My name is James Tidwell. On 7/20/18, JEA was putting in a new meter in the pedestal at my house and broke the meter jaws (bar) in half. Thus, this caused me to have no electricity. Due to the extreme heat I was anxious to get the problem resolved as quickly as possible. I called Mister Sparky and the lady in the office told me they would have an electrician at my house the next day, 7/21/18, between 1:30 and 2:00. Mike Natschke, the electrician, came out and was there ahead of the scheduled appointment time. He was there before 1:30. Mr. Natschke was very knowledgable in fixing the problem. Not only was he professional but he was also very personable and respectful. He made sure we wouldn't have to spend one more night without electricity. I am very pleased with his work and professionalism. I would recommend "Mister Sparky" to anyone who is need of electrical work that needs to be done. I appreciate so much the quick response.

The service personnel are wonderful and do great work. However, the website request for appointment does not work, and the after-hours phone answering people told me twice that they had set up an appointment and had not done so. The company waived the standard fee for coming out, and did the job, but it took me three days to get to that appointment. The people who answer the phone seem dazed and confused, and unable to understand what is being said. They take way too long to get you from the call to an appointment. The manager was great, and the technician, spot on.

After hitting a wall with my interactions with the city of Jacksonville over the electric in a historic house I just purchased I reached out to Mister Sparky in desperation. Karen in the office was my initial contact and very responsive to my questions and concerns (and sympathetic). After some back and forth on how Jacksonville's government works (or really doesn't) she sent Matt out to take a look at the house and the electric and devised a plan to help me out, quoted me a very reasonable price on the spot and schedule of work to be completed. After 48 hours the job was completed. I highly recommend this crew. In my situation they came through for me and I plan on using them again in the future should the need arise.

I had a little outbreak during a storm and called to find if it's a normal situation but I spoke with a Brandon and he was really rude and blaimed the fact that changing an outlet can cause the whole light in the house to go off during a storm only. Specifically, add an electrical outlet to the ceiling of our back porch and connect it to the nearby light switch (so we could hang cafe/string lights). I also hired them to add some lighting under our upper kitchen cabinets. I really liked that this company sends text messages to let you know when the technicians are on their way. They also send a picture of the technician that's coming to your home - always an added bonus to know who's coming. Damon was very polite, kind, and professional. He was thoughtful about putting on boot covers when entering my home, listened to what I wanted, provided a fair quote, and most importantly - did a great job!

When I first contacted them, I was a little hesitant as I was told I could not get a quote to install a ceiling fan without someone coming out first. It turns out my concerns were unfounded. The technician (Pete) was on time,and completed the work very quickly and efficiently. We actually paid less than I had planned on,and I would recommend this company to anyone who needs work done in the future. Great customer service all around.

We recently purchased our house and the 3-way light switches for the whole house were incorrectly installed by the previous owners. We requested an electrician through HomeAdvisor, and they were the first to respond our request for service. Mister Sparky charges $59 to come to your location and give a quote, but they waive this charge if you have them do the job same day. The initial quote was for almost $2000 to diagnose the light switches. Apparently, they charge $134 each light switch to unscrew the light switch plate to diagnose the problem and this doesn't include parts or actually fixing it. The whole house was wired the same way, so personally, I feel like this is an abuse of charging their customer (the diagnosis was the same for each switch). We ended up only having Mister Sparky fix the master bedroom light and fan for $249 after a $25 online coupon. True, they were nice, on time, and professional, but we found another electrician to do the rest of the house (diagnose and install nine 3-way light switches and one outdoor outlet) for $180, and he was just as nice, timely, and professional. Budget wise, I wish I had contacted the other electrician sooner. If you can afford to pay more then these guys were great.

Travis and Tim arrived early and got right to work. The service call was orchestrated between my wonderful landlady and their office. They did a great job and more than cleaned up after themselves. They replaced an aging sub panel in the garage and got electric to two outlets that have not worked since I lived here. The last electrician who came out to do that job told me he was going for supplies and never came back! These guys trimmed the back of the hedges they had to work behind. Charles diagnosed and replaced 2 GCFIs and 2 Circuit Breakers for a total of $398. He and I spoke, and agreed this work took him about an hour. Although, he was at my house for a significantly longer time because he educated me about everything he was doing (as well as having to leave to buy/pickup parts). His work was excellent, and I understood everything he was doing. He gave me a price quote before doing the work. Had I refused his doing the work, I would have paid the $29.95 service fee; but having had the work done, I was not charged the service fee. The next day, I stopped at Home Depot to price GCFIs and Circuit Breakers--different brands cost different prices, but overall, the 4 items cost a total of $40. Therefore, I spent $350 for about a hour of work. I do not include his travel time (about 2 to 2.5 miles from house), nor his gas, nor other incidentals, nor my education -- as my hvac serviceman, my plumber, my garagedoor man, my painter do not charge for those incidentals. Therefore, I felt I paid too much. With that said, Charles is a professional; he is polite and clearly has high standards for himself and his work. If I were to rate him strictly on the work performed, I would definitely give him 5 stars. However, it is my opinion $350 for 1 hour of electrical work is excessive--which I consider 1 star. Average: 3 stars.

