UPDATE: A manager from the bank called me to discuss my experience. He was polite, professional and listened to my situation and ultimately offered a workable solution. I appreciate the professionalism and promptness in addressing my concerns. Thank you! I was I just had a very disappointing experience with this bank which I have my auto loan through. I requested a "skip a payment" (which is permitted twice a year). I filled out their online request form on Nov. 12th. I never got any email confirming my request was received and I also didn't hear anything for a couple days. So, I called the bank on the 14th and was told no one had looked at my request yet and that I could call back on Friday (16th) if I still had not heard anything . Well, it's Friday (16th) and I just called back, as I still had not heard anything. I was transferred to banker named "Drew". He told me that the request was denied and that an email had been sent. I advised no email was received on my end. He then proceeded to tell me that I could defer my payment instead of doing a "skip-a-pay". When I questioned him re: the difference between the "skip a payment" and "deferment", he proceeded to talk in circles and eventually became argumentative. I eventually asked for his manager and was transferred to her voicemail. I await her call back; however, in the meantime I called back again to speak to a different banker about beginning this second option of a "deferment" which Drew tried to explain to me and was told that this was NOT a option since it is the "Holiday Season" and all deferments are considered a "holiday Deferments" which is the "Skip-a-pay" which I apparently not eligible for, since they the bank uses a rolling year and not a calendar year (if that makes sense) and my first request does not fall off until December of 2018. I am extremely disappointed by this experience. :(

I met with Laura Meeker about 2 Saturdays ago in regards to opening up a business account. She was very helpful with helping me open up my business account and was very quick with getting everything set and completed to allow me to get out very quickly. Due to the great service and her quickness, my wife and I have gone ahead and opened up our personal accounts with UICCU which Alison helped me to open and was very quick and helpful as well. We look forward to having this as our main account for deposits and bills and closing our other account with another financial institution. The only thing I am surprised of and why i couldnt give a 5 star is that the debit cards do not have EMV chip yet, which is a little odd since almost every bank and credit card company has them know. Is there a timeframe of when the EMV chip would be added to all debit and credit cards for your credit union?

Words simply can't express the AMAZING service that my wife and I received while working with Kimberly. She has helped us in so many ways and continues to impress us. She was friendly from the minute we met her, which was later in the evening towards the end of the day. She has been fast to respond to each and every question we had for her. They have given us so much peace of mind financially and that is such a HUGE thing for us! Thank you for all of your help, U of I CCU!!

I agree with Angela’s review in the fact that over the phone customer service is terrible. You feel like a bother when you call, which should not be the case when you’re creating more business for them! If you’re working with a loan officer on a loan and try to call them again later it is a major hassle just to get them back on the phone. They never answer and are not quick to return your calls or emails. If your loan officer is tied up, which they always are, the person on the phone basically refuses to handle your call and says the servicing loan officer will get back to you, and responds in a rude manner if you dare ask if they can handle it for you instead. This comes down to poor management...an understaffing issue combined with a poorly developed workflow system, and not hiring customer service oriented and friendly people. We have 3 loans with you guys and each loan has been this way, the ONLY reason why we come back is due to the rates, and that’s not a good thing for you guys. The second rates change and you guys are higher we’re gone.

Specifically Josh Hespen, as he took amazing care of me in the past and has saved me tons of money again. The speed and efficiency of the application, approval, and the closing process is amazing and effortless! If you’re looking for great rates and amazing customer service, Green State Credit Union can’t be beat. Ask for Josh!

Their online resources are not user friendly at all. I even called the number on the welcome mail they sent, I had to leave a message and still have not gotten a call back. I am trying to make a car payment not dispute something.... first payment and it will be late due to the negligence of the company and how inconvenient online services are. I signed up for auto pay when I bought the car, sent this company a blank check and everything. last week I got mail stating I needed to set up payment type. now I have to wait to verify no bank account. this is not fun....

I've been with this bank for 2 and a half years for my auto loan. Recently I have had some issues thinking I had insurance on my vehicle and they had went ahead and added there own insurance making my balance higher, I had finally gotten full coverage and my balance is still high and my car payments are now 700 a month which I cannot afford I have asked over and over to see if there is any way they are willing to work with me and they are not, they only advise to give the car back or make the payments they are requesting and if not either of those they would come get the vehicle. I have also been making my monthly payments of 430 a month and now owe them 700 for all the payments I have missed never once have I received a phone call or letter to my address I had updated my new address with them and still have not gotten anything they had said they had been sending stuff for over a year and a half which I know is not true.. when I had called in the banker never mentioned that I needed to be paying more said my payments were still 430 Very disappointed in everyone I have talked to so far very Rude on the phone. I am so disappointed I have never have problems until now and they aren't even willing to work with a customer who's been with them for two years.

