My furnace quite running in late November. I called Gene's for service and they sent a repairman who was able to get the furnace running. He felt that I needed new pressure switches which he ordered. Three weeks later after not hearing when I would have my switches replaced I called to find out why and was told that the parts man would return my call with the information I was requesting. He never returned my call. I called again the next day and was told I would get a answer buy the end of the day. To this day I have not received a return call. The repairman also never closed my furnace after his initial visit and I never got my problem resolved.

We have been using Genes for our furnace and air conditioning needs for years. When we had electrical issues, we called our electrician. Of course it took 2 days for him to get back to me. And he didn't have time to see us. I then remembered Gene's does electrical and plumbing. We also had a plumbing issue. They were prompt, courteous and so conscientious. So happy we discovered (or should I say remembered) that Gene's is a one stop shop! Great experiences all around! Just had our bi-yearly furnace inspection with Rich Anthony and as usual we had a great experience!

Furnace went out when? When it was 5 degrees outside... Gene's was there right away to make a temporary fix until a new unit could be obtained. They checked in and made sure we were as comfortable as possible until they could get us up and running.

The service tech was thorough and worked efficiently. The scheduling aspect was a different story. When we called on Monday in response to a phone message th person said the repairman would arrive between 9:00 and noon. The technician arrived at exactly noon. He said they gave him an arrival window of noon to 3:00. Technically perfect timing. Overall excellent service and I recommend mend Gene’s highly.

Cody showed up after a PEX plumbing manifold inlet failed and flooded all three floors of our house. He quickly identified the issue after hours and working all day before coming out. He fixed the issue the next day. He also went around the house with me and helped me find other issues to help prevent another flooding issue. Buyer Beware ... AND KEEP YOUR RECORDS. This place is a mess. Bought a new Carrier Furnace in 2011. Major part has to be replaced. Although I have the paperwork, Gene's does not. Two weeks later, they have found it. Although two week ago, the technician was told to order the part they have not. Now, we are being charged 89.00 for the technician to come out and determine that a warranty part has failed. The fight is on.

Wonderful customer service. Had a backed up drain in the basement Sunday of Memorial Day weekend. We called at 6pm and they were there in about an hour, the previous service we called stated it would be between 9pm-11pm. Did not charge extra for the holiday. We are very happy about the service. If I could go lower than 1 star I would. They came out to diagnose the problem with my furnace and they did so within about 5 minutes for $80, then they said they didn't have the part to fix the problem but it would probably be about $1200 and that they would call me back. Well a few days passed and no call, so I called in and they told me they would look into it and call me back. They didn't call me back the next time either. A week and a half passed and I had to get my furnace fixed by someone else instead. The guy that ended up fixing my furnace did it for under $600 instead of the $1200 I was being overpriced for. They're very unprofessional and don't care for the customer. I have 4 kids at home and they must not care about my home being cold since they didn't bother to even return my calls. The guy I ended up having fix it was from a small company and they were so much more down to earth and reasonable. Stay away from Gene's unless you want to be ripped off!!!!!

It was a cold Sunday morning when our furnace went out. We called a company (not Gene’s) that we had used in the past. They came and told us it would be over $1,200 to repair. We are 74, retired, and have limited funds. We couldn’t afford it, so that repairman left, and we were left in the cold. It was 14 degrees outside and we were panicking. We called Gene’s. Soon after, their repairman Mathew showed up at our door. He took the furnace apart and checked many things the other “repairman” never looked at. He emptied out the Condensation Trap which had filled with water, then put it back together. It worked perfectly. No parts were needed. He charged us $155 for his service. Mathew was an angel. He is a good and honest repairman. He made the comment that he takes a lot of satisfaction in helping people do things that they can’t do for themselves. The other company was a cheating company who wanted to sell us parts we didn’t need. Gene’s is an HONEST company. God bless them. We simply can’t say enough about how much we appreciate what they did to help us.

Either the folks at Genes are not qualified or they are ripping people off. Genes was at my house on Monday as our a/c wasn't working. The technician came out and told us everything was fried and we had to replace the entire unit because it all was bad. It was going to cost us $6,000 and was going to take 2 weeks. We called another company for a second opinion thankfully. They said our motor was bad and needed changed. They ordered a new motor replaced it and we had a/c in 2 days!!!!! Total cost $449. So now maybe you can see why I said they are either incredibly bad at there job our trying to rip off consumers that don't know any better. I would NEVER recommend someone use them.

