Beautiful artsy items for sale, restaurant was ok, the fish I had would have been good if it were not overcooked! The French fries were perfect!
Enjoyed my visit very much. Lots of cool items, something for everyone. I bought 2 really neat items for my Beach house.
Artists are exceptional. Food was a great lunch. Have been stopping here for years. Lots of space to exercise your beasts " including family " especially on long trips. Have found many unique gifts.
Decent breakfast buffet. Trucker discount after 11. Nice array of folk art, canned jellies/condiments, local brews, soaps, and lots of stained glass and pottery. A bit pricey for my blood, but this is all hand made stuff. Supports local artists.
Amazing place! So much to see, great food and nice people!
Located directly off of 64. Great rest stop choice while traveling and has a lot of craft items to purchase. I like it because I can walk around and stretch my legs on a rainy day inside of a building (so I am not getting wet). Warning: if you go during typical meal times, the line for food might be long.
That was fun! Tons of cool stuff I wanted to buy, however we only left with some marbles, a pin, postcard and fill stomach's. I think the guy cooking was John? He was nice and took the time to walk us through what they offered and cooked it up fresh for us.
We had a wonderful lunch - fried chicken, mashed potatoes and green beans; chicken salad croissant sandwich; and a grilled chicken sandwich with fries. Everything was fresh and delicious. The center itself is beautiful with great shops and vendors featuring the crafts of local artisans.
Beautiful WV made items. Very talented people live in our state
Tamarack has some very unique and different pieces of art, clothing, books, food and so much more. They have things from all over the state of WV. They have a wide variety of food, desserts & coffee as well. Sometimes you are able to see glass blowers in action & you can even take a class to be part of the action. I have done it before & you get to keep the cup that you make. It is a lot of fun. I have been to several events in their conference room & they are all great. Tamarack caters the events very well.
Nice place to stop on your way to Charleston
Tamarack is a favorite stopping place on our travels through West Virginia. Their selection of artists' wares is lovely, although these are not trinkets but works of art and priced accordingly. The restaurant has a nice selection, and the restrooms are clean and spacious (something I really appreciate when we are traveling). There's excellent parking and a sidewalk outside to get a bit of exercise. And then, Pokemon stops and gyms. Perfect.
As usual, great food and love the shopping experience...so many unique items not found anywhere!
A nice place to stop while traveling the WV Turnpike. The outdoor play area is a nice place for the kids to stretch their legs. We've only eaten at the restaurant once, seems to be a limited menu but the taco salad I had was delicious. Also something unique to find when searching for a gift, just wish more things were in my price range. Many of the artisans are local.
Have stopped here several times. Always enjoyed it. Very nice art.
Worthwhile tourist trap. There is a great selection of beautiful regional artwork, paintings, sculptures, ceramics, and glassware. Lots of parking and very easy on and off by the highway. The food court is nice and offers some local cuisine. The one star I have taken off is an administrative complaint. The food court does not provide a detailed allergens information sheet for their menu and it didn't sound like allergens were kept separate. The chef and server were very helpful so I don't want to fault them, but it would be nice if such a commercial place was more accommodating.
Wow! If you are looking for home-craft products, this the place. Prices are a bit high for somethings but very reasonable on others. The buffet was good food, hot, and well priced for the servings and the quality.
If you're driving through WV you HAVE to stop at the Tamarack! The food is AMAZING! The people are wonderful. I strongly suggest the fish tacos, or rainbow trout with mashed potatoes and green beans. And if you have time check out the art, jewelry, and pottery. Treat yourself to a wonderful spot in the hills of West Virginia.
Love walking around to see everything. Great place to look for Christmas gifts!
The crafts and art are always impressive to say the least. What a wonderful stop as you travel. Inspiring! We were too late to get food this time, but have found it good in the past. Wished I lived closer to be able to participate in classes.
Murder & Merriment Show - first class venue. Thanks to Lindsay and staff - excellent preparation and adaptation!