I have used them for setting up the Nema outlet in my garage for charging my Tesla. They did a fantastic job. My basement is fully finished. They figured out a way to fish a conduit and a 6 guage wire from my breaker box in the basement to my garage with just one square cut to my drywall ceiling. That was also in a way hidden because they covered it with a white service panel which sits flush with the ceiling. They we're were super quick in responding to any questions I had and the job was done professionally in line with the code. Could not be more happy. Thank you.

We purchased our 70 year old house in Oct. 2016. We required urgent service, due to a tree falling on the power line to our home. Brandon from Mister Sparky showed up first thing the morning after the incident and performed an inspection of the exterior and interior electrical equipment. He then prepared a thorough quote to complete all repairs, which included bringing the old exterior equipment up to current code for the city inspection and JEA. Brandon and his assistant were friendly, professional and efficient. By early afternoon, all required repairs and upgrades had been completed (which included work on the roof, exterior and in the attic on a 93 degree sunny day in JAX). I was changing the battery on my smoke detector (as admonished for when we change our clocks). When I removed the old battery, the detector bagan to chirp. No matter how I tried to insert the battery, it continued to chirp. I got out my flashlight and tried to find the proper points of attachment and it continued to chirp. It was 10p.m. and I was at the point of tears knowing I couldn't sleep with that chirping. I called Mr. Sparky and Brett came to my rescue. He not only put the battery in the chirping detector, but changed them in the other two detectors. Not only that he changed some light bulbs in my dining room while he was at it. Brett has been to my house before and is always cheerful, but at 10 p.m., that was a blessing.

We had someone from Mister Sparky come give us an estimate yesterday for installing a GFCI unit for an above ground pool. His quote was $1234. That seemed outrageous. A few hours later, we had another electrician out and his quote was $250. Saved us nearly $1000. Do NOT use this company. They will try to scam you out of money. Plus, he tried to charge me $50 just for giving me a quote. Ridiculous!

The electrician was FANTASTIC! Great service, friendly, explained things, worked quickly- couldn't ask for better. However, I can only give a one star review because their office is THE WORST. The work was completed on 2/22/19, and I paid on that date. I called twice over the next month, trying to get a copy of the invoice and to get information on getting a city inspection (required). Phone calls went nowhere, I would get told by the office person that she'd, "take care of it right away!" and then nothing. Finally on Apr. 3rd I resorted to filling out their online form, asking for an invoice and letting them know that I was not happy I'd had such a hard time getting all of this taken care of. I got an email the next day with the invoice... and absolutely nothing about the city inspection. I emailed back later in the month... crickets. Then yesterday I got a notice that I had a letter from them at the post office that I would have to sign for. I signed for it and went out to my car to read it and my head about blew off!!! This Brittany chick claims she spoke to me 3 times- in March, April, and May- and that I wouldn't let them have access to the house for an inspection, so now they were turning the matter over to the city. This is a complete fabrication. The ONLY time I spoke to her was when I was trying to get a copy of my invoice and trying to get the inspection set up, and the only thing I got was that she'd "take care of it right away". So now I have this legal paper with complete lies on it, making me look like I was the neglectful person. Needless to say, I tried to call them right away to get it straightened out, but even though it was before 5 pm no one answered the phone, and instead of going to voicemail the phone just cut off. Bottom line, I hope the techs find a better company because they don't deserve to get a bad reputation because the office doesn't do their job.