I have been a customer of Gene's for about 10 years. I appreciate excellent the customer focus I receive from Gene's starting with the call to make an appointment through the completion of the service call. For example, on the day of the appointment, customer service kept me fully informed of the exact arrival time for the technician within my appointment window. Matt, the service technician was right on time. Matt listened very carefully to the two intermittent issues I was concerned about with my HVAC system.. Matt methodically and carefully analyzed several concurrent events and isolated each root cause in a most professional manner. Matt was very personable and extremely;y polite. He took time to talk with me about his findings and explained them very well and what we can do. The approach will include a financially conservation first step with replacement of a part only as a last resort. This most recent service call is not a surprise. Over the years, I have had consistently positive experiences with the company. I would be remiss if I would fail to mention that Josh, who has also serviced our HVAC, provides the same level of outstanding quality service as does Matt in every regard. I should add, that on the rare occasion when a call back is necessary. Gene's will return in short order and ensure any follow diagnosis or service of taken care of immediately. IMO, that is a sign of a very good company.

Our AC quit on a Saturday morning and they were able to come by within a couple hours and fix the problem in a few minutes. It was a bad capacitor. They are very knowledgeable but just be prepared to pay for it. On a 90 degree day, I was at their mercy. After researching, capacitors cost about $10 and I was charged $250 plus an $89 service charge. This may be the going rate in the industry, especially since it was weekend hours. But after learning more about how easy the fix was, I think the cost was a bit excessive. At least the AC is working now and they will credit the $250 when I need an entire new unit.

I called them out for a warranty replacement of my compressor and TXV valve. My Carrier unit is only 3 yrs. old! Chris the Tech was super helpful and friendly. He explained that the Carrier warranty would replace the parts but I would be responsible for the labor. He said it would be a 2.5 hour job and I would have to pay for the 8 LBS. of refrigerant. So I got a call from the Office person with a quote of $1327 for 2.5 hours of labor and 8 lbs of refrigerant. Keep in mind the parts are all covered under the warranty. I asked for a breakdown of the labor and the 8 lbs twice and they said they cannot tell me what they were charging me by line item. I called Carrier and asked if the coolant would be covered since their part was the reason I needed to replace it, they said no. They asked me how much the HVAC company was charging me and when I told them $1327 they said they would highly suggest I get another quote. I called Strongsville Heating and Cooling and they were floored by the $1327 pricing. He gave me the breakdown of his pricing and said they could be here in two days and do it for $850. I called Genes back to ask again for a breakdown and they said they cannot and would not be able to match the $850. ( they already had the parts ordered and on the truck) That is a $477 dollar difference in labor cost! Gene's may have been around for a long time, but please do not get gauged by their rates. Highway robbery! I am sure there will be a wordy response back but 2.5 hours of labor and 8 lbs ($50 a pound on the high end= $400, so thats a labor charge of $370 an hour. Industry standard is $100 to $200!!!

