Went to hospital on January 15th for knee replacement surgery. Came out of surgery and got to my room I had a spinal tap and didn’t have the all the feelings back in my legs yet , I had to use the restroom so the nurse ask my husband and daughter and granddaughter to step out in the hall. She set me on the edge of the bed and told me she would be right back and left the room I got lightheaded or fainted not sure what, but fell out of bed on my face and my knee No one seem concerned and the doctor didn’t even come in until the next day and ask me if I wanted to go home , of course I did want to go home Followed up with my family doctor a few days later, he put me back in the hospital different hospital obviously , I had a concussion and lots of bruising from the fell I only gave Berkeley Medical Center one star because you had to in order to leave a review Otherwise they wouldn’t have received any stars!!

Most of the nurses were very polite , and caring . The front desk was also helpful . Radiation dep. and out patient dep. were great as well . Wish I could say the same about the Dr.s . I will continue to take my family and myself there for testing , but when it comes to medical care we will go else where .

ABSOLUTLEY REDICULOS! I went to the ER and wrote down my list of symptoms because my throat is so sore it hurts to even breathe. My list included a major problem that I’m having, radiating sharp pains most like due to my fractured spine. Anyways, at check in the registrar did not check my ID and when she asked what was wrong I handed her my list, she looked at it for maybe 2 seconds, handed me the list back and said take a seat. When the triage nurse called me back, she did not check my arm band, nor did she even ask what was wrong. She took my temperature and no and sent me back out. I asked, dont you need to know why I here today? She said, they wrote sore throat on your paper. THATS IT? I’m pretty sure sharp shooting pains from a spinal injury should have been included. So again, I handed her the paper and completely ruse about it, she handed it right back and said, ok, still take a seat. HOW INCONSIDERATE CAN SOMEONE BE? I went to the check out window and said that I did not want to be seen at this hospital. She handed me a form to sign, which I gladly did. I then asked if I could have the name of the nurse that triaged me, and she responded with, no she doesn’t know who it is and she can’t tell me. Great, so not only has your hospital failed to verify my identity more then once, you don’t take the time to listen or comprehend what your patient is saying, nor do you keep record of what nurses come in contact with your patients. UNBELIEVABLE!

I've been to this hospital on four different occasions. Two visits to the ER for croup for my infant son and two visits for maternity/OB related visits. Both visits to the ER we had a great experience with the staff being professional and yet also showing sympathy for us being there for something so scary. We had a great experience having our fourth child at this hospital as well and if we ever have a fifth, we will be back! Highly recommend!

Had my son there the other day absolute worst experience ive ever had!!! First of all my mom had to find a wheelchair and come get me from car, then rolled me inside herself, had to leave me by front desk of the er while she went to park car, while i was waiting not one nurse or anyone asked if i was ok or anything , i was about to have my baby in the er on the floor smh ... then one of the nurses gave out very personal info while i had guests visiting me and baby , then asked to see supervisor to talk about it and lets just say im still waiting,... they gave me a USED can of numbing spray to use and i had to remind them every so often to give me midol bc of the pain i was in, and they also never came in to change my bed cover that i had bled all over... im so annoyed and discusted i cannot wait to get the hell out of here

Worst ever. Literally left there in tears and feeling like I didn't matter!! I had to go there because my doctor stated I needed to go to the ER. I went in at 830, I was in extreme head and neck pain and double vision. They had no beds available so had to wait. Not a problem, thats understandable. Once I was in, was seen within 20minutes. I only saw the dr the one time for about 10minutes max. The dr ordered me some nausea medicine for the pain but refused to give me pain meds. I sat there for 3hrs crying my eyes out before I just got up and left. They checked my blood pressure twice while I was there and both times it was high (150/100) and all they gave me was nausea medicine. I couldn't believe i had to sit there crying because my head felt like it was splitting in half and they wouldn't do nothing about it! I was sent there by my dr, due to never having double vision to having it twice in a week and both times of double vision, it gave me a severly stiff neck and literally splitting migraine. So I figured if i wasn't going to get any help at the ER then why was I going to keep paying to sit in a hospital bed crying in pain when I could be at home in a hot bath with ice on my neck to help ease the pain to atleast manageable. I never would of went to the ER if my DR didn't tell me I needed too. Worst ER ever. I'll make the 35min drive to Winchester medical next time!

