American Eagle is another typical local credit union. My credit is ~750 with a 100% on time payment history and I applied for a small loan last week. The online application was ok, but the process itself was a hassle. In regards to communication, I got one email from them confirming that my application was submitted and *approved*. That’s it. No phone calls and no other emails. I literally had to call everyday to check up on the status of my application because no one was reaching out to me to discuss it. Also, to be considered, I had to open a savings account, which is fine with me. I did that online and their online form for that was super glitchy. It kept redirecting me and wouldn’t accept my current bank account information to make the minimum deposit (yes I entered all the info correctly). I was able to finally open the savings account and even got an email confirmation saying so. Now, let’s fast forward to today. I received an email saying that my application had been denied which is frustrating because they left me in the dark for five days. The best part is, after they denied me, I applied for a loan in the same amount at another financial institution today and got approved IMMEDIATELY with a good interest rate. Nice job AEFCU, you lost what would’ve been a very loyal and reliable customer.

Do not get a mortgage through AEFCU. I was fresh out of college when they loaned me far too much $ than they should have for a condo because I was working for P&W and the loan was not backed by Fannie Mae / Freddie Mac. Since then the market crashed and they did absolutely nothing to help me out. They told me they don’t give out the type of loan they gave me ... well they gave it to me!! I’ve been sent around to various departments for years now to try to get any type of help/resolution/compromise and most recently attempted their loan modification process to at least get a fixed interest rate... you can’t refinance unless you’re rich if a property is under water! If you ever get pushed the way of a loan modification request - just say no! It is immensely time consuming, and they’ll drag you along until you finally give up. There’s no actual resolution at the end of the process, so don’t start it! Their system is so archaic they only accept air mail or fax and have no electronic record so you can’t see your documents and have no recourse when they ask you for the same document 3 or more times. Instead there’s weeks & weeks lag inbetween requests, and someone new on the phone every time. You also have to plan at least 20min to talk to someone every time you call. AEFCU uses the most frustrating processes with no current technology. I do not recommend working with them.

This post is only getting a 1 star because i can't do negative stars..... On December 27th 2018 i applied to get a pre qualification letter to make an offer on a house i was interested in and the mortgage broker "TIMOTHY" told me my credit was excellent my debt to ratio was low however his exact words were "i don't think you have all the money you need for closing", Not to mention he told me all of this info without even looking at my bank accounts. On January 7th 2019 i applied with Northeast financial and my closing date for the house is set for February 15th 2019. I have personal and business accounts here and yes i will be closing every single one of them.

DO NOT BANK HERE! Their fees and rules are designed to separate you from your money. I had an auto loan account that I refinanced for a lower rate elsewhere, and had about $10 left over in a savings account. When I went in to close the account, they said that I had to wait at least 6 months to do so without a fee. A few months later I received notice that they had charged me two 5$ "inactivity fees", essentially wiping my $10, and closed my account anyway. I received no notice this was happening until it was done. Look elsewhere if you want a bank that cares about its members.

What I liked at the time I went to American Eagle was how fast I got to the teller!! Not a long wait in line but that could be because no one was there at the time! Quick access is great with professional people who know there job!! Thanks

Banked with AE FCU for years. Banks in general kinda suck but this is the best I've found. A credit union is the way to go if you wanna tell BOA and JP Morgan where to stick it. They are pretty accommodating. Course i never needed a loan or anything like that. Another person said their ATM card didn't work abroad. I traveled abroad and had no such issue. CC companies monitor you accounts and will cancel cards if they see a lot of weird activity. I warned them before I traveled, and had no problem. The minimum balance is 5 dollars in savings. No more no less. Which is nice for the average person living paycheck to paycheck. Plus I get 4 free ATM transactions a month which is pretty sweet since when traveling I can't find a AE branch.
