I participated in a tour that Hosts put on for a conference that I attended in September. I was extremely disappointed with what I received for the cost of the tour (I attended the Haunted Ghost Tour). The tour cost $161 and we got disorganized bus service, a very small meal with very little choice (a choice between two options), a glass of house wine and a tour that only lasted an hour (that had 18 people - so in no way a small group).
I booked this tour under the assumption that we would be hitting up a number of spots and learning quite a bit. I mean - why else would a walking tour cost that much more than the jazz cruise that was also offered? In reality we covered maybe 3 blocks and 5 properties. And as far as we could tell from the menu at the restaurant we ate at, the meal including wine was probably $30-40 tops.
At the end of our tour, our guide didn't know where we were supposed to go, so we ended up standing on a corner for half an hour while she was busy selling her tarot card readings to other members of the group. Meanwhile other returning groups from our conference were boarding busses and heading back to hotels. Eventually I did make it on to a bus to my hotel after sort of drifting away from my guide as she was useless, and the driver didn't seem to know where he was going despite each person who boarded having to tell the guide which hotel we were at. He drove past many of the hotels and attendees had to shout and ask for him to stop.
Frankly, I believe that if we are paying a premium price for a service, there is an expectation of quality that comes with it. That quality was not there. I would not book a tour through Hosts ever again. It would be much cheaper and more convenient to book it independently of the group.
