscale restaurant. Almost always busy with a lively crowd. The sushi is definitely above par.
One of favorite places to go for Fish !
Lived the food and the service was right in par with the food. I'd go back.
My ribeye was great. Husband’s chicken pasta was dry, chicken was soggy and waiter was hard to find. We ordered sushi as an appetizer and before we even placed our order for entree. We received our entree before we were brought the sushi as I explained I did not want this to happen when I ordered. When asked about the appetizer, waiter inquired about a shrimp appetizer and looked puzzled. Clearly, we were not thrilled that our date night was not what we had expected from this restaurant.
One of my favorite restaurants in Tuscaloosa, and my #1 place for sushi. The upstairs sushi bar and area is first come first serve, so I usually do that and avoid the wait downstairs. There’s also an exclusive sushi menu upstairs with more extravagant sushi rolls. I recommend the Doing It Roll, it’s awesome (see picture).
One of the very best restaurants in Tuscaloosa.
I had always heard how good this place was, went only to find the food was expensive and horrible!!! My date had the seafood pasta, scallops came separate , seafood was overcooked, sauce was an extra lemon hollandaise with lots of raw garlic. Crab sticks in California roll had an old fishy taste and were poorly rolled, miso soup was very salty beef broth. We will not be back!!!!
Called ahead to see how late they were open and 11 pm was clearly stated. Got there two hours later and they decided to close at 10pm instead. Liara usually lie about more than one thing. Do not trade here or trust their actions.
Best sushi in town! Expect a wait on the weekend but service is always fast!
The food was fabulously delicious. Calvin was the perfect server. This is a must for a Tuscaloosa visit.
Last time my girlfriend and I ate here we had okay service. Waiter was not knowledgeable, nor did they refill our drinks for a long time. Then once we got our food, nearly $70 worth of sushi, appetizers, and a pizza, the sushi was not good (too warm and super fishy), then the pizza was okay. However, once we got home, we both felt sick and had some stomach issue after eating there. We ended up throwing all the leftovers away and we will never go back to Chucks Fish nor will we recommend anyone to eat there. It's not worth the money and the stigma for good food and service is absurd.
Very nice environment. Staff and food were great. Our waitress made my daughter a paper airplane and cheered her up when she was getting fussy.
Chuck's offers Thanksgiving to the entire community-homeless to all for no cost. It is done as a fundraiser for Habitat for Humanity. We went for the 1st time on Thanksgiving and it was outstanding. We had eaten there Tuesday night and when our plans changed decided to come. I was happy to give a generous donation and such a way to give back to the Community. Many volunteers & staff helped for days to make it happen.
Good menu assortment, good food, a bit pricey for just a random night out.
They say you can judge a restaurants food if their salads are great. I had the salad, and it was absolutely amazing. Just go from there. Excellent service.
Good service but did not like the food
Great food, fast service
I've always had mixed feelings about Chuck's. Their sushi is really good, and I like the atmosphere, but, to me, their entrees are nothing special. Not that they're bad, but I think there are better places to get good seafood.
Food was average at best. Service was good. Tasted like bar food.
Enjoyed the friendly environment provided by the guys up at the sushi bar. The sushi was delicious and will definelty be going back to get more! The chefs below use fresh ingredients and fish right out of the gulf. Amazing food!!
If I ever have someone visiting me in town, I always take them to this place. Their sushi is phenomenal. The service is slow sometimes, but food is amazing.
Excellent dinner and drinks here. Service was a little slow, but workable for a busy night. Would go again.
Best Steaks, Sushi and Seafood in town. It is pricey but worth it!
Fantastic sushi. Great atmosphere. Perfect for trying to impress a date.
This seems to be popular but the menu has changed since my visit 3 years ago. I had chef's special with risso, asparagus, and crab claws in wine sauce over mahi steak. I'm a gormet cook and love fish. This fish eAs all spices and no fish taste. The crabs had a strange flavor that by last bite seems like old claws that had bad after taste. Instead of asparagus we were green beans instead. Ok but disappointing. I prefer fresh and success that complement fish, not over power. If you like lots of spice - go for it, but I won't be back. Oyster house across the street was much tastier and my choice next time I want fish.
Food was great. Seafood Trinity was awesome!! Service was great for a Friday night. Staff was prompt and great attention to detail.
Upscale historic restaurant with great food
Excellent food and service
Amazing food and service. Highly recommend their sushi menu and the stuffed shrimp was incredible. A bit on the expensive side but well worth it.
The food was fabulous and the service was even better! Great steaks, sushi, and cocktails! A must while in T-Town!
To quote my wife some of the best food I have had in a while. The service was also well above average. This place has an interesting menu. They do sushi, wood fired pizza and seafood dishes with a couple other dishes for thoes people who do not like seafood. I can only speak of the seafood dishes. She had the smoked tuna appraiser and the seafood platter. The smoked tuna was good at first I thought it was just ok. But after a few chips it got addicting. The seafood platter was made up of 3 dishes from the menue and a side of rice and a daily vegetable. 1 Stuffed shrimp very good lots of crab in the stuffing and a nicely flavored sause. 2 blackened fish it had a grilled corn relish that was lovely and was cooked very well. 3 fried oysters these were the best I have ever had. They had a light batter with a kick. The rice was just a white rice with a bit of spice added but the daily "vegetable" was chickpeas with tomatoes and spinach. It was flovorfull goodness that I mixed in with the rice. I would happily make it a meal on its own. If I am ever back in town I will be back to this place 100%
Today was my first time with my wife here, amazing service! Amazing food!!! Calvin was our server, very very great guy! Thank you Calvin! We will be back for sure!
Meal was awesome. Filet mignon was perfect.
3/25/2015: Ordered and ate my dinner at the sushi bar. Red snapper (blackened), vegetable medley and deep fried grits. EXCELLENT. Thank you for the hospitality and great food. I'll come back!
Gumbo is some of the best I ever tasted. Service was excellent. Scollops were awesome.
Just ate at the sushi bar for our weekly dinner at Chuck's and it was just as consistently good as ever. I've eaten sushi all over the world and not many places offer as good a "comfort sushi" fare as Chucks. If you go in, get the "Donkey on Crack," but, beware, don't order anything else. You wont need it.
Great food, atmosphere, and service!