Technician for company delivering the appliances broke the handle on the hot water faucet. Genes sent Cody right out so I could put the water back on in my home. I've personally used Gene's for nearly 20 years. Recently, my parents moved to Medina and on the coldest day of the year which happened to be New Year's Eve the furnace started making some kind of scary sound. It wasn't safe and the even more urgent problem was that my dad is sick and we couldn't have the heat down -- nor would it be an easy task to move my sick dad and my mom to my house. I called Gene's and within 15 minutes Derek was at their location. He diagnosed the problem and fixed the unit. He was prompt, kind and sweet and patient and our first hero of 2018. I’ve been a client of Genes for 20+ years- commercially in my various businesses and personally in my home. My home was even on a maintenance contract. The technician we usually have, Chris, has always been great and is the only reason I’m giving 2 stars instead of 1. I own a nail salon and our hot water tank has been malfunctioning- which as you can imagine is very bad with needing hot water for pedicures, laundry, and sanitation of tools and implements. As soon as our problems started we called Gene’s and they accommodated us the same day and late, which was very appreciated. However, it turns out we needed parts that needed to be ordered. So I called the next morning to have the parts ordered and schedule an appointment for the following week to have it repaired. Fast forward to our appointment day- no one comes and as it turns out, our part was never ordered. I didn’t find the office staff very helpful in navigating the situation, either. I didn’t even receive a follow up call that I was promised. I’ve had to order our parts directly from Bosch (which turned out to be about 1/10 of the price I was quoted from Gene’s) and find someone else to install the parts in a timely manner. We’re going on week 2 of no hot water. As a business owner myself I understand the price/value comparison. Gene’s has consistently come in with prices considerably higher than other companies (in many cases double) but I’ve stuck with them. I’ve stuck with them because as I previously mentioned I really appreciated all the work and help we received from Chris and often being accommodated with short notice over all the years. I found value in that and was willing to pay extra to have it. However, the carelessness in not ordering parts or scheduling appointments for a business so heavily reliant on hot water is VERY frustrating. Having to go around them, directly to the manufacturer is VERY frustrating. I don’t have the time or desire to be going through all this extra leg work simply because someone didn’t do their job. I can understand mistakes and accidents happen to all of us, but for the high prices I’ve been paying for the past 20+ years I would expect a little more care in commercial situations. Reviews are a tricky thing and I am by no means trying to bash Gene’s. They’ve given us good service throughout the years. The way this situation was handled wasn’t acceptable to me and I simply want it to be acknowledged for improvement in the future. Reviews are a helpful tool in showing where improvements can be made and that is the ONLY purpose of this review.

I called Gene's on New Year's Eve to receive an estimate on an inducer motor installation. I was happy when my call was answered by the polite lady who took my information. She told me after being put on hold they don't have the one I need in stock and would have to call me back with the estimate. I never heard back from them. A blessing in disguise perhaps, because since i didn't hear back I Googled an HVAC parts store online that I bought an OEM assembly from, and used YouTube to learn how to install it, surely saving me a bundle. I'm never one to beg people to take my money if they don't want it, there's always somebody else that does. I hope Gene's realizes I'm not the only one to feel this way and returns calls to potential customers next time.

Just wanted to recognize a wonderful experience. Our HVAC system stopped working sometime this afternoon. I was able to DIY troubleshoot and found that the 3 amp fuse was blowing due to a short somewhere, so we called Gene's around 8:30 PM. Matt, the technician called us back by 8:45 and came out and was able to isolate and repair the problem by 9:15. He was a true professional and took the time to walk me through what he was doing and why.

Their propane fill for a 20 pounder is $8 less than an exchange anywhere around the area. Everyone is friendly. The office had a small problem with their internet credit card connection on Monday.

This summer when it was 95 degrees, my A/C decided to quit. This is my 1st service call I've made for the A/C so I called Gene's because during the winter I've had them come out for the furnace on a few occasions with no problems whatsoever. So why would I think otherwise regarding the A/C? I have no complaint regarding their response time. But I take exception to being gouged when you feel you are at someone's mercy to get something fixed. The service call was $89 (which I was aware of) and the technician checked the A/C unit and said I needed 2 parts replaced. He said those 2 parts are $500 + the $89 service call for a total just shy of $600. I was stunned. Did he made that price up? Shame on me for telling him to go ahead with the new parts but shame on Gene's for charging $500 for those parts that actually only cost $10-$15 EACH. With a phone call to Gene's expressing dissatisfaction with the ridiculous mark up on parts, I received a check in the mail for $77. Well LESSON LEARNED! Folks--be prudent and shop around.

I've been using Gene's for the last 5 years here for all my HVAC and plumbing needs. They installed an all new air conditioner/furnace for us two years ago and it's been wonderful. When the old AC unit broke, they helped us understand what our options were and gave multiple price points. Scheduling them is easy; I do it online and they call me the next day to confirm. Their technician Josh knows his stuff and is patient and takes the time to explain everything to you. Professional conduct and great work all around. I recommend Gene's to everyone in Medina.

I have an inexpensive service contract with Gene's. It is about $13/month and is money well spent. They reminded me that it was time for my air conditioner check which is included in the contract. They could have waited for me to call and I would have forgotten. I have used them for years and a couple of years ago purchased a new furnace from them. They told me it would cut my propane usage in half...and it did. I have gotten quotes from them for my work and they have always been the least expensive with quality parts and professional work. The techs are always on time and courteous. I highly recommend Gene's.