I am posting this for my mother at her request because she is not able to do it yet. She was so impressed with the level of care she did not want it to wait. My mother was admitted for congestive heart failure but has a plethora if other health concerns that complicated and lengthened her stay. The staff on the second floor is wonderful! Every aspect of care from the nurses to the housekeeping staff were courteous and professional, but more than that they cared! This has been a scary time for our family and there empathy extended not only to my mother but every family member that visited her. Every detail including the quality of her meals was excellent and every visit from the staff left her reassured and smiling. It's never a good thing when a loved one is hospitalized and family is driven by concern but if it happens the staff at Berkeley Medical Center can not be beat!

Awful. I came from the ambulance to the waiting area, I definitely had a broken collarbone and the possibility of broken vertebraes, ribs, and pulled something in my calf. They made me walk from the ambulance to the waiting area. I will say the doctor was very polite, but other than that awful.

My 3 year old granddaughter was brought here for a high fever, severe headache, neck pain and back pain at approx 830 on 1/13/2017. The ER staff kept said there was nothing wrong except old fluid in her ear from a past ear infection yet her blood work showed a high white cell count and she has severe hives on her face. I requested a pediatric neurologist to see her and they said "well, there is one in Frederick but we will call a pediatrician to make that call and the pediatrician can't get here until after 5". So around 6 pm, the pediatrician came and said that she did not understand why the ER doctor did not feel or see all of the swollen lymph nodes in her neck and she has an infection probably related to the ear infection and wanted to keep her overnight. This morning, 1/14/17, someone came to draw blood and I asked why. They said it was routine. I said that she was not going to be stuck again for "routine" but to find another way to do it. They said the ER staff could take it out of her IV but no one else could. I said ok let's get the ER staff to do it then as it was a battle getting blood work from a 3 year old. Next thing I know, I am being told that My daughter is being released. I called the Nursing Supervisor because apparently she is the one that runs the hospital on the weekend. Laura, the Nursing Supervisor told me that I was being released because I refused bloodwork. When I told her the story, she left and came back and told me the only reason I stayed was because I had requested it! WTH!!!!!! I told her the conversation about the neurologist request, she told me to go see my regular doctor Monday or Tuesday and get a referral. I asked her what was wrong with my child, she said "I don't know, maybe an ear infection!" What kind of hospital is this!???? I will NEVER come back to this hospital. If I got into a life threatening accident in front of it, I would request to be sent to another facility. Oh while I was there, there was a small baby Boy, born 1/5/2017. He had RSV and no one was paying attention to him at all. He was screaming and they just put him in a swing and left him. I asked about him and was told "the parents only come maybe an hour a day but we don't have time for this, do you want to hold him and feed him?" I was shocked!!!! This business does not need to be in business!!!!!!

I went in to the emergency room to be seen for severe abdominal pain. After waiting for an hour after being told I was next to be seen I called the nurse to see when the Dr would be in. She looked out in the hall and asked the Dr and he replied, "I'm going in to OR, she isn't an emergency. " I guess because I am a female and happened to be on my period that I was of no concern. I can't even stand up straight and can't believe that this is the behavior of a doctor employed here at this hospital. I will never return. I will probably get a $400.00 bill in the mail though, even though they only took my vitals and catheter. This is not the first time that I have had an unpleasant experience here at this hospital either. If you have another option, go there instead.