I had a quote done last week. The electrician was sweet, but the quote was confusing. It was nice to have the different breakdowns, but beware! They highlight the ‘savings’ number and make the actual total difficult to see. I signed and booked based on what I thought was the total but later came to find out it was the ‘savings’. Savings compared to what?? They want to charge $1800 to put in four ceiling lights which I’m supplying and a pendant light. The quote we picked ended up being over $2000 but what was highlighted was $375 roughly (can’t remember the exact mount). I asked the office to send me a copy of the quote and I got quotes which were not for the job we were having done. They charged my husband over $600 after I sent an email to have the quote updated, but never got the update. I have now cancelled our appointment and requested a refund. The agent on the phone said that it was not a problem and that they would issue a refund and send me an email confirming this. I’m still waiting for that email... This is the only electrical company I know of that charges upfront and what was charged is more than 40% of the proposed bill!

I requested a service call to Mr. Sparky to look into my rental property. My tenant called me that power cut off in her bed room. Technician arrived at the job site and called me that he has to replace the bad circuit and gave me an estimate for $827. I asked him if there is any discount. He offered $785. In order to realize that it will be something complicated and for the inconvenience of my tenant I agreed to pay. When he emailed me the receipt, it showed replacing 5 receptacles and 1 switch. I went to my property and looked at the job done was a rip off. Tenant told me that he replaced those receptacles and switch in 30 minutes. The actual cost of receptacles and switch from Home Depot is not more than $25. I was very disappointed and will never use Mr. Sparky again.

5 stars isn’t enough for the electrician David that came out to our house. We lost power to half of our house at midnight and I called them at 1am, as it’s summer time and I have 3 children in the house. As you can imagine it didn’t take long for it to get very hot in the house. Didn't ask for an emergency call so they got me an appointment between 8-10. David called at 8 and was here by 8:30. He gave an initial diagnosis and quoted me a price. After the repair he found additional issues that had to be addressed. Even with doing extra work he never changed the price and took care of the additional issues. He was so kind, respectful and knowledgeable. Courteous, professional, informative, but very expensive and more concerned with up-selling than fixing the problem. My dryer was incorrectly wired (not grounded and loose power cables), and burnt the outlet. Mr Sparky fixed the outlet and replaced all circuit breakers (unnecessary) for $1500. They then tried to sell installation of new smoke detectors and GCFI outlets for $800 more. Completely unrelated to the original problem, I declined. I ran the dryer once and it tripped the circuit breaker. I called another, more affordable electrician who did a simple inspection of the wiring and found the root of the problem within 2 minutes. Honestly it’s probably better Mr Sparky didn’t find this because they would have tried to charge another $1000 for it. Would recommend if there is no other option, but there are more honest electricians out there who will fix your problem and not try to rip you off.

We have a small number of apartments that we rent in Jacksonville. One of the things we do to try and keep good tenants is to try and respond quickly to complaints. When one of our tenants called to say that the main breaker at the electrical meter wouldn’t hold we knew we needed to act quickly. Living without power in August is not something we want one of our tenants to experience. We confirmed that the breaker was the likely problem and started calling electricians to get it replaced. We called company A and they couldn’t schedule us for 2 days, we called Mr. Sparkey and they put us on the schedule for that afternoon. The technician showed up ahead of schedule so it seemed like this problem was going to get sorted out easily. I left him to do his work. He called me later that day and said that the main breaker was no longer made and that he was going to have to replace the entire meter base. He said the job would cost $6000. He said the reason it was so expensive was that a lot of parts were needed because the manufacturer had flip flopped how the meter bases were being made. On the existing unit, power from the utility came in on the left and the breakers were on the right. On the new units, power came in on the right and the breakers were on the left, so a lot of work would be need. To put this in context your normal single meter base costs about $125. My apartment building required a two bank meter base so it was going to cost more, but $6000?????? So I called the office and asked to speak to someone about the job. I wound up speaking to Donna who said she was the GM. We talked about the job a little bit and she asked me for time so she could investigate what was going on. While we were having this conversation I emailed her a link to a 2 gang meter base made by Siemens that appeared to be configured correctly for our building. The price on amazon was $350. Donna said she would look at it and get back to me by noon the next day. At 11:58 the next day Donna hadn’t called me so I called her. She asked me if I had pictures of our meter base. I did not. She said she would send one of her guys out to look again. At about 10am on day 3 I called Donna again but ended up speaking to another one of their technicians. He quoted me a price of $3500 which seemed $500-$1000 high, but I didn’t want the breaker in our apartment to die and leave our tenants without power, so I approved the bid and mr. sparkey scheduled it. They got the job done quickly and in a workmen like fashion. When I went to inspect it I found that they used a Siemens meter base that was flip flopped from the original instead of the one I found for them that would have fit our job. As near as I can tell these meter bases are functionally equivalent. The one they chose to use just took a lot more time and parts to make it work. Before paying them we ask for a detailed invoice to see parts vs labor. They declined to provide one. In summary, Mr. Sparkey showed up on time , did decent work and did it at the agreed upon price. On the bad side, they didn’t disclose the actual details of their quote at any time, and appear to be charging extraordinary prices based on what they think they can get the customer to pay. I meant to review this a while back (about a month or two ago), but this company is great. The first time we had them out, I placed a call at 6:30am, because our breaker box caught on fire. One of the office girls (can't remember her name, sorry) called me back 15min later. They were at my house first thing in the morning, Nick was the technician, he was wonderful. He worked his butt off to get us up and running again with electricity, polite, down to earth, answered all of questions and (the best part) cleaned up after himself ;). We had them out again for a rewiring for our ac unit. Nick was our technician again and again exceeded our expectations. I would rate with 5 stars again if Google review would let me. I would highly recommend them. Nick and Mr sparky are our go to for all our electrical work.

