I am a small business I was contracted by BCG. They gave me a verbal green light to proceed with a job and then retracted. At that time I had put in several billable hours. They refused to pay me because I didn't have a signed contract. As a consulting group they should have been the expert on how to treat vendors. I will never work with them again and neither should any small business.