My mother who is immobile needed to get a MRI done back in Feb of this year. They asked us if she was capable of walking. We stated to them she could not even stand. We were then told they had no way to get her onto the MRI table. We asked the technician if they have a lift. After all we have a lift at home to move my mother from her wheelchair to her hospital bed. She stated that she would go find out. Awhile later she returned with a lift that looked to be around 20 years old. It also didn't work with the sling my mother had under her. Her sling works with a lift that has chains & their lift had straps. My father then asked to speak to a supervisor. It is not a easy feat to get my mother back & forth to appointments like this. And we also have to hire transportation to & from appointments. We waited for at least 45 minutes for another technician to come & tell us they were getting some people to lift her onto the table. This past week my mother's neurologist ordered a EEG to be done. The sleep study dept where the EEG would be done called to schedule an appointment. They were then informed my mother was immobile. They stated they had no way of lifting her. They didn't have a lift to move her & wasn't even trained to use one. It is not difficult to use such lift. I was informed they would see what they could do & call me back the next day. They called back the next afternoon & was still working on a solution. We were told they would call us the next day. That was the last we heard from them. It is pathetic that a hospital can't even purchase equipment to move patients who are immobile. I have done my own research and starting at $700.00 a lift can be purchased. Now why can't this hospital purchase this. It's sad that my mother can't get the procedure done that she needs because they don't have the right equipment. My mother can't be the only person who has had this problem. You would think that a hospital could handle different disabilities. It's such a shame what me & my father has had to deal with. We don't have the means to transport my mother to another facility or believe me we would. You expect more from a hospital & especially one who is aligned with WVU.

My mother has been here twice in two years. She was nearly paralyzed, swollen, and half way coherent oh our most recent trip. She’s been there for 2 hours before I get the call at 11:30 at night she’s being discharged. There is no way my mother is travel ready all ready. Last time we went to Winchester medical and they kept my mom 3 days over for less. I guess Berkeley has better things to do than care for their patients. A total waste of time.

They would rathere sit out there talk or play on there phone. I would never recommend anybody to bring there sick child to this place. This place will stress you out more than you already were before you got here...

Great place to catch MRSA. ER did not submit info to insurance company so I was billed for something that insurance should have covered. Instead of contacting me, they sent it to a debt collector. I gave the debt collector my insurance info and it was covered. Shouldn't the hospital be paying me to do their job?

I don’t go to doctors or hospitals unless i absolutely have to. Last night I went in. I was seen immediately. The staff was amazing. They didn’t dismiss anything that was going on with me or make me feel unimportant. They were quick with diagnosis and treatment for me. They all showed amazing bed side manner. I was in and out and treated in barely an hour and a half. The hospital is clean and welcoming as well.

Absolutely horrible staff, service, and treatment. I was assaulted by a member of security named Charles Rose. I told the staff what happened and they completely ignored my claims and did nothing. The security guard still works there, as far as I know...Also Dr. Helen Ryu and Dr. Barman are two of the most unprofessional, rude, and uncaring doctors I have ever seen. I will never return there; worst experience of my life. I checked in for anxiety and they made it worse.

So my Girlfriend and I came in for our beautiful baby, we were very worried as we were first time parents, but this labor and delivery department was great specifically our nurse Mindy she took great care of us always asked if we needed anything and was super helpful. Unfortunately there was one black sheep that was very disrespectful, I would recommend staying away from nurse Karen B, she refused to give us drinks and told us we couldn’t have them. This made me super unhappy when it’s a happy time in my life totally brought the mood down. No worries about this hospitals labor and delivery just avoid nurse Karen B.

My daughter was having terrible headaches and we took her to this ER. We sat there for 2 hours waiting. While waiting, she began experiencing loss of speech, loss of right side movement, and then loss of alertness. I told the triage nurse, and everyone in the area after he shrugged it off. They simply said that they were very busy. We finally left and took her to Meritus Medical and she was seen immediately and taken for MRI within 15 minutes. Today, we know she had a stroke and could have suffered less damage if only it was addressed in a prompt manner.

I wish I could give the ER doctor a punch in the throat. In September, my husband was suffering horrible pain in his right hip. The pain was so bad that he was unable to sit, stand, or even lie down comfortably. I took him to the ER. His physician was Eric Glass. After speaking to my husband for about ten minutes, Glass sent him home and told him to take some ibuprofen. He took no tests whatsoever. My husband was subsequently discovered to have metastatic badder cancer and three months later, he died of it. Eric Glass, you are a useless POS and should lose your damned license.

This is in Berkeley County, Wv. Has all high tech services and outpatient care. A full scale hospital with 7 floors. Other medical facilities are on the campus. Has handicap parking and entrance available also has 4 elevators and a cafteria with excellent food's and salads.

Sitting in the emergency room with my son as we speak. The care here is AWFUL. The only time they came into the room after the initial meet is if we called them in. I had to ask 4 times for a blanket and the only reason they brought one in finally was because I went out and somewhat yelled. I found out from the nurse that all results were back but it was a full hour and a half before the doctor finally came into talk to us. Every time I looked out the window, the doctor was sitting at the desk talking. The staff here clearly doesn’t care. Avoid this place if you can. It was not a good experience.