The lighting in my kitchen has always been very poor. The home is older and the fixtures are inadequate, making the room dark. After years of putting it off, I finally decided to get the fixtures and lighting updated and took on the task of finding a reliable service to take care of it. I decided on Mr. Sparky based on the Google reviews and the fact they were located on my side of town. It was a great decision. Brandon, the service tech was personable, knowledgeable and helpful. The lights were changed out efficiently and quickly; the results were worth every penny. I also agreed to have a repair done to an unsafe light switch in an infrequently used back bedroom. So glad I did, now there are no worries about the lighting in that room. It pays to get a certified electrician, it may cost a bit, but no one wants to put their home in jeopardy with faulty work. I am giving them 5 stars, one little fly, the arrival time was past the scheduled time. That happens in the service industry. Overall, my experience was excellent and would not hesitate to use them again.

We thoroughly appreciated the work that technician Travis Natterer provided. He was very informative while explaining the process and was extremely thorough. The only issues we had with this company were mostly with customer service and are as follows: After we were approved for financing, we were having issues getting permitting and inspection (Clay County)- when we were initially informed of this they were very nice and apologetic. We continued having issues (were without power) for 3 days and when we called the last two times, we felt as though the customer service had declined because they had completed the work and collected the money- we felt they were not as interested in assisting us and made us feel as if we were a nuisance. Secondly, when we applied for financing, we did so by filling out half of the application on paper and the other half over the phone. When we received the card and financing information from Synchrony Bank, my name was spelled incorrectly (Kasandra) which I felt was a careless mistake on the part of the employee who took our information over the phone. All in all, we have our power back, the actual service of the technician was phenomenal- however- the customer service could use a little work.

As I See It Now

Mr. Sparky Jax Master Electrician Michael Thurston did exceptional work in presenting options, costing them out, and helping us choose the most cost-effective electrical improvements to our newly purchased 1960's home, many of which were designed to showcase our personal art collection. And, when problems arose with an older home, Michael explained possible solutions and helped us choose the best alternative. Finally, being able to cost work per specific project, rather than per hour, definitely worked to our advantage, especially given that it was an older home. Pictured below is 1 of the 3 rooms in which Michael installed crown molding rope light controlled by a dimmer switch on the wall. Also pictured are 3 ceiling "eyeball" canisters designed to illuminate a 14' x 9' full-wall (yet-to-be installed) mural in our fireside room, as well as a single eye-ball canister focused on the fireplace itself that will contain a favored piece of art and a pair of wood carvings from our African trip.

Technician (won't say name) came out and quoted $4661.00 to trouble shoot the living room outlets ($638 - does not include the repairs/fix), replace the 50amp stove outlet ($1299.00) and based on his opinion, the panel box ($2724.00) that has already been inspected and cleared and is only because of the brand, not the wiring or anything else in it. I was quoted less to rewire the ENTIRE house including a brand new panel and everything for less than this quote to fix the two items I called them to do. And he refused to do the work on anything else unless I agreed to the panel box. After all the positive reviews, I am extremely disappointed in what appears to be a attempted opportunity to prey on someone. Edit: I spoke to Donna this morning, who is absolutely wonderful, regarding the above matter and she hadn't understood that I was not looking for anything to be done with the panel and it should not have been included much less added as a requirement. We also spoke regarding the other matters and while I will not be using them as I have an extensive amount of work to be done in a few months and do not wish to pay their prices for two small things, I do feel comfortable knowing she is there and doing her best to keep everyone on track and their clients happy. I am sorry in this case it did not work out as expected but wish them all the best.
