Did 5 hour class w Dave teaching all the relevant, important information needed to view before starting lessons Time passed quickly and got a lot of points to follow on handling situations that may arise while driving Thank you Dave! Definitely choose Drive Rite! Both my twin sons were instructed to drive here and after 15 lessons passed their road test 1st time. So then I had to learn to drive:) I was fortunate to have instructor Jay Lindsay, a truly dedicated teacher, instilling his love of driving into this relatively nervous first time driver. He gave me all the information needed for safe driving and insights to be aware of on the road where pedestrians, bikers and other drivers can be erratic at times. My confidence grew with each lesson, even with some mistakes, Jay’s patience and steady guidance were always a boost to forward my growing skills. I just passed the road test this past Friday and I’m immensely grateful to Jay and the Drive Rite staff for their professionalism during my time and my sons’ time working with them. Incredibly calm, informative, and friendly throughout; I simply couldn't have done it without him. First things first, the receptionists are courteous and extremely helpful. I bought a 10 lesson package and had most of my lessons with Emmanuel. He's a great instructor for a nervous driver like me. He was very calm and relaxing and helped me gain confidence to pass my road test. I also had two lessons with Jay the specialissttt, and before the road test he drilled parallel parking and 3 point turn until they became muscle memory. In an effort to get my license again after letting it lapse, I took lessons with DriveRite, as well as the 5 hour course. Everyone I spent time with at Dean Street was wonderful--helpful, friendly, and very accommodating. All the folks at the front desk are calm, and really work with you to find solutions quickly (Here, I have to shout out to Estie for finding me a car for my road test with less than 24 hours notice!). My 5-hour-class instructor Dave was great. I was dreading spending my Sunday in some weird classroom, but he tried his hardest to make it entertaining--all in all it was a far better scenario than the horror stories you hear. My first driving instructor, JR, was so nice and encouraging! He really helped boost my confidence after years off the road. It was my second instructor, Emmanuel, taught me how to drive though! I had been making some bad mistakes for years, but his tough, no nonsense approach gave me tools that I will use for life to be safer on the road. Nervous parents, send your children to him. Nervous drivers, go to him. You won't be sorry. It's without a doubt thanks to him that I passed my test!

Scheduling my road test with this company was frustrating. I had initially asked to have the test scheduled on sept 30, as I had school and couldn't take the test at an earlier time in the month. Later, I got an email saying my exam was scheduled for sept 9. I went to their location to ask to reschedule, and the person working at the front desk told me that it would take a minimum of 6-8 weeks before another appointment is opened to schedule the test. I ended up just going to the dmv website myself and scheduling the exam at the best time for me. There were appointments that were available way earlier than the 6-8 week wait time that was quoted to me. Also, beware that they charge $25 to schedule the road test for you (as stated on their website; and a car is NOT PROVIDED). However, the DMV charges $10 for two attempts for a non-commercial license (which is the type of license that most people get), and it is easier to schedule the appointment yourself. However, the instructors are amazing here!!! Before I started my lessons with this school, I was so afraid to drive. But Jay made me feel confident with my driving. He was ALWAYS patient, and never made me feel bad if I made a mistake. He helped me become a safe and cautious driver. Cannot thank him enough!! I feel ready for my road test! THANK YOU JAY!

I took my first driving lesson here yesterday and plan on taking more. My driving instructor, JR, is the best! I was a little nervous during the lesson because it was my first time driving on the street with other vehicles but JR made sure I was calm and talked me through everything I need to do & know. I made some errors (of course, because I’m a novice at driving) and he was patient the whole time. I felt safe and at ease, not feeling like I was in danger at all. A lot of instructors don’t work with the student and lose their cool but JR didn’t. I had a pleasant experience & look forward to becoming a better driver. Thanks, Drive Rite Academy! *Update*: Jay is an awesome instructor!!!! Best of the best, hands down! My lesson with him yesterday went extremely well. He gave me really good tips on how to park and positive feed back and constructive criticism. He also told me what I needed work on and encouraged me that I will be a good driver. This is honestly the best driving school in Brooklyn.

