Just putting it out there. GEM Plumbing and Heating charged my stepmother Irene $209 to replace a bathroom sink drain plunger (not the full drain) $160.55 to put refrigerant in a new mini split AC unit that did not have a leak in the system, it was running fine and has been for two years, but on a check up they told he it was needed. And by the way she was on a monthly payment plan for service on the unit through GEM, and was told that this was not included in that plan. In my opinion they took advantage of a elderly woman that had no knowledge of the system and just paid the bill. #gemplumbing a history of this and have a person on their staff to deal with excessive charges. I wonder why???? About a week later Update. Still waiting for a call back from manager for a week now. They will not let me cancel the service contract with them until enough has been collected to pay for the “ courtesy check” they did on the A/C unit (done in the cold months). I informed them that my step mother has passed , but they refuse to cancel even if paid out until they speak to the card holder that the contract is charged. Well GEM thank you for your condolences but she has passed and can’t call from the grave. This is the type of greed they have. Ok update. Just received a call saying that she was overcharged in error and was owed a refund. That refund would only be given if I take down my bad review. Hmm does that mean they buy their way out of truthful reviews if they are bad? Maybe that is how they keep the good rating, by paying for it. Unethical. Sad business model to go by. I so to get money back that was charged in error I have to agree with the other overpriced jobs they did to take advantage of people. If I could have gave them less than one star I would have. The ethics here are obscene.

The gentleman that came to my house was top notch and I enjoyed having him in my home. No reflection on the electrician....but I thought the pricing of the parts was way over priced. I realize that it is necessary to pay a weekend differential on labor.....on-call technicians deserve extra pay. Specifically, the cost of a 20 breaker was outrageous! $200+ for a part that maybe cost $35 retail? Again, I have no issue paying a higher rate for labor, travel, etc. But a part is a part. What is your rationale for nearly 400% mark up on parts? $900+ for a breaker, 3 wires, and the labor/tech. Ouch!

I had an air conditioning system problem where water was leaking through a bedroom vent. Jacob was the field technician who responded to my home. He identified and fixed the problem in very little time. Jacob was very professional and amiable.The cost of repair was very reasonable. In addition, the office staff were extremely helpful, professional and mindful. The only recommendation that I would make is for the booking staff to inform potential clients of the initial evaluation fee, so that it would not be a surprise. Overall, the experience with GEM has been 100% positive and I highly recommend them.

I know this is 2019 but cost for word of mouth estimate seemed high. Written estimate never arrived. On to the next company. UPDATE. I received a very unexpected, quick, reply to this original post. The representative was apologetic and asked what the Company could do to satisfy me and keep me as a customer. I appreciate this concern and will give them another shot next spring for A/C service.

Robert and Ferb were the best technicians I have ever had in my home. They were polite and responsive to all my questions on my complicated A/C and gas furnace installation. They arrived with a smile and worked through hot, humid weather and a downpour, to make sure I had my A/C in before the upcoming 98 degree heatwave. When an unexpected noise started later in the night, Robert personally responded to emails sent after 9 pm. Ferb came early the next day and Robert stopped by on his day off to make sure the problem was resolved. (It was bad part.) Both Robert and Ferb were knowledgable and had attention to detail to their work. Robert understood the interaction of the units and space in my house and explained how what he did would work to make our home comfortable.

I recently had a 2 zone Lockinvar NKC199N combi-boiler installed to replace a 45+ year old natural gas boiler and an 11 year old natural gas hot water heater. The plumbers doing the install were right on time and worked diligently. They were also very personable and didn't mind me hawking around and asking questions as they worked. The install took two days as quoted which is fine. There was quite a bit of work they needed to do. The second day the electricians also showed up and were just as professional and down to earth as the plumbers. I was amazed at how well they could all work in tight quarters and still get things done without getting in each others way. I have also scheduled a 3 zone Mitsubishi mini-split a.c. system install through Gem and will review that next month once it happens. I would recommend Gem without hesitation.