Wish I could give less than a one star. Who ever reads their CT scans should be fired. Told me my kidney stone was 2mm and would pass. Well they were way wrong and it required surgery to be removed. I had to visit the ER a second time before surgery and they billed over $200 to the insurance when all they did was give me a shot and send me to the waiting room. Talk about money hungry scammers. I would rather drive 45 minutes to a another hospital then ever come back to this place.

This hospital hired Kristina Lester, an ex-teacher who abused the children in her classroom and was recorded while threatening her students with bodily harm. Is this the kind of employee that should be working at a hospital? I think not. This woman should never be allowed to work near any child ever again.

I’ve been to this hospital numerous times. In general, it’s not a bad place. The nurses in particular seem to be really excellent. The wait time in the ER can get ridiculous, but considering it’s the only ER in the area it’s to be expected. My biggest complaint is with the doctors up in labor and delivery and the pediatrician. It took the anesthesiologist 4 tries to get my epidural in (it only took 1 shot at other hospitals with my other children) and it took them 6 tries to get an IV in my arm. This is honestly unacceptable. After my son was born, he was slightly jaundiced, but the pediatrician on call (apparently there’s only one for the entire hospital) forced us to stay 2 extra days and threatened us with putting the baby in the nicu if he wasn’t kept under the lights at all times. His bilirubin level was, at its highest, 11. 10 is considered normal. It was horrifically traumatic for both me and my newborn. Even our nurse disagreed with his assessment but there was nothing she could do. My advice is if you’re going to have a baby, go to Winchester or Hagerstown. They will likely have a better doctoral staff.

My mom was in there for chest pains and some other symptoms this week. I will say that they followed proper protocol for a cardiac event. However, when everything came back and it was deemed that it was not a cardiac event they sent her home with a diagnosis of non specific chest pain. They also told her that she had a small infection of her liver due to exposure to a virus since it was cold and flu season. I ended up looking at her labs in her my chart and her AST was well over standard range. Turns out she needed to have an emergency cholestectomy. Good job bmc. Good job for you not being able to use your brain and coorelate an elevated AST level with my moms SIGNS and symptoms.

I was on the 5th Floor with the Med Surg staff for 3 days and I could not have asked for a better group of nurses. I felt comfortable and safe every second of my stay. I saw one doctor every day that i was in the hospital and a surgeon during consult and apparently one other time while under anesthesia. The care was exactly what I would have wanted. I thank every staff member I encountered. Even in the emergency department, before i was admitted, I always felt my care was paramount. I felt everyone was doing anything and everything they could to make sure I was taken care of.

When Your down on your luck and can't afford a hospital Bill out right they won't bother to help they want 75$ up front and won't bother to work with you for low income they are greety and could are less about anyone and forgot there oath Just went on the 30th was sitting in a room for over 3 hours asked several times for a nurse and was never seen by a doctor and the nurse just acted like he didn't care and I was an idiot finally after putting up with Bullshitt I went to Winchester hospital which by far is the best hospital I have been to, I do not recommend this hospital to anyone

My loved one was seen by Dr. Ahamdo- cardiologist after having a heart attack. After procedure in the cath lab; Dr. Ahamdo briefly explained his findings and we were told more testing would be ordered and he would come up after to discuss findings, options and further treatment. During the evening patient started having increased chest pain at rest. I questioned why any MD hasn’t come in all day and what was being done. The response was Dr. Ahamdo has left for the day, we don’t have any finished notes or updated orders. They called the cardiologist on call who says “I didn’t do procedure so with no real notes or understanding of the case there is nothing I can do”. I have never been so disgusted by such a poor level of communication which amounts to poor care. All of the nurses were amazing and felt horrible that they couldn’t give us any answers. I am writing to the medical board and the state board to advise of this situation.

The last time I was here I had SEVERE hives. Was seen at once by Dr. Muyderman, a nice young doctor. Given medicine to take as soon as I got home. Was given 2 paper scripts. The nurses were a little grouchy, but they were tired. I was in, out, and home in a little over an hour. This was when we had the severe cold temps. ( Felt good on those hives! ). I was very pleased with my treatment here.