Nice shops to buy local art and handmade items from West Virginia. Good stop for a rest during travel. Plenty of parking and walking areas outside.
I love visiting this place. Theres so much here that I always see something new every time I visit. Its conveniently located off the highway, accessible bathrooms and a nice food court too. I always make sure I stop every time I travel through the area.
Nice place. Most of the goods you can buy are from local artists. Though some are rather pricey but they are one of a kind. Also during certain artist making art and for a price a glass maker will help you make your own glass art.
Love walking this mall and seeing all the beautiful items made in WVA. AND they added glass walled studio to watch how things are made.! This is an education as well as shopping. Great place to buy special gifts for special people.
Great place to stop during a very long road trip. I stop here everytime I am passing through. Love seeing all the beautiful hand crafted items.
Nice place to stop and look at all the souvenirs and special gifts. Unique gifts that are handmade are there too. You walk in a big circle so you dont miss anything. We came right when they opened at 7am. Not busy that early. I'm sure its busier later on. Breakfast is pricey but it is a buffet. All you can eat.
Great little stop on our way to our vacation in Virginia! It had quite a bit of local arts and handmade goods. Even if your not looking to buy, it is still a great stop to look around and take everything in. Definitely worth the stop of you are passing by!
Go for a delicious hot meal prepared by Greenbriar chefs. Must haves: mashed potatoes and gravy; save room for cheesecake! Great place to shop for gifts nicely displayed by WV artists and craftspeople.
It was great I loved the way food was set up to choose your own food. Workers were very friendly and helpful and the layout of the building was cool the way it was designed as a big circle. I also loved all the artwork, definitely a great place to visit.
An unbelievable surprise while just trying to drive through West Virginia on a road trip. This place has one of the most impressive, expansive, and varietized collections of art work I have ever seen! You can spend a whole day there just looking at the amazing detail of the pieces there. Definitely check it out!!!
Good place to stop for a variety of food, food court style, at decent prices. Good place to stop for souvenirs if you've got a little more money.
This is a great place to stretch your legs and buy items made in West Virginia. You can sometimes find local artists working in studios inside. We love the cafe for a quick bite of country fare. I believe the food is prepared by staff from the Greenbrier Resort.
Excellent place to stop to get quality goods and a quality meal. Watch what you pick up because some items can be extremely expensive. Also keep and eye on little ones as prices for some pieces of art got for over 2,000$. There are also workshops here to see the local artisans honing their craft! The glass blowers are always a favorite and there is a huge selection of handcrafted glass items. From ornaments to dishes and ornamental pieces.
Beautiful place! Delicious food, friendly service. An awesome display of arts and craftsmanship of WV. Very enjoyable experience!
Very eclectic collection as they say. I love to stop here on my way to and from the south back to Ohio. From totally out there priced beautiful items to very affordable articles that are still very tempting. Great quality. Great staff and layout. I am glad I found this place as it literally is in the middle of nowhere WV and wouldn’t have found this if I hadn’t used I-77. I hope to be able to eventually afford the high end bronze articles.
Our favorite stop in WV. Delicious food at the Greenbrier Cafe with helpful advice on avoiding dishes containing gluten. The artistic craftsmanship of all vendors is exceptional! It's a great way to get refueled and refreshed when you're traveling!
Very neat place, great crafts and art, albeit a bit too pricey, the food looked and smelled great
If you haven't gone to the TAMARACK you must go.its great.
Lunch and dinner for CDL holders is half off! We had the daily special (pork loin) and it was DELICIOUS! Fun little place to walk around and burn a 30 looking at things from local artists!
Holy moley!!! Every state should have one. Gorgeous artist-friendly circular building populated by local W. Virginia artists. All media-glass, ceramic, wood, clay, music, paintings, bronzes, kids stuff, tshirts etc. Cafe as well. LOVED IT! Next door to large rest stop with food court.
Love this place!!! Its meal options may be great, but you cannot miss wandering through all the art, craft, furniture, blown glass, pottery, and other beautiful offerings!