The credit union UICCU has a unfair rule or policy I didn’t know about as a member when I signed up for a free checking account.You have to wait 90 days before you can make a cash deposit at their ATM machines, what a back word policy over the weekend when they are closed or on the holidays that’s when it would be convenient for a member to have that benefit, I can understand if you was trying to use your overdraft protection, waiting the 90 days would be correct but your using cash. I explained my side of my story to Adrian the teller over the phone she laughed at me 3 times instead of trying to accommodate me what a poor customer service. I made it to my 90 day period as of 4/9/19 with the University of Iowa Community Credit Union, but still are not allowed to use all the features that comes with my free checking account overdraft protection one very important feature, that was the whole purpose waiting the 90 days staff member said I have to have a high credit score to access them my benefits that comes with my account, once I reached the 90 day period which is 4/9/19 I was promised by a staff member at the West Des Moines Iowa branch I can have access to all the features of this account which includes one very important feature overdraft protection, they won't let me use all the benefits once again, I was misinformed and lied to again by its staff and the credit Union.They stole $34.00 in fees refusing to refund my money back on 4/9/19 from my free checking account by saying we revoked your overdraft privilege, it makes no since the day I was approved management revoked me my overdraft privilege, they claim because i don't have a high enough credit score, then on purpose let my items return NSF on 4/9/19 crook credit Union.

This place is horrible! Never finance through this bank unless you want to get ripped off! They add things to your loan without your knowledge, as well as sign you up for contracts without your consent! Molly who works at this company has horrible customer service and is beyond one of the most rudest people I have ever spoken with! Once I’m done with this company I will never do business with them again. I highly suggest that one one else does or you will have added charges to your loan as well.

this is a changed review from being very disappointed to I really like it. The front counter people are great and helpful. Especially one gentleman in particular and i cant remember his name but he is always smiling when I see him and very easy to talk to. I also stopped in to change my address and was helped by Caitlyn Tekippe, she was very helpful and nice. I do hope however the people that help the customers open up their new accounts please advise the customers of ALL fees.

Perfect place to finance lemons from Carousel Motors..any other Credit Union won’t do 120% loan on a vehicle that is worth it half of book value..Thanks but no thanks..stuck with a lemon. * I do have a loan with this CU and as of today just like many others just got also the bogus Insurance Request (even when I have carried full coverage insurance since day one of this loan and is set to auto-pay) as a way to up my payment next step is to complaint with whoever regulates this CU on regards to this common practice and get rid of this loan ASAP, I would Highly suggest anyone to avoid this Credit Union there is many local ones that are more customer oriented instead looking for every way possible to scam their customer.

I used to bank here, and I have since closed all my accounts. I had a 0% credit card with them, and I called to see when I would incur interest, so I could pay off the card before interest accrued. I was told that the teller could not see when the interest would start being charged, but I would get a notice. I also looked on my statements, but the promotional interest rate expiration was blank. Next bill I got, there was $95 in interest on it, and they refuse to refund it. I paid the card off the next day and closed all accounts. I also filed a suit in the BBB, but their rating is an F, so that doesn't matter. I also plan on filing a complaint with the NCUA.UICCU is only out to make a buck.

If you are able to get a loan elsewhere, I would highly reccomend doing so. They missed an auto-payment which put my loan behind, and also posted my payment to “a different account”, and I was told it was past due. I tried to talk about a special circumstance extension, and Tim Asher was the furthest thing from helpful - clearly typing from a cell phone and there was zero conversation to meet a resolution. Absolutely terrible customer service, and I would never reccomend this company to anyone.

Took out a mortgage in June and our payments have now gone up $71, stated its property taxes however they only went up $213. So someone please tell me why we will be paying that extra $71 the whole year and it could possibly go up again in march and September? So upset

I stopped at UICCU, or Green State Credit Union, to get information on consolidating some liabilities. I am very thankful that I met Josh Hespen as his knowledge and expertise will have easily saved me thousands of dollars. Josh was able to navigate the different types of loans and available rates and convey that information to me in a way a layman could understand so as to better enable me to make an educated decision. My total experience from beginning to end was very easy and very satisfying. It had to be the best service I have ever received from a lending institution, which Green State is actually so much more than. Everyone I had contact with was friendly and very professional. Outstanding service. I highly recommend Josh!

Unfortunately U of I is missing what it means to be a credit union; simple member services. The majority of credit unions in Iowa utilize a shared member services platform allowing non members to perform simple transactions like deposit a check or make a withdrawal from their own CU. Being the second/third largest credit union in the state of Iowa, one would assume this was the case. Had to drive over to Collins community CU to be accommodated.

