About a year ago, I called Mel Carr Electric in Albany, New York because a outside wire coming from my garage was smoking probably due to the worn insulation. I called the well known and well advertised electric company I had used in the past on many occasions. But when they never called me after their first assessment, I decided I had to deal with a company that was interested in my safety as well making money. I called Mel Carr Electric having seen their well kept trucks and their rational drivers on the road. They gave mean appointment soon after. Jason fixed the situation temporarily and gave me an estimate For completion of the work. Due to health reasons and surgery, I did not call back for about six months. At that time, Rob (the owner) let me know that the initial estimate would increase after a date that was soon approaching. I was most impressed by his honesty. Having scheduled the work, Dan and Sean arrived promptly and in another review I outlined the reasons for my satisfaction: promptness with calls saying they were on their way; professionalism beyond compare, but most importantly, knowledgeable and competent workmanship. I needed them to return to address a small issue and they gave me an appointment within that week for Dan’s return. Nick was instrumental in that regard. To deal with this company is a joy. This company is great! We spontaneously had the electricity in one room of our house go out and couldn’t figure out the cause. None of the fuses in our circuit breaker appeared to have been blown so, following an attempt to flip all of them and do some Google research, we gave in and called Mel Carr. They immediately impressed me with their professionalism. The operator took all my info and told me he could dispatch someone immediately and that I should expect a call from the electrician once dispatched. Within minutes, Jason called me and with equal professionalism confirmed the details and my address and gave me an ETA of 20 minutes. When he arrived he was friendly, knowledgeable, and efficient in addressing the problem. He even wore plastic covers over his work boots to keep from tracking snow into our house. The problem turned out to be some loose wiring which he quickly and easily fixed for us. The price was fair and Jason was even able to draw up a quick quote for me for upgrading our circuit breaker (something that my husband and I were already discussing). I was emailed my quote and my receipt which was a nice feature for their computer program. When I called Mel Carr I wasn’t sure what to expect, but I can honestly say it was an excellent customer service experience! Don’t hesitate to call them yourself!

Called yesterday to schedule an appointment for an estimate to repair/replace a bathroom exhaust fan. They were able to come out today, were on time, professional, clean, and gave me an estimate. After tip-toeing around my sleeping baby (thank you Keith!) we decided to go forward with the work and Keith was able to go get the part and come right back to install. While it was a a messy job (cutting into ceiling to fit the new fan) you would NEVER know since the bathroom was cleaner when he left than when he arrived. I think we have had almost every electrician on staff at Mel Carr here at one point or another since buying this house several years ago and they have all been very nice, professional, knowledgeable, clean and polite.

I had a tree that came down on the power line coming into my four family home. Reconnecting the line wasn’t a simple job due to the fact that the old style fuse boxes were also compromised, I was forced into upgrading the 5 fuse boxes to 5 circuit panels. Now facing the possibility of freezing pipes Mel Carr Electric came up with a plan to get power back on the same day and finalizing the job the next day. My tenants were very happy and I was pleased not having to drain the water from the pipes and heating system. Will definitely use them again and recommend them to my friends.

$1000 to install an outlet? Prompt and good electricians but EXTREMELY EXPENSIVE for the job. It was straight run from the outlet to the panel to install an outlet. Look for a more reasonably priced electrician.

My techs name was Jason and he was great. He ran the quote for me about a week earlier. Super friendly, knew his business, understood my job and offered advice and tips, which I gladly accepted. He quoted the job ON THE SPOT which was awesome, I didn’t wait a week to hear back or have to call twice to get my quote. Right then and there he said what it would cost and what he could do. My appointment was booked for today, he called 30 minutes prior to arrival. He arrived and it was 25 minutes before my scheduled window. Gary Chafetz, a Mel Carr electrician, came to our home to locate the source of the problem that had disabled one of our telephones. I should say that he was not the first person to attempt to solve the problem: 2 nice service techs from our phone service provider had preceded him, to no avail. But Gary stayed with us through a complete diagnostic, found the problem (a faulty wire buried deep under the floor) and returned the next day to run a new cable. He did. The problem has now officially been solved. Through it all, Gary was pleasant, patient, knowledgeable and more than willing to explain what he was doing. I can't say enough about him and his work. We had assorted electrical work to be done and they were able to handle it all. We wanted to be able to light our backyard at night without disturbing the neighbors and spending a fortune. They helped us understand the different options we had (halogen, LED, motion-sensing) and they were able to install it without any wires poking out. They also installed an external outlet which will come in very handy this summer and fall. We had various issues with our two doorbells and an external light. They diagnosed the issues and fixed them quickly. Rather than trying to get in and out as fast as possible, I feel like they listened to our needs and really did quality work.

Mel Carr (Gary C) is an awesome company. I called ten different electricians to fix a light fixture for my tenants and they all had at least a week wait. Gary came out the next day and worked with me to have the job completed same day. He is very professional and curteous. My kids were around and he was super kind to them. He wore little disposable clean slip covers over his work boots as to not track dirt into the house which I really appreciate. Gary did an excellent job explaining what was wrong and layed out the pros and cons of all our options so we could make an informed choice. I'd hire from this company again and would highly recommend them!

Dan was our Electrician. He was able to come out same day of the storm to fix our riser bar for us to get power back on our house. Mel Carr was the only Electric Repair place in 15 to pick up the phone, or be able to help us in such short notice. I don't forget that. I had multiple issues to be resolved, minor and major. The whole house grounding issue was difficult to diagnose but Dan Amodeo arrived on time and worked through all of the problems quickly and efficiently including discovering not only did the house not have an adequate ground, but the National Grid main service neutral was not connected. My experience with Mel Carr Electric was very positive from beginning to end. Rob Carr was very pleasant to talk to on the phone and was very reassuring. He always followed up with emails checking in on my satisfaction with how the job was progressing. I was very impressed with that. Dave B., who did the actual work, was incredible. He was faced with a daunting challenge of replacing an old circuit breaker panel that was in a very difficult location to access. Instead of rushing into it, he discussed with me different options. When we agreed upon an option, he carefully and meticulously did the work. I was very impressed with how professional he was. He also installed a new vent fan in the bathroom that didn't have one and did a fine job with that too. Lastly, he redid the wiring for the roof heat tape that the original installers had done very poorly. I highly recommend Dave B. and Mel Carr Electric to anyone looking for an electrician.