A must stop and browse place. Eat and you will be happy. Photo of prime rib on Friday August 2 2019. Great places people food.
This place is a great place to stop when traveling through West Virginia! They are great food, and amazing arts and crafts. Worth the stop for sure!
You can tell that it's a definite tourist trap, but the art is neat, the people are nice and the food is surprisingly delicious. I would definitely go back, if for no other reason than to meander and browse. Probably the neatest thing I've ran into on that particular stretch of interstate.
Horseradish encrusted salmon was excellent. I love both, but never thought to put the two together.
Amazing place with a lot of locally handmade items from talented craftsman. Also food was absolutely amazing and if you hold a CDL they offer a 50% off discount for lunch and dinner.
A great place to stop and stretch your legs during a long drive. It's super fun to just walk through and look at all the art. My family always stops and gets ice cream whenever we drive pass.
I showed Tamarack to my mom when we returned on trip. She bought a hematite ring for $1 and some postcards. We relaxed from driving. I walked in courtyard while she sent out postcards. We ate sandwiches under trees in secluded park lot. Unlike closer to the highway it isn't so commercial. Tamarack offers relative quiet with clean air and some commune with nature with lovely objects to admire inside.
I fairly large space where they have a visitors center and gallery spaces and shops in one area. They showcase local artisans work here and you are able to purchase what you see and take home. There are sculptures and a lovely courtyard, a dining area, galleries and a musical instrument area. Check it out if you are driving by and have a few minutes.
Nice place with tasty food. A bit pricey though. Great for travelers who want a good quick meal and an interesting tour. The prices on the merchandise are so steep that it seems like the vendors would rather keep their wares than sell them. Get real people. Make some money.
We visit every single year. Absolutely fantastic.huge variety of unusual items. This year there was even a glassblower doing demonstrations while we were visiting.
Just wonderful! Worth the stop! If you are reading this as your partner is driving, instead of arguing about who has to always do whatever the other of you wants, simply point out that you can get all your holiday gift shopping done in one stop, down to the frameable postcards. The delicious made to order food and menu specials are well priced and very fresh. Bonus: The storied Greenbrier Resort has much of their own merchandise for sale here.
Great place to stop and relax, maybe get a bite to eat if your hungry.
Always a good experience at the Tamarack. Good food options, friendly people and clean bathrooms for travelers. A nice place to stretch your legs and let the dog walk for a bit. Gas, food, restrooms, and even showers.
We love to stop @ Tamarack every time we drive south for whatever reason (on the way home, too!). They have local artisans not only creating on premises, but you can buy beautiful items to take with you. There is history, WV pride, and kind/knowledgeable staff. We have bought gifts, souvenirs + tasty food items to bring home! Stop every chance you get - you won't be disappointed!
Breakfast buffet was affordable and had many options. Beautiful arts and crafts. Great small playground for my toddler.
We browsed there and they have beautiful things. Nice art for sure, great, interesting, variety of hot sauces, other canned food. But no one asked to advise us. Sorry tamarack
Awesome place to stop. Lots of beautiful crafts. Local books, locally brewed beers and wines.
A quick stop with handmade goods from local artists. They have a restaurant on site along with a coffee cart.
Great place to take a break from driving. But the prices for the items are out of reach for the average American. Over $2000 for a rocking chair? This place is a pipedream for transplants to WV. True mountaineers would not waste their money there.
Let WV artisans shine! Best rest stop in the USA. Take home a unique souvenir.
This has been a stop on our several trips to North and South Carolina over the years. They have nice shops and art to see alongside quality food at pretty good prices. It is well worth the stop!
Prices are generally a higher here than buying direct from the actual supplier but it's to be expected. The real all star here is the food court (try the trout) and the ice cream (best waffle cone I've ever had and massive portion, only get 1 scoop!). Wine selection is great just a little over priced compared to the actual vineyards; although, forks of the cheat was the same price here as in Morgantown!
We always stop here on our way to Bristol for the race. Lot of parking for your travel trailer. Easy to get in and out of the parking lot.