While waiting in the waiting area of the emergency room, they violated HIPPA with other patients by leaving doors open so that those who were waiting could hear every bit of information shared. Once we brought attention to the violation the nurses at the desk had a very inappropriate attitude telling us there was no issue. They were very quick to call security to have us delete any evidence that we had of their HIPPA violation and proceeded to quietly talk smack about not only us but other patients behind the desk thinking we wouldn't hear them. My suggestion is to stay away from this hospital.

Extremely displeased with the customer service and response times on the billing/advocacy end. I had circumstance(s) occur including being over billed, misread wrongful test results by 3 separate nurses, as well as was badgered about my choices on b/c for myself and was told “I have no clue what my s/o is doing behind my back,” after I repetitively shot down the topic of of birth control. I have been dealing with these issues for 4+ months now, and have been billed in total $400 for an ultrasound procedure/dr visit that was supposed to be $75 in total. After wrongful test results and an extremely rude doctor, I confided in Tonya Armstrong to help me in finding a solution for the over billing and steps I could take to resolve everything. Every time I would call I was told wrong information until finally she just stopped answering and ignored my voicemails for weeks. I am sickened by the behavior these people bestow on their patients as well as how they handle things. Tonya told me I needed to understand she was having mother troubles, but proceeded to tell me my troubles weren’t her problems. I will never ever use this facility again and will steer clear, as well should others. I drive almost 2 hours from my home to deal with all of my medical needs at this point. These people are a great example of why our healthcare system is in shambles.

Daughter was in an auto accident, asked for a drink and pain meds before discharge several times and did not get any. She also had to use the restroom, she had knee brace on and back pain, they would not help us in the bathroom. Terrible service, would not recommend.

Because of changed with our insurance we have to go to WVA providers instead of VA providers and facilities. I have had 4 visits for various test and have been extremely satisfied. Everyone has been friendly and very helpful. Everything has been on schedule. Very very satisfied

Both my mom and her husband were in a car accident and brought to this facility with serious injuries. They were both subsequently transferred out to Ruby Memorial Hospital in Morgantown, West Virginia. My mom was flown with multiple fractures (including sternum, ribs, wrist, and an open fracture of the femur), and my dad was rushed by ambulance (also with sternal and rib fractures) as his blood pressure had plummeted. It was not until the following day that I found out where they were and what had happened--after receiving a phone call from my mom as she was going into surgery....alone with no one by her side. As an RN myself (who use to work at this very hospital), I find it sickening and utterly disgraceful that no next-of-kin would be notified in this circumstance.

I went to the emergency dept. on 5/12/16 in extreme pain. They were very busy. I arrived about 6pm. I was taken to a room almost immediately. Everyone, the doctor, the nurses, the mri techs, everyone was kind, and extremely efficient. Not to be forgotten, the front desk person was also very efficient. No complaints. They took care of my problem. The next morning I was feeling so much better. Of course they told me to follow up with the appropriate doctor. Thanks to all who helped me.

My daughter was born at Berkeley Medical Center on Friday March 9th 18. Thank you to the entire Labor and Delivery floor and the entire Postpartum floor. They were absolutely wonderful. I was taken in by an ambulance for chest pains. You would think I would of been a priority but no they made me wait 3 hrs for a ct scan. They were not busy at all and the RN was very rude and the nurses were ignorant. What a joke there is no sense in someone getting treatment like that. This place is a joke. And I will never visit the hospital again. They might of changed there name but the care is still bad. What a bunch of quaks and idiots in this place. I will be calling the administration on Mon if that does anything. I would recommend anyone not to go there go to MD or VA. You will die waiting to find out what is a wrong with you in this place.. And I'm calling my Insurance company and telling them why I walked out and I hope that you dont get your money.

Before i was diagnosed with cancer i went here becuase of problems and was told nothing was wrong but then a few days later i went to a better hospital i was told i had leukemia and that if i didnt get there sooner i was a dead man walking so thx to here i almost lost my life due to the lack of knowledge of the doctors the poeple were nice but they didnt know what they wer doing and the doctors perscribed me meds that almost killed me to