Really disappointed with this company. I had GEM come in for a pretty simple repair and replacement and it went spectacularly bad. In short, what was initially asked for was never actually completed and what was done actually left me with leaking pipes. I called for a replacement of two valves that provide water to my washer machine. In my unfinished basement, the pipes and valves had also become loose from the wall (the foundation), so I asked that they be secured to prevent bending or breaking. I also asked that they take a look at the shut off valve to my water heater, because it had leaked in the past, but had not leaked recently, so it was more of a piece of mind thing. The technician arrived on time and proceeded to look at the valves and piping. After taking some measurements he went to the store to pick up two new valves (this was expected, you cannot have everything on the plumbing truck). The technician replaced the two valves for the washer and replaced the shut off valve for the hot water heater for free, even though he said it wasn't leaking and likely wouldn't be a problem (which I appreciated - seemed like a really nice thing to do). Now for the bad: He never secured the piping to the wall, but instead tried to secure one pipe to a board that held the outlet for the dryer and an outlet for a light. The technician told me that the board fell off the wall, and it wasn't his fault. I accepted this at the time and he told me that he didn't have any masonry screws to connect anything to the foundation (this is interesting, because he just ran to the store to pick up valves). Since he didn't have the proper material, I accepted his side of the story, paid him and thanked him for his work, even though he never completed the whole job (I couldn’t just make him stay at my house, if he doesn’t have the materials, he can’t do the work). I went down to look again at his work and noticed that 1) he didn't clean up anything. Basically, left the basement wet and dirty even though I went down with a towel and said that he could use it to clean up instead of wasting paper towels, which he said he would do. 2) The reason the board “fell off” the wall was because he used a wood screw that was too long, and popped the board off of the foundation (so it was his fault) and 3) the pipe leading to the water heater was now leaking. I ended up having to spend my Saturday purchasing the materials and doing the work correctly. I called to let them know about my disappointment and was told by Angela that the technician disagreed with my story, but when I gave more details she said she would speak with him again and call back by the end of the week. I ended up having to call GEM again, because I never heard back. I finally got a call back from someone who asked if they should send someone out to fix the leak (this was two weeks after the work was originally supposed to be done), I politely declined, since I really wouldn’t let a pipe keep leaking for two weeks. They never once offered to correct the situation, offer a refund or anything until my final call when she gave me the empty offer of sending someone out. I would never use GEM again for anything.

Big kidos thanks to GEM! Josue and Acton were brilliant and saved me from a scam I was going to be victim. Josue called in advance to get to appointment, got on time, then the amazing quoting process took place which it was after a thorough diagnosis of the issue. GEM is ahead of the curve compared to old-style 98% plumbers out there, which are not reliable, and never get commitment; GEM in the contrary are technologically driven. Their quote packages are shown electronic right at the spot and they explain very clearly what covered and what you get. Job was superb and always they showed and demonstrated conditions of sewer line. The camera job is well worth as they prove the entire condition. And the payment, via cc, electronic bill, no scams, no mickeymouse deal! Old style rude plumber quoted $3900, then he wanted to rise to 5grand w/o even doing diagnostic, and since I was on the hole, I was almost forced to eat it. Scam that GEM saved me for a total in the $500’s range. Amazing. Cleaned completely the entire sewer line blocked by aging roots main line to city discharge. Thanks again for the great Service!!!!

Paul visited our home on 05/16/2019 to check out our pool heater we were having an issue with. He was friendly, and correctly assessed that it needed replacing due to corroded pipe and offered to check with our vendor to see if the unit was covered by warranty. He stated it would only take a couple of days to get back to us. Well, we never heard back, still til this day. My wife left at least three messages with people at GEM and I sent him a direct email stating the urgency of needing an answer before we moved forward with replacing the unit. Still, Paul has not followed through with his original offer. We were forced to just go ahead and replace the unit ourselves and the people we found to do it were right on top of it... no false promises. GEM has lost our business for the foreseeable future.