Good highway stop. Interesting art and gift shop are almost like a museum. Have the ice cream.
Amazing artists and friendly staff. The food is worth every penny and the bathrooms are clean. Memories made very time.
Super clean rest stop and some truly amazing artwork. The Starbucks was a nice surprise and a much needed boost to keep driving. Easy to get on and off the interstate.
Amazing artwork by West Virginia artisans, good food, and friendly service. A very nice place to visit. Time well-spent!
So many cool things to look at. And wonderful food in the "food court"!
This place is like a hidden gem, such a neat little place. I was happy to find it, try the ice cream shop it's delicious, restaurant there is ok. Shops there sell some pretty cool things, this is nice place to spend some time in to cool down or buy some gifts to take back home.
Beautiful and one of a kind artwork, quilts, even clothes, home decor, you name it! They even have a theater and restaurant inside! At first, I didn't want to go. I have a lot going on, but I'm glad I let my dad take me there. It was absolutely beautiful (pricey but beautiful.)
Found a travel mug that I love. The food at the food court was excellent.
Always love to stop here and see the art and shop for gifts. Great food. Too
Great place to shop and eat. A must stop if you are traveling through. They have allot of arts and crafts to browse and buy. The cafeteria is wonderful. We had pan seared trout with veggies and bread pudding that was wonderful. I wish every state had a place like this
It's really good place to get off the highway, walk around enjoy the craftsmanship of the work displayed inside
Historic with amazing food, friendly staff. Vendors sell home made things here as well as you can take pottery classes. It's a great put stop for traveling or if your a local it's a great meet spot for breakfast, lunch, or dinner.
West Virginia artisans in one place. Very nice products for sale. Relax and take a break from driving
Pricy...good to take a break from driving an look at stuff...food was mediocre for the price id expect more
A very interesting welcome area for West Virginia. Interesting shops and local artists displaying a wide array of crafts. Also a great restaurant that is run by the Greenbrier.
Beautiful crafts. Very nice food available
It just looks like a big gift shop from Disney without the mouse everywhere. The cafeteria is over priced as well. The travel center is worse. At least Tamarack has clean bathrooms.
Very clean and nice. All the art is beautiful. The food is really good to
This place is the best rest/gift stop to make
Beautiful place. The artists have made unique items of glass, wood, bronze, jewelry and honey, jams and sauces. They had a restaurant there, though I didn't eat. I am a truck driver and the service plaza provides parking, with a long stairs up to Tamarack. It is so nice when I can enjoy these things, rather then wishing it. And I spent $58.
Was great! Mashed Potatoes and gravy was probably the best I've ever had or comparable to the best. The brisket was good and BBQ was average.
Fun place to stop. Spent too much money on glass items. Worth the stop to see the art, take a break and get so food
Great selection of local products from Virginia ranging from art to food. The staff is very helpful and friendly. Definitely worth a stop if you're passing through the area
Get a good lunch and find many charming craft goods from around the state. Did you know Fiesta cookware is made here?
Yep, that's a real wooden chainsaw! Bought some ice cream for now and some nationally award winning Cherry Blossom wine for later!
Great lunch to start our week long vacation! Always enjoy browsing the shops here as well. A treasure is always around the corner. A treat awaits in the food court! West Virginia's Best!
Cleanest bathrooms on I-77, quirky crafts, and ice cream. I've been stopping here on every trip north or south for many many years. As a kid I dreaded the tradition until I started getting bribed with ice cream. Now I do the same with my kids. I like sending my parents postcards from Tamarack too.
A unique experience unlike any other, with a variety of eclectic and intriguing craft pieces and specialty snacks and drinks to see and buy. The cafeteria is an essential destination, with some of the best trout you'll taste anywhere, and handmade desserts to satisfy any sweet tooth. If you're driving by this one-of-a-kind location, do yourself a favor and stop in.
Very pricey. But excellent quality. Lots of hand-made merchandise.