Drive Rite's online booking system is convenient and easy to use, but available slots fill up quickly. You'll have to grab up driving appointments way ahead of time or you'll end up like me, having to book lessons with several driving instructors. Luckily, each instructor (Prospect Heights) has been phenomenal in his/her own way: J.R. is talkative and friendly, and makes new and tense drivers feel at ease. He'll invest in your success by making sure you get your full driving time during the lesson, and will send you tips to pass the driving test afterwards. He'll also challenge you so you'll feel confident enough to parallel park behind anything. With his help you'll feel confident parking behind all the cars, trailers, rigs and 'spaceships' you'll encounter in the Prospect Heights area. JAY is the specialist and the master of finesse. He's cool and funny, but will also remind you of the importance of being safe behind the wheel. "We drive to keep people safe," are just some of his words that still convict me to this day. Enough lessons with him, and he'll show you how to let the car do what it was made to do. I still have a way to go, but thanks to him, my three point turns are becoming the bomb dot com. SUDLEY is the natural. She's perceptive, and will give you good, constructive feedback on how your lesson went. She encourages and gives you positive reinforcement as you drive, which is great on days when you're hard on yourself and feel like your driving sucks. Some of my best left and right turning happened under her tutelage. She will help you get the 'feel' of driving. DAVID is the professor. He does things by the book and comes across as very knowledgeable, calm, and informative. Nothing ruffles this guy. He puts his life in the hands of novice drivers every day, and is super calm and patient and grounded. Some may find him dry in his delivery, but he will go over the steps for parallel parking and three point turns with you like he wrote the manual for it. Shoutout to J.R., Jay, Sudley, and David for helping my driving to improve, and I highly recommend them. Even with different instructors, the steps for parallel parking remained the same and didn't vary very much - which I liked. And shoutout to Geminesse, who works in the office and who kindly helped me reschedule a lesson here and there when I couldn't make it. Thanks Drive Rite!

I had a lesson last week with J.R. and I found him to be extremely helpful. It was only my second lesson after not having taken any since the year before, and it was also in a very heavily-trafficked area of Brooklyn, so to say I was nervous is an understatement. Those nerves quickly died down as J.R. was quite patient with me and encouraging as well. He talked me through everything I'd need to know to deal with hectic NY traffic and to (hopefully) pass my road test. Looking forward to having another lesson with him in the near future!

Love Love this driving school! Highly recommend especially for new high school drivers. My daughter did everything with them: the 5 hour class, lessons, road test and highway lessons. She is now a well rounded driver. The school is not perfect but comes pretty darn close. They don’t pickup you have to go to them and we had a couple of schedule mixups but I still rate them 5 stars with no hesitation. Check them out.

Just took 10 lessons at Drive Rite Academy. I tried 4 different instructors and found that JR was the best. He is the most attentive and hands-on, has knowledge of how to pass the road test. The reason why I'm giving 4 stars instead of 5 to this school is due to the office - an instructor didn't show up to my lesson and the office failed to notify me in advance. I wasted my time.

They were great in their communication, prices were reasonable at about $45 per lesson with discounts on packages and the cars and drivers were great. Last instructor I had before passing my road test was Jose, he was knowledgeable and responsive to what I wanted to practice and a big help in passing my road test. The receptionist was very courteous and helpful, as were Dave, who imparted the 5h class (in a very clear, didactic and dare I say even entertaining manner, engaging the students with pop culture references, thoughtfully sprinkled throughout the course) and also Mark, with whom I took driving lessons before taking the road test. As a native New Yorker, especially one who lives in Manhattan, I have never had a yearning to become a driver! Somehow being at Drive Rite Academy, working specifically with JAY, has changed my narrative towards driving 180 degrees. Geminesse, the first face of Drive Rite at Dean Street, is incredible. She works in the office and is insightful, patient and personable. It is evident that she takes her time and devotes all her attention to each client that walks in the office and/or calls. I choose the gold package which includes my 5-hour course, 10 driving lessons and a car for my road test that Geminesse requests from the DMV on my behalf. I randomly selected my driving instructor based on my availability and I have been BLESSED to work with JAY!!! Jay is in high-demand and I completely understand why. He uncovers the natural driver that is within all of us. He used my love for math to make sense of the rules and skills of driving. His calming aura, clear directions, and comical remarks make driving with him a wonderful experience. I am always so saddened when my lesson has come to an end. Once I take my road test, I plan to continue taking lessons with Jay to build confidence to be on the highway and enhance my skills behind the wheel. Once I turned 21 I knew it was time to get my license. Thanks to Driverite and their instructors (Dave, J.R, & Mark) I was able to pass my road exam within a month and a half. From the 5-hour course to the road test, they not only make sure you know your way around the road but make sure you're comfortable while doing so. Driverite definitely helped me a whole bunch. After failing the road test twice with other driving schools and taking lessons with relatives, Drive Rite has been amazing. It's true that all of the instructors are great. I had David, Washington, JR, Mr. Reyes, and Scott at Flatbush. However JR really pieced everything I learned from them all together. JR really gave me a different prospective on where's the best marker for line up before parallel parking AND he provided videos and diagrams as and extra reference to prepare for my test. Needless to say I passed! Thanks again!