The is the worst company I have ever worked with. They put an entire new heating system. Within 6 months the pipes were leaking. They wanted to charge me 1200 to fix there mistake. The baseboards kept falling a part and within a year they were all rusted. 7 years later I just had to replace all the piping and all the baseboards. Needless to say, this just cost me a lot more money. The new plumber showed me all the shoddy work Gem did. They used the cheapest materials and the pipe work looked like an amateur.

two days ago, the gas company install a new meter for me, I had a small gas leak in the pipe in the garage, I called Gem for service, they came and looked at it, then they gave me a ridiculous estimate to fix the leak for $1349.00 I was shocked for a such small job, I called another company and the job was done and fixed for less than an hour for $247.00, Gem took advantage of the situation they are thieves and all about the money ripping people off there are not the type of people to give business too, please get a second opinion? I could never say enough great things about my recent experience with GEM Plumbing! I had no hot water or heat due to my boiler dying and GEM came to the rescue! I was told to expect someone between 800-930 and both Tim and Jay showed up at 730am ready to go! They did an absolutely amazing job. I cannot give enough kudos to Gem Plumbing and its employees that work at such high standards. I had an emergency at my home last night at 10:00 PM after being out for the evening. There was a loud crash, and when I went in the cellar, I saw that my expansion tank had been blown off and flooded my cellar. I immediately called Gem and spoke to Danyell, one of the call center representatives, who understood my anxiety, and had one of the managers call me immediately, who sent Charlie, one of the plumbing techs out to my home. Charlie acted in such a professional and timely manner to evaluate the situation, turn off the water main, and proceeded to clean up the water. This morning I called Gem again and spoke to Nikki to find out when a tech would be coming out to install a new expansion tank. Charlie was back at my home in 20 minutes and installed a new tank, turned my water back on and was on his way. I cannot say how much I appreciate everyone at Gem for their first-class service.

Gem is a great company if you need something done fast but the interaction between their service techs and their prices are crazy. I called Gem because we had a slow draining toilet and they were able to come out a few day later. They charge a $59 fee to come out (no problem and they let me know beforehand). When they arrived they spent about 15 mins finding that my septic was full. They recommended emptying the septic but was only 50/50 if that would solve the problem. My wife asked a few questions and they could not give her a straight answer just saying we need to empty the Septic ASAP. That was untrue when a septic company came and emptied the tank they mentioned it was full but not an emergency. I was then charged $125 for a diagnostic which is based 100% on a guess. So after $184 (59+125) I got a recommendation to pump my septic and that they may need to come back to clean the main drain which they estimated at $750!?. WIll not be calling back again!

Recently, the gas company was servicing my mothers neighborhood, replacing all underground pipes and gas meters. When they got around to my mothers home, they noticed a small gas leak inside the home. They informed my mother that she would have to contact a plumber to fix the leak before they would be able to reconnect her gas service. The leak was in an elbow portion of a pipe and we were told by the gas company that it was an ‘easy repair’. My mother called upon GEM Plumbing and Heating to come out and fix the leak because they had done previous work in her home and she was familiar with them. To her disbelief, they quoted her $1,349 to fix what she was told by the gas company, was a simple job. GEM TOOK ADVANTAGE OF THE SITUATION (where my mothers gas service was turned off) and couldn’t be turned back on until repaired. GEM decided to turn this job into a ‘big to-do’. This put my mother in a spot. Thankfully, instead of just giving in and telling them to go ahead and fix it, she decided to contact another local and highly rated “Professional Company” to come out and look at it. They were upfront with her on pricing and it was on a per-hour basis plus any materials costs. When the job was complete, it cost her $247.00 and it took them a little over an hour to complete. That’s a whopping $1,100 less than what GEM was to charge for the same job/end-result. Incredible! Bottom line here, watch your wallet and by all means get a second quote before choosing GEM. I’d also like to mention that when the gas company came back out to turn on the gas, they had to inspect the repair work done because the gas was turned off when it was actually being repaired. They said that everything looked good and that there were no leaks.

Technician George did a great job for me today. He called and gave me his expected arrival time, arrived at that time and then did a very thorough job determining what the problem was with my equipment. He told me how he was going to proceed, explained everything very clearly and asked frequently if I had any questions. Once George diagnosed the problem, he explained what was needed for replacement and explained the costs. He scheduled the repair on a day convenient for me. George and his assistant cleaned up completely before they left. I know in the future I will ask for George if I need other service!

While pulled over on Shun Pike (Industrial Park), a GEM employee was kind enough to lend me assistance. Chris was also quick to notice my Veteran license plates, and thanked me for my military service. Very professional and thorough, assessing and diagnosing potential issues with freon leakage, finally determining that there may have been insufficient freon in the system during installation. Will recheck at next service in 12 months and assess next steps, if any. Unfortunately seems the low freon level was jot detected during the first service in 2018..