Food is excellent. Prices are good for what you're getting (pricey compared to fast). Although not all the staff was friendly, I can let it slide since it was the lunch rush and they weren't rude, just a little pushy to try to keep things moving along, which can be nice when you're at the back of a line.
I absolutely loved shopping at Tamarack. There is such a wide selection of hand-made artisan decorations and house-ware. I recommend a visit to anyone, but especially people who are interested in crafting, artistry, and fine-made goods!
Pretty decent for a rest stop on a long journey, don't plan to buy much unless you want to blow the vacation fund. Bathrooms were clean and decently maintained.
Commercial truck drivers get half off amazing food. One of the best stops in the country for CDL holders.
They have authentic craftsman items. Baskets can run up to $1,000. But, if money isn't an issue it is great. Don't get me wrong. It is an experience whether you purchase or not. They do have hand made items for less than $20. They also have a glass blowing studio. It is fabulous.
Great selection of handcrafted and professional art. Great service staff and excellent meals. Maxwell is a fantastic customer service rep.
This was a great place to stop.not only could you eat and shop but the art work was totally worth the stop.
Great food! Amazing environment! Has the coolest West Virginia made everything from food to glass and art; paintings, furniture, quilts stain glass and so so much more. This is truly the best of West Virginia! Awesome place, has a play area for kids and just all around a must stop place. Right off interstate past travel plaza. Fun for all ages.
Delicious food! Friendly staff! It's a must go to if in the area.
Food was great, but what I enjoyed the most was the smiling face of the lady behind the counter. I can't wait till the next time I can stop here on my way home from visiting family in Virginia. She deserves a raise!
I really thought there would be more to it but for what it had it did show off the local talents. We did buy some local honey and syrup that was on display. The customer service was great, everyone in the Tamarack were super friendly and helpful.
Handcrafted items! Nice! Lots of different items and they are very well made and talented!
Awesome place everything is made on site or in the State. Something for everyone to see and enjoy. Free to look around everything is for sale and food is great
Local art of all kinds and delicious food at the cafeteria. I tried the chicken pot pie, but it was hard to make a choice because it all looked and smelled delicious. There is art for someone of every taste, but even if you choose to not take any home with you it’s well worth the trip. Its just like visiting a museum, but with the added bonus of the best gift shop around.
Kinda pricey, but the food is fantastic. I usually get mashed potatoes and green beans, but the greens are really good too. They have large yellow peaches that are just great, and you get to look at all the local art. They have shows and events, books on sale written by local authors, and locally made goods.
Very nice place to stop. Lots of local, high quality Appalachian artistry on display and for sale. Food is very good, buffet style.
This place is great! It's so neat to see such inspired artists work. Can't wait to go back next year.
Very neat place to stop and look around. Like an art gallery but better. All kinds of creations for sale. Mostly very expensive. But they are one of a kind pieces.
Very cool place to stop and check out when you are traveling. Lots of handmade items and art. Baskets, candy, soap, glass ware, craft beer, pottery, sculptures, weaving, photography, wooden toys and more. They have a restaurant too.
Okay place but nothing great. Decent selection of west virginian make items. But defenitly just a mediocre tourist spot.
It was lovely, wonderful and helpful staff. Wonderful art work and crafts for sale. It was interesting place to walk and relax along the drive. Not to mention the great food. Get the pie!!
Beautiful craftwork. Nice variety. Prices range from 2-star to 5-star, based on the complexity of the art and materials. A definite stop for people who love a craft fair.
Always love stopping here on my way though. Between the crafts and food its always a worthwhile stop.great place to get gifts for the person who has everything already as well. They have everything from blown glass to hand woven baskets, carved coal and metal yard art. The food is fresh prepared and extremely tasty.
We stop at Tamarack every year. Good Food, shopping, very clean. We love it!
Always love stopping here! Handmade and locally made items like honey, chocolate, soap, blown glass, decorations and a cafe inside. Accommodates parking for cars, trucks, rvs on upper area and semis on lower area with stairs to all areas. Also a drop off area by doors. Great place for unique gifts.