I came across Drive Rite through Yelp and couldn't be happier with my choice. I was looking for a place that was affordable as lessons can be super expensive and booking the road test appointment in NYC can take ~8 weeks, which was not an option for me. There are also some cheap places in Manhattan but they are not as good and the process of booking lessons and the test is not as easy or transparent as Drive Rite. You can book and do everything online and all their info is easy to come by on their site. I chose the rush test package and they got me my appointment in 10 days of booking which is awesome! I passed my driver's test yesterday and I wouldn't have been able to do it without these guys! I took my lessons in the Prospect Heights locations and my instructors there were great. The instructors are great teachers! They aren't always looking at their phones and talking too much like other instructors in the city. Ronald was awesome. Really calm and knowledgable. The mock test Ronald gave me the day before my test really helped with my nerves. I couldn't recommend Drive Rite more! Quality without the mega$$$. I'm recommending them to all my friend's in NYC who need to get their license.

Overall, I've had a good experience with the school. I bought a package which includes a few lessons, car for the road test, and the 5 hour class. The good thing is that you can take the lessons at any of Drive Rite's three locations if you like variety. However, I have basically taken all of my lessons at the Dean Street - Prospect Heights location. I highly recommend J.R. He covers a lot in one lesson in preparation for the road test. He can also teach you how to properly drive at night. Update******* I passed my road test at Red Hook on my first try! I owe J.R. a huge shoutout, for if it wasn't for his help, I would have likely failed. Most of my lessons were with him, and once you find an instructor that you like, its best to stick with that person. Just practice as much as you can. If you have friends and family that are willing to help you practice, try with them too, anything helps. Now that I have completed the lessons, I would say get a driving package with at least 15 lessons if you have little to no experience. I kept adding on lessons because I got the Silver package, and if you do the same you may end up spending more money that way. You can also double up the lessons if you want more practice, which I did not know initially. So in general, it would be a good idea to speak to an employee from Drive Rite and ask them for recommendations on what to do.

My experience with Drive Rite Academy has been positive. I have taken lessons with Jay and J.R. (Jose). The majority of my lessons have been with Jay. Jay is an excellent driving instructor, he is patient, informative and supportive. Jay's style is laid back, he has a natural ability to instruct and correct and put you at ease at the same time. If you are a nervous driver i recommend that you request Jay. I have also had a night lesson with J.R. (Jose). J.R. is also an excellent driving instructor. He is extremely informative, he has a plethora of advice, instruction and information; he even texted me homework after my lesson. J.R.'s style is similar to what you would expect from the examiner at the road test. If you are ready to take your road test I recommend that you take a lesson with J.R. before you take your test. Both Jay and J.R are encouraging, they take their job seriously, you can't go wrong with either driving instructor.

I went to Drive Rite Academy to do the road test. I already had a driver's license from another country so I chose to take a couple of lessons and then do the test. I worked with Dave, Jay and Jefferson and they were all fantastic instructors. They helped me understand some of the differences with regards to driving here can other countries. They also gave me pointers on what the examiners look for. It was really helpful and helped me pass the road test on my first try. I took confidence driving lessons and highway lessons. All instructors were pretty good, but my favorite was Emmanuel! He gives constant reminders and coaching and stays really calm while you're driving around. Only downside is that scheduling is kind of a pain - no online scheduling and tough to go through time possibilities over the phone (with some many instructors). Also the location is a bit out of the way. Overall it was totally worth it and I feel like I improved a lot!

So far most of my lessons have been with Dave, excellent Instructor, never loses his cool nor admonishes if a slight mistake is made. He nor corporate has ever haggled me to purchase a higher package or more lessons; very respectable of customers finances. Also they were always over accommodating when i could only purchase lessons on a lesson-by-lesson basis. They treated me as though I had purchased 20 lesson package. They are very honest about your skill level and dont urge you to purchase or take more lessons than necessary. So, point is very professional and i highly recommend.

As a newbie driver with zero experience, Jay has been patient and calm in teaching me. Jay constantly reminded me I’m driving a 3000 pound vehicle and always watch out for life and blind spots.