Since moving out of state we have found it very difficult to deal with UICCU - WSDM. When we lived in West Des Moines we had no complaints since we could meet in person with the branch but since having to do business over the phone we have found the customer service less than desirable feeling as though we are a bother to call and ask questions about our multiple accounts. Since experiencing this we have closed one account and moving to close another this week. We were hoping we could still do business with UICCU even being out of state but found that due to poor customer service and difficulty in getting through on the phone without waiting 30+ minutes, UICCU was no longer for us.

Retail service is great, but if you're looking for a mortgage be prepared to wait over month for any sort of response. They are far too understaffed.

I would not recommend this place to anyone. Not even my worst enemy. The customer service is horrible. I don't like to do online banking since it's been hacked twice! I call in and request information about my account and I tend to wait on the phone for 20-30 minutes. It's horrible. Once I got to speak to customer service and the lady told me that she can't be on the phone with me since she has other callers. That's just stupid. I'm your customer and I believe you should be able to help me. If you hate your job then find another one. I hate the fact that their over the phone options keep on changing. I have a few family members who bank with this bank and the customer service agents tend to pull up my family members' accounts even when I give them my SSN. I'm gonna change banks for sure. This place is just bad.

Great place for banking. However I don’t have a problem with the bank. Just feel company needs to make it possible for members to make Loan payments free thru automated system, as other financial institutions do. Especially when there is only one location, in 10 buck two. Also I feel that being accessed 20.00 to pay online, and 10.00 if you use your debit card is ridiculous.

Switched accounts from another bank that started charging account maintenance fees. Caitlyn T. (at the West Des Moines Branch) is fantastic!! Easy process! Caitlyn is easy to talk to, doesn’t try to pressure you into anything and obviously cares about helping others! She is extremely friendly, conscientious and was able to review and address other financial needs. There isn’t anyone that I would rather work with, regarding our financial needs!

I feel very lucky to have this credit union for my two loans. I was very disappointed though when I called in to change my address. I was rudely told that I needed to come in and sign or do this online. This would be fine except for the rude guy who answered the phone. (Maybe it's because it's Black Friday. Idk). I will never use this place for any type of finance or banking, you call them for info regarding a loan. they bounce you around on the phone and then transfer you because they don't wanna do there job, and they are very rude on the phone.. I will be taken my loans else where.. they need to be more professional... so disappointed...

I applied mortgage loan online after communicating in the emails. When I try to follow up, I did not get response back. They did even ran my background check and credit score for processing. This was few months ago and I think his name is Patrick if I remember correctly. I send 2-3 emails and no response. They ran my credit score too which is on excellent side. I had excellent credit score and don't have any problem. I should have really went to the bank, I just moved on with other bank with my busy schedule. He is terrible did not respond to my emails and phone calls. I do have an account with huge savings. I have perks-savings account and don't have an issue and happy they excused one time on late payment happy with online chat support with quick response.

Very Helpful, Professional Banking experience-I worked in an industry that allows me to use many online banking modules. UICCU is top notch compared to many of the Credit Unions and even some of the bigger institutions. I will be referring many people to UICCU. Mallary Scott is amazing to work with. The window tellers are awesome also. They treat me like a person, not a bother or just 'another customer'.

Just trying to "add my insurance provider" and pay my auto payment online is impossible. I keep getting messages saying I don't have insurance on my truck...but I definitely do. Which worries me because I don't want them slapping their own insurance on there. I keep trying to add accounts so I can pay my bill but that feature clearly doesn't work. I've tried calling a couple times to pay and either get the runaround or waiting on hold 20+ minutes! Seriously is this a scam???

I've banked with UICCU for 5 years. They used to be great but within the last year their customer service has become HORRIBLE. Their staff is rude, they now charge you for EVERYTHING under the sun. Including a tax document they said they sent but didn't and were going to charge me for a copy. Ironic how I got every other tax document but this particular one... they changed how they accept mortgage payments as well. I've referred friends and they have had such awful experiences such as trying to sneak in unnecessary products/services in loans they did not ask for - which is ILLEGAL! I will no longer refer anyone to them. I will also mention that they have a great referral program; however, when you refer people and fill out the forms they NEVER give you the payout... I finally gave up trying to get it. False advertising on their part.

Couple months ago, I got an auto loan through UICCU, I was driving 25 minutes just to make my car payment, finally this last Saturday 09/23/2017 I opened a checking and savings account with Catilyn(teller) and Laura(banker), great experience! I made the car payment, waited about 30 minutes to actually open the account. Catilyn went out of her way to start the process to make it go faster, which I was glad. Laura was very busy and right after her other customers left she didn't even hesitate and came right over and got me, the process to make the account was fast and I loved that I got the debit card right away, didn't have to wait for it in the mail. I went straight home and told my boyfriend to go open an account with them! Great experience!