Was a very neat place Many interesting art articles and even musical instruments. We enjoyed it a lot. Many choices of food and well. Nice break in our trip.
Beautiful artwork. Neat stores. Definitely shows off some of the best craftsmanship I've ever seen, a lot of it, if not all, is for sale too.
Have passed this place on numerous occasions and decided to finally check it out. Parking is plentiful if you don't mind a bit of a walk, good after a few hours in the car. The layout is a large circle, with a large variety of "made in West Virginia" goods. We walked the entire circle, and purchased a few items. The variety is good, prices seem average. Is nice to be able to explore many different items in one location. Well done, worth a stop. On a side note, the restaurant smells were great, unfortunately we had already eaten and didn't try the food, may have to make a stop to try it in the future!
Great place to stop when traveling though. Lots of WV local crafters and artists with their items for sale. The food here is amazing and well worth stopping just to eat. Highly recommend!!
Great restaurant. Love the art gallery. I enjoy the artisans who demonstrate their talents. They have so many nice gifts and foods to buy. Seeing Santa Claus around Christmas is nice, too. The building itself is beautiful. I go here to buy specific WV mustards that are so good. Everyone should stop by this wonderful tourist destination. Also, I have bought autographed books written by WV authors for my library.
Good showcase of WV talented artists and master artists. Pleasant and knowledgeable staff. Great food court! (Don't miss the All-you-can-eat-breakfast!)
Beautiful, scenic place. Clean well arranged shops inside. Lots of variety. Great prices for different tastes. I loved it.
The Breakfast Buffet was a joke. The eggs were mushy, the sausage was undercooked, biscuits and gravy were room temperature. Then my husband asked for water, they charged him .25 for the cup! Who does that? We spent $25.00 for the crappiest food. We could have and should have gone to cracker barrel for a fraction of what we paid, the quality and quantity 10×
I dont hate it ?the burger king didnt have anything but crossants for breakfast so the kidscreally didnt have a choice alittle on the expensive side
Tamarack is a must. If you're a stranger to WV then I'd urge you to slam on the brakes. This is the place to grab a bite but this time the food is prepared by The Greenbrier, a 5-star resort. I think you'll be pleasantly surprised with the original arts & crafts offerings and safe food that's to die for and offered with very reasonable pricing.
Great place to stop and take a break. A lot of artwork to see and/or purchase. I like the circle setup of the building - it creates a chaotic-free flow and it doesn't feel crowded. The food court was nice with plenty of seating, including outdoor seating.
Lots of interesting things to see and of course buy. Restaurant is cafeteria style with quite good food and very pleasant staff. They offer meal specials for truck drivers. I will visit again.
This place is heavily signposted from the Interstate and it almost begs you to stop by! Lots of artwork and wares mostly from local West Virginian artists. There is a restaurant on site, as well as a movie theater showing some of the local artists at work. The site is very nicely done, and it's well worth a visit.
Nice, quiet, quaint place for shopping local items and non perishable food. Lots of interesting authentic West Virginia items from local artisans. Small cafeteria with ok food. It's a fun half day of shopping away from the chains and trends of the mall... if the topic is in your interest wheelhouse.
Tamarack is truly the best of West Virginia! We stopped for dinner and was amazed. We had the rainbow trout and a braised steak. Both were delicious. The crowning touch however was the turtle pie and the praline praline peach cobbler. They were magnificent! Tamarack looks in cleaned up! It is not as cluttered as it once was. Wonderful experience!
Interesting items for sale there. Not trinkets or touristy items. Food is very good.
I always stop here during my drive from Ohio to North Carolina. Very nice restaurants at the food court, very nice souvenirs to buy. I always find my stop here refreshing.
Something unexpected - must stop. Even if you don't purchase anything, it offers browsing of upscale art and craft work. During my latest visit, they had glass blowing demonstrations. A previous visit offered a dulcimer demonstration. Food, good parking, a nice break from driving.
Always, always, always something fun to see at Tamarack. Well worth the stop if you're in the area. Lots of great art and other WV-made items.
